The "You're Fired" Game (Over 1K fired)
D. V. Devnull replied to Blaze The Movie Fan's topic in Forum Games
You're fired from Calendar Masters Inc. because a week is a rather grave understatement, seeing as this thread has been out of commission for almost two months! :P ~D. V. "Watching the clock as days go by..." Devnull -

spoofer, what's your horizontal size of your browser window? I've had rare times where having the browser shrunk too narrow actually blocked me from clicking on elements on pages on other sites. ~D. V. "Just trying to rule something out..." Devnull -

It's far worse than that, MageUK, as the virus doesn't have to be directly in that executable, but only just a mere point of exploit. Let alone what I've already mentioned, allowing any browser (even swiftkit's) to show the adverts above the RS applet (and especially with IE's engine active) runs a high risk of the user's system getting damaged/infected. Stacked on that, it's likely most IRC users don't know how to shut off IRC DCC and/or are unable to due to whatever client they're using. Instant opening to being hit, right there. And as for the viruses/hackings/damage that have been claimed and are attributable to usage of SwiftKit, most of the ones that I'm referencing are not possible to be linked to due to having been eaten by the "page 51 monster" on the RSOF over many years. :geek: I'm afraid you guys are very unsuspecting. At this point, I'm going to leave this topic in regard to the thread be, and alone. I'll be watching from the background as the negative feedback rolls in sometime in the future. -.- ~D. V. Pop Up Ads = Bad Business Ethics
D. V. Devnull replied to Spunky Skunk's topic in Website Discussion
Tip: While those of us that have FireFox-based/Chrome-based/K-Meleon browsers have access to this, nobody else does AFAIK. Therefore, ABP can't be recommended to everyone. :shame: As for the issue with those blasted Pop-Up Ads, I've felt enough of the burn on a tablet with a WebKit-based browser (that, yes, can't have ABP added to it) that I know how the OP feels. I would seriously recommend that the items resulting in the pop-up ads have those functions disabled/removed as soon as is possible, as it is too easy on mobile devices to get re-directed by an accidental mis-click and/or a bad item loading. Even having pop-up ads at all can result in users who come to Tip.It choosing to go somewhere else because their system got compromised and/or they felt like they couldn't retain their privacy on the internet. I'm pretty sure we can agree that Tip.It doesn't need to lose people over this? :( ~D. V. "Knowing the balance..." Devnull -
I find myself disappointed and gravely angered that this has occurred. This is made worse by the fact that it wasn't brought past the main Tip.It community first, in order to receive proper feedback on the matter. I happen to have seen quite many forum posts out on the RSOF, here at Tip.It, and such that have specifically identified SwiftKit and their SwiftIRC server as being the point at which many have been hacked and their RS accounts stolen/ruined. The damage to other users that I have seen those posts about has either happened via IP detection and DOS attack, or via some manner in which someone on the SwiftIRC network has exploited a hole on another person's computer and compromised their computer and RS account. To switch your Tip.It IRC to being a mere set of channels on SwiftIRC, and therefore open up Tip.It's users to an IRC community that is known to lack morals and has hurt others, now results in my permanent discontinued use of IRC in regard to RuneScape and related fansites. I may have used it rarely and only when necessary, but this change was a breaking point between me possibly using an IRC client actively and my not using one at all anymore. Further, I will now have to rethink my usage of Tip.It's Forums, as mixing that other community with us is going to result in many additional, and highly detrimental issues. ~Mr. D. V. My Power-User Windows ID is Damaged... Need Help!
D. V. Devnull replied to D. V. Devnull's topic in Tech and Computers
Questions answered and some updates... :geek: Bad economy and such... I don't have the $$$ to buy my own PC... Please don't poke further about this, because I simply won't talk about it. Anyway, this line of discussion is totally off-topic. :notalk: I don't think you quite got what I'm talking about there. We've got two monitors, one at 1920x1080, and the other (pinned on the side in terms of desktop position, off the top-right corner, sitting bumped against the side of the first desktop section) at 1024x768. With the current glitched situation, launching pretty much any D3D application results in that second desktop section physically moving to overhead on top while the application (especially NFS6:HP2) is running, instead of just sliding sideways like it used to do. This specific behavior is never supposed to be happening at all. :-| I've been trying to ask my dad to do exactly that, first backing up our current data so we don't lose anything which has no effect on the current situation (like browser/email/document data) that we want/need to keep. We can obviously then copy the data back in afterward. On the bad side however, we've also had a Firewall switch from ZA Pro 7-series Firewall to Comodo 5.10-series Firewall, a whole ton of new firewall rules generated, a physical monitor change (due to an old, dying CRT monitor) of the primary monitor, and an upgrade of the ATI Catalyst from 10.12 to 12.4 (this last one done in an attempt to stop the glitch), all since the last backup. (As a reminder, this glitch stemmed from running RuneScape and having a bad laggy moment while changing RS Rendering Modes from DirectX 3D to OpenGL right after the physical monitor change.) I think he's being dead resistant to doing the revert (which would put us back on ZA Pro 7-series Firewall, at least temporarily...) probably because it would pull out the Comodo 5.10-series Firewall changeover, and the Rules that we've already had to tweak several times to prevent startup/shutdown crashes (Although, I've popped the fact that it would give us a second chance to possibly do that better from the ground up.), as well as pull the Catalyst 12.4 Upgrade (same to be said regarding handling this issue)... On other notes, I've already found out that the glitch (since we stop-gapped the OpenGL issue) with D3D apparently is already affecting his Admin account (and therefore likely everyone else) as well. (Just my bad luck, I've found out I'm also the person with a better memory of this computer's behavior, so getting the point across is a mountain of trouble for me.) So I can pretty much assume that DirectX's core is also damaged, as this was showing itself during the D3D v8/v9 part of the tests, but not during the D3D v7 test part. Which reminds me, we don't have a system restore point from before the issue happened. So that chance to jump backwards is gone... That, and the Catalyst 12.4 Upgrade probably blocked that anyway, as the old 10.12 files aren't in an installed state on the PC anymore. :wall: At this point, I'm pretty much being forced (yes, thanks to my dad) to look only at ways of fixing the system while continuing to go forward. So, if anyone here has any way to do that and end this issue with DirectX/OpenGL/this PC, please feel free to share it. Right now, I'm near a point of total mental overload. :( ~D. V.
