Cloverfield Discussion Thread: Warning! Contains Spoilers!!!
I agree, it's the only thing thats putting me off of this film. It's become such a gimmick to use hand held camera's in films lately unfortunately. Other than that the trailer seemed quite promising though.

bruce lee or Jackie chan?
It has to be Bruce Lee, he was the one who pretty much single-handedly made the western world obsessed with martial arts films in the first place. The guy could do it all and was able to make you believe that he could beat up anybody. Plus Jackie Chan has been in only one decent film in the last 10 years (Rush Hour 1).

What movie(s) did you last see?
I watched the Sweeny Todd trailer the other day... is it really a musical? I hate musicals lol. Yeah a musical with songs and everything lol :D .

Favourite standup comedians?
Penis isn't an offensive word, it's an anatomical term. I don't see why he would have to call it a "yoohoo" to any audience.

Anti Social Behaviour Order- What movie(s) did you last see?
I was thinking of seeing this following my rule that most things with Daniel Day Lewis is worth seeing and just because it sounded interesting. I used to have a similar rule about Edward Norton but then The Italian Job came and blew that one out of the water.....I have an opposite rule for Chris Tucker. It's a shame that DDL is so selective, I like seeing his work but he's only been in 4 films in the last decade which is a shame but I suppose his personal happiness is more important to him than my selfish desire to be entertained :D . Edit - It's not out here until February according to IMDB :( .- Mobile Phones at the Cinema?
I really hate that, they should buy some headphones. It wouldn't even be that bad if they put on decent music but it's always some really low-grade rave music or really low-grade rap. Wait, let me get this straight. Just because you don't like the music, that makes it instantly crap? I could say how music you like is crap (though I won't as I like most music) Subjectively speaking, if I dislike something that does make it crap - in my opinion. However, that is besides the point. My point was if it was music I liked, it wouldn't be as bad but I would still find it somewhat irritating. The fact that I mentioned certain types of music is because in my experience, those are the only types of music that people seem to play on trains/buses for whatever reason. I don't dislike the stated genres, I just don't like them played intrusively like that and that in my experience, when they are played in this manner they always seem to be poor examples of that genre(s). I wasn't saying that I hate rap or rave music because simple put I don't. I was making an observation so please don't get your knickers in a twist over nothing.- saddest movie ever
Schindler's List for me. Sad because it's based on actual events.- Benazir Bhutto killed by Suicide Bomb
The Pakistani Interior Ministry say that she wasn't hit by the bullets or any bomb shrapnel. Instead they claim that the force of the bomb threw her hard into the security enforcements around the sunroof of her car which broke her skull. However, people from Bhutto's political party claim that this is a lie.- I'm starting soccer
Canada...fair enough then lol- I'm starting soccer
If I didn't play outdoor when it was cold I would've never played outdoor at all - Scotland's cold. Indoor football is for women, there's nothing better than playing on a soaking boggy pitch in the rain or even in the snow - it really separates the men from the boys. It doesn't even matter if it's cold because once you've been playing for 5 minutes you won't even feel the cold.- Marijuana, Is It Actually Bad?
They all laughed about corporate gambling in the 1940's, now most of the Las Vegas Strip is owned by major corporations. They just go where the money is, if it's profitable and legal they'd do it.- How bad can gaming companies go?
While thats true and perfectly valid, it's also dependent on consumers joining together en masse to boycott the the brand/product which is a rarity. It's also dependent on the attention span of the consumers in question, often big brands can wait out and weather the storm of public backlash long enough for the issue to be forgotten about; an example being the GAP child labour affair(s). At the time there was uproar, condemnation and talk of boycotting, now it's been superseded by numerous other events and it's off of the cultural radar which allows GAP to continue to make profit.- I'm starting soccer
Adidas made the last world cup ball so you could give that a try or go for a Mitre ball (although they might be UK only). Not sure about the price on either. Regardless the ball isn't that important. What's important is that you practice and practice until you learn the basics. Set up some cones and dribble around them to practice dribbling, try hitting targets for passing/shooting - it's not too difficult to learn how to play it just needs practice. The best practice is probably just to get a group of friends together and play for fun and get some confidence. In my opinion, classes don't benefit you that much until you play at a decent level where you need to work on the more tactical side of the game but for the time being just have fun with it and your ability will gradually improve. Trust me my childhood was spent trying to become a great footballer, ultimately I failed but I wasn't too bad.- Marijuana, Is It Actually Bad?
You're forgetting that major corporations could produce it in on such an industrial scale, that the economies of scale would drive their costs down which would allow them to sell it at a much cheaper rate. They would effectively be able to undercut the market and make it an unprofitable enterprise for the criminal element.- Mobile Phones at the Cinema?
The light from the screen is distracting and, depending on how close they are, you can hear the clicking of the buttons sometimes, which is irritating.- Mobile Phones at the Cinema?
I really hate that, they should buy some headphones. It wouldn't even be that bad if they put on decent music but it's always some really low-grade rave music or really low-grade rap.- tip.it, girls are sneaky D=<
The only way this makes sense is if; A) You're younger than 10 years old B) You're trolling or C) You've lived an extremely sheltered life (I'm guessing you've been living with monks or something along those lines) Otherwise this thread is spam. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=644208- Benazir Bhutto killed by Suicide Bomb
I don't think Musharraf did this but there are elements within the ISI that are sympathetic towards the extremists and who have been blamed for allowing them safe passage along the Pakistani-Afghan border in the past. However, Bhutto had many enemies so it is difficult to determine who is responsible. The though of any sort of civil war or revolution in Pakistan is very worrying. The fact that Pakistan is so fundamentally unstable and possesses nuclear weapons is worrying and could have implications for many other nations (not that I'm saying those weapons would be used but they make for a great bargaining tool). I think Musharraf has to hold on to power for at least a few more months (longer depending on results) before calling elections as anything could happen in the current climate. Bhutto's funeral is tomorrow, I can only presume that things will only get worse with it - a large number of angry and emotional people in one place can be volatile and would be a target for more bombings. Another point of interest is that the park in Rawalpindi that Bhutto was leaving was the site where Pakistan's first Prime Minister Ali Liaquat Khan was assassinated in 1951.- Knuckle cracking- arthritis or not?

I'm not too sure about Alien vs. Predator Requiem. The trailer looked decent but the fact that they're not showing the films to critics before it's released (standard practice, it allows for pre-opening night publicity) makes me suspect that it won't be as good as the trailer suggests. I'll probably still go to see it if I have the time and I'm bored.- Benazir Bhutto killed by Suicide Bomb
I don't see how they realistically can when the likely winner is killed 13 days before the polls open. Then again Musharraf may decide to go on with the election in the hope that it splits the opposition vote and helps him to hold on to power. I hope they postpone the elections for a short while until the whole country is in a position to properly carry out a fair election. However, whether that will be the case is anyones bet.- Benazir Bhutto killed by Suicide Bomb
It's ironic that the attack happened not too far from where her father was hanged. Reports coming out now say that the bomber shot her in the neck first before detonating the bomb and that she was still alive by the time she got to the hospital but died later. Yesterday a different suicide bomber (a 15 year old boy) was intercepted before he could attack Bhutto. This morning there was an attack that aimed to kill another former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. You'd have though that she and her team would have have severely beefed up her security in the light of this and the last suicide attack. Unfortunately they didn't and Bhutto like so many others involved in Pakistani politics has died. For the lack of a better term Pakistan is screwed. Even in the last hour, the news has been reporting stories of violent demonstrations in response to this assassination and her a minority supporters believe that Musharraf is either responsible directly or indirectly (eg. for not providing adequate safety, failing to provide detonation jammers etc.) Of course these theories will only continue unless some group takes responsibility for this attack, Bhutto had a lot of enemies so it would be difficult to determine who really did this unless they own up to it themselves. I can see this being the flame that ignites Pakistan into civil war. Seems like yet another win for the exteremists. I see no way that Pakistan can have it's elections in January now.- Sweeney Todd
Four words to disprove that: Planet of the Apes My favorite movie of all time is The wizard of gore. My tastes are... weird and strange :P Lol fair enough. I'd just like to point out though that I do really like Burton's films and I'm quite looking forward to Sweeney Todd. I'm not too fond of musicals generally but this looks interesting. - Stereotypes
