I wouldn't mind doing jury duty, it is my public service of preference. If/when I have to do it, I'll watch the film 12 Angry Men the night before, get in my Henry Fonda mode.
  2. Knowing where it is and knowing that it is a country are two different things.
  3. I'm watching an episode Batman (the Adam West one) called "Penguin's Disastrous End". In fact, Penguin has just used a woman dancing to distract the guards of a sub-treasury so he could rob it.
  4. He volunteered the information as he felt that it was better to be honest, more fool him.
  5. Certain places they do. Like Vegas has legal prostitution. I thought it was only the smaller counties of Nevada that had legal brothels. I'm pretty sure there's no legal prostitution in the Vegas city limits nor in the more populated Nevada counties, I may be wrong.
  6. They, could be related, friends...anything. You could cite any possible reason for calling somebody.
  7. The most important issue isn't necessarily when you introduce children to these subjects but how you do it. I think children should be educated regarding sex/violence in an honest, mature and informative way so they have a full understanding of the issues involved.
  8. I don't think a mature tag would work, it would likely attract more younger readers to those topics as it would make them more obvious.
  9. Isn't the job to make sure they're not civilians first rather than kill first ask questions later? If it's the latter then forget winning the hearts & minds of the people.
  10. Let me clarify this, he got a burglary conviction after he met some people who 'hanging out' in a house they (not he) had broken into. Later, he went in with them and got busted with them. The judge accepted that he had little (but still some) fault in this and he was given an extremely light punishment because of that (I think it was a two month supervision order - zero prison time). The conviction was spent by the time he applied so he didn't legally have to declare it. He was then offered a place in Imperial College London after getting his exam results however, he later informed them of his spent conviction (which means it is not part of a criminal record) and they revoked the offer. In effect he is being punished for being too honest in this case, if he had just shut his mouth his application wouldn't have been revoked. The argument here boils down to two things; should we accept that, once somebody has carried out their punishment according to the law, that they have paid their debt to society? Secondly should one small infraction of the law when you are legally a minor be held against you for the duration of your life? Personally I think he was naive and stupid to do what he did but most 15 year olds are naive and do stupid things (despite the likely protests that will follow this post), to hold that against a guy who has worked his backside off to earn a place at one of the nation's top medical schools for a mistake and for being honest enough to disclose it, in my opinion, would be quite sad. Edit - Could I just point out that the incident he was convicted for was 3 years ago (2005) not the year ago that was mentioned by another poster. ------------------------- http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... ce.ukcrime ^^ The person in question explains what happened in his own words. -------------------------
  11. Funnily enough, I remembered the other day how when I was a child (maybe about 3 or 4 years old) I thought that in the days of black & white film/TV that the whole world in real life was in black and white as well.
  12. Making you cry because everyone has more music than you (somehow I doubt) or because it's a pointless thread where people show how much music they have stolen?
  13. Well at the risk of being universally flamed, I don't like any of the Star Wars films (I've seen the first 3 and wasn't to keen to see the new ones). I've never been that interested in sci-fi films to start with (although there are a few obvious exceptions) but Star Wars particularly irritates me. I find many of the characters annoying (especially C3P0) and I just find my self rolling my eyes if I try to watch the films (even when I was a child), they just don't entertain me personally.
  14. That sentence poses the question; is the enemy of my enemy really my friend? The short answer is no - because history proves that they can become hostile quickly. Also the scenario you mention sounds great on paper (or in this case on screen) but in reality, people are more likely to look towards extremist/radical groups in a time of perceived crisis. You forget that many still see the coalition as an invader and occupier. It doesn't matter if Al-Qaeda do terrible things, the mere presence of western/outside forces in muslim land is enough to generate new recruits for the various extremist groups in the Middle East. Granted, there is good news coming out of Iraq now but the problem is maintaining stability.
  15. I knew it would be Nadal's year this year. I even unpatriotically put money on Nadal before he played Andy Murray. That being said, after losing the 2nd and 3rd sets, Nadal made me nervous a few times - thankfully he pulled through for the win. =D>
  16. Just to add to that point, breastfeeding is a legally protected right here (Scotland).
  17. I don't mind being killed by a grenade launcher as long as they are deliberately aiming to kill me. I hate it when people shoot the grenade launcher randomly and get lucky kills. The same people do it with frag grenades and it's even worse when they have 3 x frag.
  18. On the other hand, maybe they should give you a discount for being thin. I'm short skinny git, you could comfortably fit 3 of me in a 2 seater if there was no divider. Seriously, it's the future ;) .
  19. She has every right to breastfeed her child, the child was hungry and she fed it. If you have a problem with her feeding her child then just don't look - simple as that.
  20. Look, if it's between single consenting adults who are taking precautions, then it is nobody's business.
  21. I think you're justified as many refills as you need but only while you're eating.
  22. And. And. What did you think of it? For the most part I enjoyed it, I liked the way Gregory Peck's character had a hold over Pearl eventhough she knew he was no good and despite her feelings for his brother. I also enjoyed the relationship the father had with his two sons and how he realised that he had failed as a father. The film looked great as well, especially the final scene. There were a few things that bothered me though. I don't think Joseph Cotton's wife would have accepted having Pearl live with them, even despite her plight. I couldn't see many wives/girlfriends accommodating their husband's/boyfriend's former love interest and allowing to live with them. I was frustrated by how quickly Pearl's non-marriage to the Sam Pierce, he was basically an extra up until he proposed, then he was just dispatched by Peck about 90 seconds later. That being said, I wouldn't mind giving it another look.

Heh, Finland doesn't even have it THAT bad. Turkey: $13 per gallon. You'd think that by geographical association, they'd have cheap oil and thus cheap petrol, but they don't. Seriously, if gas cost as much in the USA as it did in Turkey, the vast majority of american society would collapse overnight. Almost EVERYTHING in society relies on petrol availability at affordable prices. That's so very true. In the Shetland Islands they're only a mile or so away from where the oil comes out of the ground. However, not only do they have to pay the already ridiculous price for petrol, they also have an additional cost because it's difficult to deliver shipments back into remote areas (it has to go south for refining etc).
  24. Lmao I won on that bet! It took until this morning until be confirmed, I missed the first few seconds of the game so I didn't know if I'd won myself. I just wish now that I had put more on it.
