  1. Is the life of a criminal really more valuable than the possessions of an honest person? If you're asking all of us honestly, yes, I do regard life > possessions. Don't ask questions you don't know the answer to. ;)
  2. Spaceman - The Killers A great album, might I add. Only a fiver from 7digital. Good timing when you're on the cheap. ;)
  3. Are you sure it's not the record label or something like that? I remember downloading "Emergency" from "Fuelled by Ramen" through Limewire, only to find out later Paramore were the artists and Fuelled by Ramen was the label.
  4. Surely if they were worthwhile, they'd be active and thus they'd keep being bumped? Also, there's bookmarks.
  5. I hate popups, but in comparison to other forums, Tip.It is quite empty when it comes to ads. I wouldn't mind more.
  6. Psychiatrists aren't meant to be all warm and loving. They're not even meant to spend that long around patients. I'd look closer at the quality of your counsellors. They're the ones who should be making you feel accepted, and that all your options are open, and encouraging you to make choices, not them. The only problem is the role of a counsellor changes from place to place. Even state to state. Some states allow counsellors to make diagnoses, some don't.
  7. Exactly. There's too much blame on popular culture on why children behave the way they do these days. Video games only fuel the violence, they don't create it. I guess it's kinda handy as a parent to just pass the buck along to somebody else, instead of raising your kids right in the first place.
  8. Not really reality TV, but Countdown. I'd pwn in the mental maths round. :
  9. No, professional help from a psychiatrist, any mental health charity will be able to put her in touch with the psychiatric help she needs. Exactly the same as talking to a charity. All they do is sit and listen ... That's a counsellor. Psychiatrists need a degree in Medicine, and are one of the few people allowed to diagnose patients and prescribe medication.
  10. He could just throw it instead, injure you and take the gun away? Or threaten a housemate? I've never been in that situation, thankfully, but I can imagine a thousand ways of holding someone to ransom. I don't understand this need to protect yourself. Insurance covers against break-ins, police can be easily alerted afterwards (especially if you have a security system), you can even put those stickers to identify your possessions for recovery later - the rest is only money. Is it worth placing the situation into even more danger because of some foolish emotional reaction, or an irrational fear of what might happen if you don't confront someone breaking in? In response to Baron and kranked, yes I live in an urban area, and it's fairly rough here. Not exactly Moss Side, but rough. Our house has been broken into while we were out, and an air rifle has been shot at our house before. I've never felt the need to possess a gun though. If someone breaks in while you're inside, you just give them what they want, and have the police take it from there. In fact, if you're streetwise, you'll know carrying a gun or a knife when you're outside inexplicably puts you in more danger, not less. Even if it's concealed. People can tell from body language if someone has a weapon.
  11. Wow, there's someone else other than me that likes that song.
  12. Because you're assuming the terrorists' target was specifically US and British targets. Evidence quite clearly points elsewhere, given so many people from other nations, Israel included, are also dead or were injured in the attacks. This was an attack on India's (or rather, Mumbai's) prestige as a destination for the rich and wealthy to come on holiday, do deals and celebrate events. Mumbai will lose millions because of these attacks since tourists will be put off using Mumbai as a destination. It's got absolutely nothing to do with democracy, or freedom, or even the US. As said, this style of terrorism has been going on long before the War against Terror was declared by Bush. It's just no one in the Western world really cared until terrorism landed right on their doorstep. This is the problem with fatally putting all forms of terrorism under one roof, and then saying it's an attack on freedom.

Yeah. It's 'coz more people play MKWii, so they don't put on enough servers for Brawl to work. If you go on during peak hours, you just get DC'd all the time. :?
  14. Am I the only non-American here who thinks the American version of pre-18th Century history is grossly misinformed and fantasised? I guess that's what happens when your country's history only spans three centuries (if that). Let's look at the case for guns being a means of self-protection. You can either take two scopes on this. The first way you can look at it is that the likelihood you will ever need a gun to defend yourself is so low it doesn't warrant a constitutional right to bear arms, or, the likelihood you will ever need a gun to defend yourself is so justifiable, that the crime rate is so ludicrously high there's a serious problem with America and crime anyway, thus nullifying the argument that guns help lower violent crime. Either way, I cannot see any reasonable justification for a normal citizen needing a gun.
  15. Quite interesting, actually. Wikipedia, who have been credited by some broadcasters for their coverage of the incident (some describe the commentary as almost real time), have compiled a list of all the deaths and nationalities. Those mourning over the deaths of just British and American casualties need to hang their heads in shame, and learn up the meaning of "context". NOTE: The article is being considered for deletion. I've linked to that particular version of the article as is now.
  16. Damn right! I go to GAME, and whilst staring at Imagine: Babies, Pokémon Diamond, and Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima, I wonder: "Where would the NDS be without all these violent FPS?" :-k See, you're more of a casual gamer. You prefer fun and "different" games, like adventuring in Pokemon or testing you mind with puzzles. This is Nintendo's signature style of game. Unless that was a joke you entirely missed his point. He didn't imply he plays those games, the point is (besides maybe Pokemon, which *is* a succesful franchise) that the DS console would be almost entirely geared towards small kids if it wasn't for the FPS games. Those lesser known 'cute' game series aren't enough to sustain Nintendo's business. Nope, Mlb got my point perfectly well. Look at the demographics for the Nintendo DS. Chances are, the majority will not play FPS, most of which on the NDS are awful in comparison to their home console counterparts anyway. He can call me a "casual" gamer all he likes, unfortunately for him, they make an ever-growing part of the NDS's market, and Nintendo as a whole. Both the Wii and the DS are getting along fine despite the XBox 360 having the best FPS.
  17. Yes it was, if you're 14.

What's wrong with it? Do you get an error code? So, in a desperate attempt to strike conversation in this thread: What do you think will be the effect of the global recession on Super Smash Brawl? ... yeah, maybe not. :?
  19. After school, I used to stay behind at school. I volunteered myself as a student librarian, and it was cool, just hanging there because most of my mates stayed behind too. One day, after the science department put out all their rubbish in black bags, some clever person decided it would be funny to set them alight. Thankfully, the fire alarm went off, and the fire was put out before any real damage was done. The floor's still burnt black from where the fire was though. Oh my God! I just thought of a new one that'll give away where I went to school but whatever. People in the UK - do you remember after the Iraq War there was controversy over photos which depicted Iraqi prisoners being tortured and abused inhumanely by British forces? Here's the BBC news article. It turned out of course that the pictures were faked in a TA Barracks in Lancashire, and sold to the Daily Mirror. More precisely, it was Kimberly Barracks, the barracks right opposite my high school. The story was the main national headline at the time, so you can imagine all the cameras and reporters parked out our high school wanting to get a story. The headmaster had to tell us not to talk to any body from the media if they asked us any questions about what we knew. That was just... surreal. When major national news breaks at your doorstep. And when you think they were making those photos just a hundred yards away while I was in lessons and I was completely clueless.
  20. Indeed. And besides that, it's also fun :D I did try swimming lessons... but when they told me to swim down and get the rubber rings from the floor I just kicked them up with my feet, caught them and pretended instead. It taught me how to lie through my teeth instead - a much more vital life skill. ;)
  21. That is because most people either like blink 182 or hate them, their is no in between. Personally I don't like them, not my style. I am in between. Some songs I like, and the other ones I loathe. [/hide] Well I find myself wrong then. From personally experience I've never meet or heard of someone who was in between before. I listen to blink-182. blink-182 is one of the few albums I've actually bought. I download the rest of my music as singles/one-off songs. But they're the most immature punk wannabes ever. Apart from Travis, he's sound. I cannot stick the other two as people.
  22. So much for America being a country which doesn't bow down to fear.
  23. /thread, tbh, except possibly in a desperate war-time situation. Otherwise, it just waters down the army.
  24. Depends whether it comes with a prepaid envelope. Most of them provide free phonelines instead.
  25. Not only has the UK banned guns, but they have banned toys that look like guns, toy swords, beer glasses, fire extinguishers, and are considering banning pointy kitchen knives. Why? Because despite banning more and more different objects, the violent crime rate in the UK continues to increase. Oh get off. When I go on a caravan holiday, there's a fire extinguisher. When I go to the pub, it's usually in a glass. I can buy toy plastic swords at a theme park no problems. I can buy kitchen knives from any domestics store. It's not half as authoritarian here as you make out. Can the pro-gun lobby actually come up with a decent argument against the UK's stance except from grasping straws? Coming up with an image that says people still die from guns here, when the stat is only 73:11344 is a plainly ridiculous argument too.
