Promethium 2h vs. Primal Battleaxe Bind
I figure this would be a stupid question ("No" is the obvious answer), but what's the stance towards using a battleaxe over a 2h when both weapons are in the same tier? (eg. Prommy Baxe vs Prommy 2h) Does having a CSB in this circumstance make the battleaxe "worth it" for its one-handed nature, higher crush bonus and easier access to mage?

Dungeoneering's Impact on the Community at Large
"Teaching" needs to be defined. There is some difference between training and coaxing out a person's own skill and experience so they can develop their own competency at a given task, and just simply teaching them that task without any further detail. Sadly, the most efficient method in RuneScape is the latter rather than the former, which is what you're appealing to, and the reason for that is because RS is almost completely goals-orientated. A counterexample I would make is learning a new job in real life. There's no end 'goal' to having a job, the primary aim of which is a wage, the need for which never ends. People work indefinitely, or at least until the time comes that they decide to leave or retire. Therefore, there's no set timescale that new employees needing training for, and therefore it makes more sense for the company and the employee for them to learn the skills rather than each task so that any new responsibilities they take on at a later date are already underpinned in principle. It also helps the company as a whole to innovate and expand. This is not true for RuneScape. If you're training a new group of dungeoneers, it makes more sense to teach only the very basics such that they would be able to help their clanmates to whatever personal goals they hold. It makes no sense whatsoever to teach them the underlying skills, just on the offchance they may decide to turn "teacher" later on. Sadly, this pattern is quite familiar in RuneScape. Just look at Pest Control--once the "big thing" in RuneScape, coordinated by many, many clans, each of which taking an interest in teaching basic competency to its members. Nowadays, barely any clans exist and the designated worlds are almost completely occupied by botters. Once the elite, honest-playing pioneers have reached their end goals, there's often no infrastructure left for those following them to make their own strides, and what Jagex has universally failed with in RuneScape is giving an incentive for players to continue playing a minigame once that "must have item" has been attained (a 120 DG cape in this case) so that those players at the top have something to gain from passing on their skills, knowledge and experience to those wanting to come through.

Sagittare Dungeoneering Boss
I'm not sure the comment on gatestone teleporting is appropriate either, given most people c1 the floors they find Sagi on, in which case they mage from distance. Also, it doesn't fit in with the rest of the sentences, since they are hard facts, whereas that is situational advice.

Rebuilding trust in the community?
^ I had the same thought. Seemed too much of a coincidence for there not to be a connection but apparently not.

Jagex's new building/mansion in Cambridge
They'd kick bot impersonators out, I'm pretty damn sure, regardless of your ability to enter the United Kingdom (or lack thereof).

Other things you do to entertain yourself
If it's something that requires my full attention such as granite powermining or slayer, I'll stick some music on in the background. If it's something I only need to half-watch over, I'll either study, read or do my Wikipedia work (of which there's usually plenty enough to keep me occupied). I don't know... apart from minigames and dungeoneering, I see RuneScape as something "to sink my teeth into" rather than something which entertains me.

Is Jagex trying to kill runescape?
Correction: While it continues to Jagex's only profit centre.

Is Jagex trying to kill runescape?
The fact is Jagex have always measured RuneScape's overall success by the popularity and ease of access to its F2P model. Not even they would agree that subscription numbers alone are an adequate measure of RuneScape's success right now compared to its traditional past. Or does this not matter to your apparent denial that RuneScape is at least in some sort of stagnation, probably even decline?

Read: New York v. Strauss-Kahn. A week in jail, placed under house arrest, political life all but totally destroyed--no conviction.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
That law still exists in the UK, it's just almost never used unless the kid is in serious danger, in which case the police and social services would have a reason to get involved anyway. I'd agree if you'd have said the enforcement of that law is stupid and always has been. [/hide]No I'm pretty sure I am correct, it's only if the person over 18 is in a position of trust. It's pretty significantly difference, and nothing like the law in the US. Ahh right, that might be where I've got mixed up. I've worked at organisations which have under-16 groups and I'd been told that relationships between myself and them have to be strictly professional, not emotional or sexual (not that I was trying anyway, it was part of mandatory training). I mistook this as being because I'm over eighteen, not also because I'm in a position of trust. Oh, we have to change our opinion completely just to understand where you're coming from in the first place. Seems fair... They're humans. They're not "creatures" in any context disimilar to how you and I are "creatures". I have a feeling that if this person only served fifteen months, it wasn't for anything as predatory as you seem to be implying. Nor does it explain why Jagex needed to air his dirty laundry in front of millions of people, leading to public humiliation as well the destruction of his livlihood, quite a few years after he'd already served his time. Yes, it's the classic "You're not a mother so you don't understand" argument. It is of course well known that in the process of childbirth there occurs a process of divine intervention where some esoteric knowledge enters your brain, knowledge that no one else could possibly comprehend. Perhaps you want to lecture us on how you 'know' breastfeeding is better than doing it from formula, just like the rest of Mumsnet. In any case, stop using the fact that you're a mother as some kind of argument to suggest you know what's right, and what we think is wrong because of it. It's irrelevent.

06-Sep-11 - New High Level Prayer Potion
It's not something to go crazy over but not every update can be as decisive as that anyway. We always knew we were never looking at the next GWD, in terms of a game-changing shift in focus. It was only ever going to be a new prayer potion with a couple of crops to farm. The BTS implied nothing else.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
I don't usually jump onto the Jagex-bashing but... I do have to consider your point of view there. As far as I know, everyone on RuneVillage had already been made aware of the site's owner's history and this conviction of a sexual offence. There was no evidence to suggest any children were in imminent danger of being abused by this man, and all the safeguards had already been put into place by RuneVillage themselves as well as the courts. As a company, I can understand why Jagex would want to disassociate themselves from him and that's obviously why they removed the special status of the site in their eyes, but to then broadcast it to the world claiming you're trying to make children safer is a bit incredulous when all necessary preventative measures have already been put into place. Almost like coming to the scene of a heart-attack after CPR has already been performed, just to stick a plaster on. That alone is suspicious enough, but I could easily go further and debate how Jagex's actions in this have paradoxically made children less safe, not more: There was no necessity for Jagex to do anything except remove their status and, frankly, since they are a private company as everyone keeps pointing out, they don't have to justify that action.

It still doesn't explain the fairly ridiculous attempts to 'know' that child sex offenders never change by intuition alone. It really is just a poor excuse of an argument.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
No no, the Internet isn't an excuse for crap debating, it's just part and parcel of it. You know nothing about this person... I mean literally nothing. We don't even know it was related to child porn, we suspect it might be. That's the level of competence you're all showing here--you saw "sex offender" and went "hang him the filthy perv". It's cringeworthy that this has been labelled under 'discussion', it's just two sides shouting about something they can't possibly know to be true.

Yay, amateur psychology from people who don't know what they're really saying, about someone they've not known about for anything more than five minutes. This [cabbage]storm is going to end well...

02-Sep-2011 - Bonus XP Weekend - 9th to 12th of September
Herblore is definitely the priority, level 66 on a combat level 111 account means I've fallen behind the eight-ball slightly. Plan is to make farm snapdragons myself until I have enough unfinished potions for 69 making super restores, which will only be about 600. With plenty of the bonus multiplier left after that, I'm buying as much lantadyme unfinished potions and ground dragon scale as possible to make antifires. Make as much as I can, sell 'em, buy some more, and just keep going for as long as I can. I'm hoping to make level 72 at a conservative guess, maybe 73. To be honest, the amount of planning there doesn't come close to amount of planning I've had to do to secure cashflow in the weeks running up to the BXPW, with herb prices crashing all around and clean snapdragons being my main source of income. That's been a nightmare, and in the past week I've only been able to secure 2m extra funds.

ConsoleScape
Erm... nope. Final Fantasy XI was released onto PC and then onto PS2, followed by the Xbox 360. Jagex are not the first company to attempt cross-platforming in the MMORPG genre at all. And yes, before you go there, PC users can interact with users on other consoles, and vice versa. So there's barely any profit, there's no significant gain in profile on Nintendo's part, and there's no novelty in the italicised statement... What possible major interest would Nintendo or any of the three major companies have in setting aside their own differences just so Jagex, a relatively small independent games studio in Cambridge, can get what they want and stick a half-dead product on all three of their shelves?

01-Sep-11 BTS September
Here is different, because Tip.It has more than its fair share of high levelled players, but I wonder how much of the RS population as a percentage can actually do ROTM. If you have the reqs, you have an amazing new quest. If you don't, and the herblore update also turns out to be high levelled, this is basically a content-less month.

Advertising on P2P?
To back up Newb, it's not just for browsers. When I downloaded the official RuneScape client, adverts appeared at first, but once I logged in they were removed, and have remained off ever since. I've not noticed any subliminal messages popping out either.

ConsoleScape
Right... a game played by, even at your questionable estimations, hundreds of thousands of people can really provide some meaningful assistance to a company whose current home console has sold well over eighty million units, to the point where it might just save them from 'flopping'. It's not a topic, it's just laughable you would honestly even think that any of the three major companies would care that much about getting Jagex on board.

Jiblix and Ken Genosis Demodded Over Speaking Out
The inclusion of a Bejewelled-esque puzzle in yesterday's new quest did amuse me a little bit. Granted, it wasn't the actual Bejewelled game that's been nominated, but the award is meant for the developers behind the games, and from where I'm sitting, Jagex just blatently ripped it off.

31-Aug-2011 The Branches of Darkmeyer
So do I, but I got let off today after burning myself. Go run your hand under a boiling hot water tap whilst making a cup of coffee for a client like I did next time. <_< Is this the end of multirunning Barrows then? Surely the teleport to Burgh de Rott and back to Barrows is not only free, but faster and safer because you can reload on supplies, none of which is true for tracing your way back through the tunnels and starting with Dharok again.
