  1. That might be the first emote in rs that I've seen that is completely worth every penny of the 3.6bI can't help but agree.
  2. The fact that that emote costs 3.6 billion GP is as hilarious as the emote is adorable.
  3. I think there's been talk about how there should be one, but as far as I know there isn't. I tried writing something along those lines (1, 2), but it hasn't aged well and I doubt it was very helpful to begin with.
  4. Overreacting is a must.
  5. There's a trope for that.
  6. I should apologize for provoking you with an unclear article. :-P
  7. Generally, I'd like for it to be reasonable to train skills at the same rate as/alongside combats, and for the rewards to be useful by the time you get them*. If the new end goal is to max and be a boss hunter, design the game so that it supports that. As it is, we're playing a game where the "official" material says that you can play however you like, while only really rewarding one style. Most skills haven't really changed since the old days, and to say their age is showing is an understatement. I'm not really satisfied with their promises here, because it really feels like everything that isn't a high-end boss has either proven lackluster or been delayed until next year. *Birthright of the Dwarves requires stats in the low-mid 80s and is balanced so that you need at least T70 equipment (80+ recommended) to finish it, yet rewards you with the ability to wield the T60 staff and hammers. This is basically what I'm arguing against.
  8. That aside, look at it this way. I'm well aware that you can play the game that way, the question is "why would you?". Why would you bother fishing your own food when you can kill monsters for the same amount of time and end up getting enough money to buy more food than you could have fished yourself? Why would you mine essence when the average slayer task gets you more essence? Where is the balance in that? When the game tells you that you should do all of that, though, you cheat - not by gambling or merchanting, but by botting or buying gold. That's the point. I'm not attacking those styles (though I constantly have to fight the urge to), I'm attacking the fact that new and inexperienced players are essentially being given the wrong way to play. This is the kind of game where "How do I make money?" is the most common question. Guess which options are the most visible? I left out the Pokemon stuff intentionally, because paraphrasing this would be too technical for a site where not everyone plays the game, and when only a relatively small portion of Pokemon players will be able to understand it.
  9. I don't think I've had an assignment graded around this idea until college, and even then it was only in a communication studies class based on group work. It's a much better way to give people a stake in the project.
  10. Until you use it as a free pass to ignore feedback and concerns... Generally, that's not a good idea. Then again, "LALALA EVERYTHING'S PERFECT YOU'RE JUST DOING IT WRONG LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU" may well be this forum's catch phrase.
  11. Granted. After this wish is granted, someone kicks a soccer ball through your window, and it completely destroys your computer. On the plus side, the replacement is better in every possible way. I wish I could hear this song more clearly.

That brings up an interesting question.
  13. So much this. There are some tricks that make this the case, especially in X/Y. Everstone guarantees that the nature and ability (when applicable) of the holder will be passed down, power items guarantee one IV from the holder and randomizes the rest, while the destiny knot guarantees five IVs from both/either parent will (The last will be randomized). Furthermore, mons from the friend safari are guaranteed two perfect IVs, and wild mons in this egg group are guaranteed three: this wouldn't normally be useful since that's the "can't breed" group, but some of them evolve out of it. It still takes a while, and there's still an element of luck to it, but it's much better than the "put them in the day-care and pray to every possible deity" method of the past. Plus, people use wonder trade to dump their own breeding projects, so you could easily get a mon with good-to-great stats and possibly some egg moves, and use that to get a head start on your own.
  14. Depending on how long this runs.
  15. My gut response was "No!" but the more I think about this, the more I like it. Granted, I still don't want to see it ingame, but that's because it's too late now: we needed this to have been standardized across the entire degrade system seven years ago.
  16. Eh? I was under the impression that you could sell the shards as-is, and get that portion of the money. At the same time, players can buy a number of shards at a time, and then assemble the item at their own pace (So I could buy 1/120 of a seismic wand every so often, then build my own).

Your posts are just very unlikeable oh god I am so sorry Your posts are the only ones with that problem. Odd.
  18. It's on Steam now. Would try it, but games backlog. Dragon's Dogma and Alpha Protocol first. 10 parts in Crystal!
  19. With not one, but TWO budges! As with most Elf Monster games, the pace really picks up after the fourth. [spoiler=The title is supposed to be funny!] Remember how I forgot to pick up the strength HM? That's resolved. Now we can move on. By which I mean fight this thing Which is not, in any way, a cow. Completely different phyla, there. As this is an ocean route in a Pokemon game, there were Tentacool. I took the opportunity to replace MALI With JELLY. She's going to have a long and fruitful career with me. By which I mean she'll be replaced by the red gyarados. Oops. Spoilers. Moving on, For five hundred years have we waited... Until now, of course It's working. A drug so strong, that not even its creator will take it... DIBS! So now that I've boxed MALI, I needed a new surf user Who apparently is missing a move. It's apparently poison sting. Game: 1025 Alg: 3 Spoilers: they were. Please tell me this is untranslated Chinese. Can I? Yes. Those last 9 parts were just for practice. Now the game actually starts. And we have another member of Hyt chat! YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR ALL MY LIFE OH LOOORD And here's badge number 5. Google translate tells me this means "Shock". Erika adds that it means shock as in "shocking". The Japanese name for the badge is "Shock Badge". Well done, game. So the storm badge is the: A) KNOCKING BADGE B) ZHENHAN BADGE (/Shock) C) DUANYE BADGE Moving on. Another pretty good statement in English. At this rate, I may be able to understand some of it without having to get a translation. Wherein I give drugs to a creature that looks like it was made on drugs. So now I can go to that empty GYMNASIUM This is by far the hardest gym in the franchise. /me begins writing fanfiction Don't we all? Another day, another HYT member. Except I have this, so losing is literally impossible. But just to change things up a bit... Learning how and why the translation is so botched is just as interesting as the end result! Help me, I'm becoming a linguist. Moving on, Two BUDGEs and the plot left! Assuming the game doesn't break again, of course. [spoiler=NEXT TIME... ON POKEMON VIETNAMESE CRYSTAL] I GROW A MANLY BEARD [spoiler=Behind the scenes!]

You could also simply look at it as a legend: the truth behind it warped into the version they know of today after thousands of years. So you get something like "Lion-turtles gave the power of earthbending, but the form that's used today was adapted from the style used by badger-moles" becoming "the first earthbenders learned from the badger-moles" and eventually "badger-moles taught the first earthbenders" as the details were lost over time. So it's less a contradiction and more that the characters telling the story are repeating local myths. Korra is probably the only human that knows the true version of it, and only because she (re)lived it. If it's intentional, it's a brilliant way to add depth to the setting: each culture gets its own mythology to go with the greater lore behind everything. If it's not, it's the best kind of serendipity. Maybe it's just me, but the idea that a legend evolved over ten thousand years is one of those things that makes the world a bit more believable, and it fits the theme of change.
  21. Granted. The French freak out because that's not supposed to happen, but the tourists love it. Paris becomes the tourism capital of the world. I wish I could.
  22. True. It really depends on the people and the situation, as with every social situation. I'm guessing a good rule of thumb is not to be a dick if you don't have to? :-P As for hostility... I have no idea.
  23. It's not even a good mechanic in other games. It always either ends up being so easy that you only have to bother with it if you just picked the game up for the first time, or it's a frustratingly luck-based challenge disguised as a skill one. I mean, I understand the point there, but better games have tried. I don't think any of them have succeeded.
  24. Shameful lack of posts here.
