What do you think makes a good teacher?
Being able to deviate off the main topic a little to bring up a point about how the lesson applies to everyday life, but then being able to get back on topic again. Being able to connect with and understand their students - such as acknowledging the fact that most of those kids are there against their will (specifically talking about high school with this one). Being able to make and take a joke - students don't want to listen to an anti-humor grouch. Being able to express their personal opinions without discouraging students to feel differently. Being able to exceed the curriculum, by having thought-invoking discussion on the subject instead of just forking out assignments. Being well-spoken. So yeah, your average college professor isn't a very good teacher - they just happen know a lot about the subject. A lot of professors feel that it's the student's responsibility to keep up and learn - and not the professor's "to make friends". But the fact is, there are more efficient teaching methods than just reading an excerpt from a textbook. You are responsible for conveying that information effectively to your class. If you're getting paid for your service, you shouldn't be scraping by doing bare minimum. That being said, this world needs better teachers. Good luck and I hope you will be one of them.

Most Wanted Sequels
What? This? GTA has evolved so much since then. It would be interesting to see Rockstar's portrayal of gangsta London today, with the radio stations, real cut scenes, characters, and the whole modern GTA charm (and graphics) in general.

What's wrong with this line of reasoning?

Hungry Jacks is better than McDonalds
Oh, my mistake. I thought by, "I never had a problem," you meant you never had a bad experience, instead of you never had a bad opinion about them. But yeah, it is extremely annoying when someone gets feisty because they didn't get their order 100% right. As long as you're not missing any orders, I don't see what the big deal is, unless you're allergic or something. And most of the time it's not even that they care about eating the mayo - it's the principal. Just calm the [bleep] down and eat your $1 chicken sandwich. #-o And they call me a picky eater?

Vegetarianism
Eh, I generally try to avoid Googling something controversial like that because different sites say different things, I dislike reading lengthy off-site articles, and I'd rather hear a TIFer's personal input on it and have them be rewarded one free post count. :shades: Besides, that link didn't really give much support, just claims and then a bunch of jokes following. It says the nervous system isn't fully developed but yet it still feels pain. Don't you need a brain to perceive/register the feelings you get from your nerve receptors as "pain"? ... Here's an interesting question to (moral) vegetarians: Do you normally kill bugs?

Vegetarianism
Question: To get the same amount of vitamins you get from meat, would you need to eat a (much) higher quantity of those foods? PS: Plants can feel pain? WTF?? Seriously?

Vegetarianism
Now that you mention it, I definitely remember there being a strong correlation between "progressive open minded" kids and vegetarianism in my old high school.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
The Onion. "One out of every five Americans believe Obama is a cactus." They are surprisingly even more idiotic than the people they're making fun of. Get a real job, such as cleaning out gas station restrooms, begging for change on the side of the road, or training and selling WoW accounts. It reminds me of the whole "Vampires Suck" thing. Yes, Twilight is stupid. If you really need to go to through all of that trouble to get the point across that Twilight is a bad movie, like it's not already de facto, then for god's sake, someone with a heart just poison their food and end their suffering already.

"I wish you could just pick me up and carry me." Lol. Almost as funny as the tauren in Bloodhoof who says, "Can you help me find my dog?" (in Herbert the pervert's voice).

Vegetarianism
Honestly, the best reasons I've heard to not eat meat were these: If it was because you were raised that way, I don't find that as a good reason. I was raised a Catholic, but I'm very glad I questioned my beliefs and ended up on what I believe is a more logical (and even moral) religious standing. I prefer progression over classicism. If it's because it's believed to be immoral, I can just as easily say it's immoral to let the meat go to waste and cause small critters to die because of the way vegetables, grains, and fruits are gathered. Also, just because I eat meat does not mean I condone animal abuse. I am against that, although weirdly it's not so much because I care about the animal, it's that a human being's intention to want to inflict suffering on them in the first place is disgusting. As for what's healthy, I never done the research so I wouldn't know. All I know is that both sides claimed their methods are the more healthier of the two. As for "we're not meant to eat meat", this is the silliest. We probably weren't "meant to" invent electricity either then. That's no grounds to say we shouldn't. We, as humans, have something other animals don't have - the ability to use logic. We might not have claws or razor sharp teeth, but we do have highly functional brains which can lead to us creating tools that are even more efficient than anatomic weapons at acquiring nourishment. Personally, my life would suck without meat, it's one of the things that gets this animal up in the morning.

Selfish breeding
I would disagree (not about the pool example). Parents have to change their whole lifestyle to ensure their child's satisfaction. It might be "selfish" to ensure another's happiness, but I don't think it's selfish in the context of all the sacrifices they make. Generally, when it comes to the traditional usage of the word, I would say it's unselfish to make sacrifices, despite the personal good feeling you get on the inside from doing so. Let's agree to disagree then... Woo, I'm half a year late, but I get your point now. You're saying that it's selfish because they are your blood - I interpreted it as "it is selfish because it makes you feel good to be a good parent". Couldn't the same be said for any (even traditionally charitable) actions? You chose to donate to this cause (that you personally probably cared for more) instead of that one, therefore your donation was selfish. If we go down this road, everything we do is ultimately selfish and it's pointless to discuss. Also, I'm assuming, by the pool example, that you're talking about having your child use up humanity's resources, space, adding to the population, causing problems for others to deal with, etc. and since you are allowing your child to be born (and, in turn, the ability to suck up resources) this is selfish because those resources could have all went to someone who isn't your blood. But how do you know your child won't be a contributor to humanity? In fact, as unrealistic as it is in truth, a lot of parents do believe their children are capable of making the world a better place and raise them as such, and thus isn't really based on selfishness by the traditional usage. Obviously this is not true for every case though. Selfish is just a funny word for human beings to use. Obviously, any action we do is because we believe it has a desirable effect, and our desire implies our selfishness. To avoid such futility for the term, I think anything that implies at least an ounce of humility or sacrifice (based on the context) could be considered unselfish. But yes, technically speaking, it is still selfish.

Real life help & advice
Being a regular bus rider (or as my friend and I like to call them: drifters). Seriously, I've never seen such a Spengbabish collection of people, ever. Even Walmart doesn't hold a candle to the public bus. One of the bus drivers created a system when if an annoying regular is about to get on board, he quickly puts a newspaper on the seat behind him and tells them that some bum pissed there, in order to avoid having long strange conversations with them. And another bus driver trolls me every time I get on. Only me though...

Hungry Jacks is better than McDonalds
It depends on what items you choose. You can get a double cheeseburger for around a buck - with all the condiments and the service of someone preparing it for you. I consider that a great deal compared to all of my other options. Some items are extremely overboard though, such as their $5 salads.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
You see this kind of thing in every cause though. It pops up on both sides of every political or religious debate we have here about evenly. Quite annoying too. Not so much "annoys the hell outta me" level as much as "okay get on with it" level. True, I think I've just had too many bad experiences in vegetarianism arguments that I forgot there are legitimate reasons out there.

Hungry Jacks is better than McDonalds
Racheya: I agree that all the McDonalds hate is a bit unwarranted but are you really saying you've never had a bad McDonalds experience before in your life? You are a rare exception. Or maybe it's just your area. There are so many times when I get stale fries, sloppy burgers, bad service, etc. That being said, I'd still much rather have McDonalds over half of the frozen grocery foods I've been having to endure lately. McDonalds serves its purpose as a shabby but convenient spur-of-the-moment place to eat.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
All of those (except for #1) are legitimate reasons. There are some good reasons for being a vegetarian, but I got to say that most I've heard (especially on that vegetarianism debate thread) are just ridiculous. "Humans weren't meant to eat meat." "It's immoral." "Meat is detrimental to your body." "Eating meat = condoning animal abuse." Really, if it comes down to your preference, there's obviously nothing wrong with it. It's when vegetarians point the finger of shame at meat-eaters that grinds my gears, and those terrible arguments they try to use. I would attempt to shove a fist into his mouth.
