I could easily say that the Prohibition Act proves that underground gun trafficking will become a huge problem, and the US government will try to stop them, but since the criminals will all be well armed, it will cause a lot more carnage and chaos than if guns were trafficked legally. Point here being that you're throwing around the word "prove" too lightly. The other point being that a lack of legalization does not stop America from doing what they want to do and can actually have a counterproductive effect. And how about for all the times where it isn't possible and it really is a matter of killing the armed man or allowing him to go through with his intentions to kill the innocent? I thought we just came to a consensus about the "guns are helpful here/guns are not helpful here" scenarios.

I value human morale and integrity, those who maliciously offend it should have no part in our society. They are a detriment and an enemy to society, and I don't know how you could argue against that - they are the ones who kill people for little to no reason. They are what we should get rid of - not the practice of self-defense. Would you rather have an innocent child dead or an armed burglar dead? I value the detrimental less because without them, the people who actually do care about human morale and integrity would live more peaceful lives, which they deserve. The armed burglar is indifferent to an innocent person's right to life. Why give him a right he doesn't even agree with? He's undeserving and it's not worth the risk. So, in America, you believe that bringing guns off the main market will cause gangs, murderers, burglars, etc. to all of a sudden give up their ways of life? Making something illegal isn't exactly the best way to stop America from doing something. Let's take marijuana for example. It is not readily available on the main market, yet is still an extremely common activity amongst teens. The Prohibition Act showed exactly what happens when you ban something that Americans believe they deserve the right to. Ironically, it caused more problems because it allowed underground gangster alcohol trafficking to thrive.

Started a new main character for the 30th time: A Tauren Warrior named Oatmilk who has an overall positive attitude when it comes to adventuring, but is timid in every other aspect of life. I WILL NOT start over once I reach level 20 just because I don't like the name. Oatmilk is foolproof.

I've been getting back into Final Fantasy 9 and I just beat the first disc. For this particular playthrough, I'm just trying to get nearly everything except for Excalibur 2. I want to get a nice "feel" for the game and have some fun before I'm forced to rush through the game for a perfect file. PS: I forgot how in depth the abilities and equipment are compared to most other Final Fantasies. I [bleep]ing hate the excessive button mashing (dialogue) in this game though.

What? Having power of the situation? Great, the innocent deserve that. In that case, why not have a mandatory self-defense training program for any civilian wanting to purchase a gun? Then their abilities to use a gun responsibly and professionally would be on par with policemen. There are many situations where a cop can't be contacted, can't make it in time, etc.

Of course the Islamic rule that you must wear one is ridiculous, but that's no justification for you to decide what people are not allowed to wear. It seems hypocritical to me. That's just one more country that these women are being oppressed in.

Yes, but they're still equipped with guns. Some cases don't require the brute lethality of a gun. A street brawl or riot, for example, could easily be stopped with a taser. Now how about the situation where you see several armed burglars walk up to your front door? Or you see criminals shooting at your family? So... why are cops equipped with guns? And better yet, why are they a criminal's weapon of preference? If somebody is pointing a gun at you already, it's probably game over. The best thing would be to abide by their commands and, if you are ballsy enough, you could stealthily pull out a weapon if you get an opportunity. It's happened before - and I bet they'd rather have a gun with them than pepperspray. Maybe we should ask a cop. Your scenario is only based on the fact that the criminal already has a gun aimed at your head. What about the scenario where you see the criminals coming before they know where you're at? Or the scenario where the criminals only have knives? Pepperspray < knife < gun. I don't understand why you guys think it's a good idea for the innocent to be equipped with a less effective weapon than the criminal.

"Guns are the most lethal weapons available, yet they aren't effective at dealing with dangerous criminals." Let's be realistic here. Is pepperspray really that smart of a move against someone equipped with a lethal weapon? And how effective would your pepperspray be if there were multiple offenders involved? With a gun, just pointing it is usually enough to be an effective method of self-defense. Why are cops equipped with guns?

There's no doubt that guns are more lethal, but don't you think a criminal would try a little harder if they were forced to use a less effective weapon but still wanted to commit the crime? Also, saying that guns are more lethal than any other weapon is a good argument for self-defense.

How is the particular implement used to commit a crime in any way relevant to a discussion of gun availability? It doesn't matter if you are shot or stabbed, you are still dead. Masque was asking for statistics involving knife/scissors/halberd/etc. crimes to see if there's a correlation behind banning guns and criminals just using different weapons to compensate.

9/11 showed the horrors of what hatred and extremism can do. Commemorating it might be fueled by grudges for some people, but to others it's a way of saying that we should really make some moral progress with our humanity, learn to be more tolerant and peaceful, etc. There's more to it than the death tolls. I do not think that the victims should be treated any different, but the situations definitely should be.
