  1. I think he meant that the underground trade of firearms and mafia business and the general anarchy that ensured would be comparable to the Prohibition. You are insane, right? Do you not realize how many men died in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to prevent that very thing from happening? I agree with tighter gun laws, but the outright outlawing of firearms (with a government monopoly, no less!) is perhaps the most frightening thing I have ever heard. Thomas Paine once said "The People should not fear their government. Instead, the Government should fear it's people."
  2. Or, *gasp* tell someone that they're being bullied! Oh my god, I'm a genius! Not quite. Other children would lable that student as a "tattle" which will discourage them from doing it in the future. Nothing says "leave me alone" like a swift jab to a pressure point.
  3. We can't take them away, either. For the US, all I can think of to legally tighten gun laws is a psych profile along with the criminal background check.
  4. Bullying is not going to stop. What needs to happen is school programs on self-defense and the relaxing of "defensive fighting" rules so that the children being bullied can defend themselves without having to bottle this behavior up.
  5. Teenagers aren't even allowed to have guns, are they? their parents are in the U.S. and im pretty sure that any teenager on the edge would find a way to get to its parents gun. The shooter in VA Tech was a first-generation student from Korea. His parents would be 6000 miles away. The thing is, he was 23. I am only 21 and I could have both the Berretta and the Ruger he used in 14 days.
  6. Well, you have to remember that England's the primary reason FOR the Second Amendment. :P We could start doing psychological profiles for handguns on top of criminal background checks.
  7. Then why countries with stricter gun laws tend to have a lot less violent crimes? It's true that guns can be gotten every where around the world if you just really want it, but making them harder to get reduces the chances of them being used. Look at the massacre in the school for example; How on earth can a school student get a damn rifle? The nation with the lowest crime rate on Earth is Switzerland. Every household is required by law to have at least one military issue assault rifle. And the Second Amendment is vital to the survival of the United States as someone stated magnificently above. We can not let the only legal guns be held by the government.
  8. A total ban will do nothing. Keep in mind that the shooting today was carried out with an assault rifle, which is outlawed in the US. When you make guns illegal, only the criminals will have the guns. Not to mention it kicks the crap out of the Second Amendment. And look at Switzerland. Every household is required by LAW to have a gun. Lowest crime rates in the world.
  9. I will make ONE exception. If you can make Gerard Butler with the Shoop thing's face charging saying "THIS IS..." and then have it fire the damned laser saying "SPARTAAAAA" then I will allow it.

Depends on where you live. I live in desert conditions and just gave up on contacts since it's too dry. Not to mention the odd sandstorm can catch you with your eyes down.
  11. For someone who doesn't know what a 1082 is, I worry about your tax return. Fortunately my father is a CPA (and a CIA!) so he takes care of my taxes. I have a feeling that I will be getting the talk about how to do it for myself this coming year, though. EDIT: Weren't taxes supposed to be filed yesterday?
  12. I'd like to complain about the Louisiana State Government (even though I don't live there) for making the Federal Government take the fall for Hurricane Katrina. Disaster relief is under the jurisdiction of state governments, as well as the upkeep of public works (ie. Levies). I actually think it was extremely generous of the Federal Government to give New Orleans 8 billion dollars less than a day after the disaster.

    Booo. Should be Dallas.
  14. He was not James Bond, he was Jimmy Bond. For all intents and purposes, he was the first Austin Powers.
  15. If the average chav looks anything like that picture, I could flick them away. Thank God we don't have anything like that in the States.
  16. I usually carry a small folding blade with me. It's college, nobody cares.

Hate to spoil misconceptions, but absolutely no story-material has been stated. There is a high chance of it being a reboot during Kirk's tenure as captain of the NCC 1701. However, it's not going to be Starfleet: 90210 as the OP had originally thought. Of course, it could be anything. Nothing's been confirmed.
  18. Too bad, I've been watching BSG on it for weeks :P.

Pretty sure that's just lighter fluid, judging from the container.
  20. It makes you a hypocrite since you do nothing but constantly attack us who openly declare our faith. And then call us closed-minded. I have never called you closed minded, nor have I attacked you. Depends what you mean by attack. What do you mean by attack? Edit: Although by the second defintion of close-minded i pointed out i would say you are closed minded. And by that same definition you are still closed-minded...but let's not get into a proverbial game of "No, you!" :P No, you don't attack me. However, you constantly attack my faith. And that is one of my defining characteristics and the mainstay of my life. So pretty much calling Christians close-minded would be like just saying it to me.
  21. Why even bother asking? If you are playing this game to accumulate fictional wealth, you need to reconsider your stance playing here. Just concentrate on having fun. Greed and envy over GeePees is the sole cause of hackings, scammings, etc. Concentrate on the good parts of the game.
  22. It makes you a hypocrite since you do nothing but constantly attack us who openly declare our faith. And then call us closed-minded. I personally am a mix of the two. Which there is nothing wrong with.

... why? If you're white like snowstorm when you arrive at this desert area, why would your child, or his child, or the next, be born with darker skin? What mechanism makes that possible? Err...adapting to your environment? High concentrations of melanin makes your skin more resistant to UV light. I am not trying to be racist or something, it's fact. Hell, I am white as a sheet but if I spend a lot of time outside I get extremely dark. EDIT: I see what you are going for. It's still only microevolution. The person may look different, but they are still identical to me except for skin tone. Macroevolution has not taken place.

DNA is a complete mapping of our genes, that determines everything from appearance to behavior. The notion that our DNA is 100% identical to primates is simply...moronic... The only thing we have in common with primates is the most shared genetic markers. More than any other living thing on Earth. However, these shared markers are just a fraction of a whole strand of DNA. If we had 96-100% identical DNA to monkies, we'd be climbing trees and eating fleas off of our offspring at this moment. And to Warri0r: Macroevolution is drastically different from microevolution. Someone gave an example of a drastic heating change? Although his example is extreme (all humans would die at that temperature within a day), we would simply adapt over time to a smaller climate change. We would still be humans, just a little more galvanized. And my problem with humans is still in effect. The humans with negative mutations still have a chance to procreate and pass along their genes just as much as those with beneficial mutations. However, mutations do not last. Another: Move into a desert area with a lot of sunlight. You will tan. Over time, your descendants will be born darker and darker. Now, they move to a northern region with less sunlight. Over time, they will become lighter and lighter. Microevolution explains this as simple adaptation to the environment, fluid and temporary. Macroevolution would say that these people would be dark forever, until a better offer from genes came along. Which honestly makes more sense?

You have to remember, though. I believe in microevolution, not macroevolution. A cell does not adapt into a plant or animal. It would have to evolve. And I still think that's fooey. My evidence is the adaptation patterns of humans. Our changes are not permament unless passed on. Natural selection does not ever apply to us.
