I disagree, AVG has gone pretty much downhill, it's not even detecting AntivirusXP 2008, which is a rogue antivirus. Go for Avira or Avast instead.

Update to what I have tried, I'll say even if it's in the first list: - Powercycling - Flushdns - ipconfig /release then /renew (note: there is nothing written as default gateway). - restoring to an earlier date (it did speed up the computer though). - scans, but Kaspersky, Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search & Destroy didn't find anything. Then I've been doing troubleshooting with the ISP. Turns out when I try to ping the router/modem (since it's the same, in my case a siemens speedstream 6520), I get the error code 65. Please anyone if you can help me, I don't want to bring the computer to a repair shop. Oh, and I also tried to install ZoneAlarm, which failed at 22% each time.

Hi, it's me again.. Here's the new problem, I can now connect to the internet, I'm currently downloading the SP3 .iso file, and you know why? Microsoft updates fail, 99/99 updates failed several times, I have tried different ways, and hope that the .iso file will work. I have a question with the .iso file though, do I need to put it on a cd? [hide=]My desktop can't connect to the internet, since for some reaseon, when I'm in the command prompt doing the ipconfig, it says "Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : no-domain-set.aliant", aliant being the ISP. I tell you now, I,m on the laptop using the same modem the desktop uses, and I have no problems going on the internet. Anyway, a few things I have tried are the powercycling, then releasing the ip from the desktop and turning all off (unpluging the modem), and nothing changes when I go back to cmd and look at it... Sorry if my english is bad, I'm quite tired and english is not my first language. If you need the specs, I'll give them, and being tired, there's somethings I might've not thought about that are quite simple reasons it could be like that.[/hide] Thanks in advance for those that will help me.

No. When I had Firefox 2, I had that problem loads of time, and had to go on the task manager to kill that process. Getting Firefox 3 corrected that problem for me. Note: That was all on windows XP.

I believe someone is trying yes, but I'm not sure that person is succeeding. As for security, believe me, Devnull is the one to ask. Avast is not a bad choice, and is becoming decent, and still going uphill, so keep that choice. As for spybot, have you tried a different antispyware, like Ad-Aware? Edit: Thanks for the link, I downloaded it too since I will change for NOD32 when my subscription with Kaspersky ends.

If you haven't done so, you can download Divx, which will embed it's codec in Windows Media Player to let you view .avi files correctly.
