Hoods are better in GDs and plates are better in paths. Unless you do fast floors, you're not going to be pathing enough for a plate to be worth it. This is especially true when you have low combat stats, like the OP, and can't solo GDs effectively.

Ehh, I don't think plates are better than hoods unless you consistently do sub 20 floors. While this isn't very hard for many people, he's pretty new to dg and his floors likely take at least twice as long.

Didn't a lot of Jagex employers leave after the investor deal? A lot of the community JMods seem to have been missing from the forums lately, like Hobhein and other popular mods. :/ Maybe they had the guts to defend their moral and leave with dignity. A lot of community mods left because their hours were changed to be more compatible with their American users. Or at least, that's what they said in the Q&A.

The xp gained over easy/med far outweighs the extra time spent doing the event.

You can only have 5 people in a party MAX. I usually recommend lamps/pengs to around 60. Open resource dungeons as you unlock them. Then start doing meds for your top 5 floors to get used to gating and map reading.

Id pay someone to kill their family and collect their life insurance. Then I'd kill them and take the money. Then I'd use that money to pay someone else to kill their family. Then I'd kill them. Repeat ad nauseum. As long as they have good policies and make it look like an accident, it'll be profitable.

Hard followers should only be done on hard paths (people who say otherwise have no idea what they're talking about). Rush through the events as quickly as possible.

Anywhere that cls is better then a rapier, a maul is better than both. The only exception is wyverns.
