    Today...

[bleep] that. And to make it even more fun, I have to go back in again today for an afternoon shift. Then another 5:30 shift tomorrow that I gotta wake up for at 4. BUT i'm going to capitol hill block party this weekend so i'm stoked. particularly excited to see DIIV, flatbush zombies, deafheaven, jamie xx, and father john misty. Solid lineup. I'm not all that big on flatbush zombies, I think they have huge potential but really need to work on a more interesting style of delivery. That said, I'd definitely see them live if I was already there. Everyone else on that list is great. The only time I got to see deafheaven was pre sunbather and honestly they were garbage. It was probably the crowd, they were the opening band for Loma Prieta and Converge and no one was too into it since there was still 3 hours of concert after them. Everyone I know who's seen them since Sunbather came out have said they're awesome live so that's good.

  3. I started using Untappd recently. I'm not so good at remembering to use it, since I'm still not used to having a smart phone and usually if I'm drinking it's a social thing with friends and I try to stay off of my phone anyways. But I'm hopefully going to start cataloging all the beer I drink so I can have a comprehensive list. I'm not super about ranking out of 5 stars so I'll probably just throw some comments in about what I thought. So if I actually follow through, maybe I'll throw some favorites in here once in a while.

Here's the problem i have though. If i tip only when i receive good service, i'll always receive good service. Whether my server had a bad day, whether she dislikes my attitude for whatever reason. Etc. I'll always receive good service because she'll want to work for her tip. Now, with your "always tip no matter what" mentality, i get a server that takes 15 minutes to take my order, 15 minutes to bring me my drink, brings me cold food, gives me attitude, etc. And you're telling me i should still tip her? I'm sorry, that's laughable logic. You're giving someone a tip for giving you bad service? I've left restaurants where i wouldn't leave a single dollar tip on a $1000 check and i didn't feel bad at all, because the server was bad. Bad to the point i wouldn't go back to that restaurant. And then i've been to places where i'd leave a $50 tip on a $100 check, because the server was awesome. And that's how it should be. You get rewarded for good service, and you don't for bad service. I'd much rather have them increase the price by a flat % instead of making me feel "pressured" to pay some random person for doing their job poorly. I think we agree with each other on pretty much everything? I didn't exactly present my point all that well. What I'm arguing against is withholding tips on principle, no matter how the service is. If a server does an average job (Isn't rude, asks if you want a refill on your drink, etc. I try to give some leniency on time to bring food or alcohol, since that's more dependent on the kitchen or bar), then I feel that that should warrant a tip of around 15%. The point I wanted to make was that with tipping when you encounter service that is really and truly bad, you have control in the situation and can withhold a tip. To me, that seems like a better way to get your point across than to make a scene and demand to talk to a manager who will likely do nothing about it or possibly overreact and fire the server. In my opinion, someone would have to be a truly terrible server for me to want them to get fired. The purpose (or so I assume) of a tipping system is that it isn't a fixed value. I certainly don't think you should always tip everyone 15% regardless of their level of service. In most cases I tip closer to 25% (largely because I am cheap and rarely buy food that costs more than $15 anyways). I personally have never had a server who I felt deserved less than 15%. But if I ever do, I like the concept of tipping because it allows me to reflect that. It is essentially the same thing as a flat 15% increase on item prices would, except with more control for the customer when encountering bad service. I potentially have lower standards than other people when it comes to service though. My only concern is getting my food and drinks.

Yeah, pulling the "We don't tip in my country, so I'm not tipping here either!" card just makes you a elitist [wagon] (Ignorance is a different story. You're still at fault but you're not a bad person for it). I've never understood why people from other places take such issue with it. Like, you can either tip 15% for average service or restaurants will just increase the price of everything by that much (or more) and you have no power when you actually have bad service. It just makes sense, although I'm sure that has a lot to do with growing up with that system. I have friends who pull $30+ an hour as servers on good nights and probably average more than $20. There's no way that they'd make that much if they just got a wage and no tips. Tipping shifts some of the power over a server to the customers from the business owner, which I think is a good thing. That way it's more like they're working for you. Of course, this is the only system I've personally observed so for all I know just giving servers a flat wage could actually be better. But that's not how it is in America and not tipping is just going to make you an [wagon], not change things. People from the country who do it are worse though. And don't get me started on people who cite that [bleep]ing opening scene from Reservoir Dogs to justify not tipping like its some kind of [bleep]ing peer reviewed journal article.

  7. Yep, that's about right. Worcester, Springfield, and Boston. I'm actually from Connecticut, but close to the border.
  8. https://wavvesxcloudnothings.bandcamp.com/ Two super cool bands came together to make an album. Currently only on the second track but I'm about it so far.

Yeah unemployed forever! Totally just saw my roommate playing OSRS in the reflection on the window behind him. I see you Dan. You thought you changed tabs quickly enough when I asked what you were up to but you're wrong. Don't [bleep] on me. Totally going to call him on his shit next time he makes a comment on me posting on a runescape board.

It was a fun fight to watch. I was pulling for Pacman because Floyd is human garbage, but still a good fight. Not that I ever watch boxing, but it was entertaining at least.

I have 45% of my grade for a class in 4 hours. 75 plant families to learn. I've got this shit. Probably. At the very least I won't fail. Tomorrow is my last day of classes of my undergraduate career and likely of my education forever. Jesus [bleep] that's scary.

    Today...

I have my first final tomorrow (well technically a lab practical and a lecture exam) and I only need to pull 38 out of a possible 225 points to pass. That said, I have a 97 in the class right now so I might as well put some effort into it. Just have to learn something like 60 families of plants and a decent subset of their characteristics. But I'm going to the bar in like 4 hours, so we'll see what actually happens. Either way, in less than a week I will have finished up my undergraduate career. Unless I fail a class. But after Monday I expect to spend a full week drinking.

Cool, that's where I'm thinking about getting my first tattoo as well. That or on my left shoulder.
  22. ^ Step 1: Be a white dude. ------------ Went camping this weekend. Made out with a girl I'm friends with. She either blacked out and doesn't remember it or is pretending not to, which is totally cool with me. I'm inclined to believe the former, since she literally fell asleep on top of me. So like, kinda awkward but whatever. (For anyone concerned, she initiated it and had I know she was as drunk as she was I certainly wouldn't have gone with it. We only made out, but I do still feel a little scummy.)
