Do you want a whole system or just looking at cpu+gpu? (since you haven't asked about motherboard/psu etc) This is what i'd do (cpu): Either get Intel C2Q Q6600 2.4ghz - 190$ or Intel C2D E8500 3.16 ghz - 185$ This is because both are very good (altho Q6600 is a bit old, it runs and overclocks great) and Intel (as said) ships Nehalem soon and the mainstream comes next year, and AMD comes with Bulldozer next year (all new architecture). But the Core 2's runs great for the price. But as your budget is quite big i could also recommend Intel C2Q Q9550 2.83ghz - 320$ But it's really up to you. For Nvidia GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 - 300$, GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 - 375$ after rebate or the GTX 260 with 192SP for 240$... I haven't checked a review with the "new" 260... So can't say if it's worth the price or not... But only differs 75$ between the "new" 260 and 280, so i'd put the extra 75$ on 280. But if you want to save some money, i'd get the GTX 260 with 192SP for 240$. These are highend as you see, but since you have quite a budget... Well, sorry for all the text.

Many Intel people here i notice. Personally i wouldn't buy anything but a budget cpu atm (if you like AMD) and wait for Deneb (two first for AM2+ socket comes in december, and the rest for AM3 comes next year if i remember correctly). If you're going for Intel, C2D! Getting Nehalem is damn right stupid. It will cost very much, you'll need: New CPU/Motheboard/RAM=Around 900euros (based on the price i'd pay for the cheapest setup where i live). The new mainstream Intels doesn't arrive until summer/after summer (if i remember right).

Uhm... What? How can you say that the 48xx is obsolete? Please explain it to me... For god sake, the "new" GTX 260 just got some more SP's.

Depends on what you want to spend on the components. AMD Phenom 9950 or Intel Q6600 are about the same, the Q6600 is maybe 5-10% faster but more expensive. Or if you want to spend more, you can go for the Q9550. You should know that Intel comes out with a new line of cpu's in a month or so. And don't get the 8800 ultra unless you get it for a very very good price. Otherwise you have the ATI 4850 - Which is the most bang for the buck. Or you want more performance? ATI 4870 or Nvidia GTX 260.

Upgrading a Laptop
I was watching Bond - Casino Royale lol. Quite suiting, because Nadril created a sub-400$ thread recently - viewtopic.php?f=45&t=767056 Any of those systems in that thread will play RSHD without a problem, and many *regular* games too. It depends... If you don't play games (let's say Far Cry 2, Supreme Commander... etc) but just videos/rs/older games/writing... Then you can go even cheaper. If you're intrested in some options of builds, then tell budget and what you plan on using it for. Remember you need a screen+mouse+keyboard (speakers if you don't have any too) also.

Upgrading a Laptop
As you said, the gpu is the problem. And i'm afraid, this can't be changed (since it's integrated on the motherboard). The laptop is fine otherwise. I have two advices: 1 - Buy a new laptop. 2 - Buy a desktop. If you don't to carry around your stuff often, go for the desktop. As a laptop (even for RSHD with max) will become pricy. You could build a desktop system for about hmm.. Around 300 euros and it would run the stuff without a problem.

Where's the volume icon?!
I'm not lying, i simply forgot that the volume mixer isn't there. That's why, i then wrote you need to go to the notification area and tick the volume.

Nice that you didn't close utorrent first. Right click beside the clock - properties - customize - volume bar - show. Otherwise in notification area - system icons - volume.

How many hours do you play games a day/week/month etc?
I'm not playing games all the time... But the time at the computer (games/writing stuff for school etc...)... Maybe 10h a day? Less on the weekends... Mostly partying then, so i say perhaps 55h.. Give/take a couple.

comp for rs? prebuilt.
Are you forgetting the RAM Windows needs to run? Yes. I forgot about that lol. And i don't know if he can return the product, since he has already used it and opened the package... But i don't remember what the laws say about that. I guess it's the old DDR, which is more expensive than DDR2... But i would still recommend buying a 512mb stick... 1gb costs mucho. Wilcher, in cpu-z... Does it say DDR or DDR2?
-
comp for rs? prebuilt.
Uh, then i don't know what it's doing. "128 MB RAM 75 MB of available free drive space" Is what's required for the program. And you meet both criterias. Altho your ram is a bit low. My guess is that it wants more ram. You could call/mail their support and ask about it, since i've never used this program i don't know much about it.

^ In that case he needs to uninstall some programs and maybe move some music to another hd.

I'm 99% sure you mean ram? Download CPU-Z, run it and go to the SPD section and see what it says (please include type/size/speed). If you're unsure, post a screenshot. Also, klick on slot 1 and 2, to see if you have 1 or 2 sticks there (or if you have more slots) - and say what they add up to for size.

HELP WITH TAB FUNCTION PLEaSE!!!
Fix'd. IE7 is hardly an upgrade. Since he was asking about explorer, i gave him that suggestion. I'm pretty sure that he has heard about Firefox. You could add Opera to the browser option. People here don't seem to like it, only me and the canadian-french dude seems to like it.

Why the hell does it say RC then? When a software has rc after it's name, i interperate it as "release candidate". Yes, I am quite well aware of the naming schema that Java uses for its release-candidates. However, could you please explain this page, since I can't see "RC" anywhere on there? I can explain it with *check his first post*. In his first post, "1.6.0_10-rc". I was reacting to that. That's why i said that he should use a stable version, not a rc. @Salad - If you want something to fix registry issues with, you could download CCcleaner. (with my little knowledge of software) I think that is a bug with IE... It happens once in a while that i crashes, but someone with more knowledge about it should give you a better answer.

Reinstall Java and use a stable version, not a release-candidate. Also, what does the error message say? Post a screenshot or copy the text.

HELP WITH TAB FUNCTION PLEaSE!!!
As far as i know, there's no add-ons or anything that makes you able to tab on IE6. I recommend you upgrade to IE7.

Laptop Suggestion
I would get a cheap laptop and use a desktop for gaming. Do you plan on playing games and such with it? Otherwise i wouldn't pay for a faster gpu. "HP Pavilion dv7-1170us NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T5800(2.00GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm Blu-ray Disc / Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT - Retail" - 1100$, save 50$ after rebate or "ASUS M50 Series M50Vm-B1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T9400(2.53GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS" - 946$ Both got hd's with 5400rpm tho. I'd buy from Zepto, but they don't ship to America.

Laptop keeps shutting down due to heat
Sorry no you shouldn't go for a cooling pad. There's a problem with the laptop that you're not going to cure, and it's only going to get worse, possibly even leading to damage. I repair laptops for a living, what you're doing is like using a sticky plaster to mend a broken leg. Answer me a question: Wouldn't it be better to get it sorted out now which will not cost you much, or to let it get worse and have to replace damaged components which will probably cost an arm and a leg? Go for your solution if you like, but please take advice from a professional and get it repaired. Lol yep, laptops are hell. (partly because i hate them and you can't write on them) They are a hell to repair, it costed 150 f'ing euros to repair a laptop that i spilled some beer over.
