is vista really this bad...
I thought the OS could only use 8 GB of RAM?...128 GB of ram... Alright..I meant I want to see it with what I though was the max, which is 8 GB. Ha, you have to think about the motherboard limit  There's a greater difference in performance between 2 and 4gb of ram. You won't notice much difference between 4 and 8, unless you're multitasking or using heavy-program-x. I've used 64bit Vista for a while now, and i must admit it's running very nice. Haven't run into any problem (except for using 64bit browser). Straight off-hand i can think of, is 16gb "normal" mobo's. Here's a (server) motherboard for Urbestfriend and his maxing ram lol - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813151162

Multi-booter that will let me choose OS at start up?
Hackintosh Guide Here. It seems like a lot of trouble to put it on a windows pc, but it's been made easier by Apple's recent switch to Intel processors (or so I've read, so don't quote me on it). You will probably have to buy a copy of Leopard, because torrenting one like they say in the guide can lead to all sorts of trouble (unless your ideal weekend is reformatting and re-installing 2 Operating Systems, then you're probably golden). They do say you're better off buying Leopard though, so I'll let it slide. Be careful though, messing with the BIOS is like cutting wires on a bomb - one wrong tweak, and your computer is done for. It is illegal to put OSX anything but a product from Apple.

Question for those familiar with NOD32, SpybotS&D,ZA(free)
Nope :P LOL  ... Alright. As for Comodo, I'm beginning to wonder if I should look into it again, seeing as ZA Pro v7 is harassing me and my family due to its' subscription being out. But, I am wondering, does Comodo do the same if its' subscription runs out? :-s ~D. V. "Yes, I know... I'm probably full of questions." Devnull There's no subscription option for the free version of Comodo. So, no.

Ask your questions or sig resizing here!
I was wondering if someone could shrink the number of kb in this picture: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f74/fatbastard2/pendulum-hold-your-colour2.png Currently at 105kb... Which is a bit too much for a sig!

[hide=Text] Fixed the typos (I do hope you meant 1/12th not 1/2th, because one-twoth sounds weird).. You have a good point though. I used to be...well, afraid I suppose is the word, of using vista, because people said it was a pain, and that it's a memory hog and all that. However, since I started using it, I've grown to like Vista. Its not really that slow IMO, especially if you use ReadyBoost (flash drives are only like 10 bucks for a 512MB or 1 gigabyte one). Some tasks, like finding files, seems to be faster in Vista than XP, and opening Programs is faster because of the search bar in the Start Menu. If the 32-bit version is fast to me with only about half the RAM it could have, I would love to try a maxed-out 64-bit version. I'm probably going to get Vista x64 for my next computer when I get the money to build it. [/hide] Maxed out on 64 Business/Enterprise/Ultimate is 128 GB ram, if you're talking about maxing ram lol. If you can, i'd wait until Windows 7 comes out, and get the 64 bit version for your future computer. I hate the Vista start menu, i prefer the menu as on Ubuntu or XP.

is vista really this bad...
It was, but not so much now. When vista came out the problem was that most cheaper laptops only just met the requirements of vista; or that ones bough with windows vista capable sticker were only good enough to run home basic, and people were putting premium and ultimate on them. If you buy a decent laptop now it should run vista fine. The only exceptions I can think to this are really small cheap ones such as the Asus Eee, Yep. A dual core at 1.6ghz +2gb ram on it (or higher) and it will run great on Vista. A mini-laptop runs XP or some Linux dist. I'm annoyed by the green text the Goose puts out.

is vista really this bad...
[hide=Too much text] off topic: jesus christ dude....of course its gonna work on ur pc....look at the hardware >_> thats godly....and about 3k+ worth of stuff on topic: kk i suppose ill get a lappy (<-- dont ask) and 2 gigs of ram...thx guys =P $1050, actually. My 1100$ lappy runs vista like a dream. I threw the SSD in it once just for fun, and it beat the pants off almost any computer I've ever used, except for my 'work' desktop with an SSD. ->As it relates to the topic of the thread: Vista works fine, provided you have the appropriate hardware and specs, as has been said so far. I'm typing this right now on my Vista Home Edition. I have 2 gigs RAM, and it works just fine, so the others were spot on where that is concerned. Compatibility is hardly an issue now, because any company/program manufacturer who is worth something, would have made their programs/products Vista compatible by now, yes? ->Off-topic though: I'm intrigued by your system specs, compfreak847. Just curious though, what exactly does "SSD" mean? and also what part of the system is "Corsair TX750"? [/hide] Yahoo or Google is your friend. SSD=Solid State Drive. For more information - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive Corsair 750=A 750W power supply unit from Corsair. More info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Supp ... _(Computer) (add the ) after the r... weird link) Green text... Why?

Double checking
I would also like to add, what cpu have you chosen? If he already got a cd of some OS, he don't need to buy a new one... But who knows. Also bballer - Why two different screens? Why not chosing two of the same kind?
-
Double checking
As Vidi stated, you either need to change to an Intel cpu with socket 775, or change to a AM2+ motherboard one that supports the Phenom 9950 (make sure the motherboard can handle the 9950!). You have also forgotten a PSU it seems (or you got one that you'll re-use?). Might i also ask why you have chosen two different screens?

Best Internet/Computer protection program/firewall/scanners?
(these three are the ones i got most experience from) Free: Comodo firewall+Avira AV. Pay: Panda IS. And on-demand scans with SpyBot:S&D+Ad-Aware. I'm saying it again, common sense will take you a long way. There are usually AV tests in computer-magazines every now and then, and also information online... So it's just search around and see if you like something.

Internet Speed Tests
I wouldn't call it recent, if we are thinking of the same one. The latest one i remember is from months ago lol. I'm just gonna go ahead and say that my down speed is around 800kb/s (adsl).

RS screen disconnects, then freezes
Is there another computer in your house that you could use, and see if it's the same as with your one? Otherwise i'd try to contact Jagex/your ISP.

Small annoyance
To be honest, i've played UT2004 on a (athlon? don't remember) [email protected]/ATI 9600XT 128mb/512 ram with 40 fps on high settings. So i think it should handle RS fine lol. 512mb ram is probably the biggest problem in 005's computer tho.

No, you friend has a problem with their computer/browser/internet. Changing worlds goes equally fast whether you're on OSX... Vista...Ubuntu...XP... etc.

Windows Vista Firewalls - What's good?
*rings doorbell* Common sense, are you there?...*leaves after a few minutes*... Trusting your computer's safety to windows firewall is like jumping out of a plane without a parachute...It's not going to end well. Windows is the 5th lowest on the matousec tests. It's about the same on every review. I wouldn't say it's good for anything, except taking up hard drive space. Common sense is your best protection anyway. I use Comodo for firewall on my xp partition, panda firewall on my other computers.

New Mouse
I've got a Saitek GM3200 (laser). Works great and only cost me 30 euros. It also has 5 remove-able weights, dpi settings.. etc. Unfortuantly, i think they've stopped selling it (bought mine in february this year). Before spending the money, i'd try getting hold of some measures of the mouse, so it's not too small or too high etc for your hand.
