  1. I would disagree. From my anecdotal experience in the game training on various worlds and at various spots, meeting lots of people, and discussions on various sites, the experience rates are deemed to be a problem. Most people find it to be horribly slow and tedious. I haven't heard much complaining about the training method, indeed, myself and others find the idea of switching spots to be refreshing. That's one of the few things that's good about this. Also, people don't like the fact that in addition to being so slow that the skill is not afk-friendly. That's a major problem.
  2. They're obviously lying when they say that they don't have a back-up. However, whatever the case may be, in my view, they should not do pre-EoC servers.
  3. A fun little quest, and quite enjoyable. I liked the idea of scaling the combat. I am still waiting for a huge quest though, that's the only thing that will quench my blood-lust for adventure. Saradomin tried to show some regret, but I still think he is an unscrupulous scumbag. Though, Zammy is a bigger scumbag.
  4. I think most of the complaints would subside if they just increased the XP rate. It's too laborious at the moment, it's like working in some factory. -- As for the discussion on the lore, I am happy with how it is. I don't think there needs to be any special reason as to why we can just go and harvest the energy.
  5. I very much doubt that feedback is the reason for this delay. For the most part Jagex is extremely slow and reluctant on feedback, if they do make any major tweaks based on feedback, it will be much later down the road. The 3 weeks really won't do much if anything at all. I mean, it was like a whole year later when some of the most basic things (resource spaces, Hex drop rate, dungeoneering slayer drops 30 second rule) were changed about dungeoneering, and that was after much requesting on the forums and elsewhere. From my understanding, most people don't really care about the lower levels. They try to dart past them, and then that's it. It's not really something that's revised or something I see suggestions about often. Forcing us through this seems to be a waste of time and counterproductive.
  6. Only for a very small minority of players. Most players are not in the Comp Cape game. Even myself, I have had my Max Cape for 6 months and have vowed never to attempt to for the Comp Cape. I may succumb some day, but not today.
  7. Of course. If you make things boring and tedious, then... surprise, people won't want to do them! 26 skills later and they still haven't learned anything on that topic.
  8. Legitimacy of player "achievements" vs profits. I'm honestly surprised they didn't choose the second. Oh, but they have chosen the profitable way. You see, if they made it spinnable right away, the hardcore player base (the top 1000 or whatever) would complain and be discouraged. This way, by prolonging the spins and the bonus, they can have their little parade about who made it first to 99 'legit' (as if anyone cares), and then the next big charade can start about who will be the first to 200M, and then the spins will be available. By that point, the top players will be too hooked in to resist the temptation, and 200M is such a hard goal, that spins will seem even more favorable, and Jagex will make plenty of money.
  9. That has absolutely no relevance to the point he was trying to make. The race is irrelevant in the long run, something that will last for less than 3 weeks. That's separate from his opinion on the skill entirely. The SoF will be available for the long run, and it's a fair bet to assume that within the coming months, divination xp will be obtainable from it. The "race" will be a flash in the pan and the high scores, which are being played up by hyping the race along with the integrity of them, will soon be influenced by bonus exp be it SoF lamps or hoarded pendants...or tears, or troll invasion, or JoT whatever. For a skill that has such low rates (not a bad thing) then any bonus exp will be pretty influential. And anyway, it's far more valid a point to make than arguing opinions. Kimberly has grasped the matter perfectly and spared me the need to explain myself in great detail. As for the skill, my current feeling is negative (because of how slow it is), but I expect it will change as I progress. As for why I am doing it? I am doing for the same reason I and everyone else in the game (well, almost everyone) do this sort of stuff, for the rewards, not because we like grinding as if we were zombies for hours on end. That's not really relevant to my broader point, though: The question, which I will pose again, is this: why is the rest of the player base being forbidden to use bonus experience when we don't care at all about who is going to be the first player to 99 Divination. It has absolutely no meaning to me or most players; we are not part of that competition, so why are we being forced for the next 3 weeks or whatever, to do this, just to placate a bunch of people, an extremely small minority, who have misplaced priorities?
  10. Total nonsense. The 'legitimacy' was already undermined for all other skills when they decided to load the wheel with spins, and hand out bonus weekends like they were nothing. I have never bought any spins and I never will, and I couldn't care any less about some phony concept of 'legitimacy'. I simply want to get this done with fast. I don't care if the zombies who occupy the top of the highscores decide they all want to buy spins and get it instantly, it does not affect me in any way. Unless you're a contender for the first person to 99 Divination, you shouldn't care about such things.
  11. So I have returned after a several month hiatus to check out all hoo-hah about the new skill. At first I did it some, didn't feel too enthralled or excited so I left and returned later that night. Preliminary thoughts: a completely tedious, boring, and slow skill, no doubt purposely designed to torture us with Skinner box mechanics. It of course has the orange chronicles which forces you to compete with everyone around so that when you're bored stiff you will have minor incentive to stay awake. Same goes with the social aspect of, forcing a ton of people into one place competing for the occasional enriched wisps and everything else. I will see it through, but seems ultimately lame. The only interesting things are the rewards, and the uniformity of it, at least it isn't like other gathering skills such as mining or woodcutting where you have to wait, it seems each tick between harvesting is uniform. Aside from that this skill is simply the tired old "How can we absolutely bore the hell out of our player base?" To which the answer is to make extremely slow and tedious things and force us to do them for very long times. Aside from that, why are we not allowed to use bonus experience on new skills? (I am aware that they do this for all new skills) Because apparently that would give a so-called 'unfair' advantage to the people in the mindless race to be number 1. The only problem being the one people interested in seriously racing to the top are something like 500 people who are on top of the highscores who have deranged priorities, and thus have decided to waste all their time on this. Well, if they want to do that, sure, they can. But why is everyone else being held hostage for the senseless hobbies of a few people? Let us use our bonus experience, damnit.
  12. I have a laptop that I bought only a few months ago that is all up to date (or should be anyways) and what not, and can handle full-screen. I prefer to play on fixed and on minimum (or low) detail, and I have always preferred it so.
  13. I decided to try it out today (I have been on a lengthy hiatus from RS, logging only for my spins), and the only thing I have to say is that the new fixed screen is totally confusing and hideous. I guess I will figure it out later.
  14. You're an idealist. Most of the people playing RS, particularly top players, did not become top players because of any special talents. I say this as someone who has a Maxed account. Runecape really is easy. Now there are a few people that genuinely are talented in RS and they used such talents to climb the ladders (Zarfot is a great example, with his preponderant efficiency and his understanding of investing, and mousekeys) -- however, most players, including top players, really aren't there because of talent. Also, starting a business, particularly in this economy, is no easy feat. For every success story that you hear, there are several more who failed that you didn't hear about. Furthermore, starting a business actually has a real risk, real time and effort commitment, and a real monetary commitment and real consequences. That's nothing like RS. I once lost 2B on RS. And it had taken me a long time time to get that money. Guess what happened? I quit, took a year long break from RS to enjoy real life, and upon my return I didn't miss a step -- I was able to max out anyways (despite some buyable skills left), and pretty soon I had every item I wanted once more. Now, that whole affair seems like some midnight summer's dream, nothing more. That's not what happens in real life when you fail.
  15. Because real life is not anywhere near as easy or straightforward as Runescape. Runescape is about reading easy-to-access and free guides and then repeating some monotonous action. Even Staking, is grinding (the most common strategy, the Martingale, is at least), you read a guide, and then you master ping and stuff and you just hope for good luck. That's all there is to it. Real life is far more complex.
  16. It's been that way for months. You're a little bit late to the party. There are plenty of guides out for Ports, and most of the problematic questions have been answered already here and elsewhere. There isn't much else to do.
  17. There are people who will ask you for all sorts of things. That doesn't mean they are skillful or hard. This game still has new players and newbs, you know. I still get people pm'ing me about Cook's Assistant, but that doesn't mean it's a particularly hard thing to do. That's quite true. Staking is far more risky than merching.
  18. Merching hasn't required intelligence or skill of any sort ever since Zarfot published the definitive guide on it years ago. Before Zarfot, it was not widely known, and so it took intelligence and some skill. That was years ago though. Zarfot has published all the tips and tricks on how to merchant with ease, provided you're literate enough to read his guide (not exactly a difficult feat). Since that time, everyone has known about it, and there are hundreds of clans that you can join that will teach you everything, and they even have their own little guides. So no, merchanting is not some skillful activity.
  19. The only positive development to have come out of this story is that at the very least these people were actually botting and not torturing themselves for ridiculous 'achievements' in an imaginary world at the expense of their health and real lives. My sympathies are with them for finally having realized that they were wasting their time. I'm glad that some of them were able to RWT and get as much money out of their addictions as they could. I hope they can all find some fulfillment and lead productive lives outside of RS.
  20. Not quite. While I have disagreed with Ginger, his argument is predicated on a rather simple and logical point: the historical experiences of gays and straights have been different. You can't just ignore all of that and declare "well, we're all just equal offenders now!" So, no, going to special lengths to spare the feelings (on homosexual jokes) of a gay person would not be discrimination.
  21. Words have different meanings in different contexts. I do not think a harmless joke made in private between friends is harmful to, or discriminates against, the interests of gay people. If we're talking in general, that is. If you're talking about the friend's chat screenshot, I'd concede on that, as it is a large community with many people moving in and out of the chat.
  22. I disagree with regards to it being discriminatory. How I'd conduct myself would be tailored to the current demographic and dynamics of the group. If those dynamics changed, then so would one's behavior. If we had a group without any gays, and someone decided to make such jokes, there'd be no one to be offended. If a gay person entered the group, then such behavior would cease and new boundaries would be established.
  23. No, the point is that I would only make such jokes in a private place where I knew all the parties involved and where I knew all the parties were alright with such crass humor. If some stranger, Joe, decides to impose himself into an area where he was not invited, then that's his fault, not mine. It's the same principle as keeping a diary where one airs one's thought on various people, only for some of those people to snoop around, read the diary and be upset? Do they have a right to be upset with me? I think not. Irish was also mentioned. In any case, yes, sometimes people use such language. People use a lot of crass language, sometimes it happens to be that term. Also, context matters. In most humorous contexts (unlike that one), it's usually clear that people are joking and that it's not some congregation of raving homophobes. I would not personally do so in a public chat or a large/open friend's chat. Edited.
  24. It depends how it's framed. If it's transparently framed as part of a joke and all the parties involved are aware of this and alright with it, then no harm no foul. It depends. Who is this Joe? Is he a random stranger? If so, then he shouldn't be in my chat. If he's a friend whom I know to be gay, that'd be a consideration before I started making such jokes, yes.
  25. Meaning we can swear in our PMs again? If so, is there any J Mod confirmation? Or am I misunderstanding your post?
