Eisenhower warned us of the military industrial complex. Now we're paying the price--literally. Do we really need military bases in over 150 countries? Do we need to be participating in two wars? My answer is probably pretty obvious. The U.S. needs a large military if it wants to remain a super power, but stretching the country thin with exuberant military spending is not going to help us in the long run. We need to be able to do more with less.

Or a religious debate. They're interchangeable.

For graduation parties around here, it's typical to bring a card with a small amount of money in it. If you aren't very close with the person graduating, $10 should do fine; more the better you know them. I've heard that's not the custom everywhere, though. I got around $1,600 from my graduation party in small gifts of money and it really helped for college expenses.

I proudly wore my Obama tee today. And no, I don't like Obama. I wear it to watch people's reactions--my roommate got it for $5 from a street vendor when the swim team went to Hawaii over Christmas break.

I agree with a lot of your points, Das, but I don't think all of us treat online friends the same way you do. Out of all the online communities and clans I've been a part of, there are only four or five people I have had contact with outside of those games via MSN, Facebook, Skype, etc. and they were all CoD: Finest Hour clanmates (PS2 online baby). I don't typically make lasting relationships with people online that extend into real-life. I don't know why this is, I just typically don't and I don't think I'm alone in doing this either. I guess my point here is that, for me, friendships made in-game are codependent on my actively playing RuneScape.

I used to be a big mainstream hater, but I've since cooled off. I don't watch television and I don't listen to the radio (unless it's NPR :-P). Eliminating those outlets of mainstream culture from my life has been the best thing I've ever done. I find all my entertainment independently via the internet and ignore the rest.

The best advice I can give about attending any sort of university is don't go there unless you are 100% sure you want to and are willing to spend thousands of dollars getting your education. Other than that, talk to advisers at the universities or at your school. They are there to help and will most likely know a whole lot more than anyone here, especially with the specificity of your questions.

Anyways, with most of the campus gone home for Easter, it's just me and a handful of international students hanging out at the library for the weekend.
