Is anyone else just completely disappointed with everyone?
Range_This11 replied to IHasChicken's topic in General Discussion
Once, long ago, I enjoyed nit-picking the Times from afar. I'm glad I joined, seeing what goes on behind the scenes is more eye-opening than you'd think. -
So, so, so, so good. I want this to be the new Volta stuff.

I thought he looked a bit skinny in the GIF.

[spoiler=Soma quote] I think you might have hit the nail on the head here. A lot of people on TIF, myself included, are doing bigger and better things with their lives which don't invlove Runescape to the extent we used to play it. We're getting older and many of us have serious college educations to finish up--some of the older members have passed this phase and have been vaulted straight into a stressful workplace. That is not to say that people who choose to play Runescape more (or less) than I are idiots or are wasting their time or that we should play more to be "in-touch" with the players who choose to play at a highly efficient level. Everyone chooses to play Runescape in their own way. As simplistic as that statement may be, I think a lot of people have forgotten that on both sides of the aisle. I can see how the efficiency camp (god, I absolutely hate calling them that) feels they were wronged but I can also sympathize with the Admins and Moderators as well. In times of crisis, decisions need to be made immediately and it's easy for mistakes to be made--hindsight is not 20/20, but it's easy to point out where the mistakes were. I'm on board with your ideas of collaboration, Soma. The guides on the main site were extremely useful in their heyday, but a lot of them are out-dated. This isn't a reflection of the quality of the staff, but rather that the way in which Runescape is played is so rapidly changing that it is easy for a site like Tip.It to fall behind. Thank god for the AoW and its guides, I know I've used them many, many times. More to the point, I believe the efficiency camp and their intimate knowledge of this game needs to be a part of Tip.It if it wants to be a cutting edge resource for Runescapers. If it wants to remain focused on the community aspects that have been here for years and will most likely remain for quite awhile, then the banning of several members and depature of their associates will not be seen as that great of a loss. Personally, I'd like to see to see both sides come to their senses and work together to make this place better, but I was born of hippie parents and there's a big part of me that loves to see people getting along :shades: -

I think this is a really good idea. -
read above Yeah I see that now, I guess I just don't understand you guys. Is what you're doing for the greater good? Or is it just to leave this place with a scorched earth policy?
-
I'm not trying to say "Well, then leave" because frankly I don't think anyone should and I would hate to see anyone go, but I don't understand what point you're trying to prove by staying if you're already adamantly set on leaving?

There's been a lot of trying to cooperate. They brick walled and then banned a few of the people seeking compromise. That's not something they could have expected not to blow up at them. I don't pretend to know anything about people being banned or any of the PRIVATE conversations that went on regarding that, but I know damn well it's not that simple and I think you do too. I've had copypastes of pretty much everything said, so I daresay I understand the situation better than you. Needless to say, the admins were ridiculously uncooperative. It takes two to tango and I doubt you or any others in question are innocent just as much as I doubt the admins and moderators made unbiased decisions. Regardless, we've gotta put all that garbage behind us and move forward as community or this place will never be the same.

Like I said in the Efficiency Troll thread, I don't think TIF is a police state or totalitarian nor do I think that the Mods or Admins are infallible. I really can't believe the community is dividing on this issue. People are taking sides and it's turning into Us and Them which will do nothing but cause bad things for this site and the people that enjoy it here, myself included. Both sides are bickering like god damn children. Grow up and act like adults.

There was no drift, I can assure you. While using transitions like "Another reason x affects y is..." may help readers who have trouble comprehending the main argument and remembering that argument as they read the article (maybe that includes you?), those same transitions make the writer sound like a high-schooler and are extremely cliche. Croce wrote the article in an essay style rather than the editorial format we're used to seeing. Maybe that's why some people are having such a hard time following it. Edit: I don't know where you're getting this from, because it's not true. Racheya is the only panel member that could come anywhere near being "pro-Jagex", but I think she's more optimistic than she is pro-Jagex. I know I've openly opposed Jagex before, most recently with the absolutely horrid Smithing update. The writers write what they want to--there is definitely not a pro-Jagex consensus among the panel members. Usually, the Jagex-bashing is done in General Discussion and, like I said earlier in this thread, we try not to recapitulate topics that have already been exhausted. There is a time and place for all kinds of discussion, but I don't think it would be a good decision for the Times to turn into a negative Jagex-bashing monster week after week.

I think H&A should be a place for all opinions to be expressed; where the OP chooses which method fits him or her best. I don't know why people see the need to force their method on someone else. H&A shouldn't be for extended debate--offer your opinion and leave it at that.
-
I don't think it's so much what you're saying but how you're saying it (the figurative "you", of course). As long as both sides keep it civil and respect the other side's views, there shouldn't be a problem. If the administration censors the efficiency crowd because they're efficient, they're making a huge mistake, but I highly doubt it will be like you are implying.

That girl is kind of...scary looking to me. And Macaulay Culkin was always a freakish ghoul, he was just a kid so it was okay. -

That's pretty awesome, but they got the pronunciation of Uranus wrong.

The new hiscores layout is really bad. I liked how the old list could be viewed without scrolling. It was compact and worked great. I don't see the need to change it, not everything needs to look "streamlined". -

Nice Botox. -
People read the Times articles for an author's perspective and interpretation of a topic and they can come to the forums to read the community's general perspective. I don't think it's the writers' responsibility to formulate and articulate what the community collectively believes. Articles are supposed to be opinionated (to an extent) and they are supposed to dredge discussion, not recapitulate what has already been said for the past week in General Discussion
-
I disagree with that completely. Keep in mind we're also *trying* not to re-hash what has been said over and over and over again in General Discussion topics--typically where the extremely negative criticisms of Jagex occur.
-
That is a mighty deep V, Sam.

Link Here's a link to the FBI's Vault: Vault This is pretty interesting, they've got stuff in there on just about anything...even Biggie's death. Use the categories on the right hand side to browse different topics, the stuff on UFOs is under "Unexplained Phenomenon".

I used to think religion was a big deal, but it isn't really unless you make it one. The most fun I've had in a relationship was with a girl who was very much a Christian (Frank Zappa's Catholic Girls comes to mind...only kidding) and one of the most stressful ones was with someone who was very much similar to me in views--I don't believe in any sort of religion. I guess I'm not too picky, as long as she's attractive (pretty subjective, I know), in shape, and has a brain in her head I'll at least give her a chance.

Yeah, this guy joined the forums JUST to piss you off by creating this thread. What are you accomplishing by ripping his head off? Report the thread and move on.
