The only catch is that defense is very important at waterfiends, something which the obby necklace really isn't good at providing since the maul is a 2H weapon. Actually...if the TzHaar-Ket-Em is a one handed weapon (it has crush) then I suppose it's possible that using it would be practical. I'd have to know if it were 1H or 2H though. the mace is 1h obviously. And i use it there and the bunyip+scrolls heal me enough. Maul fails there big time btw.

Or you could bring a halberd. it depends if you want to range all the way or not. A karils xbow isn't really needed either, just use a rune cbow and mith bolts.

Just asking, how well would void work here? A range helm , switching to a melee helm for supreme. You'd obviously get owned with the low def&prayer of void, but is the extra damage worth it?

The only way to level slayer is to use a weapon to kill stuff. It is definately a combat skill in that view. The uses of slayer make it look like a combat skill too. The only half exception would be using slayer to earn the ability to make broad bolts/arrows(fletching). The other rewards is being able to kill stuff that someone with a lower slayer level can't. It's definately a combat skill to me.
