  1. Speedpaint of an orange.
  2. Pixel cloud. [ click for step by step ] Quick orange painting.
  3. Here's a quick stepper on pixeling a cloud from life references. Feel free to post your own attempts here, as well as any comments or criticism. :)
  4. I just entered StephenT0's contest. So far I've only really started on the clouds, and that still has a lot of work to go. Here is one of the clouds. 15 colours total, only pencil tool. Ignore the blue background for now. Steps: [ Pixeling a Cloud Step-by-Step ] Saturday, Feb 04 I've started a bit on the wall & mug. Still need to do the glass for the mug.. any tips? Trying not to draw too much attention to this part of the sig, I just want to keep it subtle and minimal. Sunday, Feb 05 The w.i.p. Older Versions [ link ]
  5. It's nice, but it looks just like all your other works. Your style was original at first, but now you're repeating it so often that it's just starting to look bland. :|
  6. Creativity is very important in art. :) And you shouldn't restrict yourself to Runescape, it will only limit your ability.. Here are some ideas you should look into a bit more: - Perspective (esp. foreshortening) - Linework (esp. cleaning and, later, softening) - Anatomy & The Human Figure - Sprite art skills - etc. IMO it would be better to at least look over the basic concepts before jumping right into a full-scale battle scene that will just turn out messy in all directions.
  7. I've liked to doodle and draw since I was young, but it wasn't anything impressive. A few years ago, I joined a RS fansite (Runescape Central) and started with basic computer graphics there. After years of crap, I finally started experimenting with new things. Last summer I really started learning to draw, and started working with my tablet a lot more. I've also been trying to improve my modeling/animation and web design skills. Next week I'll be trying to learn to use acrylics and watercolours for the first time... hehe. Due to my stupidity, I'm still a beginner to all types of art and have only recently gotten interested in the more serious side of it (as opposed to filter sigs, which isn't serious, and certainly isn't very artistic!). :)
  8. Alright, cool then! :) Keiphus pretty much summed up dithering. Here is a good basic tutorial on how it's usually done in sprite/pixel art. :) http://spriteart.com/tutorials/01_dither.html
  9. Erm.. just because he writes a step-by-step doesn't mean you can rip it for your avatar. :? Unless terley made it for you... Fantastic stuff terley, GREAT detail! Very helpful.
  10. Lmao. Yep. :) Too bad the apple isn't real, it would have looked a lot better. :x The chair in the back is getting cut off by the table, making it look like a square. The table is actually dark brown, but the light from the windows is making it look really reflective. Thanks for the comments, everyone. :)
  11. Testing composition.
  12. Great stuff. the first looks really soft! :)
  13. Fantastic detail and great work on the linework. The lighting/shading seems a little weird, almost reminds me of gradient-style in some areas. Other than that, I'd suggest slightly highlighting the left side of the face too, and don't forget to add more detail for the final! Great job, keep workin' on it!!
  14. Yes, that is a fantastic program for paintings. Well, it's your own choice, the program used to digipaint is really just as subjective as the techniques involved. For one thing, though, Elements is just a limited version of Photoshop CS. If you had to choose between the two, CS is definitely the better choice. As for Corel, if you're talking about Photopaint then don't bother with it, but if you've got Corep Painter, it's well worth a try. It's right up there with Photoshop, if not better for digital paintings and illustrations. What tablet did you get? Intuos? Graphire? Does this offer the nifty networked canvas feature aswell?
  15. No, it's a pretty expensive buy actually. You can get something like OpenCanvas or even Photoshop Elements, though, which are both good. OpenCanvas is supposedly free.. tttia might know where to get it free, all I've been able to find is a 30-day trial. :?:
  16. Thanks. I was inspired by this picture, but as you can see I only really used it as a reference for colours. Hah that's awesome! Really great job. If you go over the time limit, don't worry about it. It's just there as a guideline. :) Wicked!.. Great detail with dithering there, looks pro.
  17. Thanks! I might start getting back into sigs sometime soon. :) I guess we'll see. The peach? If you mean the pear in my avatar, that was painted in PS using brush tools and custom/default brushes. It took a bit longer, too. You can find more details on that piece HERE.
  18. As the others have said, keep in mind that shading with true "pixels" must be done with the pencil tool, completely pixel by pixel. Now, onto that question. Rendering/shading is very subjective, there isn't a "best" technique. But, personally, here is how I render in Photoshop: 1. Block BASIC colours, hard round ~100% opacity and 60-90% flow. This includes highlights, midtones, shadows, and everything else. 2. Use the ALT key to choose a colour. Paint with 20-50% opacity (use number keys for quick switching) and keep on using the ALT key to lay down more colours and intensities. I do this until I find I've defined my object enough through shadows & highlights, giving it a "3D" feel. 4. Repeat step two with very soft brushes and lower opacities, zoom in to make sure you don't ruin the shape. Just smooth out the rough transitions. 5. Add details, more colours, whatever..
  19. Here's a tree thing I quickly whipped up (heh.. trees are fun). Mouse only 45 minute "pixelpainting". 15 colours in the tree, 49 including the ground. Used a larger pencil tool for the shadows. Didn't use opacities, tried to follow "pixel rules". EDIT: Slightly fixed contrast. Feel free to post your own speed pixels or C/C. :) Try to keep it under an hour!
  20. Let's bring this back! :) Nice one tttia, cool textures. Here's a tree thing I quickly whipped up (heh.. trees are fun). Mouse only 45 minute speed pixeling. 15 colours in the tree, 49 with the ground. used a larger pencil tool for the shadows. didn't use opacities, tried to follow "pixel rules".
  21. My first animation in max. I don't know how to fix that weird smoothing problem with the animation, any ideas? http://davedes.250free.com/index.html I'll try and skin it soon :) It's based on the bow in Narnia, by the way.
  22. very cute. the black outline kinda kills it a little bit imo, maybe too overpowering? I dunno.. great wally :)
  23. Heh that hair looks funny -- kinda looks like he's sticking his sword into an electrical socket or something. The head looks a bit narrow compared to the rest of the body, but still, fantastic work so far! It looks fantastic.
  24. Heh, I find the hard thing about a tripod is carrying it around in public places. Lots of odd looks, and it's just worse when I actually start to set it up.
  25. Great photos! Especially the first. Only issues I'm seeing are minor problems with colour & contrast, but that could be changed easily. Keep it up!
