Asking For A LIttle Favor (Pixelers)
Looks good. One thing I'd suggest, is that you slant the middle area so that it's on the same angle as the bottom-right half of the shield (aswell as the sand-turner thing). And for that matter, I think it would also look nicer if you adjusted the 'diagonal scaline' kind of pattern to also fit along the same angle. Dunno whats going on with the sword shading, either.. looks like candy. But yea, good start. Unfortunately, i'm not the one to be adding text.. you can always give it your own shot though, everyone's gotta start somewhere. :)

Just me or are ppl plain lazy...
Unless I'm mistaken, posting large images in a thumbnail (thus smaller filesize) will usually eat away less site bandwidth to tip.it, not to mention a lot of people don't have internets that can handle getting plowed with massive image sizes. Sooo... not only are people getting lazy these days, but they're becoming extremely generous too! OMG WHAT'S THIS WORLD COMING TO???!?!!!111!!!! WE'RE ALL DOOMED!!!!1!111!!!!!!!!!! PS: Nad, do you mean hypocritical? :?

best looking websites?
A design can be defined as "a decorative or artistic work". Furthermore, the subject of this topic is "Best looking websites". And yes, I want to look at a website with an impressive design, even if it was made in one program opposed to another. :)

 I didn't know what the hell was going on in the pic. Can't understand a thing with graphics like that. :x

Alibre Design
Whats this program called? From what I'm hearing, it sounds like another Zbrush, which is an AMAZING mix between 3D and digital painting, and can give you some really spectacular results.

What do you consider to be pixel art?
Well, anything aliased (or manually anti-aliased) that is created pixel-by-pixel (to an extent, at least), without the aid of filters or transparencies, is what I consider pixel art. I use layer masks, selection tools, and adjustment layers to help create some of my pixels, which may break 'the rules'. I also use a tablet, though I'm sure that's allowed.

Photoshop, actually. As i said, the pixel part is quite a wip and I still need to add all that dithered shading, AA, SelOutlines etc. Thanks for the critique. What's so un-mod-friendly about your own stuff? bewbz an bummies? Too bad if it is, i doubt they'd really appreciate "artistic nudity" being posted here.

New Drawing Lessons -------New Section and updates
Alright, I'm on a diff comp (with adobe reader, I guess my other one didn't have it) and it seems to look a lot more organized. The only problem now is that Week1-excercise 3 doesn't appear on its own page. Here are my honest opinions on the lessons, though. You say you'll be teaching this in a class? Will it be adults, teens, children, or what? The first part, for example, probably wouldn't be appropriate for teens, they'd probably find it silly or unnecessary. Even I would be reluctant to do this, and I'm a lot more keen at drawing than the average teen. An idea of how you could create this lesson more interesting (I'm sure even some adults would find this an unnecessary step for drawing) would be to remove the picture of an apple and replace it with an actual apple. Of course, depending on the size of the class, you may not be able to hand out an apple to every one of them. I also don't think blending should be something you're encouraging to beginners like this. As a beginner, I'm finding it extremely difficult to get good shading through blending. Instead of blending, I use the pencil to imitate a blended effect (soft strokes to hard strokes, sometimes swapping pencils). I'll usually only blend backgrounds (ie: out of focus) or shadows. Otherwise, especially if I use tissues, it smears & smudges my shading, and goes completely out of control. I'm sure a lot of other beginners would feel the same, especially beginners of that magnitude! I also think you should go into detail on tools; switching between pencil thickness, different positions on holding the pencil, or using sharp erasers is a big help for me. Lastly, I think it would be good to introduce more info on perspective before diving into foreshortening. Since I'm assuming you'll be teaching complete beginners, a lot of them won't have a clue about perspectives, vanishing points, etc, and may have trouble understanding about foreshortening.

Sig for myself =-)
How about a guy smashing all the homework on his desk, his hands possibly a little bloody/bruised (to show that he's been angry for quite some time). :) Or.. "Garden gnomes enraged by political decision: Pitchforks, shotguns and shovels missing from local sheds and storage rooms"

Need some suggestions/tips for my pixel sig
The man is by far the weakest part of it, IMO. Right now it looks entirely flat (like paper)... and then it's chamfered out on the side. No human should look like this. If no details, than wrinkles/folds at least. And you have to decide how tight you want the shirt to be, and how muscular the guy is. If he's buff and wearing a tight shirt, some of his muscles might be visible. If he's tubby and he's wearing a tight shirt, his belly might be sticking out. Loose shirts don't emphasize the body shape too much.. but it doesn't look like that's what you're using here. You've repeated this same "chamfer" shading all over. On the gloves, hair, even the face. The anvil (and furnace, to an extent) are nice, but it seems to fall apart at the man in the middle.

!! Isometric Wip (Updated slightly)
Why not? I've seen some good pixelers here at tip. Quite a few. It wouldn't be anything near the size of Terley's, and we'd only have a few of these stores. And... we could even set up this "challenge" so it only includes artists we've hand-chosen. Those artists who accept the challenge would first flip an e-coin to get their lot, then design their own, small, building, and possibly more. It would be wicked.. If all goes to plan, we could even give "steps" and then vote (although i'm not really fond of polls) on a winner for each step. The winner might win something special.. you never know! For example, step 1 could be "Buildings". We'd all create our houses, shacks, mansions, cubicals, whatever... step 2 could be "vehicles". We can place our tanks in our driveways, our golf courts around back, our Shagmobile speeding past the front, etc.. step 3 could be people, or flying crafts, or.. whatever else you can come up with. etc... etc..

!! Isometric Wip (Updated slightly)
Well, they are attempting to build a McDonalds in walking distance for every American, so it would only be logical to put a few in this little city. Great job terley! You've completely blown me away with this piece, awesome details and shading so far. I have an idea, but it doesn't have to be part of this city. Somebody makes a template city (everyone touches it up, putting in their own critiques/efforts to perfect it).. with numbers on the empty buildings. Then people would have a certain time limit to create their own shop, house, building, etc. based on the template building they chose. If they can't finish it in time, anyone who missed the last 'dib calling' (or anyone who has finished their original dibs) can go call dibs on any unfinished houses. This has it's downsides though... A single building that's out of place (ie: bad perspective, wrong lighting, or non-pixel alltogether) could throw off the whole piece.

Two pixel mosaics, see page two. MILD TATER NUDITY.
The purple/blue colour seems to be a little too strong, kinda chamfering his stomach a little. Otherwise, great work. He looks incredibly ugly. You're improving fast.

A random sig---not quite finish yet, but almost, c/c appr.
Nice work. only crit i can give ya right now is the glossyness of his torso, kinda makes him look a little waxy. Awesome details, great folding action on the pants, and wicked blood on that sword.

New Drawing Lessons -------New Section and updates
Here's a screenshot of the errors i'm getting. http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/3294/ohno3xf.jpg But wait, I just realized it's not opening in Acrobat (don't have on my comp) but just in the browser (possibly a XP only thing?). Is getting acrobat the only way to view it properly?

New Pixel Sig
Yea, no doubt. Or we could just talk him into making himself a sig, entirely for practicing aa, dithering, selective outlining, etc. :D

New Drawing Lessons -------New Section and updates
WOAH. very nice. I've already read some of it, but I loved the step about foreshortening! I need serious help with that :x It's too bad it's in pdf though.. it looks all messy for me. Maybe it's just my comp, but not all of the stuff seems to line up properly. Will have to test out some of the lessons tonight :) I'll get back to you soon on it. ps: free web hosting at http://www.explosive-hosting.com, if you eventually think of changing it to HTML i'd highly recommend this host over the others

princessa9, really great work you've got so far. You're a great drawer :!: Is "tranquility" holding a hair dryer? Agreed. :) ---- Here are two others, pencil this time. Fashion: [close] You know.. "to fashion an elvish blade". I have another idea, this time a little more related to the topic. :) I will try CG on this tonight. Outdoors: Ah sorry, got the idea from tttia's new sailboat pic. Never got around to finishing the nose of the boat. :| Since most of what I draw by pencil is just brainstorming for how I can later do it on the computer, I will sometimes have many different angles, distances, and details in seperate little thumbnail sketches.

New Pixel Sig
Where is the light source coming from? The cast shadows and lack of shading on the cabinet is kinda throwing me off. :? The linework seems flawed in a few places, and the faces look... silly. And the lines themselves would look better if they weren't all black (like what you almost did on the pumpkin) Cool, not your best though.

My first rs drawing
Err.. I don't think I can post a decent critique to your sig, as it may be considered somewhat negative. Please ensure that you read this: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=193440 If you're still looking for advice on how to improve, brace yourself for some slightly negative comments. :)

is vector graphics a flash only thing?
Well, any vector-based program (as opposed to raster-based) will do the trick. Illustrator is especially well known for vectors, and so is Freehand. Flash is probably one of the worst programs for creating vectors. But keep in mind, Illustrator/Freehand/etc. aren't for flash animations, or any animations for that matter. It can create the vector out of vertices and lines, but the result will almost always be a still image. And it is a nice feature, but unfortunately, vector pieces result in a completely different result than any raster pieces. and personally, i prefer the smooth airbrushed (or even pixel art) styles to the cel shaded vector styles.

First Real Person Pixel (Jimmy Page)
Not bad. Did you use a reference? I love The Cars. mm.. good songs. ever heard of Moving in Stereo? Kinda different to their regular stuff, but definitely one of my favourites from em.
