  1. Very nice bunny! :o tttia...?? What's the next topic? :( I'll post my fashion things tomorrow, although I'm not really sure if they relate to fashion at all
  2. Yea well, photoshop is a basic no brainer for top quality photo manipulations. They called it photoshop for a reason. :) If you asked what our favourite modeling, sculpting, drawing, painting, pixeling, illustrating program (etc) is, you'd get much more of a broad answer. Right now we are kinda limited, and the majority of us would most likely prefer PS over other programs. :) Kinda pointless topic if you ask me.
  3. My critiques! Kingofduke, good start. I think the hand, torsos, and faces look slightly wrong in proportions, but I can see you're still working on the heads. :) Tttia, how do you work? Do you completely draw your things out of soft brushes? Or hard strokes + blend? And do you draw at a larger size? Also, do you own photoshop? (which version?) The face doesn't look bad, I think it's the hand that should be improved. It seems to curl more than the curv of the casket, and there is no cast shadow indicating her hand isn't placed directly on it, so it's kinda confusing. Good job on textures, and I would have liked to see the red ribbons on top a little sharper. I also think their colours could be dulled a little, to help the gloomy feel. Otherwise, great textures and casket detail, nicely set up mood with the colours. Godslayer, wow that gets messy at the bottom. Although now that you explain it to me, it all seems to work. And it's a great sketch at that - great detail and awesome character drawings. Wish you'd use the brush tool instead of pencil for sketching. :P Misterxman, looks great. I've never worked with oil pastels, so I don't have much of an idea on how to critique it. :) But from what I can see, not much needs to be done apart from what Godslayer has already mentioned.
  4. On topic. Sorry, it was quicker than I expected. :( The thought is that "not all relationships work out". Not sure if I'm quite ready to publish full character drawings yet, so I'll stick to simple things. Anyways, I wanted to try and think of something more original than a man and a woman holding hands. :) Off-topic sketch I drew today. Some sort of futuristic police vehicle.
  5. So wait, are the sketches having to follow the topic (couples??) or can they be any speed stuff?
  6. Awesome! I never knew we had one of these threads!!!!!!!!!! So the topic today is Couples?? :x *gets to work*
  7. Design skills? Many of these basic HTML sites lack a nice design, but are coded wonderfully. I don't see how those sites could be a good demonstration of design skills, even if they are written and coded with extreme talent... True, but nowadays it's being used to create full websites, and the results can often be a lot more visually stunning than any HTML/CSS/Javascript site. Don't forget that a flash design consists of a lot more than just AS (which is still extremely difficult, a lot harder to follow than HTML or even CSS). Not only is a good amount of graphic skills also needed for good flash websites, but to achieve results like that you need to be a great animator, both in the 2D and 3D fields. And he put in more html/css/js effort than you'd expect. He's got plenty of popups, that open in non-flash windows, which he had to manually design, slice, and code by hand.
  8. Lazy way out? You'd need to not only learn a completely new coding language, but have to spend days making the actual animations and interactivity for the site. THEN you'd have to do the HTML, css, java, etc. coding to complete the site. But yea, once the animation intro is done, I don't really enjoy browsing flash sites. If 2Advanced just had a flash intro, and then proceeded to a simple HTML/PHP/etc. page, it would be perfect. Right now it feels like I'm looking at a single image, with text all over it. One of my favourites (well, second now that I've seen 2advanced :P) is http://conceptart.org Clean and to the point. :)
  9. Sometimes it does that (not always though, for whatever reason)... But you can find the URL (and then go File > Set as Background) in the source. http://ic1.deviantart.com/fs7/i/2005/21 ... Nadril.png Not sure if you want me saying this Nadril, I think the whole blank thing dA installed is meant for people who may try to steal the image.
  10. Wickedly cool. The entire right side is beautiful. Awesome atmosphere.
  11. Well, according to jark, there were only two originals. http://comments.deviantart.com/5/6061173/156072009 You can find that reply in the journal GSW linked to. EDIT: I agree with you partly Keiphus, unfortunately this "boycott" sort of thing's not going to work too well. But still, it's definitely going to go down in dA history, and sounds like it will have to make some sort of impact. I'm happy to help in this (comparably weak) effort to bring back the community, even if it doesn't make any impact on the current site leaders (I'm sure they won't care). :)
  12. He was one of the original co-founders (only 2 I believe?) of dA. He coded the site aswell, or at least the original versions. Plus, he was a great administrator and an all around nice guy.
  13. Here's something else you should check out. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21139764/ Read the comment. I'm going to try and submit something yellow on that day. Read `onestars edit in his new journal. Also; http://www.bloodyn.dyndns.org/dev/
  14. LOL! Thats just like my doodles at school. AWESOME flash, thats some true dedication!
  15. Really? So I shouldn't even be using a reference? Personally, I find tracing to be bad and disrespectful thing to do, but if its for practice reasons, and used correctly (never published on the net, of course!) it can be very helpful to you. But only to a certain extent (not a very large extent, either), and then you have to let your own skill take you the rest of the way.
  16. Very nice, keiphus :) The clouds were a little distracting from the actual monitor, i'd have liked it if there was more focus on the product. You should definitely slow those clouds down a tad.
  17. By publishing 'ripped' artwork on the net and passing it off as "yours" without giving any credit whatsoever to the original author(s), you are breaking copyright laws. -- ON TOPIC: Filter piles (or anything with an obvious excess of filters) are bad! The background would look a lot better if it wasn't so monotone in colour and depth. Tweaking contrast, and fiddling with multiple color balance layers would be a good start! -- Even if it didn't break any laws directly, the concept would have still been "stolen" from Nike. Not to mention, it's a shameful thing to do, even if it is legal. Also note, publishing ripped artwork over the net and making your personal t-shirt with a stolen logo are two very different matters.
  18. I'd like to learn how to create nice skies, good atmopsheres, or nice terrain textures. I'm hoping to get into Matte Paintings, and I'm guessing terragen may help. :D So I've gotta learn sooner or later.
  19. Its weak. Try doing more than tori, and also taking it a step further and actually editing it in PS. No definite focal point, no post editing, boring shapes, extremely unoriginal...
  20. The crashing waves are superb. Perspective and anatomy are off. The cliff looks a bit simple... not really like a cliff, but more of a square of grass.
  21. yeah i just opened each up in different windows and looked back and forth realy fast. ah well, still looks nice... Paste them both into the same window, and align them at the correct spot, then hide/unhide the top one... You'll see what I mean when I say obviously traced. :(
  22. :( I thought he was better a better artist than this. Using it as a reference is fine, but after a quick check in PS, there is no doubt that this is an obvious trace. Almost everything lines up exactly with the picture. Tracing is just bad, whether or not you own the rights to the photo.
  23. Its by Phalanxe. Lemme go look for final.. EDIT: He's really talented.
  24. 1. Define a light source. All the main highlights will be coming from this light source. 2. Start making the highlights/speculars. The 'specular' varies between materials, so make sure you've got it right. Here are some different armors, with different speculars. Metal: Leather: Cloth: [ fullsize images ] 3. Draw the brightest highlight, and then go from there, drawing darker and darker shades until you reach the base. Then do the same for shadows. If you want, use dithering to save colours, and try to avoid anything that looks like gradient-style or pillow-style shading. And some links you'd probably find helpful... pixel tutorial - http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/index.html human anatomy - http://www.deviantart.com/view/15014442/
  25. We aren't geeks either, but most of us are smart (or nice) enough not to rip other artists pieces due to the fact that it's illegal in most countries. Not only that, but it makes a fool out of yourself infront of the rest of us. If you want to test your sig, there is a sticky at the top of the page for it. Don't ask for a rate on a sig you didn't create. Its a great drawing though, I wish I knew who made it.
