  1. I'll assume you're using the newer term "render", as "stolen piece of artwork that is often covering abstract backgrounds in sigs". So anyways, here's a short little tutorial I took the time to write! 1. Rip a good piece of art (drawing/3d) off of google or one of those render sites. 2. Copy and paste it ontop of your amazing background, and resize it so that it takes up 90% of it. 3. Add some text, taking up the last 10% of your own artwork. 4. Done! Or, if you mean 3D modeling, then you can find some great tutorials in some of these links: http://www.3dluvr.com/ http://www.3dtotal.com/ http://www.3dkingdom.org/ http://www.3dm-mc.com/ http://fs5.deviantart.com/f/2004/298/5/ ... elist.html (an old list I made, down at the bottom should be a few program-specific 3D tutorials, mostly abstracts)
  2. Haha, very nice! Somebody is obviously too keen about runescape!!
  3. You won't be able to do it in Photoshop (possibly newer versions, probably not elements) but in Flash all you need to do is make a white shape with feathered edges, like in your sig, and set the text as a mask. Start a motion tween with the white shape on the left, then end it with the white shape on the right. When its tweened together... it should go quickly from left to right, giving it a flash effect. Ok well I wasn't very specific but its sometimes nice to learn something on your own with programs ;) If not.... Go look about google. ;) A little bit of effort never hurt anyone. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=mot ... h+mx&meta= http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe= ... h+mx&meta=
  4. I see your point, but if you have no talent when it comes to art and absolutely hate it, there should really be no reason for you to be doing it. With no talent or no practice, and a bad feeling towards it, you won't be able to make much money (if any) from being an artist. Not to mention the fact that you won't be having any fun as it, and thats one of the main reasons people become artists. Your cousin, on the other hand, has either got to be reasonably smart when it comes to number crunching, or has taken the proper practices to get into accounting. I'm stumped as to why he took the courses on accounting in the first place, if you say he hates it so much. :| Assuming I read you correctly - In Kingofduke's case, he isn't looking to earn a living, instead he is looking at art as a hobby (making a runescape profit on the side). From his lack of interest, it doesn't look like he would want to go to the proper extents to be able to earn a living from being an artist (art school / etc.) Your cousin uses his job - accounting - as a way to earn himself a living. This isn't a hobby for him, and the only reason he continues is for the payments. Hope that clears it up. Art as a hobby is much different from art as a job, but in both you'll need a lot of interest, some talent, and the proper practices to get you anywhere. If you lack all of these and don't see yourself having any future in art, there is no point in getting into it.

Ah well there are a few problems to it. Namely the lack of detail, and rigid uniformity. If you don't have a backdrop, you'll need some pretty stunning characters (or some sort of a stunning foreground) to make up for the lack of the background. The shading looks gradient-style, and the gloves & boots don't look shaded. The piece needs more details; wrinkles, folds, irregularities, wood grain, rips, grips, glows, foes etc. Also, you should check out some Human Anatomy tutorials, the person you've drawn has some improper proportions. And when its in such plain view like that, you should really try to make it look as perfect as you can. human anatomy - http://www.deviantart.com/view/15014442/ proper shading and pixel techniques - http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/index.html -- PS: Yea I know you've already seen my opinions in the rv psmg, but I thought I should post here aswell just incase anyone else finds it helpful.
  6. Yes, its got a suprising amount of detail and some nice shading for a first try. Very good job... The clouds look brushed (no brushings in pixels :P) and it looks like it would be hard to climb the massive "boob" to get into the castle. The sword blends in a little too much with the background, as well.. Anyways, I'd suggest reading some pixel tutorials. There are some strict "rules" to pixeling, as well as some optional things that would make your stuff look much nicer, and I'd suggest checking them out. http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/index.html http://zoggles.co.uk/asp/tutorials.asp?show=index http://spriteart.com/ Great job so far, good luck on your next pixels. :)
  7. Hmm.. I just registered. Was kinda disappointed, no offense or anything. You made it sound like its a board devoted to graphics and programming, but clearly thats very low on their list. *sigh* Hate to spoil it for anyone who was expecting to see digital paintings or traditional art, or really anything other than filter piles/grunge sigs... Since we are on the subject of good graphic/art-related sites, I think I should point out these two sites to anyone who wants to get into digital painting / sketching / 3d modeling. Probably two of the best forums out there, purely for graphics, no need to sift through filter flukes or grunge sigs in these places. ;) Beginner painters are very welcome, they give great critiques and advice there. http://conceptart.org/ http://cgtalk.com/
  8. Duh! Cute little pootatie with a big knife, in chibi form (super-deformed). Anyways, the update isn't bad but its very small. Looks like it could get busy once you complete the shading/colours. Why not space it out or make it larger?
  9. I agree with Ryan, and it would be good for that reason, but past that I don't see it happening. I wouldn't mind seeig some of the other great artists' work all in one thread... But what purpose does this serve, other than boosting the ego of the better artists on the site? I'd prefer a thread with a lot of poorly made artwork (maybe on purpose by those who know what is wrong) and the replies will all be heavy critiques on what the artist did wrong. Beginners would be able to read off of this and find out major flaws in various types of art, and improve their own skills by reading this.
  10. Was this directed to the OP or me? :| EDIT: Please, don't avoid the fact that THOUSANDS of innocent lives have been destroyed or taken away because of Bush's efforts, and although a few of these "scumbags" have been taken out, there is still plenty of terrorism going on. I'm not saying nothing should be done, but sending in the military to shoot at suspected terrorist locations (and killing hundreds of innocents while attempting to do so) is NOT the proper solution. And yes, many people have died because of horrible people living in these countries, but Bush is just adding more ontop of that.
  11. If somebody has something to say and a thread isn't locked, he should have the full right to post, assuming the post isn't against the rules. (well, not a great example since Timmiesdadda's reply was just spam.. but you know what i mean?) Now that it's here, I have just noticed it. Very nice guide Quer, although its obvious you've improved a lot since :) Are you still going to make another one? If so, I think a dithering guide (an in-depth one on where and how to use it, not just how to create the pattern) would be really helpful, or at least to me
  12. You are an idiot, you think it was Englands fault the towers were bombed? you say it like you are getting even or something. Another thing, I realise these attacks are on completely different scales but England handled it one hell of a lot better than America did. I agree, kiel. What a wagon. Its horrible that people these days can have such little respect for another one's life. :( I'm feeling sick just thinking about it, and can't begin to imagine the pain all those families must be going through. May their souls rest in peace. :( Whats worse is that Arabs/Muslims now have been stereotyped as "Crazed suicide bombers" worldwide, which is completely untrue. Only a small group of these people agree with what Al Qaeda is doing, but every other Arab/Muslim is on the same page as the rest of us. :( Yet Bush sends thousands of his men out to kill them, and thousands of innocent women and children, let alone innocent men, have died since. Even after all of Bush's efforts, terrorism is clearly still live and well in our world.
  13. Drawing, or even CG, is a hobby, which requires talent & effort, just like any sport would. If you don't enjoy art, or can't find any time for it, you shouldn't be doing it. Period. If you think you find yourself having a bit of "fun" while making some sort of artistic piece, then you should keep at it, and avoid stealing/using other people's work to complete your own. You're into art for the wrong reasons if you're just in it for runescape profit. ;)
  14. Try looking for bitmap/pixel fonts off of http://www.dafont.com/ I'm not sure what that exact font is (not visitor or photoshop small, and doesn't look like 04 series). For more 04 fonts, check their website: http://04.jp.org/ (go to extras -> bitmap fonts) They've got plenty more than what's on dafont. From a quick glance, I don't see any that are exact to the one you're looking for, just a few that are similar.
  15. The text and gray thing don't look centered. Looks pretty ugly, to be honest. Gif animations like this are hard to make and all, but they look so plain and boring. :? If you're skilled with animations, I'd suggest looking into animating sprites, or even cartoon strips (although it wouldn't look good at all, due to only 256 colours).
  16. It looks nice, but some of the materials (the gray one, to be specific) look plain. And unfortunately, it looks like a bunch of tori on a black background. *sigh* There is much more to bryce abstracts than this. Try using metaballs and a lot of booleans to get more original abstracts, avoiding these primitive shapes!
  17. I think its looking better, but there are still a few highlights which look too thin, like on the upper arms. The anatomy of the guy isn't too perfect, but I guess that can come later :) Love the cape! And it looks like a great start, don't forget to add a bit of an outline on the body too (as long as it isn't black!). Don't forget to add details on the castle, such as bricks, erosion, holes, etc.
  18. 01whitec2???? Anyways, I like it. I'm not a fan of the 3D there though, looks very basic. :( EDIT: Ohhh.. thats your name. Silly me..
  19. Who would paint a tree as the focal but cut half of it off.. :? Might wanna add some gold trim or something to the frame to help show that its a painting.
  20. Dule, your linework is a little off, and so is the shading. I'd recommend checking out some pixeling guides for both, right now the shading looks too pillow/gradient, and the lines are too thick and messy. KnightLite, you've also got a similar problem on yours. Everything looks like linear gradient shading - which is wrong! And the brown river-like thing stops at the door frame, and doesn't continue to the right for some reason. The grass is a little solid, try to vary it a bit. You won't need a lot of different colours for this, but at least 2-3, all which are notably different. Nice colours though, its cheerful.
  21. Firstly, the rooms. The decorating isn't beautiful (yellow walls, green/red carpet?) but that's alright. The major flaw in the house is how the window shows the outside, where it should actually be the room behind him. As you can see, the carpet & picture stretch to the left, which pretty much tells us that the room continues on past the wall. I'd suggest moving, or removing, the window. A rich beige/brown colour on the walls would work well with the frames, but you should try to make the frames a little more similar in colour (at least, the window & door frames). The blue thing on the back is missing some linework. Unfinished? Some other things to mention is that the yellow thing would have to be a bit steeper for it to sit on his shoulder, and there is a white rod of some sort on his belt that hasn't been shaded (or, hasn't been shaded enough to be seen by the naked eye). Awesome job on the face though, has a nice amount of details and looks really well done! :) Ok, another major flaw is the light source! It looks like there is light coming from everywhere, and it becomes quite unrealistic. The shading isn't bad, if you fixed the light source it would probably look a lot better. There is some linear/radial gradient shading I'm seeing there (sword, yellow sash thing) which should be changed. Lastly, your outlines are all so dark. Outlines like those on the cape could have their colours changed to make it look more realistic... Basically, I'd suggest looking through a quick guide on pixeling. You seem like a great artist, but I'm seeing some flaws in your pixels. I'd suggest reading everything, especially Shading and Soft Outlines. http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/index.html
  22. Phalanxe, you're just promoting the fact that bryce abstracts are nothing but tori/primitive shapes! :x There are some great (more complex) abstracts that can come out of bryce, but there is no comparison beside the more advanced (and more expensive) programs like 3dsmax or C4D. But there is no point in buying a $3,000+ 3D modeling program if all you want to do are some basic abstracts. Instead, you can spend $50 for Bryce and start pumping out basic tori/sphere abstracts. :D If however, you want to get into very advanced 3D, (as in modeling, instead of just basic shapes) programs like 3dsmax, rhino3D, and maya are great choices. :? What makes you say this... Its probably the easiest to master for simple abstracts, and more complex abstracts can look as fantastic as 3ds max models if you know how to use the program.

Ah! I'm on my non-tablet computer. Tomorrow I'll give it a more professional shot at something a little nicer. But for now, all you can do is oggle at the amazingness of what is to follow! http://www.fabrica.it/flipbook/flipbook ... 2410224633 http://www.fabrica.it/flipbook/flipbook ... 2410224633
  24. You ask for C/C, and then seconds later you say: :| What exactly do you want us to critique and give you advice on? Unless I'm entirely mistaken about your meaning of "Rendering", there is no artistic talent required behind extraction. "Everyone is doing it, so it must be right!" :D Don't get yourself in trouble by jumping off any bridges! If you see my point. Anyways, since I'll try to give some sort of a meaning to my post: The original image is terrible quality! And if you save as a 24bit .PNG with transparency it will become transparent when somebody saves and opens it into photoshop. Saving it as a JPG (non transparent) with a white background won't help, whoever opens it will just have to re-extract it to get rid of the background (and since its a JPG, select > color range won't work nearly as well!)
  25. Here are some ideas, hopefully you can let creativity get the better of you! Biomechanical bannanas Deadly cows (they will rebel one day!) Robotic clowns 3 legged ninja The Grim Reaper muncing on his Captain Crunch cereal. A cutiepootatie little chibi with a big knife. A devilish rubber ducky A mechanical rubber ducky A giant ogre/orc/etc. flirting with a regular sized woman. Love at first sight! :) Or you can be boring/unoriginal/pathetic and do a wildy scene with a guy's head rolling on the ground. :(
