Why are you sticking with 2k, by the way? I could have sworn support for 2k stopped a while ago.

It looks good for a basic laptop. It'll play some older games well and runescape/school related stuff. I'm not really sure what the start-up programs are.

Yeah I was unsure about the Quad cores. Right now they aren't terribly... out there, I'm not sure if it'd be best to adopt to them earlier. I left a bit of leeway room as well incase you wanted to upgrade the video card or something a bit higher. You can add in cooling as well if you're interested in overclocking. :)

That is not a good idea, this could disable his firewall and virus scanner. It may also disable some drivers which would cause problems. Yeah thats just asking for trouble, especialy for an inexperienced user who might not know some processes are important.

Hey I have some extra time right now sith (saw you checking these forums) so I'm going to put together some basic ideas for a PC. :)

I think I'll stick with the one I posted. Don't really want to spend "$40 here, $40 there" on small upgrades because then I'd be in a few hundred more bucks. Trying to save as much as possible (gotta save for college).

Serrious? I wouldn't even dream or think of running vista on 512 mb of ram, let alone trying to game with it. I'm going to upgrade once DX 10 becomes more common. Right now it just isn't worth it. It's vista basic- so it isnt as bad. I can run RS with no lag, except for when windows was downloading updates. I checked, and it only uses 65%-80% of memory when running RS :) Thats Runescape, it doesn't count. When people say their gaming they mean "real" games like FPS games or WoW. Yeah running a little java app doesn't mean jack because it takes hardly any memory anyways. Having to take a 512mb or so hit when playing top end games is very bad, even if you have 2 gigs. To be honest I wouldn't get vista with less than 2GB of ram.

I would recommend, if you're afraid of putting together your own PC, to buy the parts and hire someone to put it together. More than likely there is some company around you that would be glad to put together a PC for an installation fee, and I'd be much cheaper. I'll check newegg and see what I can't find. For a budget of $2000, like blade said, you can get a pretty much top of the line machine. Hell mine I'm building is going to cost 600 and is very capable.

Does your monitor have settings for color on it? Most likely you have something messed up there.

Agreed. If I ever starting crying/throwing a fit as a child my parents would take me out of the store/restaurant/whatever until I got quiet. Just keeping your kid crying in the middle of of the store, or worse, a restaurant is just bad.
