Losing a friend
I disagree that it needs a rhyme scheme, but definitely some kind of meter. It's pretty pointless right now because it conveys no emotion, the whole of it is summed up in the title, and the language is bland. Poetry is the ultimate demonstration of the "show, don't tell" rule; let every word contribute to the overall meaning and let that meaning be open to interpretation.

Twilight.
Don't know who this is addressed to so I won't answer, but whether or not someone has read them is not a point. It makes no difference. We have quite a few articles and reviews cited here whose authors HAVE read the books, and their opinions are concurrent. It is a breakdown of logic to conclude that someone who has not read the books in their entirety using the SAME arguments is less credible. I have not read Brisingr, but I don't need to to know that Paolini still has problems with purple prose, needless fluff, cardboard characters, and massive Gary-Stuism. Nor do I need to read it to know that he has improved in some of those areas, because people who have read the books have reported so through presentation of instances in the book. Citations, if you will. To take an example out of Brisingr: Roran has a 200-odd kill count at the end of a certain battle. Did I read this? No. Is it still utterly ridiculous and the mark of a Gary-Stu? Yes.

Twilight.
Let me point you to this quote, or rather, wave it in front of your face with large epilepsy-inducing letters: And can you honestly say that "I like to watch you sleep" is not an extremely creepy thing to say, much less do? And then there's the bruising after sex bit. No, that's not abusive AT ALL. No one disputed that it's a bestseller. As a matter of fact, Twilight was the first book to knock Deathly Hallows off the #1 bestseller spot. But it's not a bestseller on literary merit, not one bit. Which is the scary part. Arguments can't simply be thrown out because the person making them hasn't read the book. Faulty logic, there. Even more faulty is the assumption that he hasn't read the book just because he disagrees with you and so is OBVIOUSLY wrong. As a matter of fact, the literary merit of these books is pretty much undisputable. From a critical standpoint, they're bad. Really bad.

HEROES SPOILER!!
Meh, I've come to accept the half-[wagon] pseudoscience (remember Charlie?) but the fact that eclipses aren't a rare occurence is really bugging me too. The only thing so far that fits into the eclipse thing is Daphne, because it seems like she's experienced losing her powers before from what she said. The jungle place was Haiti, by the way. They were looking for the Haitian.

Grades, GPA's; How do you do in School?
For some reason my school shows GPA as a percentage and not the weird 4 point system. Never had below a 90 all three years of high school so far, though last quarter I came close with like a 90.1 because I failed my quarter Precalc exam

HEROES SPOILER!!
I have to disagree. "What is this, tai-kwon-do?" "No, it's baseball." Noah is just so awesome. I couldn't resist thinking "double headshot!" as he was zooming in on Sylar and Elle sucking face.

Twilight.
Eldest was the worst book by miles. Eragon was the best. Haven't read Brisingr but most people place it between the other two somewhere, Eragon being the better and Eldest the worse. So an improvement over Eldest but not quite reaching the simple level he was at before he went horizontal with a thesarus and had bajillion-ets. And started throwing in bad philosophy through his mouthpieces, nudist hippy vegan elves who inexplicably wear leather. And threw in the BIGGEST deus ex machina I've ever had the misfortune to read, the Bload-Oath Ceremony. Dear God. It already looked like Star Wars without the movie. Which did suck unbelievably. The fifth Artemis Fowl is called The LOst Colony, by the way. That might confuse anyone looking for it ;) This is my new favorite thread XD

Angels & Demons (The Movie)
I enjoyed the film version of the Da Vinci Code but couldn't even finish the book  Consequenly I haven't read Angels and Demons.

Twilight.
That was a pretty typical fan response, albeit more civil. "It's a bestseller, stop trashing it because being such a bestseller obviously means that SM > You and you have no life for criticizing it." And no, Twilight fangirls are far worse than Timberlake fangirls, if those even exist anymore.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band Discussion thread
I'm starting to think that my widescreen tv is having a negative effect on my playing. I FC'ed Hotel California's solo in band play as well as having phenomenal runs on Satch Boogie and Sweet Home Alabama, and I think it's because the notes aren't stretched out horizontally like when the fretboard takes up the whole screen. Harder to see that way.

Twilight.
The day-to-day activities in HP are what set the mood, especially in the last four books. Goblet of Fire, everyone hates Harry and us being shown through his day brings that point home - then when everyone loves him after the First Task the expectations are raised and we see that too. Order of the Phoenix, everyone thinks Harry is a lying nutcase and once again we are shown it through his day-to-day experiences. Although I think the whole angst thing was a bit overdone and got a bit annoying after a while. Half-Blood Prince, he is vindicated and a hero again, but Voldemort is out in the open and my personal favorite of the series shows us the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, but at the same time life goes on. And Harry isn't even at Hogwarts in the last book so there are no depictions of school life. Opposed to Twilight, which also has a school setting. First of all, why the hell is a 100-year-old vampire attending high school? Meyer's fantasy: 1 Actual plot: 0. The only purpose of the high school setting is to show how "mature" Bella is in comparison with all her sadly negligible friends and act as the gateway for the EPIC ROMANCE. To drive this point home, we see exactly one class: Biology, in which Bella meets Edward. And that's it for the rest of the book and indeed the series. What? DragonLance is just a D&D-type stock fantasy that's fun to read but not the stuff of greatness. Thought about reading them, but I've heard from other literary enthusiasts like me that they're really bad. I did read an excerpt. It was about a chicken that was evil incarnate. Wtf is all I can say. I'll pass. Here is a link to a blog that really puts the books in perspective, and all I can say is wow: http://sandstormreviews.blogspot.com/2006/08/goodkind-parodies.html I'll try to find the evil chicken excerpt, it is quite entertaining in a "how the [bleep] did this [cabbage] get published" kind of way. Twilight.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DAMMIT. I had a really big post typed up in response to kalphiteman and somehow I managed to open my favorites and click a link when trying to capitalize a damn letter. To paraphrase: Adult books: Wheel of Time, has its problems especially later on but still fun to read. A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, outstanding, one of the best series of books I've ever read. Note: very mature at times. LOTR: I have problems reading it sometimes as the prose can get dense, but Tolkein was an Oxford English professor and some of it is really beautiful. That's not what he's noted for anyway, he invented the typical fantasy elves and dwarves and was the first to create an incredibly in-depth and engaging fantasy world. Star Wars EU: Not all of the books are great works of prose, but it's Star Wars : YA: The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, it's a shame they aren't more widely read. Harry Potter of course. As a side note I loathe Twilight being hailed as "the nest Harry Potter!" Please. Rowling is a good writer, Meyer isn't. Pendragon, Bobby's voice is just appealing overall and the themes are fresh and un-typical. I enjoy Artemis Fowl still, even though it's a bit juvenile for me now and I heard the last one kinda sucked. That's all I can think of for now, and this post was typed in great haste due to the fact that it's the second time (I'm still pissed about that) so sorry for any lack of quality lol.

Our Generation
On a related note to Twilight, literature in general anymore is just terrible. There are some gems out there that I've been lucky to find, and Harry Potter deserves every bit of the recognition it has received and will go down in history, but the vast majority is just crap. However, I don't think this generation is unique in its general air of suckiness. You could say that music today sucks, that classic rock is better than anything today, but that simply isn't true. There was just as much crap in the 70s as there is now; the years have simply filtered the timelss stuff from the mediocre masses. The same with books, movies, trends, anything you can think of in that area. The social aspect is another matter though.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band Discussion thread
Five-starred Hotel California on Expert drums :D Ok so I suck on drums lol. I actually haven't played them that much so I was happy to do so well on Expert. But HC is a really easy song on everything so I shouldn't be too proud. I also hung my guitars on the wall. I feel like such a nerd but it looks badass. And now there's room to sit on the couch. I'll upload a pic tomorrow.

My Band
Right. Imperative completely flew my mind and I knew there would be some critical piece of information in there >_> I'll stop derailing this topic now. EDIT: I do. It was a learning experience, I have been corrected :)

My Band
You can't stick an object pronoun on the end of a conjugated verb? ¿Puedes ponerlo en Youtube? No tengo ganas de descargarlo. That would be the correct way to say it would it not? But I'm forgetting my imperative, so you could be right, but I don't think so. And I'm not sure about the use of "en" with Youtube. Or "descargar." Translating internet lingo = not fun. And if you're a native speaker I just made a fool of myself :D
