Magic Lvl
I agree. My magic level is 64 (also working on 66) and it's been pretty quick xp alching. Sometimes I've even been surprised to find I've leveled, because I didn't expect it so soon. I have lost very little, if any, money alching, especially now that nats are so low. On a related note, alching seems a bit slower with the new animation, but it might just seem that way to me because I miss the old one.

What combat level for haunted mine?
I'm combat 88 and still haven't finished it. Teleports (at least ectophial) do work -- I've teleported out 3 times.

Slayer - combat skill or not?
I saw a post about this on the RSOF. Some people were quite upset when Smoking Kills came out because it required a combat level of 85 for a quest designed around what they saw as a non-combat skill.

Bronze Knives v. Iron Knives
I will. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I'm trying to remember when I had level 53 strength -- I really think my max hit was a lot more than six. I also think I hit higher than six when I had 53 mage (although, to be honest, I probably Cammy teleported through that entire level). It seems strange that range would be so different. OK, I'm done whining about it. Off to the yaks!

Bronze Knives v. Iron Knives
Thanks to you both. I hadn't realized there would be such a small difference, though I will defintely check to see if I hit higher more often with the iron (I'm guessing that's correct). Since I already have bought a ton of iron knives, I'm going to use them -- it can't hurt and will probably help a bit. Sigh...hitting 6's though...it's so depressing -.-

money wanted fo whip. any advice on money making appreciated
If you are lazy (like me!), just do MTK. You can make about 75K profit/per day (last I checked), so you'd have the money you need in a bit more than a week without doing anything else. You can always mine rune ess or run laws for some quick money.

Bronze Knives v. Iron Knives
Does using iron knives have any advantage over using bronze knives at yaks? I just tried 100 of each and my max hit was 6(!) with both. I would have expected to hit a bit harder with iron knives, but I didn't. In case it's relevant, I have level 53 range, wore full blue d-hide, archer helm, snakeskin boots, and Ava's accumulator. I didn't use any range potion.

f2p range training
There's a room in the second level of the Stronghold of Security that has one flesh crawler and a bunch of level 30 zombies. The flesh crawler is aggressive no matter your level (and has fairly good drops for its level) and the zombies drop steel arrows (which is a great help if you are ranging). I went from 40-50 range there pretty quickly.

Fire lighters Poll!
Sure. Might as well get some money for them. I save them because I can't bring myself to just drop them -- they are a treasure trail reward after all, I keep thinking they must be "valuable."

20k exp lamp what should i use it on?
Use it on something you absolutely hate to train. I always use mine on agility because I get so frustrated trying to train it. There is also some thought that you might want to use it on a low-ranked skill because you get more levels with it. For example, if you are level 1 in farming, 20K xp will take you to almost to level 34, and you can start out with planting ranarrs. I'd still go with agility, but that's just because I hate training it so much. :x P.S. Forget what I said about the low-ranked skills, I just looked at your stats...oops!

law runes with abyss?
You can also use the agility or thieving entrances ("distract eyes" or "squeeze through"). Those work just as well as the one that requires a pickaxe.

Barrows armor and decay
Thanks so much for the answer. I was hoping that was the case.

Barrows armor and decay
Does barrows armor decay only during combat? I have read that it decays during combat even if you are not being hit (i.e., if you are safespotting). Does the decay only happen, then when you are actually attacking someone/something? Is that what is meant by combat? If I wear it while walking around or skilling, can I assume it is not decaying? I ask because I was wearing some while high-alching and wondered if since magic is a combat skill and I am actively casting spells (even a noncombat spell like high alchemy), is the armour decaying?

range 37+
I went from 40 to 50 pretty quickly in in the room in the Stronghold of Security that has both a flesh crawler and skeletons. The flesh crawler is aggresive and has decent drops for its level. The skeltons drop steel arrows, which is a help if you are ranging. I dont think I had to use much, if any, food down there because neither hit very hard. Hill giants also work well. If you are P2P, I suggest the ones north of castle wars, as they are far less crowded.

how much do you remember?
There are some skills (crafting, range, cooking) for which I have no recollection of how I got the levels I have. Some skills I wanted and deliberately worked on (like prayer). Others (most!) I seem to have randomly trained. Perhaps this is why my total level is only 1185. Here's what I do remember: PRAYER When I first got members, I wanted 43 prayer. I did the quests required to use Ectofuntus, killed tons of Moss Giants, and bought buckets of slime from the traders in Port Phasmatys. Very tedious. I have gained a few levels since then, just from burying big bones when I get them. Getting a rune defender helped with that. MAGIC I have no idea how I got the first few levels, though I do remember maging cows and then the level 7 wizards south of Varrock so I would get runes as drops. After that it was Falador teleport until I could do Camelot teleport, then Camelot until 55. I was VERY fortunate to have a friend who was crafting laws at the time and shared with me. Other than random teleporting and enchanting jewelry, all mage xp since then has come from high alching. ATTACK, STRENGTH, DEFENSE, HP I do remember a lot of time in the goblin house in Lumbridge and the rats in Lumbridge swamp. I also killed an awful lot of Moss Giants to get bones for prayer. Now I mostly train through slayer, though I spent a lot of time at red spiders when I was working on 70 defense. MINING AND SMITHING Mining and smithing were the first skills I worked on. I started in Lumbridge mining copper and tin. I eventually moved to Al-Kharid and then to Falador to mine iron and then later coal. I made most of my money in the beginning by selling steel bars. I haven't done any of either since my first six months of play. THIEVING I started with the tea stall in Varrock and stayed there a long time. Eventually I moved on to Ardougne for cakes and later, silk. AGILITY I have no idea. I did a little bit of the course in the gnome stronghold. I suspect most of my xp (level 43) has come from quests -- I hate training it and really haven't done much of it. FISHING My fishing level moved up without much notice because I fished to eat in the beginning. I noticed things really sped up when I started fly fishing trout (and eventually salmon) at Barbarian Village. I mostly fish lobsters now or swordfish and tuna, but got my last 2 levels at Shilo. FIREMAKING I have level 38 entirely from making cooking fires in F2P. I haven't trained it since. WOODCUTTING All of my xp was from randomly cutting trees to make fires until I wanted to do Fremmenik Trials. Then I had to spend several hours at Draynor cutting willows. RUNECRAFTING This was very low until I decided I wanted to craft nats. I had sporadically trained it just to supply myself with runes to train magic (air, water, earth, fire, minds). Once I decided I wanted to train it, I used dueling rings and crafted fires. Now I just make nats. FLETCHING I had made arrows on my own just to try out the skill and got to about level 18. I then was hanging out with a friend who fletched a lot (he later got the cape) and I just kinda fletched along with him. I think I got to 44 or so in a few days of hanging out with him. He got a cape and moved on to a new skill. I haven't fletched since.

In-game boyfriends/girlfriends
It is quite annoying. I used to try to be polite to those asking me to be their gf, telling them at first, "no thank you," and when they persisted (as they almost always did), telling them I had a real boyfriend who would not appreciate it or trying to explain that I simply had no interest in an in-game bf and I thought it was a silly idea. I actually think it is a stupid idea, but would say "silly" because it seemed less harsh. After a few years of this, I no longer even try to be polite. I just either say "nty" (I don't even bother to type it out) or ignore the person entirely. I get about the same results as when I tried to be more polite, but with far less effort and annoyance on my part. I had thought this would be less of a problem after the new trading restrictions went into effect, but that hasn't been the case.

New update agaisnt people with less rl money
Whether or not the new graphics will give players who can use them an advantage is debatable. They may simply have a more pleasing game experience. The bigger problem with RWT was not that players who could afford to buy items and money had an advantage over other players (though they certainly did), it was the other problems that RWT caused like the issues with stolen credit cards. I remember reading an interview with a Runescape developer who likened the situation to prostitution - the crime that comes along with it is worse than the original problem.

Rune Defender
As an example, here are the amount of tokens I used getting each defender (I have no idea what compelled me to keep track). 100 to get Bronze 190 more to get Iron 290 more to get Steel 690 more to get Black (was beginning to think I did something wrong) 580 more to get Mithril 160 more to get Adamant 40 more to get Rune 2050 total tokens to get the first rune defender. I had leftover tokens, so I used another 370 to get a second. I went back a few months later with 600 tokens and got two more rune defenders. I randomly hit both the level 56's and the level 76's -- and have gotten rune from both. If you are doing this, by all means get a second (at least) while you are at it, so that in case you die with your defender, you don't have to go through it again. It's also nice to have extras so that you have a placeholder in your bank. I still have the bronze through adamant defenders....I should probably be able to drop them, but it was such a pain to get them that I just can't do it.

Please help me decide what armor to buy :)
Good question. What's a decent income? I get income from MTK, maybe 75,000 gp profit/day? I think it may be a bit less now (even with coal at 230). I don't really do much else for money atm, because I don't seem to spend much lately. I could always craft nats if I needed more money.

Please help me decide what armor to buy :)
I have finally reached 69 def and am thinking about what armor I want to buy when I reach 70. Right now, my other stats are 70 att, 69 str, 69 hp, 46 prayer. I also have 51 range and 60 mage, if that is at all relevant. I need some advice on the best set up for melee, once I reach 70 def. I am currently wearing: Rune platebody (I have a granite plate, but don't use it much -- it makes me look fat) D Skirt D boots Neitzinot Glory Obby cape Addy gloves Defender Whip or d long I'd appreciate any advice. I'm pretty clueless.

Old Ways To Make Money?
I, too, used to make money smithing steel bars. I smithed all the coal and iron myself and it took FOREVER (or at least felt like it!). One hundred steel bars would bring 55,000 to 60,000 gp -- which to me at the time was a small fortune. My previous money making efforts included picking up tuna in Karamja and selling to the store in Port Sarim, buying silk in Al-Kharid and selling in the Varrock clothing store, and my all-time favorite, buying steel or iron platebodies in the Varrock general store (when they had hundreds in stock) and selling them slowly, five at a time, to Horvik in Varrock. I still have a F2P account with about 60 iron platebodies in its bank. Off topic - I do miss the old system of general stores. Nothing was better than buying pure ess for 1gp each. I realized recently that I haven't been in a general store in a long time -- the chance that I might find a bargain if I stop in and browse was the only reason I went there.

your noobiest moments!
I remember walking past Varrock West Bank and seeing people saying "Selling fires 10 ea" or "Selling 1k fires 10K" etc (or however much they cost back then). I asked an in-game friend how people could buy and sell fires. It made no sense at all to me. You couldn't even pick a fire up or store one in your bank; how could you buy and sell them? I also wondered what the point of that was. Why would one want to buy a fire? The maker already got the firemaking xp and it seemed like there were plenty of free ones being made everywhere if one needed to cook something. I was mystified. Around the same time I was killed by a cow in Lumbridge. To remind me of my shame, those vermin in the most recent Easter event had to use death by Lumbridge cow to taunt the chocatrice. He took it as an insult; I was reminded of my past noobyness. It made me smile.

Law Running
I was running laws last night (might as well do it now while I still can). I always take a law talisman so I can trade inside the Law Altar. Inside, the trading always goes smoothly. I take 27 pure ess and receive 27 noted ess and 27 law runes. I'm really going to miss that if it becomes a casualty of the anti-RWT crusade. Teleporting (for me) will become a luxury...only done occasionally....but I digress. Outside ithe law altar s another story. Lots of people yelling at each other to get out of the middle or telling others to quit trying to trade them. It's a madhouse; I don't know how the runners and crafters find each other. What I don't get is the people saying "Open 10" or "Open 15." What are they doing? Are those crafters trading only 10 or 15 laws? I'm clueless as I have never done law running without going into the law altar (and can't imagine having to do it from the outside). What does "Open X" mean? Is the system different outside the altar?

Girls in RuneScape
I'm wondering now if after the update in January, we may not see quite a few more male characters. If the theory is that a number of guys play as female characters hoping to get gifts from their wealther "boyfriends," once that possibility is eliminated and the perceived advantage no longer exists, will we see many of these pseudo-female characters being abandoned or changing to male characters? Maybe us "real girls" will then get less questioning....one can only hope that something positive comes out of this update.

What is your rating on your friends list?
That's a difficult act to follow. I'm 50 out of 87. My total level is 1,066 and I have a little more than 3,000,000 xp. What's interesting is the person at 52 on my friends list has nearly 14,000,000 xp. In fact, all but four people on the list have more total xp than I do. I seem to be the slacker of my friends....
