Open up your pc, and give it a good dusting. Take the fan off the heatsink and make sure the top of the metal isn't clogged up with dust, that will impede airflow. If there's no dust in your case, it could be a virus, not trying to alarm you, but it's always a good idea to run a virus scan. You might have a keylogger that's taking screenshots and sending it to people. That's unlikely though, and unlikely you have it, again don't get too worried.

Perhaps there's some kind of force refresh option for it. Although I can't find one, and googling didn't immediately come up with anything.

By cpu I assume you meant motherboard? I've got a Foxconn one, it does the job. See the 8 pin socket just to the left of the cpu area, I just have my single 4 pin connector in the top 4, and my pc works fine. [hide=][/hide]

Does it look like the one on the left? If so, just plug it in to the 8 pin socket, making sure it's neat to the side, i.e. not in the middle. It should work, that's what mine does, and another pc I've built.

If you mean max settings, then yes even my computer can do that. What do you define as 'maxed out'?

Athough you shouldn't need to access the router's settings, you don't actually need to be connected to the internet to get to it. You'll need to type in an ip address into your browser address bar, which one depends on your router, check your manual for details. As long as you're connected to the router you should be able to access it. That, of course, depends if you are connected but not receiving internet. You do have some method of connecting to your router, right? If you're using Vista (I don't know about XP or others OS's) there's an option to repair your connection if you go into the networking centre. That might work, or restarting your adapter, and other various options it offers you.

Java is a programming language, javascript is a web scripting language. :P They're not reaated, apart from the similar syntax. I haven't played the FSG in ages, good times.

Building a computer is easy, you just take the parts and plug them in. PC software is more complicated, in my opinion, than hardware. Have you tried unplugging and putting back in the wireless adapter on your mother's computer? Sometimes I find my one won't connect unless I do that. I believe the DS is only compatible with WEP, so focus on keeping that and trying to get the other computer to work. If you have a spare ethernet cable and it's close enough, try connecting via that.

Calm down, maybe we just didn't want to help you? Computer building and networking are different, and require different skills and knowledge.

It's not difficult, the only thing that isn't just plug in and go is the application of thermal paste to the cpu, but that isn't exactly rocket science. You'll need your motherboard's manual, it should be a big fold out piece of paper with an annotated picture of your mobo with all the parts. The trickiest part there is locating and inserting the front case panel wires, they are tiny, and very fiddley. That's pretty much it though.

As Tripsis said, there's no official rule about text. If you feel that a signature has too much extra text, report it, and the moderator who handles the report will use his/her discretion to decide if it is breaking the rules. Bearing in mind of course that if there are images in the signature that don't equal 450x200, more lines of text are fine, as long as they don't break the limit by being there.

PCI slots (and other ones- PCI-E, AGP etc) are expansion slots, you plug in the peripherals like sound cards, graphics cards, usb expansion cards, wifi cards and like into them. They fit perpendicular to your motherboard, and the part you plug stuff into fits into the back, outside of your case, just below the I/O section (where you plug your keyboard, ethernet, some usb's into and stuff). PCI-E is the current release, if you like, the fastest, most up to date one. The one before is PCI, that's still very common on lots of motherboards, and before that it is AGP. You'll be most likely to find a mix of these 3 types on the majority of low to mid end motherboards. You can easily tell how many and what type of expansion slot you have. Look at the image below, around the bottom left of the motherboard are several long thin slots, these are pci and pci-e slots. The 3 white ones are PCI, notice the length compared to the other ones and also the separators along the length. The blue and black ones are PCI-E, notice they are longer and have different separators compared to the the PCI slots. Also, most PCI-E slots (that I've seen, anyway) have a little thing at the end that helps secure the card. Inserting the cards is as easy as lining up the bottom slot and pushing it in so it fits, then screwing in the face plate so it sits sturdy in the case. [hide=][/hide]

Yours was removed because you had 5 lines in addition to 2 images that all together were breaking the rules. You're forgetting that 5 lines is the rough limit for a signature which already occupies the 450x200 pixels. If you don't have any images, you can have as many lines of text as you want, until you hit the character limit and if it doesn't take up more than 200 pixels height.

I've got the Creative soundblaster Audigy, it's a fine card, does exactly what I need it to. The load off from the cpu won't be huge, so unless you can easily afford it, are prepared to pay for it and you will make use of it (i.e. you like to listen to good quality music through nice speakers etc) then it's a good purchase. The Creative Audigy is a pci card, so make sure you've got a spare pci slot available on the motherboard or you won't be able to use it.

You're taking my words out of context; I said the reasonable limit is four or five lines at the most, of normal size. This is what I assume most of our moderators would have no issue with.

They'll have a basic integrated one, same with graphics. I think a dedicated graphics card is always a good idea, a sound card isn't as important, unless you want good quality sound, and it always lightens the load on the cpu anyway.

I never set a 260px signature rule... I said via our pm conversation that the maximum official limit is 450x200, and that we also allow some lines of text below the image. Besides, EMR's signature is within those limits, the text is smaller than the normal size and another mod has said it is fine, so I'm not over ruling them.

I just tap the metal in the case, it works fine. Also, wash your hands with soap or handwash etc, just because you're touching delicate equipment, it's a good idea to have clean hands. Grease isn't particularly good for circuits. This is my personal way of putting a pc together: motherboard - psu - hard drive and disk drives - RAM - cpu/heatsink - video cards/sounds cards etc - connect it all up I think that's all the parts, though I've probably missed something. #-o

Firefox is more secure, better for rendering webpages, better functionality and doesn't make web developers cry. There's no advantage IE has over Firefox that immediately comes to my mind.
