  1. I've forgotten all those and more: Forgot my spade in lvl 50 wildy while doing a clue. Forgot my antifire shield when going to fight dragons. Forgot to bring teleport spells at all sorts of places. (Thank you hometeleport!) Forgot to recharge prayer before heading to battle. Forgot to eat and restock my low hp before heading to battle. (Fun to arrive at GWD or Mith Dragons and realize you have 20 hp.) Forgot my charms while training Summoning. Forgot my bones while training Prayer. Forgot my essence or to fill my pouches while RCing. I have about a dozen tinderboxes because I would keep forgetting them. I'm sure the list goes on. Great thread. I love laughing about the foolish things I do.
  2. This is a paragraph from an article I wrote for the Tip.It Times a couple of months ago. This paragraph talks about Hunter. It was meant to be a joke, but wouldn't it be cool to see in the game? :P [hide=]Right out of the gates in 2006, I have to admit the skill always felt unpolished. Even the skillcape emote felt like a letdown. This was the first skillcape and emote released since their inception. I was anticipating an awe inspiring theatric performance. Maybe it could start out hiding in a bush, only a pair of eyes blinking and waiting patiently for my prey. A hapless unicorn strolls by in search of a lush patch of grass to graze on. Suddenly, I jump out from the bush armed with a buck knife and a loud war cry. I bring the unicorn down with a series of thrusts before slitting its throat. Blood spurts in a fountain over my naked body as I lift my hands in the air in a display of carnage and triumph. Now thats an emote! Needless to say, I felt disappointed in the end.[/hide]
  3. Boy, you have no imagination, do you? He's not demanding new emotes...he's asking what would you like to see your character do alternatively. People want to shut down everything, and be like "you can't do it." Here's an old proverb for you: "Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the people doing it."
  4. The Times is what drew me to Tip.It. It gives me something to internalize for the rest of the week. They are often insightful and thoughtful, and at times can even be controversial. Everything you want in a discussion.
  5. If you look at the combat spells, even fire spells require more air runes to cast. Water runes are needed for Ancient spells. What about Earth runes? Well, like others have pointed out, Fire runes are one of the most common rune drops in the game. Also, Fire runes ARE one of the quickest runes to craft. It's just that most people choose profit instead when it comes to RCing.
  6. As editor of a literary magazine, I would accept this story in a minute. If you haven't already had it published, you should try submitting it out there. It's that good. Just make sure to delete this thread before you do. Excellent, excellent story!
  7. I would also remove the period after the quotes since the entire thing is in quotations. There isn't a need to connect this. Your readers will naturally follow along action=reaction sequences. Beckoned usually means to motion someone to come closer. Try "He motioned for his servant..." Your point of view during this chapter has been more or less from Noah and the other kids. You can't flip in the middle and start reading Rodney's thoughts. If the group is close enough to see Rodney's actions, then try using his physical actions to get your point across. I haven't read Chapter 5 yet. I'll try to get to it soon.
  8. LoL! Good one, Tip.It. That's the second time I've been RickRoll'd today!
  9. Aside from a few grammatical issues, I think the story is interesting. I would like to see a little more bravery or action from your protagonist, but your antagonists are developing well. It's really hard to form an opinion about the story because it's just begun to set up the plot. It's a creative beginning though. It kept my interest and I did enjoy it. There are some revisions that could be made, but I wouldn't consider anything until you have the full story written. Revising is easier. I encourage you to finish what you've got. I like it so far. I wouldn't post if I didn't.
  10. Certainly. Your story begins in the past tense, meaning your verbs are written in the past tense. Later you begin writing present tense verbs. Ex: this passage is written in past tense. I've bolded and italicized some verbs as example. The next passage shifts from the past tense to the present tense: and then it drifts back into the past tense: Let's take the verb "pass." The active present tense would be passes, and the past tense of the verb would be passed. He passes through the doorway. He passed through the doorway. It's important to maintain the same tense for continuity in the story. It doesn't really matter which you choose though. Many short stories tend to use a present tense, while many novels tend to use past tense. It's a common mistake among beginner writers. I used to do it myself until somebody caught me. I still see many students making this mistake in my college classes. Hope this helps clear it up a bit.
  11. I only read the first two paragraphs, but found quite a few things you may want to consider. Why do who have to do what to us? You should avoid beginning sentences with conjunctions. ...dread and excitement or ...dread but excitement not "yet also" as that sounds a bit conflicting It sounds as though this is Chris's thought and not the narrator's. Be careful to maintain your point-of-view throughout the story. There is a typo in the first sentence. You started the next sentence with "but" again. It's not a good idea to break off in the middle of the story to give blatant explanations to your readers. You need enough evidence in the story to allow the readers to understand on their own the circumstance. Spelling it out like this weakens the story and slows the plot down. Also, "no one" does not need a hyphen. You changed to a present tense here. Stick to the same tense throughout your story. Classroom is one word. Jesus Christ I'll try to read more later. Good luck.
  12. Well, it's tough to argue with that. If you don't feel like it then don't do it. If your REAL concerns are ranging/summoning then the title of this thread is misleading.
  13. Nechs are pretty decent crimson droppers, but IMO it's a waste of money to chin them. They are pretty easy to kill. You can take Guthans with you. Gargoyles may drop more blues, but if you look at the overall xp in charms you get vs the time it takes to kill them it's not worth it. I'd at least consider training slayer to 83 to get Spiritual Mages.
  14. I certainly can't answer all of these, but maybe I can steer you right on a couple of them. Overall, Firecape would be better because of the +2 attack bonuses, the +4 strength bonus, and +2 better defense overall than the trimmed skillcape. The untrimmed skillcapes have the same stats as an obsidian cape. The trimmed has a +4 prayer bonus. The Firecape has a +2 prayer bonus. You don't need to max out range and hp to do the caves, but the higher the stats the better the results. If you have 70+ range and 45+ prayer you can go ahead and attempt it so you can at least get a "feel" for the caves. Most people fail their first few attempts before getting the hang of it, but it is a safe minigame. There are a few guides out there such as this one here. The closest ones I can think of are just north of Ardougne and west of Fishing Guild. You should consider doing Monkey Madness to have the ability to equip the Dragon scimitar. A quest I thought was really fun was My Arm's Big Adventure. It was very funny. As you continue to grow you should consider Legends, Desert Treasure, and Recipe for Disaster. You should consider going ahead and starting Recipe for Disaster. It's divided into several subquests, and after completing each subquest you get the ability to purchase some very nice gloves. Hope this helps you some. And I hope others can answer your other questions. Good luck and have fun!
  15. Gosh, I wish that's all that happened. If it was, the recession would've been completely contained in the subprime housing market. There's a reason why banks were handing out risky loans: they were selling them out the back door to private investors. THIS is where they stepped outside of the law. The private investors weren't regulated. The investors chopped up all the bad loans, mixed a few good loans in, bundled them all up, and AIG insured them and gave them the best rating. Then they sold them around the world. The banks that bought up these mortgage-backed securities are afraid to lend anymore credit, because they're not even sure what's on these assets anymore (i.e. toxic assets), therefore they don't even know what their balance sheets look like. I know it's drifting off-topic. Sorry.
  16. In real-life it's a kris (but I guess it's called both). In the game there is a dagger called a Keris though.
  17. Now that's what I call being a fan! Not that I wouldn't wear it, but I just don't have enough room in my closet with all my star wars costumes.
  18. What i don't understand is if Jagex is ok with destroying things like range training with chinchompas and thieving training with PP why the heck would they be so worried about putting in a second useful agility course. It wasn't even like the massive spam xp like the previous 2 mentioned. Anyways, good article. We all have aspects of the game we complain about. Jagex just fixed one that I used to always complain about with route finder, so maybe sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease?
  19. The study was inspired by the Nuremburg Trials, when high-ranking Nazi officials gave "we were just following orders" as a defense to the atrocities and crimes committed. As someone said earlier. The study demonstrated how far people are willing to go in deference of authority. As long as someone in charge was telling the participants, "It's my responsibility, not yours," then they were more willing to go all the way. I would like to say I couldn't do it, but look at the statistics.
  20. And it's hard to dispute that claim. Not if you have a lot of time on your hands. I do cut willows to level up wc, which is relatively slow compared to chopping teaks, yet I can gain more xp in a day than someone that cuts teaks. Yes, if I cut teaks I would obviously gain more xp, but I'm up for giving myself a harder time (e.g. power mining iron, training range and all melee stats at giant spiders, etc). In bold and italicized: Well, that's not very efficient then, is it. Basically, that statement says if you were more efficient you would gain more xp.
  21. This is great news! It takes me back to the Times article, Jagex Interfering. It looks like they are turning over a new leaf. This should be great for both communities. I'm looking forward to it.
  22. We may not all approach it as in depth as written in the article, but unless you are completely relying on other guides and what your friends say you use the math. Let's say I want train wcing, and I'm looking for a good guide to help me out. Are you going to listen to this guide: cut normal trees lvl 1-15 cut oaks lvl 15-30 cut willows lvl 30-60 cut yews 60-75 cut yews or magic 75-99 ...or are you going to listen to one that goes in depth and explores the reasoning behind their approach: explaining the best spots to cut, the best times to cut, and graphs xp per hour on different trees? If the author argues cutting yews at lvl 90 will be more profitable then magics, do you expect them to back it up by researching it? I'm curious how you write your guides without doing research. Sure, you could use your best guesses based on your experience, but it makes more sense to research the different possibilities so you have clear evidence to confidently back your claim. Anyways, the author's point was made in the very first sentence: And it's hard to dispute that claim. The article demonstrates how this type of player plans his or her goals, and can become self reliant. It certainly is more efficient than some players I've seen who randomly walk up to high levels and ask "How you make money?"
  23. and it beats plotting to assassinate your teachers and classmates!
