  1. interesting article. i agree in some parts with it. the biggest reason for the falling sales of ps3 is that sony bet the farm on blu ray technology when it hasn't come into common use. it almost seems that sony is trying to bully the market into blu ray instead of hd-dvd. they took a huge gamble and so far it hasn't payed off like they had hoped. one of the things that made ps1 and ps2 so successful was the compatability with the current technology in use. you could transform the ps1 into a cd player and the ps2 into a dvd player. both forms were already in standard use and thus made playstations appealing. the second reason why ps3 isn't selling well is the price tag. i love video games, but when they first came out...ya right...i wasn't paying 800 usd for it. i think most people who wanted one were pretty much saying the same thing i was "i'll wait till the price comes down before i get one" even at 400 dollars it starts getting pricey especially for (back to the first reason!) blu ray platform which still hasn't proved itself to become the standard. i am a sony fan. i still want a ps3. i hate to see the ps3 struggling as it has been. don't count sony out though. nintendo showed similar arrogance to the playstation back in the day when they released the nintendo 64 still in cartridge format and then the gamecube. kudos to them for creating a whole new market.
  2. back in my day we didn't openly discuss playing with our wii in public the only thing stopping me from getting one right now is the amount of games for it. i tried playing once and found the control a little awkward to use, but i think it just takes practice. i remember when nintendo tried doing something similar with the game glove, but it didn't really work very well. looks like technology is starting to catch up with what nintendo had envisioned for their games.
  3. i'm not fully seeing eye to eye with the editor i guess. i do remember the days of NES. in fact i remember the days before atari. one thing kids did for fun on the weekends was hit the arcades with a pocketfull of quarters....ya know...to have fun and kill time? atari was a good timekiller, but nobody spent hours playing because in most games were the same thing over and over...just different lvls which meant the game sped up or a few new obstacles and they were neverending until it was just too fast for you. i do remember alot of kids spending hours playing NES games like zelda and mario bros. looking back on it now...i think most of the kids today have grown up with home video games all of their lives. the technology has changed drastically. kids 20-30 years ago would spend hours talking on the phone to kill time. turn back the time even further...50-60 years ago kids killed time by fishing. today they text message and instant message each other. games have gotten alot more interesting with plot-filled storylines, increased control, and amazing graphics. it's a billion dollar industry today. i guess the point i'm trying to make is that the amount of time we kill hasn't changed drastically. it's how we spend it, because of what is available to us now. is it good or bad? who knows? is it less productive? maybe. if you told me 20 years ago that professional gamers would become this popular i'd have laughed. killing time by playing video games isn't bad. it's only when it begins to interfere with your real world obligations. skipping out on your responsiblities and goals to play video games isn't healthy. it's standing still while time moves forward. but if i decide to spend a sunday all day playing runescape because i have nothing better to do...well...i am gonna do that and not worry about how i am killing time. killing time means finding something to do to preoccupy you from your boredom. we tend to find things that we enjoy doing. then we do them. edit: i also find it curious that the editor of a popular FAN SITE TO A VIDEO GAME would begin taking this kind of stance. this isn't the first article that has been recently released that addresses this topic from this side of things.
  4. You can't even type properly on this forum, and you expect me to take you seriously!? Puh-lease! Put your dictionary back were it belongs and USE PROPER GRAMMAR! Then, I will think you are as intelligent as you claim to be. Making yourself look smart doesn't help anything thank you... You think senseless flaming of people is right? Good, because it case you didn't quite get the message, I like flaming people for improper grammar. Thus, I should be able to act on this whim whenever I please, according to your logic. ok thats good because flaming people with bad grammer is your intrest(if thats a real intrest though i doubt it is) it is what you like to do. Also if you think my grammer is bad ok i'll let you belive that but isn't this post about how 8 year olds are not mature enough to play runescape. So lets get on topic instead of your usless bad attitude(even so you are entitled to say anything you want on this forum) i never said that quote. i think you need to edit your post. :shame:
  5. to be honest i wouldn't mind seeing a lot of merchants fall. not all of them...but there are a lot that i've come across that should just give it up. sometimes merchants are very useful to me. if i want to buy a bulk amount of raw materials, but don't want to waste the time getting it myself then merchants can come in very handy as they do the legwork for me. i don't mind paying a little extra in price for this. there were a number of times i'd come back with a duplicate armour or weapons from barrows that i didn't want. it could be a real pain sometimes trying to sell just one piece barrows as most players only wanted to buy full sets. i had no problem selling to a barrows merchant for a reasonable price. but there are some instances that i've come across some very rude, pushy, and lazy "merchants" in the game that only want to offer a ripoff price. they know its a ripoff price and they start getting pushy hoping to pressure you into trading with "noob its only worth 'x' much" and my favorite "HURRY!!! I GOTTA GO SOON!!!" those type of merchants tend to get too greedy and use pushy and dirty tactics in the hopes that some poor kid will cave in and not know any better. i remember one time i was selling an item on the forums and a player contacted me about buying but refused to pay my price...ok so we haggled and came to an agreement on a price (good merchanting) then he told me to come to him to sell. well, he was in world 2 fally and of course it's full, so i tell him he'd have to come to me. he then tells me he is going to have to charge me a "fee" for having to leave world 2 to come to me (bad merchanting...greedy) finally, i said "you came to me looking to buy and then you don't even want to pay what i wanted...and now you want to charge a "fee" to come here to trade? forget it" these are the types of merchants i could care less if they fell off of the face of the earth. this is the reason i almost cringe if i have to buy or sell something on the forums...because i almost always run into a few of these types. i don't merchant myself. i never tried it so i wouldn't know how good or bad i am at it. my own personal reasoning is that i don't pay real money and play a game so that i can spend all day trying to make fake money...especially since that's not the game's purpose. that's just my own personal method of playing. if you choose to merchant that is your choice. i wouldn't exactly call it a skill in the game either. it's a service that's provided to the community of players. you don't have to do a quest or gain a certain skill. it's just a player to player service. that's all really. you watch forums and stand in trade worlds watching prices all day. you find a median price to buy under and sell over. seems pretty straight forward to me. i don't care how pretty your forum thread looks if i have to read 3 pages i tend to move on because i've noticed the prices then to be out of any range i normally look for. also...as far as skills...i've come across a few merchants who seriously lack in people skills. am i jealous? nope. you are doing something that at times from the right person i might appreciate...but it's not something i would want pick up and start doing. am i envious? nope. i couldn't care less how much gold you have. i bought a couple of rares once because someone told me they were a good investment. i got tired of seeing them in my bank. every time i put one on i got unwanted attention from the wrong type of players. it wasn't worth it to me so i sold them. i always keep myself "poor" now because i tend to spend it on skills. i might not always use the most efficient money making methods in the game...but that's because i guess i find different aspects of the game more fun than you. edit: i rambled. sorry
  6. well...no you're not stupid...though a title like that is going to bring you some very unwelcome comments here. lol. but in the future you should think about not selling your rune med for 10k. he wanted to buy them off of you because he can high alch them for about 11.5k and make a quick profit. i think he was just mad because he couldn't take advantage of this or you again. don't worry about it so much.
  7. i think of them more of a nuisance really. rc pkers are just annoying skillers is all. they are trying to kill a player they pretty much know isn't going to fight back and can barely even defend themselves as they are already skulled with no prayer and usually not carrying items to fight with. even if the skiller does suit up and come back for a fight the rc pker 9 times out of 10 runs anyways. most aren't looking for a fight. they're looking for easy loot. like i said tho...they annoy me but i don't hate them with all my might. the abyss is in the wildy and the rc pker is meant to be an obstacle. i can't really defend them either. they're just ambushing skillers and hope you don't fight back. what did annoy me was the update that made pvp combat override player vs npc combat. i've heard alot say it was a cheap tactic, but if i'm using the abyss...i'm already skulled with no prayer and not looking to fight. the abyss is in the wildy...but the skiller wasn't meant to be cannon fodder for the pker....the pker was meant to be an obstacle for the skiller.
  8. as far the rumor method goes i wouldn't put too much stock in what posts like these say. the "i heard from a very secret, yet reliable source" method isn't presenting any numbers from personal experience. i've had some players...err...reliable sources...tell me that they've managed to get a visage in their first 25 kills while others have racked over 3k kills with nothing.
  9. it will take quite a bit of playing to kill 800 black dragons a week with 77 range. i was killing about 20-25 an hour i think. so by that estimate that would be 36 hours of killing black dragons in a week. of course i saved all of my hides and bones out of it. as far as drop rates i'm not so sure either. all i know is that ive killed about 700+ black dragons so far and no visage yet :(
  10. so that's all, huh. you wanted to know where i was coming from and i quoted your own words. the response to that is basically "oh that....ya...i was just kidding." i've actually seen players with this kind of behaviour in the game tho. when people talk about how Runescape community is going downhill that is exactly the type of incidents that i think about. but hey...it was all meant for you to be funny and had no value whatsoever. i guess so all this boils down to is another rant about how underage kids are ruining the game (even tho you even said within this thread that you were underage when you made your account.) fine. i didn't get the joke. guess it just wasn't as funny as George Carlin.
  11. this is some more of your "swearing promotional parade"
  12. this is what i have a problem with. to me this answers your "when was i going on a swearing promotional parade?" question. obviously this was completely inappropriate. this was just you being obnoxious. now i'm not being a nazi about this. i don't go out of my way to report every little infraction within the game, but i probably would've reported this one. this is being out of line with the kid. you are just harassing them into logging off after the player asked you to stop and gave you a good reason. this is what i mean about being MATURE and that this isn't your game and your turf. now if the issue was simply about the censor and swearing...i probably wouldn't have even posted a reply. this statement pushed my buttons. like i said before...i swear too. most of the time if i'm playing i'm listening to an uncensored comedy station. i know some pretty good dirty jokes that i will share with my friends, but i won't approach a group of people that i don't know and spout them off. someone might not want to hear it. someone might even (god forbid) get offended. if i did and someone asked me to stop....i would stop. i do it out of RESPECT. if i keep on it's called harassment. that's what the above quote shows in your actions. I DON"T CARE IF THE KID WAS 4 YEARS OLD!!! you should've had enough respect to stop. i'm in my late twenties and if i had asked you stop that should've been the end of it. take it to pm or clan chat or somewhere else. on a side story when i played football as a kid the coach said something to me i didn't like, so i responded with a smart remark that had some swearing in it. coach grabbed me by my faceguard (american football i might have to clarify) so fast and slung me to the ground. he then got in my face so bad that the spit off of all the evil and nasty stuff he was saying to me was hitting me in my eye. i then spent the rest of practice doing sprints. when i got home and told my momma about it do you know what she said? "well you probably deserved it. maybe next time you will know better to keep your mouth shut." momma was right. learn to be a little more respectful to the people around you next time.
  13. i do not agree really with what you are saying. i was mining iron in f2p once and some snotnose starting swearing at me. he was intentionally going around the censor so that he could spell it out and let me know exactly what he was saying (FU). i reported him and told him that if he were going to talk like that to me then i'll assume that he'll talk like that to my daughter. i don't have one...but he got my point anyways. the point was that if this punk was in my face and said what he said to me i would've gladly broken his nose for him. all i can do is use the report button for him. you couldn't get away with talking to people like that on the street for very long. so there should be no consequences here? i get that some ppl use profanity in their circle of friends as normal everyday talk. i do it too. but there is a time and a place for where that is appropriate and not. if you walk into some shopping stores with your buddy for instance...and are being obnoxious and cursing at each other from across the aisles...eventually you are going to be asked to leave. it is their property. same here...you're on jagex's turf, pal, not yours. you have to play a little by the rules or get out. if you're having a casual conversation with your friend somewhere where other players are around...the polite thing is to use that language in private or on your clan chat. but no....instead you start harassing other players who politely asked you to stop. and you want to talk about maturity, little kid? i really don't know where you get this idea that by becoming the ripe old age of 13 suddenly gives you a license to do whatever you want whenever you want and anywhere you please. that's being a selfish little punk in my opinion. the 13 and over rule is not just so that we can have violent and profane content either. it's also a hope that by that age you can learn to act in a decent and responsible manner within a community without parental supervision to keep you from being disruptive. i think some ppl have the idea that being an "adult" means bloody gore, violence, sex, and despicable language. most of us begin to learn manners and what is socially acceptable on the playground in preschool. if you want to talk about maturity lvl...it sounds like you have a long ways to go my friend.
  14. i do believe that f2p deserve a few things, such as skillcapes...hey...if you got a 99 in something...f2p or not...you earned it. and maybe a little more bank space wouldn't hurt..on the other hand...you get no new updates or extra items that need storing so we're back in a circle. well..i'd have to disagree with you on this point. we are paying for the game and therefore do deserve more. that's what we're paying for. lol. there isn't any problem with being f2p. i completely understand what you're saying about not wanting to commit to this game....especially since this isn't even the main game you play. you have to understand tho...the members are paying for the updates and therefore are entitled to them. you are right that most members wouldn't have bought membership if they didn't start out on f2p. but as far jagex is concerned f2p is their version for window shoppers...hoping you will come inside. when i lost my membership for awhile i had received a message stating that my membership had run out but that i was still able to "play the demo version of the game." that's what it boils down to i suppose. i don't agree with what some players have been posting here. things like why are you complaining you're not paying for the game blahblahblah. i do believe members need to be a little more grateful for the f2p worlds. LOTS of resources get transferred back and forth between members and free players. i'm not talking about bots either. lots of free players mine and sell ores to members just for one example. and if i get a rune item i'm usually heading to f2p to trade it off as it is much more valuable there. same thing with my lobbies. some players do need to stop thumbing their noses and treating them as freeloaders. they are a part of the system.
  15. ya..food was nowhere near as healthy as it is today. now if you are wounded, sick, or just plain feelin bad we can go to McDonalds! they don't call them Happy Meals for nothing!!!
  16. We pay $5 a month to craft better things that's why you paid for membership? to make battlestaffs? well...they are still in the game...and there is an opportunity to gain a lot more then before. all you have to do is a quest and complete the varrocks diary...but then again...that's not why you paid for membership is it?
  17. a long time ago i was making a pure (that i eventually gave up on cuz i stink at pking) about lvl 22 or so and i was maging scorpions in f2p. a lvl 25 came up and began harassing me. stupid noob....what's your mage lvl noob....etc all i could do was laugh because i assumed this kid was so happy to find someone under him to try and pick on. i kept my mouth shut tho and was ignoring him. he kept on... i'm talking to you noob! answer me you stupid noob! geez...noobs these days i finally said "look at you. you're a lvl 25. i started this account 3 days ago and by tomorrow i will be a higher lvl than you. what gives you the credentials to call me a noob?" he never responded and walked away. if you let something as trivial as this get to you then you won't survive. don't let them suck the enjoyment out of the game for you. i've been called much worse in the game and in real life.
  18. if the hill giants are too strong for you at your current lvl i suggest training on something a little easier for you, such as the kalphite queen or bandos which make excellent drops. if you are bold and daring you can take trips to the wildy and confront the chaos element or KBD which make excellent training spots. then, once you have trained up sufficiently, you can come back to hill giants and hopefully they won't pose much of a threat anymore. good luck!
  19. i personally enjoy the shop update. if i bought my eye of newts in port sarim i'd always see a bot in there buying out deaths. i'd always report it. there are a few things that i have worked around, but i guess i should consider myself grateful that i didn't depend on all of my income coming from the shops. the author mentions battlestaffs...ever since the update i gained a few crafting lvls. for me personally i find it easier to get battlestaffs now....of course i do understand that lvl 3 varrock armour helps. now i get 64 battlestaffs a day all for 7k ea...and have another shop that stock 20 at a time. that was so much better than only two shops that stocked 5 battlestaff each. even days after the update jagex was fixing and adjusting prices (such as the chocolate bombs for 160.) to say they are not paying attention to YOU and your water vial or feather business, etc. because you are a paying customer is a bit naive and selfish. i do believe jagex is paying attention to the community as a whole and the game they have developed while trying to address a problem that has been persisting for some time. this game will always have new updates. some you wil enjoy. some you won't. either you roll with the punches and make it work for you or you will be left behind in the dust posting on the rants forums your reasons to hate jagex. all in all i thought this was a very good article
  20. ^ya he's lost any crediblility with his rant now by doing this.
  21. yay! i just made it into the no life category. i didn't think i would make it, but with hard work, breaking up with my girlfriend, and stopped answering the phone or going to work...i finally did it. i was looking for an accurate meter. i finally found it
  22. Really? I thought every serious gamer found runescape the same way I did....MiniClip.
  23. Eh, no. In Castle Wars, is the size of your levels and equipment, screw your heart. hey! that's my hallmark card line. :(
  24. i saw the point of your rant. lol. i have a competitive personality. i want to win at whatever i'm doing....even if there's no competition i still want to be the best. i'm sorry but i just can't change that part of me. i'm thinking you might share a similar personality. that's why i stay away from games like cw which relies on a team working together on a strategy, because you will always end up with one leeroy jenkins in the bunch who is gonna do it his/her own way and everybody on the team ends up paying. the comment that followed about i'm this lvl cuz i have a life lost you some points tho. kinda derogatory. remember! its not the size of your levels! it's the size of your heart!
  25. hahaha...look at the nub ranting on the forums. i'm kidding, friend! lol i really hate that some players tend to think they are better than everyone else and that their (cabbage) doesn't stink. i'm sorry that you have been treated this way. IMO your skill lvls does not make you the noob....the players that feel they have to cut someone else down and act immature to me are being noobs. just remember...not all of us members are like that! just ignore them and move on. don't let them get to you
