Okay...I was wrong, but the "bug" still works.
oddfaery2 replied to Myweponsg00d's topic in General Discussion
who said killing dragons in any manner was bug abuse? I overlooked it I guess. Only thing I saw was his analogy to dragon and wyverns. The problem with this analogy is that dragons and wyverns are completely different creatures. Anybody can fight a dragon, no slayer level or specific items are said to be REQUIRED to do so. Dragonfire shields are only a strong suggestion... and only necessary if you intend to fight dragons for a long period of time. (I'd love to see how many iron dragons you kill without an antifire shield) Some slayer monsters, UNLIKE dragons, have REQUIRED items in order to fight or kill them. Obviously the shield is meant to be required if it is on the list, so I don't see how this thread is any different than the people complaining when Jagex fixed the guthix rest bug while they were solo-ing the KQ with it. If the shield is on the required items list, you should've been playing as if the bug didn't exist. -
anybody having that problem should just give me some of it to hold... I'll take good care of it ;)

Only reason you have to be angry they didn't announce it is if you were (technically) abusing a bug. If you'd been fighting them with the elemental shield like the manual says is necessary, then you would've never had this problem. Surely by now you had to have seen that the shield is required for them... did you NOT expect it to get fixed at SOME point? learned the technique? Sounds like you knew it was a bug when you went to try it... As for testing... have you ever coded before? With as many variables as Jagex has, it is VERY likely that at least one possible combination gets overlooked. They do test their releases beforehand, and obviously they take care of most the problems before they come out. But many updates will have some minor bug (sometimes major) in them that they need to fix. It's just like when a level 3 could wield dragon axe. I'm sure they were testing against much more serious bugs such as how hard it hits, how much the special drains, how fast it cuts, etc as opposed to is some level 3 going to try to wield it. That's a mistake that shouldn't have happened, so it got overlooked in testing. point being, as long as these have been out, you should've at least known the shield was supposed to be a requirement. Even if you just got the appropriate slayer level, it's pretty standard for players to check what random item they need before they ever go. And if you were trying to find a "technique" that made you not need the shield, you had what was coming. -
Jagex has implied that the new magic secateurs from the Fairy Tale quest will increase yields from farming. While some have supported this, others say it is untrue. Perhaps they only affect allotments, rather than herbs. To test this, I have been doing herbs every time my nature ammy goes off when I'm grinding my bones. Here are my results: Herbs picked with... Secateurs: No Secateurs: 9 X (dead) 6 10 7 7 5 (no compost) 5 5 X (dead) X (dead) 8 7 7 11 5 8 7 6 5 8 5 5 7 X (dead) 7 7 6 5 X (dead) 7 8 7 5 6 7 8 X (dead) 6 5 5 6 8 7 9 7 7 X (dead) 8 9 6 9 Successful Crops: 24/26 21/26 Total Herbs: 166 (+17%) 142 Avg Herbs/Living crop: 6.9 (+3%) 6.7 As you can see, at least from my herb tests, that the average herb/living crop is only +3% higher in 26 tests. This is hardly enough to suggest significant difference without a larger sample. It does seem possible that the secateurs DID keep more plants alive, however. Only lost 2/26 crops WITH secateurs, but lost 5/26 without. Thus resulting in 17% more herbs with the secateurs than without. Does this suggest that the secateurs affect whether or not a plant will live, or is this just coincidence? Let's see your tests ;) Here is another test: Any tests you submit can help us know what % increases to expect with the use of secateurs.

as others said, you have always needed an elemental shield to fight them. You just got lucky he hit 0s on you at all, I suppose. -

What (good) question would YOU ask a top 5 player?
oddfaery2 replied to oddfaery2's topic in General Discussion
while they are most undoubtedly wealthy in RS, i doubt most the top players would have the resources to buy all that many rares... most their money, as they see it, would be better spent immediately on skills... I could be wrong, but even if their bank is worth 2-3 bil, that would only go so far. -
Do NOT use ring of wealth when getting pouches
oddfaery2 replied to daver's topic in General Discussion
why were you even fighting them when you needed a small pouch instead of getting a free replacement from the dark mage first? -
Magic Secateurs - What is their function?
oddfaery2 replied to zsandmann's topic in General Discussion
no offense, but if you only did 3 crops, you can't really say there's significant evidence about whether or not they have an effect. To make a good analysis, you'd need at least 20-30 tests with similar settings (e.g. same type of crop, same type of compost, etc). I have been doing herbs in the midst of my prayer efforts, and here's what I've come up with while using the secateurs (I only use 3 plots): 9 6 7 Watermelons: 19 5 (no compost) 5 X (dead) 7 11 8 6 8 5 - (diseased, left for next run) 7 5 7 7 6 8 6 watermelons: 10 5 8 9 7 8 6 5 --- Ruling out the crop where I forgot compost (or lag kept my click from working... ****), this gives me an average of 6.9 herbs per plot while using secateurs. -
very very nice work enjoi. You made me work for about an extra hour on guide updating tonight... dunno if that's good or bad lol. You've more than earned your name on the Thanks To section of our guide. Hopefully it'll be uploaded soon.

I really don't think that if it maxes out at 200m that it would ruin very many people's objectives. Sure, being #1 in rank is nice, but how many people are going that far to do it? Not many. Most players, even in the top handful, don't even have 200m total xp, much less that much in a single skill.

wasn't there already a thread on this... wouldn't this belong in rants? I really hate when people can't post in the right forums....

will the 99 stat be the limit for all skills PERMANENTLY?
oddfaery2 replied to adunakhor's topic in General Discussion
they've been making several skills easier and easier. I'd imagine if they were to raise levels that they wouldn't necessarily adjust the leveling system, but would adjust the rate of xp you can get. It would be a major revamp if they ever did this, and tons of things would change... RS3 perhaps? :P -
Losing everything kinda kills your motivation to play... but that's no reason to quit entirely. take a break and you'll probably want to get back going again. After I got keylogged I didn't play for about a month, but I came back and got my character back in shape :D

That would make my job with tip.it pretty hard lol... I don't see how it's obscene... it's just a picture of my character doing the emote... so if anything is obscene about it, bug Jagex :P Pff probably. My woman's good enough that I don't need a pole dancer. (she doesn't cost anything either :D)

oddfaery2 replied to oddfaery2's topic in General Discussion
Everyone is asking that question.. but I know the answer for Zezima... he plays 25 hours a day  Id like to ask why you have a title that says researcher then post baseless accusations. he was clearly joking lol... 25/24 hours a day... -

some good stuff so far. keep 'em coming -
enjoi, if you get challenges from the higher champions, perhaps post the pictures of the challenge scrolls, the rules, and a good pic of them while not attacking? (level too if you get :P) Who knows... perhaps jagex hasn't even released the others yet... you may be the first to Leon!

what i really love about the game is that no matter what level you are, if somebody starts acting high and mighty and trash talking, and then come to realize that, although your combat may be lower, your skills and xp far exceed them, they always blame it on the fact that you have no life... but they do... It's really amusing... especially when you consider the fact that you may play half as much as them, and have just played longer or made better use of your time (in regards to leveling, at least).

too slow for my tastes... I average 700k an hour the way I mine rune. And that's with an average of 10 minutes of things i get distracted by (worldhopping bores me)
