  1. Seems alot of people using assist to get their RC xp up, maybe I can meet some famous F2p there at world 16? lol Anyone think if the new graphic update might be for F2p? if thats the case, it would be awesome (but honestly, dont think that will happen)
  2. Keep in mind that most computer users don't really know their computer specs that well, but here is some tips to know if you can run the full screen mode. CPU requirement is usually not a concern since if your CPU speed is higher than 1.5Ghz (I guess either Celeron, P4, or Core 2 duo, or AMD) will definately run it. Ram: Most computer have 1 Gig standard ram, so that shouldn't be a concern (unless you have a shared video card, which drains it) Most computer that runs Xp have 1gig, the ones with Vista usually have 2 Gig Video card: I think this is THE MOST important part, basically, to put it in a simple term, if you have a intel chip stated, then it's probably not enough to run it, so I always look for ATI or Nvidia, if you have ATI or Nvidia on the go (for laptops or some desktop), then its slightly better, but not much (with the exception of new ones like Nvidia 7000m or newer ATI ones x1200, maybe better?). If you have video cards has its own memory 128, 256, 512mb, and does not drain your main Ram memory, then it should be discrete (its own memory source) Keep in mind that even if you do meet the requirement, and you like to run things in the background, you might have alot of laggy situations. My gaming experience sometimes lag when something is updating in the background, like anti virus softwares. My computer specs is 2.6 P4, with 1Gig of ram, and 9800 Pro 128mb, but it actually lag sometimes when I ran RS because, I am using wireless, and wirelss will hamper alot of online gaming exp, and if your computer have some odd things installed (junk program, and what not) it will tend to slow down the computer as well. Most game titles nowadays have minimum requirement, and recommended requirement, I dont really know if the requirment Jagex released is minimum or recommended, but if your spec meet borderline of it, then its best to clean out your computer (those junk softwares, and useless toolbars), and program do a system defrag, and clean our your internet temp files. To ensure smooth gaming experience, and knowing alot of people's computer are buggy (crashes often for no reason) might want to look into repairing or reinstalling OS first (back up all files of course) Those are my own opinions, so again, might not be entirely accurate. PS: Computer are pretty cheap nowaday, 700 to 800 budget could get you to a moderate computer, but again, to spend all that when you get a good computer that already doing all the stuff seems abit excessive, then again, thats why there is hardcore gamers spending at least 2k on their computer (I should know, I spend 20 bucks for a mousepad, and 65 bucks for a gaming mouse, and they are only "moderate" in first person shooting ability, dont know how that will help my RS training, lol, at least it helps if you play CS or other shooting games)
  3. Hmmm, I didn't know Funorb games can be run at full screen for P2P only. I guess this new graphic update could only be run full screen in RS as well (otherwise, where would they fit the ads for F2p? lol). I wish Jagex could shed some light whether or not if F2p can run it full screen as well. Other than that, the new graphic update looks very well done.
  4. Hmm, thats a really big let down, with 2 months of post being lost like, in any case, here is a bump to keep the post going, and thanks to Jake and Aura managing the list
  5. Long response, so bear with me here (and again, its my own opinion, so no need to get defensive here) Its a very detailed analysis of the air running system there, and I am sure alot of people who trains RC by air running, or even law and nat running got stumped by the new restriction. Just my 2 bits here, its very good system for both runners and air crafter to gain good amount of cash, but then again, doing RC to lvl 99 for a F2P is still Possible just take quite a longer time. Just for some rough math break down, this is how long it would take doing the conventional way without air runners if you start at lvl 1 rc, you would need to turn 2.6mil ess in total into airs that would mean if you can rc 3 to 4 k of ess into airs per day, u should get rc to lvl 99 in about 625 days, so we are looking at 2 years roughly (thats if you spend 4 hrs or more per day just to train RC) Many people would say, wow, thats like 2500 hrs of playing time, which is alot. Way before many people use runners, if you look at many f2p's rc skill, its always the lowest, anyone with 50 or higher are consider to be high, and for the first time, the previous rank 1 f2p have 97 rc, which stands out for all the top f2pers out there. I happen to meet him during his RC training one day at fally, and he was walking back and forth for a long time just for that single day (I left for Fally to train at ice cave that day, he is there, 4 hrs later, I came back, he is still there......walking back and forth, though not talking much). I used to think RC is hard for F2P too, because it is pure grueling walk without the benefit of abyss and pouches, but then the air runners idea came out and people start to utilize it more so it becomes more of a "trade" skill instead, you trade me, and I trade you, and I stay there type msgs all day long. Some people I talked to says that the current rank 1 f2p is lucky because he got his rc to 99 before the restriction cap came out, again, its all open to debate there. But if it was me, I probably give more respect for the previous rank 1 simply he did the grueling work of walking back and forth which make F2P rc hard in the first place (someone told me u can get close to 1mil xp in a week using runners, not sure if its true), which I am sure someone could argue that its pointless to click so many times to run back and forth when you can train more "efficiently" by using runners This is not to berate that rcing using air runners is a cheap way to get rc 99, both parties get benefits, the runners, and the air crafters, but just to my own view, F2p is suppose to be hard for its grueling way and more conventional way of training, and now I look at the F2p top list again, some of them seems to jumped during those few months by utilizing that method. But it kind of lose the old meaning that F2P training is hard (I made simliar post before regarding training using speed lvl compare to old ways training). When it boils down to the parts, the xp is all the same, no one would know if you speed train or not. Overall, I do respect the author of this post raise awareness of educate people about things in those aspect, it would certainly make alot of new players life easier to earn more cash compare to other methods before. If you RC all the airs by yourself during the 2 years time, you could use those cash you earn from airs to buy cowhides, big bones, and other items to get your other skill 99 since you will most likely have massive amount of airs (I didn't do math on that part since its exponential), but you can speed up the training abit by using fally tele once you done crafting airs in air altar.) Which will make you train rc and magic at same time. I used to think F2P is hard to, but after some time, I noticed some skills are essentially the same between F2P and P2p, you could get some skills up really fast if you speed train, so the distinction between the training speed of P2p and F2p is kind of blurred.
  6. Interesting note where one of the recent post also mention players regret the time they spend on RS could be contribute to something better in RL. So not much in blaming RS or anything, simply, it is their choice to dedicate their own time to RS. and like some other players mentioned, you will need to face the consequences of your action later. In my own view, you can train alot while you are still in school, but once you go into real world where job, and many other things concern over this game. The time spend on RS dimishes (not saying that sounds like a bad things, of course, there is always transitions to things as life progresses) My own RS quote "No matter how much you wish to accomplish in RS, Reality will catch you in the end"
  7. Side notes: Of course, we dont' know what will happen once some updates like the restriction trade come into effect next year. In terms of RWT, and the dramatic reduction of bots in P2p and F2p worlds should promote some players gathering resources again compare to before. There really wont be any distinction if the F2P will make any larger contribution or not, only time will tell.
  8. Side notes: High school is generally ok in terms of school work, unless you load yourself with extra activities. (Or choose to do special academic programs) University/ college is not bad too, the only downsides would be that you are pretty much in control of your own time, and procrastination is usually a big problem. (Assume you dont fall asleep in lecture, and you do listen to your prof talking, and you dont skip lectures, and you do all the assign readings, quizzes, and reports) Basically, with proper time management, you can do well in both parts if you manage tasks into smaller chunks, instead of cramming everything in 12 to 24 hours before that assignment or exam is due. Then again, this is just my own view, and it DOES NOT represent other high school or post secondary students' profile
  9. From my own experience, it really depend on the time you contribute to RS and time management is the key. I started playing RS during my University years, and it actually help somewhat because I like to train skills and read my assigned textbook readings at the same time. Since both of them tend to bore me out, I figure why not do both things at once to kill 2 birds with one stone. When I am bored of textbook, I would chat with friends in RS, when I am alone, I would go back and read again (saying that, only WC and Fishing works best, hard to train combat skill when you kill monsters, I have to look up every 10 seconds because the moster i train with dies fast). Of course, thats just coming reading textbook, other parts such as midterms and finals, and assignments do need 100 percent focus on it, so no RS during those time. I acutally read a similar post where people say that they can be more constructive if they dont play RS before, anything to some degree, can be addictive if you do it too much, not just pointing all the blame to RS, I know some people who immerse themselves like Counterstrike and other online games, if they leave RS, they will move on to other things that pre occupied their free time (but again, you might find something else constructive to do as well). I guess you can always go volunteer, find a part time job, or spend more time on homework, and of coures, everyone will approve of that since its "contructive" to your real life. I guess people who are long term RS veteran players often wonder what they might do if they spend all their RS time in RL instead. Also, what will happen to the friends and things you learn in RS? Through RS, I learn more concept of ecnomy, and did find some good friends where our discussion is not limited to RS but RL as well. One of my RS friend who able to do well in University (A- average), doing a part time job, and go out clubbing with friends, and play other online game all together. He still manage to train his RS guy well, because he trains it more smartly, more effciently than other players, he make up efficent training method because he doesn't want to spend too much time on RS. There is little to aruge about things that already passed, its like saying that if I can get 10 marks higher in my exam, I would have make a difference with my grades. The end result is the choice that you made when u at that crossroad, depend on the path you choose, lead to different result. Perhaps you can learn from this experience and refresh your own time management skills, and make better use of your time.
  10. 123Yourgone wrote "In my oppinion you should keep your oppinion to yourself, couse no one here wants to hear it" Everyones' opinions and analysis is an IMPORTANT contribution to this thread since thats the main theme of this topic (to contribute your opinions, and let others knows about it), so lets not start another senseless argument here by making negative comments about other peoples's post.
  11. The point of the topic again is what other people think when it comes to training method, some people acknowledge certain ones while some dont, and again, there is no right or wrong way to truly said one method is the "right" one. As others said before, train the longer conventional way with more clicks doesn't mean its efficicent. on the other hand, train it with more effcient way and faster xp dont get recognized by others. Its all really based on personal perception, and what it really come down to the point of this post: That your opinion and input on this matter could make others on the other sides (those who believe in power lvl, and those believe in traditional lvl, those who believe both) to understand many different views. In essence, everyones contribuition to the post will provide a summary of what this topic is about.
  12. The topic indeed was a bit hard (or confusing) to start with since I know everyone will have different interpretation to it. In my own word, the question would be something like: What is the right training method that is consider to be the true method (as people tend to approve, or rather recongize a skill when it becomes hard work vs fast xp) To reiterate some points, it would be something like this. Both Player A and player B start training cooking, Player B train the conventional way, fishing or making his own food for example, to get lvl 99 cooking and this also consider that you are not just fishing, cooking, and dumping the fish (you also need to bank the fish too) at the same time, so nothing is wasted This could mean that you are training the skills without getting rid of the resources that you collect, if you toss the materails away just to get the xp, you are just getting a "number", (some might argue, all you want is the xp and look good on highscore table) Player A, trains the faster way, he went to players or GE buy tons of raw lobs and repeatly cook them and sell them back, basically, some people consider it as "buying" xp, (hence cooking was actually harder skill to train before cook x comes out, since u have to click at each raw food indiviually). In the past, before cook x comes out, cooking food does take a while, so cooking was considered a hard skill (and at that time, highscore table did prove that point), but when cook x comes out, cooking become nothing more than repeately clicking with roughly 25 seconds of rest in between. Some might say that power lvling cheapen the skills (another post discuss the value behind cooking and fletching, why some people dont consider them as an achievement), because you are just getting the xp as fast as you can, and you are not getting the real fun out of it. Again the advantage and disadvantages between the speed and value of raising a skill become blurred. The point of my post is again to see what the interpretations were, and see if people can provide points to "clear" up some ambiguity, and having reading this far, I did get some valuable reponse from other players which certainly changes my mind about the outlook on this aspect of training. Overall, when you look up on someone on the highscore table, you wont really know if they power train to get the skills or not, when the xp is there, its there, and it would be hard to prove or disprove that which type they train, and again, as so many other point out, there is no "right way" to train, it is more than of preference or personal choice. Like I said before this is no right or wrong in the discussion, more so on providing your own point of view so others can read and ponder about something they didn't thought of.
  13. Thanks for everyones' input on this matter, and again, to those who manage to read through the whole post to give constructive points to this thread.
  14. Before post, think about the point of this thread for a second, and try to be constructive by giving essential points or personal experience, there isn't a right or wrong arugment surround this kind of topic, nor should we try create a 2 sided war. Its again simply to let people express their views and understand this topic better. When you train in RS, at some point you will see some people doing some unusual ways of training, after a through investigation, you realize that some people rather want the fast xp to get their desired lvl. With that being said, perhaps this is one of the more controversial topic (at least I think), what is the style you train, and does it considered to be true training? To give examples, something like this. Cooking, buy large amount of raw food, and cook all of them to get cooking xp, and selling back the cooked food. Or, gather your own raw materials, like fish or ingredient and cook them yourself. Fishing and mining, fish trout and salmon, mine the iron, either dropping them on the ground or sell to store Woodcutting and and firemaking, cutting willow logs or yew logs to burn or simply sell to store. (Firemaking might be abit of gray area, again, it would be interesting to see what others say about it when it combine with wc) Runecrafting: acutally walk by yourself to make the runes, or use runners Simply put, all these method of training does give you fast xp, but do they considered to be "grinding" where one doing the repetive task to achieve the goal that they want? Does bank the raw materials and sell later to be consider true method of training? PS: Some of the training method might not apply to certain special characters such as pures or skillers, but its hard to make the generalization sometimes. Again, many points have not been covered yet, and thats is the POINT of this thread, so before you make hasty comment about this thread, try to think about it for a sec and post your response in more constructive manners. To be continue..........
  15. Accomplishment doesn't come in a day or 2, any kind of challenge, whether it was first to kill a new monsters, first to get the highest xp or lvl, first to get the new item, or what not, tend to leave an impression on people on RS. The comment I like to make is simply refer to the part of top players, most people view them and perceived them differently. I guess more so on the point where those players did the "impossibles" (or near impossible) as others "perceived" In truth, not only you need to spend the time to reach the top, but you also have to spend the time to "stay" at top. Time Washes away everything, as people quit RS, and new people join, names will always be remembered and forgotened when time passes and new skills arises, these manage to stay on top of the list are also (in my own opinion) "survivors", they stick to the game and manage to stay on the top. But this isn't saying that the people who quits the game are quitters, it just means that they have move on to some other things in their life, and its a perfect sense whenther they wish to remain as a top RS players or not is really their decision. Thinking back some point in their life, they will remember (so does others) that part of the time what they were once able to achieve.
  16. Its good when everyone is contributing their honest opinion regarding this matter. So I guess I will just give some personal opinion as well, in fact most of them have been covered by many others contribute to this post so far The term arises several time when I train at several places, observing and of course my own experience. People tend to ask how long you have been playing when they see you are a high combat or skill lvl (of course, they might as if you have been a member or not, that tend to speed things up abit). Mostly, if you manage to train fast (compare to a norm, depend on how many hrs), people tend to think you spend alot of time beside computer doing nothing but a repetitive tasks and ignore anything else around you. Mainly, some jump straight to conclusion that high lvl equals time on RS more, and people tend to make nasty comments to provoke other players. But all they see is your combat and skill, and never think beyond other factors which might contribute to this achievement such as good time management long term dedication to the game Efficient training style And hopefully, the points provide by others on this post will let other players know, apperances dont explain alot of things, no point to judge someone by their lvls, but instead focus on whats important to you, keep balance in your life, and respect a player not just by their lvls, but how they treat others.
  17. This also bring up the parts where what do you have to do to remain at the top. Namely, the one that used to be famous before they retire from RS
  18. Nice summary and thoughts there, guys, all very true and valid points
  19. Additional time break down, side notes to no lifer definition 24 Hours in a day, so 8 or 7 is auto deducted for sleep that leaves youabout 16 to 15 hours for daily activities assume we spend 6 to 8 hours for either education or job (I would say mostly education due to the target audience of this game) Eating and showering, and going to the bathroom probably take about 1 to 2 hours per day (its kind of funny, but I just want to address as one) You still got about 8 to 6 hours left for social, entertainment, and other events outside of school and job environment. So the remaining time would probably be the potential RS time to train, then again, it applies to weekday, weekends probably longer....but again, as personal preferences, some might deem 1 hr or RS is enough, while other deem 2 to 3 hrs or RS is moderate.
  20. As many people start to address the common points to be defined as no lifer, and those are good points, but lets look deeper into the meaning of no lifer. When we saw a high combat lvl player, first reaction would be probably Wow, and then we check them out on highscore and look at their total lvls, you either go oh, mmm, not bad, or second WOW. Now we all know that to obtain those lvls, you need to be dedicated to your character, you can train one by the following factors Train fast, and long hours during short period of time (over the span of few months or weeks) Train moderately, but a long term player (over the span of few years) Or the combination of both Now if there is a way to tell how many hours that a player spent on their character in a summary sheet, that would be great, like how many hours in total in number of week, years, months, and days But people always get the assumption that high lvl players tend to have no life when it comes to their high lvl simply because the amount of xp they have in relfection of how long they train....... to be continue....
  21. To start things off, I guess at some point in someone's RS adventure, we were all common lvl 3 players, fresh off the tutorial island and into the world of Runescape through Lumbridge. People start exploring all the possible option that the RS world offers, people start to set up goals for themselves because they see potentials in what they can become. But as more people start playing, a group of elites start to appear, they stood out as their lvls progress faster then anyone else, and start to gain recognition as the highscore table pulished their accomplishment even more. But to be defined as one of the best, is it due the amount of xp and lvl 99s you have in total? the number of players you pked in wildy (win vs lost), the first to achieve a skill? (first to smithing 99, craft 99, atk 99, etc), first to get 200mil xp in a single skill, or first to get prayer 99 in F2P? Or simply due to other action thats not related to skills that make people remember you as part of the RS history? Of course, feat can also be bad ones, such as players who abuse the construction bug during 666 events, on world 111. Though such action would be deem as bad, but people remembered those who participate in the act, and they too, become part of the history or RS.
  22. As a reflection post on the best/top player thread, this post also address one of the common problem high skill or combat lvl players faced when someone is in a disagreement with what they achieved through out the years. Post your opinions, and see what other thinks
  23. We all know some famous RS players because the incredible feats they acomplished over the years, but what exactly do you need to be one? Or simply, is it a label that someone place on you because of your original goals? Post here to express your opinion on the matter and see what everyone else thinks This post would refer to famous P2Pers and F2Pers
  24. Again, when people read the title of this thread, I am sure alot of people will have mixed feeling about it, so just to reiterate. In MY OWN OPINION, and this does not express everyone's opinion in F2P or P2P F2Pers DONT need more update, because its good and sustainable in its own ways (same for Member worlds, but they will get more updates since they are the one thats paying for it), if both side have no intereraction to each other, 2 sides would be fine once the another wave of rants and complains die down. We dont pay for the game contents, we are playing RS and keeping it F2P side alive by watching the ad to keep our F2P worlds online, and if thats all we do for the next x number of years until Jagex stop Runescape or some catastrophe that bring on the end of world, thats fine with me F2P supply raw materials for higher lvl players because we are limited in what we can get overall, bars, logs, raw food, rune ess, (and thats all we can get, and thats how we know to sell for cash) but this is not to say that we are the main supplier since Jagex never keep tabs on which side sell more. The GE further integrates both sides resources. Certain things for example have to be supply by members, such as nature runes, unless F2P want to spend countless time hitting dark wizards, hobgoblins, zombie, and giants, its really hard to buy LARGE amount of nat in F2P (it took me 2 years to get 30k Nat from ice giants, when my other member friend got that amount in 2 days by abyss RC) Overall, we just want to be treated as another RS player, just as you would treat the people on your friend list (assuming they are honest too), not freeloaders who beg for updates all the time (the only one I can remember is more bank space, again, in my previous msg, I said that old bank space number is adquete enough already)
  25. We often take our own experience for granted, and wonder why some players do things less effiecently, mainly, the difference that differentiate a new or inexperienced player, to a experienced player, are the knowledge and tips they gather from their own tme and friends to train faster and more efficently compare to others. For example, players will value the point of xp vs money, do I want more xp so i can reach a lvl faster, or do I want to train slow and gather better items so i can sell later (yew logs), as my own personal experience, first time I start playing Runescape, I have no idea what logs are used for, when someone told me that their friends manage to get millions by selling logs I was pretty much dumbfolded (why would anyone buy logs? whats the use for it other than starting a fire and cook food?) Eventually, I learn that members use willow logs and yew logs thats obtainable in F2P as well. So I start cutting those logs in order to get some money. After another month of playing, I finally learn the difference between a Mith axe and addy axe, and start using better axe to cut tree faster, and train firemaking and woodcuting at same time so I can reach the yew cutting lvl faster, to make big cash, then finally know where to sell the logs (world 1, for 250ea), and how to read waves of in game msgs (had to stand there for few seconds, and then walk to a quiet spot, and scroll back due to sheer amount of msg being refreshed all the time)
