  1. Actually that's an opinion. In reality though that's what paying for looks all really comes down to, your own opinions as well as the ones of others. It's the same as if I were to wear full bronze around everywhere. Would I look like a newbie? Yes, because that's the image people have when they see bronze armour. It's not a fact that bronze armour makes you look not as good but rather the stereotype that "bronze is for noobs". It's the general consensus. Only noobs who wear D skirts or have done disagree. Bullcabbage. They're both ugly as [bleep] if you don't wear them with the rest of the dragon set. The real n00b is the guy who only has 3m in his bank and wastes 700k of it on a cosmetic piece of crap instead of an item with actual stats. I have no problem with anyone throwing away 700k. It's their money to toss into whatever garbage disposal they like. But it's stupid to pay extra for lower stats on an item when you're buying that item because you intend to use its stats. It's like buying full gilded for slayer instead of barrows, except if full gilded was ugly.
  2. Well picture them people in a D skirt instead. That would look really stupid. Defence doesn't equal power. As one who wore d skirt/granite plate before getting 70 defence, I can honestly say that no, it does not look any uglier at all. It looks pretty much the same.
  3. How would D skirt look better with your suggested outfit? I don't see how your point is relevant to what I said. If someone can afford 700k extra for an item with same stats it should be common sense they could afford to upgrade their armour. I don't even know where you're getting this rune plate thing from, you make it sound like Jagex has forbidden people from wearing Dragon legs with anything other than Rune platebody or Torso. And Guthan's offers no increase in power at all. I'm saying the same people who wear dragon platelegs "for looks" are also the people who wear them in disgustingly mismatched outfits, which completely undermines the "looks" they were going for. It's stupid. And what do you mean "Guthan's offers no increase in power at all"? It has about +40 melee defense and +50 range defense over rune. That's a very big upgrade.
  4. And dragon legs don't? Not to the extent of D skirts. I'd say you certainly do look like a colossal idiot when you wear a dragon platelegs "for looks" and then wear a rune platebody/fighter torso and berserker helm with it. Nice fashion sense--your bright crimson matches the brown and cyan so well! Not to mention how you are apparently too poor to spend an extra 400k to upgrade your rune platebody to Guthan's for significant power increases, but not so poor that you can't afford to spend an extra 700k on an item with exactly the same stats. Did you know that 700k will buy you enough repairs on your Barrows platelegs to last you about 140 hours of training? That's long enough to get 99 strength.
  5. Guess we got it wrong this week. Either that or the Christmas event was just unseasonably bloody and violent.
  6. Blood Runs Deep: A Dagannoth Christmas It's that time of the year again. The time when we set aside our differences to celebrate peace and love, feel the spirit of giving, and of course, violently cleave some dagannoth skulls with a large axe! "Guthix bless us, every--*thwunk* Aargh my arm! What are you doing?! Gaah, no, not the spine, not the--*crunch* Oh Jesus, the pain!" From Jagex's Twitter hint, I totally thought this week was going to be the Christmas Wintumber event. Turns out we got something a little more exciting and a lot more violent: the follow-up to Glorious Memories, in which, well, let me go over the plot for you. [hide=Synopsis]So you start the quest with Baba Yaga on Lunar Isle. Apparently, she wants to go inside a random stranger's dreams. Setting aside the creepy implications of such a venture, we go into a dream sequence in which we learn that the unconscious stranger is an obscure character mentioned in the dialogue of the Lighthouse quest. Apparently this dude went loopy and was helping the Dagannoth Mother raise a Dagannoth Army to take over the Fremennik Province. And apparently the dagannoths are ready to invade RIGHT NOW. Oh [cabbage]. In fact, it seems he's so kooky that the dagannoths in his dream start piling you, and you have to kill a whole bunch of them to "hold them off" or something while Baba Yaga casts some absurdly long spell to leave the dream. Lovely. You then spend several minutes killing dagannoths with no real indication of when exactly the spell will be ready, which is a little annoying. Then you leave the dream and find out that the dagannoths are attacking Rellekka RIGHT NOW. Oh [cabbage]! So you have to go back to Rellekka and do the exact same thing as before, smacking around some interminable number of semiaquatic monsters, again without any indication of your progress. Great. Although to be fair, the music in this section ("Jaws of the Dagannoth") was admittedly pretty sweet. So you beat back the initial assault and it's time to bring the fight back to the enemy. Ex-yeti King Vargas is way ahead of you on this front and has already...well, been captured. You need to rescue the poor guy. And so, after Queen Sigrid gives us a big axe, we commence an escort mission. Does anybody really like escort missions? You walk very slowly through the cave so that the poor, limping Vargas can keep up. Meanwhile, dagannoths, rock lobsters, and magic walruses come at you from all sides to kill you in various nasty ways. Joy. At the end of that ordeal, you finally escape, and let King Vargas up the ladder first. Naturally, he collapses the cave behind him by accident, burying you in a pile of boulders. You wake up in the afterlife. Come on man, what the [cabbage], Vargas? So the afterlife dudes pull the old "WTF are you doing here you're not supposed to be dead" line on you and send you back. Then you have a wedding on a boat and you go to kill some more dagannoths. You have a fight with some sentinels that heal each other, then you go kill the Dagannoth Mother in a big boss fight. Afterwards, you collapse the cave to trap her inside, and accidentally get boulder'd again. [cabbage]. Afterlife dude lets you go AGAIN, saying "Geez n00b, I thought I told you it wasn't your time. GTFO from my Valhalla." Then you go back to salute your fallen allies (Prince Brand and Princess Astrid die...so much for your marriage) and the quest is over.[/hide] I have a few bones to pick with this quest. Let's go through them. Escort mission. Everyone hates escort missions. The fact that you have an escort mission in the first place is a strike against you already. But the facepalming was compounded further by making the NPC limp slower than walking speed. That means we had to actually stop or backtrack to let Vargas catch up even if we weren't running. Lame. Battles of indeterminate length. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty cool fighting dagannoths as they attacked Rellekka. The setting gave it a real "I am defending my homeland!" atmosphere, and I liked the "THIS. IS. RELLEKKA!" bit. But randomly killing dagannoths without an obvious objective was annoying. I'd have preferred to have some indication of how many you still need to take down. With them just respawning after you kill them, it doesn't really feel like you're turning the tide in a war where you're hopelessly outnumbered, which is how it's supposed to feel. It ends up seeming aimless and arbitrary. Same kind of problem in the dream sequence. The final boss. The new magic interface is just not responsive enough to handle the Dagannoth Mother's rapid color-changing well, making for a frustrating battle. The Waterbirth shortcut. Why would you make such a useful shortcut available during the quest but not let us use it again afterwards? I thought you might have learned from player feedback for Within the Light. It's stupid because it gives an unfair advantage to people who leave the quest unfinished. I want to use the shortcut to get to rock lobsters and Dagannoth Kings more easily too, but why should I have to give up my quest cape and 450k experience to do so? Hopefully this will be patched quickly. That said, it wasn't all bad. There were epic moments. It was a pretty challenging quest. It tied up some loose ends in the storyline. All good things. And the reward is perfect--combat experience and a new, specialized weapon. Both fitting rewards for an advanced quests. Bottom line A mixed bag: awesome rewards and awesome story, but some frustrating gameplay elements. Additional note Should I have the widget boxes on the left, on the right, or split between both sides? I can't decide which looks best.

Yeah, Edgeville is actually more convenient now; use that lever. It's just north of the entrance to Edgeville Dungeon.
  8. Okay. You're playing a rated game. You have a typical mixed book, playing to win rating, not just to screw around. What spells are you going to use? This isn't just a survey. I want some serious discussion here. Which spells are absolute must-haves? Which are personal preference? Arcane Gate is obviously a given, of course. I think every good spellbook has to recognize the incredible power of Clock Tower and Cuckoo Clock. Best tower in the game, best damaging spell in the game. Don't leave home without them. Mega Boulder (and by extension Mud Ball) is important as well simply because of the sheer raw power. It requires very little commitment in your spellbook and gives you unrivaled KO power and the ability to come back from otherwise hopeless situations. I'd also say Shock Bomb is too much of a potential blowout to pass up on, especially when combined with Flight to make it easy to aim. Sinking an opponent AND hitting them for 80 is a ridiculous advantage. In fact, it's so ridiculous that it can make a game virtually unwinnable from the very first turn, which is why I use Zero Shield to mitigate that chance factor and make games less dependent on luck. Protection Shield makes a good partner to Zero Shield as well as Flight. You also need something to deal with towers reliably; I prefer Pebble Shot. Blast from the Past is a nice utility spell that comes in handy often, so let's add that in. That leaves me with: -Arcane Gate -Arcane Zero Shield -Pebble Shot -Mud Ball -Mega Boulder -Shock Bomb -Storm Spirit -Flight -Protection Shield -Clock Tower -Cuckoo Clock -Blast from the Past -4 more spaces What do you guys think?
  9. I'm not much of a Bric-a-Brac fan, so I'll pass on this one. Next time, though. (More Arcanists pl0x!)
  10. From Runescape Content Q&A: Perhaps that's relevant.
  11. ZOMG. Call the content team RIGHT NOW! That's an AWESOME idea for a Christmas Wintumber event! Santa Claus's sled breaks and he needs to use a gnome glider zomg it's perfect! \:D/ (Kidding. But it is a funny image.)
  12. I'd mix it in with the herb runs. After the Catherby herb patch, swing by the fruit tree patch, then run to the dock and charter a boat to Brimhaven.
  13. Technically incorrect. The defender has defense bonuses too.
  14. Do you, or anyone else, happen to have a transcript of this? BTW, know that I'm following this thread in great detail and with great interest... <---The pen below my name isn't there just for looks Around 6:40.
  15. I don't see why you don't just buy a few farming boosters and take advantage of the massive 20k xp they give to get to 83  Because a future update could potentially make it relevant to have additional spirit seeds. Also, you'd be without access to the planted tree for two days. Anyway, it's much more sensible to use Miscellania for the seeds. Vinesweeper is too slow.
  16. Rune defender is almost universally better than an obby shield. Use a defender.
  17. It's hardly a permanent thing. Next update or two, cooked will go down and/or raw will go up, and it'll be back to normal. It's just an economic fluke.
  18. Easy hint this week, huh? Christmas! \:D/
  19. My thoughts exactly on both articles. I did like knowing every update for the coming month, but when developers are that pressured, apparently all they can come up with is crap like Vinesweeper.
  20. Here it is: http://devblog.runescape.com/view_post.ws?post_id=30
  21. Eucalyptus logs are in fact superior to both magics and yews in both cash AND xp, even at the lowest levels, and anyone can access them easily at Mobilizing Armies. This kind of makes yews and magics obsolete. Of course, nothing in woodcutting can really give impressive profits. I'd be amazed if you could make even 200k gp/hr even with 99 woodcutting, and it's incredibly easy to make that kind of money even with low levels. (Smelting cannonballs, for example, can make better profit and takes about the same amount of attention; making planks can make around 275k gp/hr and requires literally no skills, quests, or anything.)
  22. Spicy stew doesn't stack with other boosts any differently than ordinary boosts do. Summer pies are definitely going to be more effective.
  23. 55k actually, and still inferior to pretty much every other training method that exists. Willows are terrible. Also, Adze doesn't do anything special at ivies, so it doesn't matter here.
