Watching muted movies doesnt appeal to me because I am a person who has learned to use his hearing. Watching movies as a deaf person is enjoyable to them because they don't have hearing and do not rely on sounds to understand concepts of what is going on on the screen. Again you seem to be imagining if you took your hearing away. You need to imagine what it would be like to simply exist in a world where sound is not important. I am sure there is something that is important to you because you have lived knowing it. You city, your family, your religion, heritage, occupation, school interest. Anything you like, you only like it because you have learned to like it. Also, ASL poetry is as important to a Deaf person as watching a sound movie is to you. You seem to think that just because sound is important to you in a movie, therefore it is necessary for everyone. Well, ASL poetry is important to thousands of people, I guess it must be necessary for everyone too so you better start learning. ASL poetry is made for people who know ASL. If I wanted to experience that, I could. Movies are made for the hearing. Just as I am disadvataged if I try to enjoy ASL poetry, they deaf are disadvantaged if they try to enjoy movies with sound.

The disadvantage, of Buddhism, to me, is that in order to be a proper Buddhist, one must dedicate time and effort. Why would I do that for something that I don't believe in? I've never denied that there are deaf people who want to be deaf. It still doesn't change the fact that in todays society, it puts them at a disadvantage. I've already addressed why certain things don't appeal to me, but you seem unable to articulate exactly why it is that watching movies muted with subtitles doesn't appeal to you.

:wall: I'm missing out on ASL videos, poems, etc, because I haven't learned sign language. I could if I wanted to, but I don't. A lack of education can be seen as an impairment, yes, but it's impossible to know everything. I can appreciate the lack of sound all I want, and I do. I just plug my ears. I do learn the piano, actually. Being a vegan has significant disadvantages to being a meat eater. The time it takes to make sure you get the correct nutrients is ridiculous, and I don't feel strongly enough about it to make it worth my while. I'm not a Buddhist because I don't want to be. It doesn't appeal to me. The point you are attempting to make is that a movie without sound is equal in every way, shape and form to one with it. Let me tell you, you are a lucky guy! Deaf people, they are forced to live in a world without sound. I'm sure some of them like it but you.....you sir have a choice! You can do either! Yet you still choose sound, and I somehow think that's telling. If I could paint my car blue for free, I would, because there is no disadvantage to it. Yet, you can watch movies muted with subtitles, supposedly because there is no disadvantage, but you don't.

I don't watch my movies with subtitles, because for me the movie is more enjoyable with audio. But this is FOR ME. Movies are not more enjoyable for everyone simply because they have audio. It is absolutely rude for you to think that you enjoy movies more than a deaf person just because you can hear them. You are not imagining yourself as a deaf person. You are imagining yourself as a hearing person who no longer hears. To a person who is deaf, he is not necessarily "missing" hearing. He knows a world where hearing does not exist. He does not necessarily percieve himself as lacking anything. You only see sound as important because you have learned to depend on it, and thus see it as vital. A person living in a world without sound can exist perfectly fine without it. I qualify that, for good reason, the world with hearing is a better one than without. If there really was no disadvantage to it, why don't you do it? Movies are made for sounds - a deaf person misses out on conversation, emotion, and most importantly music. It may be true that "if you don't know what you're missing you can't miss it". This doesn't go one inch towards making the missing a good thing.

My definition for disability would be "A condition that a person has that he or she feels interferes with the life that they want to live." I think that someone who gets his hand blown off can be called disabled if he lets it disable him. But I think a blind/deaf/paralyzed person can choose to live their life as not seeing their condition as a disability. You can't say that deaf people are disabled because they have to use captions instead of listening to a movie. There is nothing better or worse about listening to audio or reading text. It isnt better, just different. Should a Deaf person call you disabled for not being able to understand ASL poems/plays/musicals? Hearing is not better than deafness. Walking is not better than using a wheelchair. You can embrace your life and enjoy any situation you are put in. Everything we percieve as "good" is only "good" because we have learned to percieve it that way. Oh ok, so you watch all your movies on mute with subtitles then?

"If You Don't Like Me, Don't Read" <- His lordship
obfuscator replied to British_Dan's topic in Clan Discussions
I hate to say it, but this is "his lordship" we're talking about. Given the large amount of immaturity in the clan world a huge number of people are so biased that they will allow their personal feelings to stand in the way of this topic. -
The error you get on the blue screen would seem to indicate you will need a completely new drive. If killing explorer[Caution: Executable File] (internet explores executable is iexplore[Caution: Executable File]) was the only issue you'd be able to restart it no problem.

Hmm good point. I concur.
-
Hmm, looks like you can't. I think we should be able too though.
-
Don't see what a power supply has to do with that but meh.

Nuclear weapons are really only used for purposes of intimidation. The problem is that with mutually assured destruction, only someone in the most desperate of circumstances would approve the usage of these things. But here is where the onus is on clan leaders to make actions have consequences. While as a whole it could be unpopular I feel it's impossible to shrug it off as something that could never be done. I'll use SE as an example; obviously there was no "perfect rule", where any flamer would be instantly kicked, but certain things (such as hacking and ddosing) were discouraged to the point they were practically nonexistent. SE not only succeeded as a clan, but even excelled despite disallowing (for the most part) the behaviors which sadly permeate the top clan world these days. My point is that there "are" real consequences. No, the police will never come onto internet forums and hand out fines and charges to those perpetrating flames and ddossing forums (although it has happened in rare cases). The punishment must fit the crime, and once again this is where the onus is on the clan leaders to make it happen. There are several reasons that members of the clan community go around and do these things. Firstly, it's to have fun, they find some sick enjoyment out of putting down others. In other words, bullying gone nuclear. The second reason, and one that I believe may be even more critical is because they care about their clan. There aren't many things that can discourage someone from behaving badly on the internet, but a so called process of "taking the internet away" would work. I find it hard to believe that those VR members who have been in VR for 2+ years would continue to participate in the irl flames and ddos attacks were VRs leadership to institute a zero tolerance policy and kick any found committing those transgressions. Hit them where it hurts, so to speak, and the clan leaders are the ones with the power to make this happen. -
I'm no workout guru, but I can tell you right away core/leg strength will be key. Squats should become your best friend (or worst enemy).:P

What would you sporty/fit people recommend...

Toning is a myth. Working out will build muscle, and losing fat will make it appear more defined. That's the be all and end all of it. EDIT: read the whole thread, just listen to wep. If you come here asking for help, and then ignore somebody who frankly, has a lot more knowledge than you do, then all I can say is good luck doing exercises for 6 months with no results. EDIT 2: I can testify to this. I don't have time for a serious workout, so i basically just do some push ups and chin ups every day. I've been doing this for months, and I look exactly the same as I did before, skinny and not muscular. I do it more for stretching purposes than anything, seeing as I basically sit on the computer all day at work/school. -
What Racheya said. You can try to take out the HD and connect it to another computer in slave mode to see if your files can be saved, but you'll probably need a new HD, and of course a fresh windows install. And never end those system processes without knowing what they do :P

Can't say it much better than this. People need to look at things in perspective and realize that, no matter how passionate they may be, this is just a game. It's a pity some people can't leave things where they belong. -
Broken image! I went through a stage where I thought I'd get a piercing. Never did though...

Oh, so if I said the exact same things they'd be ok? Check the facts, don't just assume they are wrong. -
Yeah Program Files contains everything, not just the stuff you don't want to use. Your computer could have some serious problems if you do that. Seriously, just buy a clean copy of Windows 7 or something, and reformat (if you can't uninstall the crap they give you)

Nikon D3000. Star in the sky: Industrial/scaffold, had it for years. :P Also, it's one of the piercings that do hurt, only the second hole, since the adrenaline rush kicks in at first. Used six months to a year to heal, probably took 10 months for mine to fully heal. Aha my girlfriend used to have a ton of piercings, she's taken most of them out by now but refuses to take out that once since it was such a pain in the ass :P

Touche dear sir :P

Ghjjf is the obvious choice here; despite me not being a huge fan of him personally, you have to admit the clan world has never seen a character quite like him :P
