No. Mankind is not perfect. The entire world will never see eye to eye - and as long as there are differences there will be war. War is bad. The death itself makes war a terrible occurence. The problem is that as long as humans remain in this imperfect world it can often be a necessary evil. Soldiers do their job. There is a fine line though - for example I consider a soldier who tortures a prisoner bad, same as summary executions or unwarranted violence/disrespect for human life. But if they are just doing their job, they are brave and good to do it. Absolutely. There are times in which way of life is threatened, when injustice prevails, when self preservation must take over and then yes, war is sometimes the only option.

Jsp is ridiculously out of date for web programming. Never done anything with .net though. -
Since no one else posted I will. I don't know much about bash scripting (learned a little in a first semester class last year) but this definitely taught me something. Good job :P

Imo the kid who would hang themselves because they got bullied has just as many problems as the kids who would bully in the first place. Parent's don't give a [bleep] about what there kids get up to anymore, thats the sad part.

Yo bballer, wanna collab on a game? Currently I'm working(on and off, have very little time) on a little desktop widget full of useful stuff. So far my list is Password generator - basics done, need to allow it to not reuse letters, i want to use it to make keys for #2 basic file encryption - started Other than that, I'm writing an application to run on my server that lets me create and edit html, css and php files remotely. Sort of like a combination of an ftp client and text editor. I'm nowhere near being done that a I do that while at work and I can't test php...done the basic html/css/javascript though. Tbh, I doubt I'll finish the above one. Aside from that, its been on my mind to develop a library application for the books in my house - my parents have over 10,000 and it can be a huge hassle to find them etc. -
Pretty much what I was expecting, I remember when I see the preview and the grandma goes crazy I thought it was the most ridiculous [cabbage] ever. I saw sherlock homes...it was good. 8/10.

Winter here has been weird (Ontario, Canada) stayed above 0 (celcius) till mid december, dropped to -20 till early jan - mild thru mid jan, now its back down to -15 and looking to stay that way for a week or so. We haven't even had a half foot of snow the whole winter either, which is really little.

Don't generalise metal, brilliant music is still being made, music has simply progressed. Progressed to inaudible grunting and as much distortion as possible. Show me some metal I can understand and then I'll agree with you. I actually mean it - I'd love to hear some newer metal that isn't just grunting.

In terms of who is most known in the modern day for religious extremism, it is muslims, definitely. But yes, the crusades were probably just as bad, back in the day. I think people were simply more used to repression then so it isn't thought of in the same way. Like Bari said, religious extremists make up a tiny percent of the overall religious population. My parents are fervent catholics, and many of their friends and aquantances are, but I've never met anyone who I'd consider "extreme". In the same way, every single muslim person I've met has been a reasonable and respectful person. As for the gay marriage debate, what you need to realize is that religious people see gay marriage as a sin. Whether it is a correct or incorrect opinion isn't really important - the goal of the church(catholic) in this regard is not to "discriminate" against homosexuals. I think people tend to view someone's opinion that gay marriage is wrong as a personal attack on homosexuals. For example, I have several openly gay friends, and from day 1 I have been honest with them and told them I don't beleive in their way of life. It doesn't make me treat them with any less respect as people, and they accept that. "Your freedom ends where another's begins." It's an interesting quote - you say gay rights (marriage in particular) doesn't infringe on anyone elses, but the side effects definitely do. For example, in Canada now it is considered a hate crime to openly be an opponent of gay marriage - therefore free speech is being supressed and people who wish to protest cannot do so without threat of punishment. Note: these are people like myself who do not "hate" gay people, rather prefer to keep the legal definition of marriage as something that can bear children in an environment condusive to their maturation as good citizens. I don't mean to say that homosexuals can't raise good children - but I do mean to say that multiple studies have been done that show a child thrives in an environment where both a male and female parent are present. This is also why a large majority of criminals in our jails had a single parent or else an otherwise disruptive home environment.

What controls the number of available plots I can gather resources on? New ones seem to appear from time to time.

Yeah it really sucks, no one makes good metal anymore. Maiden is still good enough for me though :)

We absolutely have a primordial survival instinct. The problem is, the human brain is so developed that it is capable of supressing it, aka justifying the situation using common sense. A person who stays with an abuser may feel as if they have nowhere to go, as if the abuser is the "best they can get", in which case they stay despite the abuse. I wouldn't say we are de-evolutionizing. I would say that we are allowing eveyrone, even the "imperfect" a chance to live. It is true that many people have lost the toughness and ability to work for things in todays society of instant gratification. Yes, I do. There are some animals that are, but the majority aren't. If you look at the life cycle of children, human children have one of the longest animal developement stages. In the wild, fathers will stay with their children until they are adults at least, or ready to move on. In humans, the "growing up" process takes so long that by the end of it humans don't have a desire to "mate again" so to speak. Yes, I think so. We have a need to unleash anger and stress. In the past violence fulfilled that, so yes, we turn to sports to a degree. I think humans were meant to live however suits us. I can't agree with population size contributing to crime rate. For example, many small cities have much higher crime rates than larger ones. It's the poverty gap that causes crime, not the how many people we are surrounded by.

Introduction to Programming & Programming Languages
obfuscator replied to dsavi's topic in Programming and Web Design
I did what you did for C with Java. [spoiler=Java] Used for: Similar to C, it can be used for just about anything. It's commonly one of the first programming languages taught to programming students. It has a reputation for not being as fast as C but over the years it has been fine tuned to be of comparable speed. Been around since: 1995. Pros: Simple syntax like C, huge support and libraries. Easy to learn (the basics at least). Cons: Not quite as fast as C, generally not ported to consoles as well. public class example{ public static void main(String[] args){ someFunction(); } public static void someFunction(){ int i; float j; for(i = 0; i < 10; i++){ j = i; if((j/2) == (i/2)){ System.out.println("i is even"); } else { System.out.println("i is odd"); } } } } EDIT: Ok done, I don't know C so I don't know if its the exact java version of what you were trying to do. -
No problem, glad you got it working :)

If we do that, I'd say keep it positive only, and maybe make people able to give out +1 rep per 10 hours or something....
-
Agreed here, tip.it has functioned fine without it for ages. I kind of like the fact that we are unique in that respect, its a big turn off when I see that kind of stuff on other forums. I see no need to test something that I'm pretty sure will be abused.

Me too. I stopped drinking pop.
