You didn't like Huckleberry.... And Ayn Rand is a nutjob. If it wasn't for the fact that most of what he said is completely useless, I would deny him the title of philosopher.
  3. For the most part, I'm the same way online that I am IRL. Less swearing though. (For the record, I actually disprove of such "shock-and-awe" abruptness in actual discourse, but I tend to get frustrated, and all criticism of vulgarity abruptly becomes an embarrassing hypocrisy.)
  4. Exactly. Unfortunately, when we live in a society that's determined to use bureaucracies to put a dollar value on everything, this is what we end up with: environmental damage, death of entirely blameless pets, negative publicity for the fire department and government, and still no $75 fee payed. Well, sounds like somebody won this one... for the life of me though, I can't figure out who.
  5. Yes. let's debate this point, because this is all that matters. They took a chance, they paid. For 75 dollars. I'd be interested to see the number of people that don't pay. I'm sure it's tiny. And whoever didn't create a failsafe for this plan... like making it part of their taxes? Making it non-optional? Making them pay the cost of putting the fire out? Better to charge them the 5k or whatnot for scrambling the fire department then to let a family be made homeless.
  6. "Mebbe" people should demand that the systems they've built around them are more than just an empty house of cards, a vague charade that can collapse at the slightest breath.

I can't help but wonder: who decided that these were classics? I'm not sure if it's just a matter of opinion, but I don't think that the majority are much superior to just a random snap-shot of non-detective/romance novels at any point in time. Although I can't help but wonder if I'm wrong.
  8. Just a joke. I have to wonder though: who issued that order? Who said: "let this family's worldly possessions burn. Let every symbol of their life, every piece of paper, every picture, let it all [bleep]ing burn. We need to make an example out of them, since if we help one that didn't pay, all of the other law-abiding, tax-paying citizens will suddenly stop paying."
  9. Looks pretty cool, but I don't buy games at full price. Unless it's Uncharted.

  11. Tell that to Hollywood. Oh, believe me: I've tried. They said that as long as indoctrination and glorification of boundless horrors continue to be profitable, I can take a hike.
  12. Nothing is really ever "right" or "wrong". And lesbians are only "nasty" when they're unattractive :P There are things that are right and wrong, there can be absolutes. The old testament god is the most unpleasant character in all of fiction. more like badass. Mass murder isn't "badass".
  13. Debating the religious: I know that it's not worth my time, but I don't seem to have the self-control to ignore comments concerning religious morality, or charity, conflict, etc. Theist: Religion cannot be disproved. Me: No, nothing can be disproved... T: The Earth is 6,000 years old Me: I can disprove your argument in less than a minute. T: No you can't. Me: Stars are millions of light years away from us, correct? T: Yes Me: There is an absolute limit on speed: nothing can exceed the speed of light. T: Yes.... Me: So, our planet, created a few thousand years ago, supposedly is receiving light from a star several million light years away? T: Yes, but the bible says that god created everything, and it has not contradictions, so it must be correct. Me: I don't to use crude language, but that had [bleep]ing nothing to do with the subject.
  14. Sounds like the mob: "Pay our protection, or one day something bad might happen to your house... I'm just saying, it might."

Lifted and stacked pavers for about 6 hours... then hockey. Except for the exhaustion, good day. Although when I do get paid, I'm sure I'll be "yea.... not really worth it, was it?"

  17. I doubt that more than a handful of people in the world have talents that are actually unique. As for me, I can get into an argument about anything.
  18. Health risks are why. And the fact that a child isn't even going to be 30 by the time their mother has reached her expected lifespan limit. http://health.howstuffworks.com/pregnancy-and-parenting/pregnancy/complications/a-guide-to-pregnancy-complications-ga1.htm

I tried to read The Great Gatsby.... and nearly fell asleep a chapter in. It was so boring that I didn't even want to read it. Yes, he's a great author: the dialogue "felt" quite realistic, but in the end my determination to read the classics failed. Currently, The Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klein, the author of No Logo. Good book so far, and it has created my newfound passion of reading the World News page, and then comparing it to the business section. Freidmanites frighten me more than ever. I intend to begin my reading of Chomsky next: any advice on where to begin, or does it not matter?
  20. Does socializing on TIF count?
  21. It's not right or wrong; it just is. Exactly like heterosexual love. And since when are lesbians nasty? I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only male with that opinion...
  22. It's like watching girls complement each other...
  23. System is broken: they should have been fined, or the fee more forcible collected. Probably should have been included in their taxes. Either way, letting their house burn down benefits no one.
  24. Anyone that can post here has a life. Pedantics aside, I have less life than some, and more than others. A weekend of mine is more likely to include reading, Pantera, and work than parties, girls, alcohol, or church. Some would say that's not a life at all. I would disagree. Really, the problem here is that the answer to your question depends on other people's judgment too much. Somehow I doubt most people will honestly say that they have no life.
