  1. Nick Drake - Parasite I will forever mention Nick Drake whenever people talk about good guitarists.
  2. I used the RC pretty much since its release until now, but I just couldn't get used to it at all. I had issues with HD H.264 playback (taking far more CPU power than it should), Windows Update (computer would hang on booting into Windows after updating), sound (too quiet, pops and cracks) and Aero switching itself off if I left my computer idle. Recently I just decided to format and install XP again; life has been better. I blame my nForce motherboard.
  3. Finshed both seasons of Hayate now, awesome show. On another note, I don't think normal anime exists.

Guh. I have no idea what's up with me, but recently I've been suffering nasty headaches, tiredness, a loss of appetite and what appears to be some minor stuffiness in my left ear. Whatever the cause, it's making me feel completely rotten and I'm dozing off all the time.
  5. When I write in odd meters, it happens naturally. It's not: "Let's sit down and write something in 11". I can say I'm a fan of 9/8 and 10/8 when it comes to odd meters. Obviously it doesn't appeal to everybody, but I love writing a groove over an odd meter. Something you can still nod your head to, but doesn't become so complex that it just sounds like a mad rush of notes and rhythms. It's not writing in that meter just for the sake of being odd or different. I can understand that. It's people who write in something like 27/16 to try to prove that their band can be "technical" that get to me. As long as you have a musical reason for writing it then it's all good. I'm also quite the fan of 9/8 and it's the only real irregular time sig that I use.
  6. First introduction is better.

  7. Can't let this one stay open. Any concerns, PM me.
  8. のあのわ - ゆめの在りか This will make you happy for weeks: Best thing I've heard in ages. The vocalist really gives it her all.
  9. I went to a school that specialized in music, and I definitely agree that music theory helps. Also, if you can't read score or transpose, LEARN THEM. Another essential thing everyone needs to get down early are intervals; for example, diminished 4th, perfect 4th, augmented 4th. I'm one of those people who puts little emphasis on scales and such. Whilst learning scales is a useful thing, it's not required to be able to write decent music and it's way too easy to overuse them and turn your music into an unlistenable [bleep]fest. I also think that complex time signatures are BS. You don't need to get any more complex than 5/4.
  10. In both situations, I'm a man of rather few words. Conversations with me can die within seconds.

Greatly considering breaking NEET status and finding a job. I'm beginning to feel like a prisoner.
  12. I don't think the 3200 is a gaming GPU. You'd probably get those games running on low settings... don't expect much from it. The actual laptop seems like a pretty good buy though, it has a nice processor, plenty of memory and a decently-sized HDD. The only thing that I don't like with it is the resolution. 16:9 resolutions smaller than 1920*1080 are not a good idea in general. You get more screen area out of the equivalent 16:10 resolution, but I haven't seen a laptop with a decent resolution about for a while now.
  13. I love shoujo anime. Ever since Cardcaptor Sakura. In before lolicon. I've enjoyed a lot of stuff on the shounen/seinen demographic border; for example Lucky Star, Fate/Stay Night and Baccano!. I have this thing about GAR men in anime: one is enough for the whole cast. No need for about twenty of them. It gets really stale fast.
  14. Still need to watch Ranma 1/2. I find a lot of older stuff difficult to get into. For example: I just cannot get into Dragonball of any kind. The same applies to any long-winded shounen-oriented anime - I do quite well with it for a while and then I hit the huge amount of useless filler.
  15. I almost always start with lyrics. That way, it makes it a lot easier to colour your lyrics with the music and make them stand out. For example, if we're in A major and the lyrics are of an optimistic nature, you could use a progression such as A-D-E-E; however, if they turn melancholic within the same composition you could modulate and use A-F#m-C#m-Bm. As for the actual music, it usually starts with me playing a few notes on my keyboard or guitar. Everything develops from those.
  16. Or maybe you don't know the power of epic new anime. New anime rocks. Long live moe-moe and Umineko. Watched the Hayate S2 OVA. Awesome nosebleed.
  17. Keep the old, stupid pictures off here please. Take this as a light warning. Locked on request.
  18. I wouldn't listen to Hextriplet if you know what's good for you. Honestly I really don't know what to suggest apart from wiping your hard disk and starting over. If you're having this much virus trouble than I doubt that it's worth the huge headache of fixing it. If you don't have a Windows disk then you'll have to buy one. Never, ever pirate an OS.
  19. Except a crying baby is one of those things you come to expect (but it is incredibly courteous and polite if they do leave momentarily). I went to see a production of Romeo & Juliet with my school; there were a couple of other schools there and those kids were inconsiderate little bastards. I felt deeply sorry for the people who came to see it for non-educational purposes and had to put up with a horribly ruined atmosphere. It makes me think that my parents did an awesome job of teaching me politeness, courtesy and consideration. In part it has something to do with my family being rather well-off as it is (although not amazingly, just far above average for the UK); we were always taught to be good, respectful kids right from the outset.
  20. You'll probably draw some amount of negative attention to yourself. This kind of reminds me of a time when my friends at school tried to get me to crossdress for a charity event, as a nekomimi maid. This was back when I had long hair and looked young enough to pull off a convincing trap, mind. The rest of the story is nonexistent because I just couldn't live with the shame of my parents seeing me like that.

Mods get shiny buttons next to the topic title that are horribly easy to accidentally click if you're not paying attention, which explains why threads are randomly being stuck/unstuck etc. Go fix it D: Done.
