Pfft. Learn how to eat on the run and prayer flash. Ranged is useful in F2P. Shadowforger takes a lot of damage from ranged attacks. It's plenty faster in the skeleton horde boss room compared to magic, not to mention that god damn eyeball boss Nightgazer in the furnished floors. Then there's Lexicus and Astraea. It's also useful against Stomp if you want to reduce his attack styles to magic and ranged. Then you have the plane-freezer and his slippery room. Harlakk, whom you can strafe by using the four corners, and the walk method with the ice fiend. (My thanks to the men in these forums for showing those methods.) Shortbowing the cursebearer is pretty effective. As for icy bones, letting someone tank while you're far off behind your tanker - you almost take no damage. Oh, and Ballak, mainly to stay out of his AOE banhammer attack. And never forget the geomancer, that accursed sucker who leeches off your prayer. I stick with the claim that ranged is useful for most F2P bosses. If you're in w61, then you certainly don't need to worry too much about standing in the middle of the room and attracting all the monsters. Although these sort of folk do take a considerable amount of damage anyway and end up eating, instead of fighting smart and making it 1v1. The obstacles in a room are there. Use them to your advantage. Then again, I consider the reduced difficulty as easy mode. No, they aren't incompetent, but they've got a short-lived run stamina.

They're probably the kind of folk who go into a room full of monsters and get piled, instead of forcing 1v1 confrontations. Heh.

Dueling.

It is fact the majority of your so-called skillers/mules leech off the combat in exchange for p2p f35 normal experience rates. Most spend the rest of their time afking. Only one out of three usually do anything in a dungeon. Be happy Jagex has no intention to do anything about it since it's the bone they tossed to F2P to keep the experience cap. Plenty of p2p skillers do business with w61, I heard. It is rare to find any p2p team accept skillers in their ranks due to the time they add, they get more use out of a combatant than a skiller. As for world 7, the only way to get decent time out of that place is to either form a semi-permanent team, adding companions who prove themselves - luck with that, a lot of people are notoriously independent, lone wolves in truth - or doing what I like to call survivalist keying. Think of it as a breeding ground for mercenaries.

Bahahahahahaha! Jagex won't ever make anything exclusively for F2P because they have to take P2P into consideration. What is available in F2P must be available to P2P. It's a fine balancing act, and the safest route is to do nothing. Enjoy the demo. I know I have.

I'd rather be as versatile as possible in my binds. Keep my options open. And aren't the Dragoons based in w61 now, Sonic? Seems folk have gotten addicted to the easy experience. Heh. As I mentioned a long while ago, dging in F2P in world 61 is boring to me. Few ever experience the adrenaline from fighting off 100+ monsters in a single room or a close brush with death with your health below 10, much less coordinate an entire combat group instead of a paltry two-person partnership. The platebody weight slows down keying. I'd rather not rest and just keep my run at a constant 20-30%. All you need is prayer, and even that can be lengthened with prayer flashing. If the highest monster in w61 is only level 86 then you don't even need the plate, you can just flash/loot food after the monster dies.

A pox on fractite gauntlets. Spear, blastbox, longbow, and either a pickaxe or a hatchet. Get high enough range and there'll always be fractite arrows spawned.

Find a gem merchant and prepare to haggle for prices. Gods, I missed haggling during the limit era.

Unafraid to bot
A very good point. If only Jagex would look to how other MMOs are handling it.

Unafraid to bot
It shouldn't have to be that way. Seems to me the recent trend in MMOs is to eliminate or shorten the grind. If they did remove the grind, they'd see a few less bots, yes. However, it wouldn't stop the companies with thousands. But then again, if they took away the grind and made it fun... Wouldn't the skilling locations fill up with people now wanting to do that skill? :P. A crude measure: boost experience gains for the most godawful skills and you'll see more deserted areas being used or low-ranked skills being picked up. It won't make it more fun, but it'll cut the time to get to the goal. Problem is the end game. Runescape has little of it. So you got 99 Runecrafting. Great. What can you do with that other than grinding for money, assisting, or playing the Great Orb Project?

Foreign worlds aren't afflicted. Well, bots can supposedly work in those worlds, but it's a headache and a hassle to do. But that's small comfort, really.

The only time F2Pers around here complain is when they're promised something and they do not get it. Case in point, the veteran capes. Rest of the time you'll find them in the rants or suggestions thread. As for whining about bots, you won't see this die down until they're eradicated through another measure like the limit era, or the problem - since botting is a symptom - is addressed and dealt with.

Hypothetical Situations
You could apply the multiplier effect thing to ores or logs too - and get experience for each piece you get. It'd speed up training so much, make things more enjoyable. I'm still waiting for armor and weapon customization involving the smithing and perhaps the crafting skill. Smith an ordinary bronze bodyplate, smith an ornamental gilt attachment - then combine it together. The finished product would be untradeable - a gilted bronze body - but the gilt itself would have random bonus stats to add onto the armor depending on your level. Just a daydream.

Mod Mark: I apologise if any of you feel misled, that was not our intention. It was always planned to have these as members only rewards, just as with the other capes associated with accomplishment like the skill capes. We do not intend to make them f2p and never did. These decisions were discussed early on in project development. The statement All players who have played for 5 years or more will have access to the cape is indeed an accurate one. However, they also require membership to buy one. Genuinely we apologise if you feel tricked in any way. Inviting the f2p community to help design the cape was intended to be a good thing, it seems now that that might of created the wrong impression. We will make our communication clearer next time. 15-16-524-62748204 Oh dearie me, who didn't see that coming?

Yea, I still play. Crowd I'm playing with is full of mean-spirited mischief and we sometimes stray into the grey area of the game. Killing bots, luring marks, spontaneous spam and bursting into song (don't ask), gambling games, things like that for a start. Messing with people's heads in general. I love it. In short, I'm back to my usual sort of business before the Free Trade limit era. I'm quite content on that score. Don't expect to find me though. Haven't told anyone what accounts I've been on either. EDIT: After the pathfinding update, the angles are all memorization. The perfect symmetry being skewed after the update, memory work is the only way to really get anywhere with the minigame. Always optimistic, aren't you. I've always liked that.

They lived up to their word on dungeoneering. That is, that the skill would be for F2P as well. Then they proceeded to cut the experience in half for 90+ combat. And then they ignore all feedback on it or wave it off. Currently they only live up to their word if it lures people into paying for members. Seems like they're in desperate need of money at the moment despite what they've been earning. Since you were at Gop, do you remember when barriers couldn't raise the activity bar? I recall suggesting they give it a slight oomph in that direction, which they did. There were a number of other things I mentioned also that got fixed for that minigame among others, but for the life of me I can't recall it now. Meh. Then again they also took their sweet time fixing the mind glitch. Jagex as a whole is a very temperamental company.

To the poor fools rioting in world 14 Varrock, good luck. You'll need it. And hai Rook <3: EDIT: As of the time of this post, world population numbers in many worlds are in the mid 200s. Past two weeks, the numbers were a steady 800 to 1000. Zombies are scary.

Think what you will, I've already heard plenty of bragging about botting to 85.
-

Unfortunately, wrong. There are bots out there for it, at least one stable bot that earns anywhere from 20 to 40k experience per hour if the setup is right.

Runescape's an old MMO. Grinding is a feature. Or have you forgotten Livid Farm already? Heh. EDIT: The mining area update in the BTS will be no different.

It's old. It's very old, actually. But it shouldn't come as a surprise if you've stuck to the idea F2P is a demo despite whatever Jagex said otherwise. And well, they have to get new players addicted somehow, and for current and past members to keep paying. Business first and all that rot.

I find it interesting the game population has been a consistent average of 85k+ the hour or two after every update around this time of the day. Used to be it'd be at least 100-120k signing online again during the FT limit era. It's a good thing this cape update is for P2P only what with all the problems cropping up.

Bunny ears were the first untradeables. But that's ... interesting, to say the least, if they're basing it off holiday items. EDIT: you can bet the 10 year cape will be members too.

When did you start paying? They might be basing it on payment records.
