  1. OMFG REPORTED. <3: Oh hi. As if they'd do anything. I've been using adblock since...well, feels like forever. And even if they did, they won't get 'em all. Hah! Restarting servers at random can end up being a headache for players. I'd be interested to see a machine-learning bot become proficient in Runescape.
  2. Heh. IMO the game reached zombie stage shortly after the return of free trade. I wouldn't be surprised if bots outnumbered players now. As of the time of this post there are currently 72k players, which sounds about right considering the time of day, and it matches the pattern and numbers of people logging back in pre-FT. It was double this number before the update. I'd have thought there'd be close to 110k people online again. But since bots take anywhere from an hour or two to update, well...that should speak for itself, I think. ITT there are frankly too many ideas based on punishment here in an attempt to maintain the status quo during the trade limit era. While it's depressing to see so many bots, Jagex ought to break out content or tweaks that'll take us away from what causes people to bot. The day they get rid of a majority of bots is the day I'll turn off my adblock when I play on my f2p accounts.
  3. People wouldn't be able to move their character and work with things in their inventory simultaneously if Jagex did that, and that seems to be a big thing in boss hunting and pking. Who said they had to remove the current way we walk/run right now, which is point and click instead of hold and click? They could just add it in to augment movement. There are plenty of situations where all you want to do is run. Capchas are hardly rewarding. (Ugh, sleeping bags!) I'd rather they just boosted experience gains in certain minigames. And there are plenty enough that'd be turned off by brain-teasers, Highlander, though I personally would rather prefer that idea.
  4. Arrow keys are overrated. Why not just hold down the left-click mouse button allowing your avatar to move in the mouse's direction until you let go? And if you want to combat bots, study and bump up the experience rates in minigames to equal normal skilling experience rates. Less work all around for Jagex since it'd be a matter of tweaking existing code and allows diversity in training methods if you're not concerned about moneymaking a la chopping yews.
  5. I'd rather that Jagex keep the majority of untradeable items in quests and as end-game skill products only, like dungeoneering's chaotic weapons. Keep it out of either low or high gear monster drops. Dynastyfan's post reminded me that the most common story in Runescape is the from-rags-to-riches story and all its variants. Depending on how your head wraps around the idea, this style of playing can be pretty addictive. It's just got that certain appeal about building something new with your own hands and watching it grow. Makes it feel fulfilling.
  6. It's a minigame. Heh. You know it'll be a disappointment when somebody says, "could be worse."
  7. Desperate to grab the attention dungeoneering couldn't, huh? Maybe if they removed the developmentally delayed experience cap in free-to-play there would be just a touch more interest in it. I'd like to see random event series in the same way there are quest series. Well done on using references for the second article.
  8. Earthbound, huh. Fun. An oddball of an RPG, but fun all the same. Do enjoy.
  9. It's no good for power-leveling because it fills up pretty quick. If you're banking items, then sure. Otherwise, no point using them.
  10. The urn update is great for f2p. For p2p, not so much. What an urn basically is, is bonus exp. You don't load up an urn with salmon or tuna, but leftovers from while you're doing that skill. It's a pity you can only have 10 full urns at a time though. Would be nice to stack it all together in a bank and watch the numbers fly.
  11. Now this is fun emergent gaming. None of that fluff Jagex put up in one of their posts. Enjoy, and godspeed.
  12. Nop, why u so sound butthurt brah?
  13. They're getting tired of this game, but simply can't bring themselves to quit. They're the worn-out veterans who feel the gameplay has gotten stale and ought to move on to another game, yet they still keep playing Runescape. They'd rather believe the game is dying, in decline, or Jagex is going to hell in a picnic basket instead of logging out and swearing off it forever since they haven't the willpower to quit. All I'm hearing are complaints instead of alternative and constructive suggestions to improve the game. Heh.
  14. Perhaps it's exactly what it is: a prize-draw celebrating 10 years of Runescape. Nothing more, nothing less.
  15. On the contrary.
  16. This is the only thing that really applies. Everything else doesn't matter in reality because they are not staffed to handle such a flood of reports. EDIT: If they were to strictly enforce that then the entire clan I'm in would all be permanently muted.
  17. You are not the police. It's not your job to make sure everyone stays in line and conforms to your idea of gameplay or social interaction. It is your job, however, to make sure your own children grow up well. What others do isn't your responsibility but their own. So let them see the racist and sexist remarks that's been here since you were born - and let them do what they will from it. To put it bluntly: mind your own damn business. And while you're at it, learn to address your own prejudices that you so trippingly said in earlier posts. You really don't get how this works, do you. If it's in asterisks, Jagex will likely take no action. That means the filter is turned on and working so there's no point doing anything about it. And even if the filter were off, as long as they didn't circumvent the censor it's fine in their books. Therefore it is a waste of time to report.
  18. If the curses and slurs are aimed at you, it's offensive. Otherwise, who the hell cares? "Go to hell!" is offensive. "Oh hell no" isn't.
  19. Filter is automatically on. They'll have to manually disable it. As to that, it's up to the parents' discretion to decide for their child. Not you, not me, not anyone else. Unless Jagex wants to redirect things back on an elementary school level of security.
  20. Can we all refrain from hitting, please? Granted she provoked it, but I think some restraint is called for.
  21. This is a game. Why so serious?
  22. You have it the wrong way. If the filter is on, it will remain starred out. End of problem. If any of them now attempt to circumvent that "on" condition and are verbally hitting you, go ahead and fire up the report abuse if you've a mind to. Not that it'll do much anyway. I get wisecracks about gender plenty i.e. "go back to the kitchen" "want to be my gf" "there are no girls on the interwebs" and personally, I just shrug it off. It's been 10 years and this has been the attitude around for a long time. What else to expect from a game populated by kids having fun by running wild? Though I do get a touch more satisfaction after I disembowel them if they say that while I'm pking. Heheheh. This opens no can of worms. That's just making a mountain out of a molehill.
  23. If something is being botted to the point of no return, that means the gameplay mechanics involving it are broken. Meaning it's too much of a worthless grind and therefore not worth the time doing something more enjoyable. Now, if each tree were it's own short yet addicting minigame that, if you cut it a certain way yielded more experience, then it'd certainly be an improvement over the click-and-wait gameplay. Oh hell, turning a tree into one massive jenga pile, where if you and a few others cut the tree in the right way gave more logs and xp, would be more fun than what we currently have for many players. Same goes for fishing, or mining, or any number of botted skills. No one really "plays" a skill like woodcutting, where you, the player, are actively interacting with the game. Instead it's usually click a tree, do something else in real life or off-screen, then back to another tree. It doesn't take any skill at all to do resource gathering, unless you were to do them through activities that demand actual player skill i.e. level runecrafting and acquire runes by playing the Great Orb Project.
  24. The Duel Arena is a casino. That's what makes it so horrible yet so great at the same time. If you've had 2b+ for more than what looked like a very, very short period of time you might not be in your current funk, I think. You saw another world so close to your grasp only to get the rug pulled from under you. It sounds like you need a detox. Heh. Try this for a while, it was my - and my friends' - personal remedy. Go to the wild with nothing but food at the start, try to survive with whatever you can get your hands on or make out of nothing while up there, and live for as long as possible. You may only visit a bank twice. You may world hop to avoid pkers. Feel free to do whatever you want in the wild - just don't die. And if you do, log off and come back tomorrow. If the adrenaline doesn't clean out your system then I don't know what will.
