  1. Meanwhile the rest of us are sitting at the horse races laughing while we put all our money on the single horse we didn't sedate before the race. Plenty of people hardly have a problem with rigging things to work to their advantage as long as the poor sucker being fleeced remains willing.
  2. At that rate, it'd be like our government trying to stop Al Qaeda by out-terroristing them. "We're going to blow up two of your buildings" "Yea well we're going to level the entire state of Texas with a barrage of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles." Then we can all revel in how Jagex truly was not only the direct cause of their own death, but that suicide was the only thing they were truly efficient at. Hah. But what else can Jagex do to stay afloat as the years roll by and players migrate to other, newer games? I'm going to go out on a limb here and mention Steam and DRM. No one likes DRM apart from masochists. But Steam has made it so that it isn't really too much of an intrusion. People don't mind it due to how well they're serviced by the company. Then again Jagex is quite poor at the customer service department. EDIT: no it doesn't my levels and accomplishments are just as valuable to me even if joe shmoe botted and rwt'd to 2400 total and 4b bank. Being in a mmorpg obviously means people compare themselves so much to others. They'd be a lot happier if they didn't and just focused on how they like to play.
  3. The duel arena is like a casino. (And I love it.) Apart from the savvy ones, what you're seeing are just first-time gamblers getting dazzled by all the wealth they could possibly accumulate without really considering that they'd lose their own. The smarter ones quit while they're ahead and take their winnings to the bank. The luckier ones just keep going.
  4. From what I've heard from a real life friend who RWTs, the price is already nearly that low anyway. Jagex could very well offer such a low price that RWTers wouldn't feel like it's worth doing any longer, but on the same coin, I doubt Jagex, as a company, would as well. Also, looking from a different perspective, if Jagex sold gold for say $0.50/mil, there could be more of a profit loss from people getting fed up and quitting the game than the money that Jagex could make from RWT. Over half the price per mil than RWT websites AND something that will keep you from getting banned by Jagex? Hell yeah, I'm sure a lot of people would bite that bait. A lot of people would quit too, not to mention that it would totally screw the game economy if Jagex spawned gold to sell to people (leading to more quitters). Content. Actual, in-game content that doesn't really involve mindless grinding. Things like fighting Jad, or castle wars, or quests. Hell, even dungeoneering. That is the only way Jagex will be able to keep enough players in an ocean full of gold. Some of us do find chopping trees down and laying a trail of fire as relaxing and like the laid-back attitude compared to other MMORPGs. But going by the amount of bots in the game there is a sizeable population that clearly do not like the grind and just simply want to go straight into what they think of as the real game, i.e. pking. As for the 50cents per mil, it's something more along the lines of 25-30 cents per mil. And Jagex can beat the RWTers by offering good service and absolutely no risk of the account being compromised which dealing with RWTers sometimes does.
  5. Heh. You've got to hand it to the RWTers for being clever at fleecing the sheep. I'm sure they've sporadically hacked accounts here and there during the trade limit era, but this has got to be their biggest heist yet.
  6. Let's say the cash shop was offered only to paying members as they've proven they got the money to spend. F2P officially being it's own game wouldn't really be affected overmuch. (F2P is, when looked at outside of Jagex's statement as being otherwise, honestly a demo.) Of course, it'll open a whole can of new problems.
  7. A dollar, huh. 50 cents per million would definitely kill off all the RWT companies. And if Jagex were to host a legitimate way to buy cash you can be certain players would go to them since the service would be easier and at no risk to their accounts. An obvious consequence is the devaluation of currency and items, and a severe market crash. Among the impatient, the focus of the game would turn from grinding levels to access the actual content i.e. quests, clans, boss fights - into power-leveling to immediately get into what they'd consider the real meat of the game. Throw in an Eve Online-like trainer for members that automatically levels a chosen skill even when they're offline, and you'll see less cases of botting. The question then would be, does Runescape have enough of such content to keep those kind of players long-term? Hmm. Since this thread's opened the pandora's box, consider rares. You can be sure rares would crash if Jagex were to offer missed holiday items for cheap. From a money-grubbing business perspective, a cash shop with effective service and prices would solve all their problems. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see such a thing one day. But such a day is when Jagex will have sold it's soul to the devil. Then again, DeviousMud was the first instance of this game. I think Andrew's favorite words were cunning and devious.
  8. Either they recycled an old picture or began testing this before the hitsplats update. If the latter, then they had this planned a long time ago. If the former, well then. Laziness wouldn't be the right word, nor incompetence, but something between the two.
  9. Private off, public on hide, clan on for scouting/luring with the gang. The more time they spend typing insults at you, the higher the chance they'll misclick their next move. When I solo I'm a tank mage (high 60+ defence with 85+ magic) using obstacles or binds to break the opponent's speed. I don't fight rangers as a rule.
  10. Point. Yet a balancer's stats at 70+ all is enough to handle revenants if used well. Most people don't. It also boils down to gear and tactics. And most revenant hunters welfare. I don't generally talk when pking either. I'm in pvp to harass/kill, not chitchat in public.
  11. F2P doesn't have anything apart from dungeoneering bosses that can be considered anywhere close to difficult to fight. Looking forward to the pvp dungeon.
  12. Play this at the start of a dungeon, then start key-rushing. Mind you don't blow up your headphones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bby132VFgVY How do you like the price drop of certain items across the board? HehehehehaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAaaa--ahem. Free trade approaching, cheers!
  13. The dream is over. It's time to wake up. I've enjoyed the time I've spent with you. :) But it's time for me to go. Stay true to each other, as I have not. (I'm a villain, after all. Always have been evil.) You won't find me on Bio Ice, or Stephanie, or Pinata, or any of the other accounts you know. If you've liked the company you've kept in the time you've spent with me, carry on in another chat. For while it lasted, long live the Dragoons! (And yes, I am serious. As to why I say this now, you'll find out soon enough.) Adieu.
  14. Plenty of people already rush-key. Play more. There are also plenty of people who don't want to rush. Why? They simply don't want to, or want to take their time, or want to kill everything for the sake of completion, or as mentioned before, combat exp. If you can't grok it, then that's that. Their perspective would be too alien for you to imagine because they are different in the same way you cannot imagine playing the game "inefficiently." Just how it is. You do not get the full penalty even if the team average is above 90 combat. There is often a 3-5k difference without the penalty at full 35 prestige. Where a 120 would get 15k, you would get 18-20k. Might be a small difference, sure, but it counts. Exp is exp when you're without leeches, so might as well aim for 10%.
  15. When you play without leeches, even a piddly amount out of the level modifier helps. You can personally afford to rush since you're not affected by the penalty. And then there's the supply question - in a 90+ party the bosses deal enough damage that there's often not enough food to go around if the large is rushed. And no one except the kamikazes like to die. Go up against a 204 Shadowforger with only 10k and 10 dusk eels and see how you like it. And in world 7, people like the combat exp.
  16. Welcome to Runescape: Xbox Edition. The adventurer's log spam with dungeoneering was bad enough. Now we get annoying pop-ups. My interest in this game has been on the wane, but this just puts the cherry on the icing. I definitely won't be online much. Those of you sticking around, enjoy the game. As for safe mode, press S when the game is loading, Holiday.
  17. Sad to see there's no mention of actual skillers who do not afk. They do exist. One person? Heh. That's just pitiful in terms of active group effort. But when the payoff is an elimination of the penalty, of course the lot of you can shrug it off. Oh, and don't forget to mention the ones that multi-log, or end up botting the leecher account after they get 90+ dg. There's also the arrogance of leechers who go from f2p to p2p dging that comes from thinking they're elite. But hey, this is the gameplay style you chose, so enjoy it. Then you haven't yet experienced real pures who actually know how to pk playing around in dg. They rarely, if ever, die. And they're bloody fast as well. Then again, they're a rare breed. The other two statements -- on food and ragequitting -- are true of all combat levels. Helpfulness is subjective. We understand this very well. From our viewpoint, it's simply boring to keep fighting level 30-50 monsters, the risk becomes negligible and the grind becomes noticeable. For my part I've had any number of p2p friends come along and laugh at how ridiculously easy it gets with the 2 126 and 3 leecher setup. Your brethren from w61 have already labeled it as trash, thanks. Logic from the viewpoint of someone who desires the most exp they can get out of their time and nothing else. I used to play this way a long time ago - but now my way of playing is different from yours, so we'll inevitably end up in conflict. Go your way in peace, and I'll go mine.
  18. Emily has a post stating this is a no update week. You may find it here (QC code: 16-17-356-61912818)
  19. Keep hanging about in world 61 and you'll rot. Sure, you stay there because of friends and the guild, but don't you sometimes get the feel it's stale now? What I'm getting out of that place, it feels like a tomb. Go visit other worlds, Genie. Try to approach the skill with a different mindset. Some of us like the Hell-bent atmosphere. I know for a fact I thrive in chaotic places like world 7. Places like it and 117 keep me from being bored. It's a little like how the guild once was, at least to me, before the constant stacking and habitual breaking. Gods I miss those days. Then again, Genie is Genie. You're not like me. It's one of the reasons why I didn't ask to take you with me to world 1 when the skill started up. Well, most of the old clan wouldn't have fit either, the stress would've knocked them back into world 61. I felt the lot of you had gotten used to easy games. Can you imagine Coolster throwing a raging tantrum all the time because of her teammates? If you want a change of pace, pm me in-game sometime.
  20. Sounds like the boy is miffed that no bootlicker worships his cape. Poster child for the bad sort of elitist p2per. Had better not be Thief's friend. Feh. Nice V formation.
  21. It's to celebrate Cyborg getting his 3rd bind.
  22. Floor 10+ are when the larges start in world 7 for those who have the time - and their combat is often below 89 so no experience cap. The trouble has always been recruiting. It's not a common thing.
  23. Hooh. So that's why you seem familiar. That keying order works well enough. You've got access now, been added. Join the name you mentioned.
