  1. laws are and have to be based on morality(well maybe not in a state like in some distopia novels) things such as murder is wrong rape is wrong etc. are morally based even if they are unanimously excepted.
  2. They were going to have a School Board vote whether to teach evolution or intelligent design in Kansas. that happened a while ago I believe, how do you think the church of the flying spaghetti monster came about? intelligent design in schools was however a mistake, if it was at all a scientific theory it would belong in science; however, we should allow the debate of creation evolution intelligent design etc in schools within history/philosophy or wherever it is appropriate. edit religion is on the decline in general, and education is moving away from teaching anything but evolution. Paranoid much?
  3. socialist, structure would be similair to americas but a much stronger executive(weaken before I die for obvious reasons) legalize marijuana, prostitution keep a strong enough military to prevent outside threat give a f*** about the people so things actually turn out well.
  4. what the pope said was to the effect of "condoms will not help stop the aids epidemic because it will just cause more people to have sex which will indirectly lead to more unsafe sex and so on" Not to say the pope is correct, but what you stated was an intentional, blatant, and false spinning of what he said. Then equalize the legal benefits.
  5. [hide=] And they should also pay taxes. By the same standard, does a shop owner have the right to tell a black person that he can't buy anything from his store because he's black? If yes, well at least you're being consistent. I understand the freedom of institutions standpoint but at the same time rights of individuals are more important in my opinion. EDIT: Actually, the example is slightly different because many people consider marriage to be a *right*, whereas being able to buy from a store arguably isn't. If anything this strengthens the position. Should the Church be able to go against what the government/people deem to be basic human rights? [/hide] you have the right to love/marry whoever you want you have the right to not be barred from businesses based on race/gender etc. however, a religious institution should never be required to recognize the legitimacy of something they disagree with. If a church does not approve of homosexuality, then why do homosexuals want that church to recognize them? If someone doesnt like you, you certainly wont follow them around begging for them to be your friend because it wouldnt make sense. on the taxation, churches should not be taxed because they are not a business. All or nearly all of church money is spent on programs, charity work, or improvements involving the church community so there is no reason to tax the money. Secondly, the role of the government is to protect its citizens and provide for the common welfare(to generalize); the government derives its power from the citizens not the other way around. Taxes are taken to provide for the running of the government and to varying extents to aid those with less money. How will taking away from the ability of a charitable organization to help the less fortunate ever help anyone? edit--what church is tax funded? If its the church of england then bare in mind Im talking about America and would have some different thoughts on that. as clarification, you have the right to be married in the legal sense, ex. next of kin status and the other protections; however, you have no right to be married in the church of your choosing just the right to the certificate/legal status.
  6. the idea of the atom was proposed back in greek times well before it could be explained, turns out (I think aristotle) was correct. Now, thats not to say there is a backing for gods existence, but its foolish to act you like you are proving god wrong. Its always going to end up as a simple difference of opinion, since you cant prove or disprove the existence of any god. You cant point out flaws in the bible or quaran or torrah and so on but that doesnt mean that no god exists. For instance, I am agnostic believing that either a. there is no god and therefore fatalism exists or b. there is a god but he is either a deist type god or in some way limited in power.
  7. UN, defintion--all bark no bite lets consider their strict response to the problems in darfur and pre 2003 their prevention of the cruelties of the hussein government.
  8. Each post was warranted, it's that big of a deal. not really, while there were plenty of legitimate points in their I didnt see anything particularly amazing. the fact that gay rights in itself is considered secondary to any other topic is fantastic in it's own. Why the [bleep] are they considered secondary to anything. and your point it? That still didnt need 3 posts On topic, anyone want to guess how long it will be till most US states legalize gay marriage?
  9. act writing was very very easy prompt to write on so I would advise that
  10. Each post was warranted, it's that big of a deal. not really, while there were plenty of legitimate points in their I didnt see anything particularly amazing.
  11. nut chopping and punny humor how I love the internet
  12. legitimate concern based on past behavior, NK has been displaying antagonistic behavior so one must assume the missle could have been a threat.
  13. agreed, religion doesnt contradict science, but dogma very often does.
  14. You really think its that complex? The girl wanted to be popular/accepted by [high school] society that she posed nude. What I call a [bleep]. and she chose to look popular by posing nude because her self esteem is low, goddess just said the more formal explanation. on topic goddess--the law doesnt need to be repealed, just revised to take into consideration the problems with cell phones and "self abuse".
  15. so doing charity work because "god would want it" would be a bad thing? Maybe it doesnt make you a good person, but I doubt someone is going to complain if the meal you give them isnt 100% holy.
  16. I think david and goliath is considered to be possibly true, just because a lot the bible around that point is basically a history book.
  17. North Korea is ranked fourth in the world in terms of active troops. my bad, but how advanced is that army? 50 modern infantry with rifles would take out out 1000 guys with clubs easily, and I dont think North Korea really has the support to pull anything off.
  18. It says nowhere in the Bible that God is perfect, just all-knowing. if he knows all then he should have known what not to do, if he is all powerful he could compress time to give himself an infinite amount of time to contemplate but were getting off topic
  19. 1. zetsuba billy by maximum the hormone 2. lust for blood by gackt on topic any thoughts on the idealness of a lever action rifle such as the winchester 30 30?
  20. [hide=] QFT. Religion holds back civilization. no it doesn't. people hate gays because they hate gays. (stupid but true.) i'm atheist and i'm strictly against gay people and their cultures. People hate gays because people say that god said they should. The Bible Argument is [cabbage]. The Bible also says that he who works on the Sabbath will have to be put to death. Unfortunately, I must go to school during the Sabbath. Do I have to kill myself, or can I turn myself in? Reference points, anyone? No, that was part of the Old Testament, which was under the old covenant with God, where the laws were supposed to have the people were to love and worship Him through their actions in carrying out what was in the laws. That didn't work out, the people became more focused on carrying out the law and rituals than they were on God Himself. God then created a new Covenant where the people were't focused on Law, but being like Christ, where they would love people as well as God. ---------------- Listening to: Demon Hunter - Through the Black [/hide] so god changed his mind? That would seem to entail him having made a miscalculation. however, homophobia is cultural not religious. Although it will in some ways correlate especially now the reason is that religion mimics the culture of its founders. Racism was inbued into souther churches pre american civil war not because its in their but because thats what the churchgoers wanted. Homophobia is basically social awkwardness at an extreme level, not justified of course but I really get annoyed at the throw religion under the bus games. As a second mimic example, deism was largely formed from scientific/intellectual communities so its basis is very scientific/intellectual. You wouldnt say a deist is scientific because they are a deist, you would say they are scientific because they are logical or whatever. Similairly, a homophobic religious person is homophobic not because of a book, but because they simply are. Mod Edit: Please don't write whole posts in a single colour. It might get incredibly hard to read in different styles.
  21. WWIII. Ha. The only thing that would result from NK launching a nuke would be the creation of a gigantic crater above SK. Most likely it's not even a nuke, but if it is, they're not using it on SK. The thing is, the first country to launch a nuke is going to get gang raped by everyone, but do you know if NK has allies? Well China and Russia are allied with them to an extent.
  22. pm about the ratios, I thought it was a neat problem(we may have had dif ones though) edit-- one thing I noticed, some of the questions overlapped a bit too much. To not give away too much, I noticed I kept solving two or three problems through the same exact method or at least the same approach. 2nd edit-- as advice to anyone about to take these kinds of tests, on the english/reading sections dont try to read the entire passage, read what you have to per question, but read enough around it to pick up context.
  23. The US is unlikely to overreact, the last thing I would expect out of Obama is an overly harsh approach. Unlikely this will amount to anything, North Korea doesnt have the army to back up an attack on anyone; however, the international community needs to find a way to deal with it.
  24. took ACT this morning english and math I felt turned out amazingly reading was hardest part(just annoying to read passages) science was annoying to read graphs on the essay, I managed to reference the movie "The Last Samurai" \ On the math, I noticed a single truly pre calc question a log, a lot of basic trig stuff from geometry, but nothing really difficult. If you know your reference triangles there were only two problems that required any real thought(not allowed to talk about) oh, there was a lot of basic factoring
  25. We all acknowledge she technically broke the law here, but justice isnt a wall of text. The laws she broke were designed to protect children from abuse, the lady who wanted the law said this is ridiculous, and finally we are using the courts to give children a time out. The only person she hurt by this was herself, so why should she be punished?
