Zombie Plans-Revised
People float because they are mostly water. Have you ever tried walking in more than a few feet of water? It's extremely hard. A little current and you aren't going to go anywhere else but with the current. Ah, I see now. So there is a small chance of a zombie decaying enough that its not a high enough percentage of water, and therefore can walk underwater, but it wont happen often. Unless the zombie is pretty much nothing but bone, it'll still float. And even if it did sink, there's still the issue of being able to actually walk. Not floating does not mean it's rooted to the ocean floor. But, if there was somehow a zombie wearing, say, heavy boots or some other heavy object (bling bling, perhaps) it might be able to actually walk around. And, still, there's the issue of the intense pressure at the bottom of the ocean turning the zombie into mush. No amount of decay can prevent that. Soo....zombiefied chavs walking into shallow coastline = bad. Well, they have to be intelligent to climb an anchor in the first place. Does intelligence carry over to zombification? If it does, I'm pretty safe, everyone around here will probably begin trying to eat the walls instead of me.... intelligence wouldn't carry over. That is a part of the guide I have some doubts about, I dont see a zombie climbing an anchor chain unless there is no current. If your in a lake I can see a half bouyant zombie making its way to the top of a chain but if you have any current its going to slip off.

Worst way to die
Crucifiction would be the worst if it was being done with the intent to make it awful. If you gave the person a platform so they would last a while, drove [bleep]es through their hands for pain(you tie arms since wrists won't hold weight) and set them out in the sun it would be awful. eaten alive by something like rats that can't bite vital organs would be awful; something like a tiger wouldn't be as bad since they would bite a major artery pretty early on.

[hide=] That ironically enough if god doesn't exist you are entirely correct. How so? The same question applies to shinjula. I'm sure you can perceive a "self" if there's no god. It's not like you stop existing when god does. Um, actually I'm not at all convinced I can perceive a self. I was brought up in a western home and so I did always consider myself to be.. myself, but as I've started thinking about it it all just seems to fall away. It seems to me that people convinced themselves that there is something there and by doing that, create effects which would mirror a reality where there was a self, but I've tried to live without a self as much as I can (given how much ones beliefs are settled during childhood) and I really reckon it IS just an illusion. Now I'd like to speak about some things which are common in Buddhism, but not really accepted elsewhere, please dont immediately jump down my throat if they dont happen to agree with the way you see reality, but equally do feel free to ask questions. Everything is connected, everything is one. Ok this may sound a bit etheric and meaningless, but let me elaborate. If you get a friend to take two compass points and place them gently on your arm, say 5 cm apart, you will be able to feel them separate and distinct,, now close your eyes and repeat it with the compass points closer together, at some point you will only feel one compass point - and when you open your eyes you will probably be surprised how far apart they are, this is because nerves in your arm are spaced quite far apart, between 1 and 2 cm (Odd experiment I know, but worth doing simply for the surprising result) What I'm showing here is that what you perceive as continuous parts of you, are actually held together by illusion. You perceive that your body's feelings are continuous, despite the brain filling in the gaps. So being able to feel a part of you is not required in order for you to consider it part of you. It;s even more obvious when you consider that you cant feel (for the most part) your teeth, but they are considered part of you, when your foot falls asleep you dont consider it no longer part of you ,although I would guess many of you find the feeling very odd simply because it does kinda FEEL like its not part of you, yet you know enough to dismiss that feeling, when your foot goes to sleep you know it will wake up and rejoin you, and you certain dont poke at it repeatedly with a sharp knife even though it wont hurt, because you know you will suffer the consequences. To me the world is like that. I know that there is no inherent difference between my foot and the table, the foot is no more part of me than the table it is, or alternately the table is as much part of me as my foot is. The molecules of the table as constantly in flux, surface molecules ping off into space to mix with the molecules of everything else. The molecules of my foot are even more in flux, the skin replaces itself completely every seven years, and the tissue of my foot is made from the food I eat. The Physical part of the universe has no inherent boundaries, when you touch an item you feel as though you are touching it, yet this too is an illusion, the atoms are filled with space and what actually occurs is an electrical repulsion from the electrons, there is no connection there at all, or at least the very same sort of connection that exists within your own body. Moving on to the world of ideas, its the same story, nothing which I consider to be myself is constant, or in any way mine. My ideas and my beliefs are scavenged from other people, and when I do have ones of my own they are simply repetitions and alterations of other ideas which have come before me. Obviously when I first had this thought I did upset me quite a bit. I work as a sculptor and creativity is very important to me, but I realised its actually a great thing, it gives me a sense of continuity with the past. I dont know how many of you have experienced this sort of thing, but I find my thoughts are not my own either. Often then come unbidden about subjects I have no interest, my mind wanders on its own. Odd trivia pops up on its own and even when I think about stuff deliberately the thoughts I have do not seem part of me. People also talk of qualities inherent to themselves, things which make up their personality, which make them them. And from my own life I believe this to be one more illusion. I have not found it the case that I have any of those. I have changed so much in my life, all qualities I have seen in my life have changed over time, both naturally and in response to circumstances. I am currently a very tense person I react quickly to events as they come. I am creative, and intelligent. I am quick to anger and slow to diffuse. However if I look at myself only a year ago and I was completely different. I was depressed, quiet, interested in reading, distrusting of people. And then the year before that I was vivacious, fabulous and flamboyant. I was relaxed and vibrant. Each year I am different. You might be tempted to say, therefore I am a quixotic person, yet I have had periods of stability in my life too, for five years I was a very quiet studious person, before that was another period of rapid change. So I claim nothing in my personality as my own, they are merely as surface qualities as what clothes I wear. And I claim nothing in the physical world as my own either. To me the Universe is a field effect. I am simply part of one gigantic whole. Imagine a wave on the ocean. You see the wave and think it is an object, yet as the wave travels forwards the individual water atoms stay where they are, just moving up and down, the atoms in the water never move with the wave. The wave is just an illusion, as am I... ...well you did ask :) [/hide] I'm trying to decide what to call this; fatalism isn't appropriate since this is clearly different then saying everything happens in a predetermined order. Of course, my only critique of that is that the self is a mechanism of the brain used to self distinguish and organize data. If we couldn't tell the difference between I and you then the obituary page would be rather terrifying. It figures I would read Siddhartha weeks before having a discussion about the existence of a self; I swear god has a sense of humor.

Sarah Palin resigns as Alaska's governor
a. I dont have dial up so I genuinly can't watch videos b. Sean Hannity is an idiot I'm referencing the fact that you said someone who didn't believe in evolution wouldn't believe in global warming; sorry if I wasn't clear. Only if they are taught in science as two possibilies; as I said a post or two back this type of thing should be dealt with in a philosophy class. I believe global warming is happening. My faults lie firstly in the fact that I dont see the human race being at risk of destruction, not that I doubt some potentially bad side effects. Secondly, I have my doubts about the extent to which humans are at fault. Obviously, we are increasing the CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, and I agree that does induce global warming. Of course, the fear tactic used to try and reduce emissions ignores any thought that there could be other factors(such as patterns in sun spots). If the videos are talking about a divide in the scientific community then see note a; I think everyone agrees the scientific community is in agreement about that. If the videos are talking about the opinions of the general population then there is quite a (unfortunate) divide about what people believe. Im digging up the statistic now, I think something like 60% of americans don't believe in evolution. edit--heres the link; its 60% dont believe evolution to be definetely true http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/bigphotos/21329204.html

Is God real post your thoughts!
rebuttles in bold Humans claim that God is all-loving, and they don't mean by his standards. What you're doing is explaining away the problem with a cop out. Thst was actually a joke. I didn't really mean for you to take it seriously. Hence the " " Whether or not Satan had free will is beside the point. I'm saying that God made Satan knowing he would tempt Adam and Eve and God put the tree in the garden, so he set us up knowing we would fail when he could have bypassed the test all together. As I said: Added, he seemed to be shocked when Adam and Eve ate the fruit. Why would an all-knowing being be shocked by anything? Why would a supposedly perfect being even need to create anything, let alone need your worship every Sunday? That's really beside the point, though. That whole Sunday Mass thing was developed by humans. Some like to say we do it because God rested after creating the world on a Sunday. Some like to say because it's the first day of the week we give it to God. And I said this before, but, some people believe some Bible stories merely explain the "why" everything is as it is rather than "how." Not to say the Bible is lying, but, we really can't know how the world was created. God also created humans because He loved us. Simple as that. Did He need to? Probably not. Did He want to? I guess. Okay then, so anything in the bible might be a complete fabrication to teach a point. Of course since we now can't trust the "holy" book to be telling the truth about anything we might as well assume jesus didn't exist since his suffering just teaches a lesson. Secondly; that isn't an answer to the question of how god could be shocked if he was all knowing As for the point on viruses, so I take it you feel Ebola, let's say as a means of population control, is perfectly congruent with an all-loving being? Why would an all-loving being afflict his children in such a way? Why would an all-loving being even need population control? That concept doesn't make sense, not to mention how sick and twisted it is. So you're saying life is sick and twisted? A cat eats a bird. Does that make the cat sick or twisted? It's just another "creature" out there trying to do what it does best. Does it do it with malice or hate? No. It just does it to survive. No, the concept that god would need to create suffering to ensure life is what is being called sick and twisted(I dont necessarily agree). A simple solution(assuming intelligent design) would be to make human fertility drop drastically in case of severe malnutrition. Let's say his motives for creating such a virus were so that we could figure out how to combat the virus... hold on a minute, how does that make it better at all? If that were the case, it's like giving people guns to kill each other, but justifying it by saying they have the ability to dismantle the guns to stop the killing. I'm not really against the idea of a God in general, I just think there are a lot of things about Christian theology that make no sense. The Ebola Virus has the ability to be the median in delivering medicine to humans. I'm not sure if it is still in testing or not, but, that's what I read. Viruses can have more use than just defending people from the more harmful aspects of itself. Yes, and it doesn't look like you addressed the other point I made either: Is that really fair? Would it be fair for your children to pay for your crimes? As for the "skip life" and everyone just goes to Heaven. God is still giving us help, which shows He is benevolent. Was it ever said that the help would be instant? Maybe we just need to have a little patience. God made us, and He knew everything would happen as it did. He let it happen because it was our choices that made it happen. Sending us to Heaven would be the same as if He "modified" our "blueprints" and made us perfect "robots." Let me put it this way You have a dog in a maze and you have some controls that let you alter the maze in certain ways. You can either choose to give the dog a clear path(still rather long and tiresome) or let the dog take an equally long path with lots of tacks on the floor. Would you consider it benevolent to choose the route with the tacks since your still letting him get to the end?

Birds aren't self-aware, meaning they don't have the capacity for introspection. How do we know what birds know? The frontal lobe is thought to be the epicenter for personality and cognition. In most animals, with exception to some mammals, the frontal lobe is almost nonexistent. That is still not proof that birds are self-aware. What if the frontal lobe in birds isn't the epicentre for personality and cognition? There is also the test involving a mirror. Basically you put a wrong colored sticker on the tested animal and place it in from of a mirror. If birds(for example) will pick at the sticker after seeing in mirror it proves they understand that they are the bird in the mirror.

Sarah Palin resigns as Alaska's governor
Yes an ignorant post about how the media was hyped up about the ice age 30 years ago...just like they are hyped up about global warming now. So teaching creationism(which I never said should be involved with science just philosophy) is now causing people to not believe in global warming...would it be cheesy to call that a flaming strawman?

Sarah Palin resigns as Alaska's governor
This; in fact a decent philosophy class at something like 9th grade would do wonders for public education. Care to tell me why many estimates are saying the earth is going to cool for the next few years then? Also, since environmental science works so well why were we warned about the incoming ice age 30 years ago? and you are trying to stop it because you hate anyone that dares to disagree with one of your positions.

Is God real post your thoughts!
Which doesn't dissolve the fact that it would be better for all parties to send everyone straight to heaven without passing earth and imparting knowledge to them. It's like the parent metaphor, you wouldn't necessarily go back to stop your child from doing something wrong; but if you could teach them not to do something without them having to be harmed you would. Secondly, the bible says that at the end of time god will damn people for eternity; that means they can't choose to accept him at a later time.

What Ross said. Melee weapon training. Better yet, we spend time developing a martial art specifically for fighting zombies. Yes I know they bite, the point is to develop a judo type style designed to avoid bite injuries and push away the attacker.

Scientists create 'test-tube' sperm
This is rather impressive, but like any technology that lets infertile people have genetic children I have a certain distate for it. I do commend the scientists for pulling this off, but I have to wonder what the point is. I never did understand why people are so obsessive about having children that share their bloodline. Seriously, if you adopt a kid from an orphanage or whatever they dont grow up into a homicidal maniac because their parents have different dna. /rant In all seriousness the discovery is cool but I rather dislike the field; I wish more scientists would focus on "beneficial" research.

That ironically enough if god doesn't exist you are entirely correct. How so? The same question applies to shinjula. I'm sure you can perceive a "self" if there's no god. It's not like you stop existing when god does. I was thinking on the lines of atheistic fatalism; if there is no god then logically everything is predetermined series of events over which we have no control. ...man is that morbid. Lets say that's true. If life was predestined to develop exactly as it has and each and every one of us was destined to be because of collisions and attractions between particles, does that make me any less of an individual? Does that mean I have no self? That is open to interpretation; you have a conciousness, but in a sense it is an illusion. While your self clearly exists, its not a soul or anything special; we could consider this an illusion of physics Im playing devil's advocate for the record
