Teleportation and Star Trek: A Future Reality?
Fixed. Theres no reason to think you are getting an authentic story from any newspaper or magazine or TV news report. They either cut information, reword information to make it sound more exciting, or dumb down information.

Cochlear Implants
I think the cochlear is a wonderful invention just like cosmetic surgery. If you need that to be happy with your life, then so be it. It should be there for those who want it. Those who are old enough to make an informed decision about it. Even if there was a 100% hearing aid it would still be ridiculous to let people freely implant it in their babies. It would be like taking brown eyed babies and giving them an irreversible procedure to have blue eyes. Also, for those of you who haven't looked for it: THIS is what people are doing to their babies. One final remark before I go to bed. "Deafness" is not universally the same. We see the word "Deaf" and immediately imagine having noise cancellation earphones on for our whole life. This is not the case for all deaf people. Some Deaf people have absolutely no ear activity, but many have some degree of natural funtionality. Some people think that "hard of hearing" is the term youd use for that, but "hard of hearing" refers to people who can naturally or almost naturally make out conversation. Some Deaf people can even enjoy music. Not in the sense of the way we hear it, but the vibrations still make it to their ears, and they hear/feel a sound. But if you get the cochlear, guess what. It's gone. They tunnel into your head and destroy all of your natural hearing for the computer "hearing".

Cochlear Implants
Oh no...ugh. This thread is going to be filled with people who have absolutely no idea what ASL is, what deaf people are like, what it is like to be deaf, or what the cochlear implant does. First of all, let me set one thing straight for all who are going to read this thread: the cochlear implant does NOT let you hear! The cochlear sends signals to the brain that you can learn to interpret. You CAN NOT HEAR LIKE A HEARING PERSON DOES. To someone who has had hearing all their life, it would basically sound like listening to the world through a tin can...mixed with static. Secondly, deafness is NOT a disability. Hearing is only a sense that you may or may not have. Some people claim to have psychic powers. Do those people look at all of us and say "Look at all these disabled people!". The only reason deafness is a disability is because people are too stubborn and impatient to learn sign language. You might say that deaf people lack the ability to hear, but THEY would say that YOU lack the ability to NOT hear. Think of the times that you were sitting in an airplane having to cope with a crying baby. Think of the times that you were trying to communicate with someone through a window or in another car or at a noisy party. Think of being woken up at 5AM due to construction outside your window. There are many situations where I would definitely envy the Deaf. Something else you can gain from Deaf people is INCREDIBLE social interaction. You can't just stand infront of someone and look around at distractions and end up barely giving the person your attention. You stand face to face and engage in deep meaningful concentrated social interaction. Some of my most memorable and enjoyable social events have been with Deaf people. Lastly, there is no evidence that supports your crazy theory of them not being able to learn English later in life. Consider this. You can A) Force your baby to get the implant, and MAYBE he will be able to learn how to use it (probably NOT...MOST cochlear implantees will not develop English very well at all). But if he CANNOT cope with his cochlear he will miss the golden window of language learning in the first few years of his life. If a person does not fully learn a language in the first years of his life, his cognitive abilities will be lower and he stands a good chance of never learning sign language. OR B.) You can teach your freakin DEAF KID how to sign the language that will come easy and naturally to him. Hell, we are even reccomending that we teach HEARING BABIES sign language...Babies can start signing as young as 6 months old, and learning language at such a young age has been proven to increase general intelligence. If any of you would like to increase your understanding of the Deaf, I can reccomend 3 books: "Deaf World" "Deaf Again" and "The Mask of Benevolence" I guarantee you that any of those 3 books will convince you that it is much better to have a fully cognitive child than to have a panic attack over how he is "different" and drill a hole in his damn head and force him to hear robot noises all his life. Getting in shape for Wrestling
How much help do you need in the realm of exercises? I'll talk about the basic ideas, assuming that you have knowledge about how to exercise. There are 3 main principles to training for wrestling. 1. Strength 2. Agility 3. Power At first it might sound like 1 and 3 are the same thing, but think of "power" as a combination of speed and strength. For example, "power" would be seeing how much weight you can toss across the room. You need to deliver a lot of strength in a short time. "Strength" on its own would be more like seeing how much you can bench press. 1. Strength--For your strength training you should do low reps. No more than 3 reps per set. Try to move as much weight as possible. Bench press, squat, deadlift, leg press, even hamstring curl. Basically any exercise you can think of would probably be beneficial. 2. Agility--For this you are going to do things like jump rope, work with the medicine ball, swiss ball, bosu ball. Also you should probably do something that I know by the name of a "beep test". This is where you sprint back and forth between two lines that are 20 meters apart. 3. Power--For this you do things that require explosive energy. Olympic lifts can be good for this (clean+jerk, snatch). You can also do things like jump up stairs (2-3 stairs at a time) with both feet together. You also want to do push-ups where you push off the ground and clap. There is also a 4th aspect of wrestling: "weight management". This is probably nothing to worry about until you start wrestling. If you want to add mass, youre gonna want to lift weights for 6-8 reps. If you start wrestling I am sure your coach will teach you how to make weight. For a 3 day training schedule, try somethng like: Day 1--Upper body strength, then cardio Day 2--Lower body strength, then cardio Day 3--Agility and Power Whew. There you go. If you need anything more specific than this you should probably consult a wrestling coach.

What would you sporty/fit people recommend...
It IS frustrating sometimes with people who know mostly nothing. Whats even more frustrating is when people are fooled by Hollywood promises of 6-pack abs and rock hard glutes by using some phony exercise product for 10 minutes a day. But, really, you can't blame people for their health misconceptions. Sure, theyd be able to find the real information if they tried to, but without even trying, people get bombarded by useless junk all the time (hell, as I am typing this up, a commercial came on for those "shape up" shoes that promise to get you in shape by just wearing them -.- ) We teach lots of great stuff in schools, but it is pathetic how little we teach people about perserving their own body (or what it takes to achieve above-average fitness)

Okay. I can work with that. It helps to understand your motivations for why you arent looking for something so "intensive". I was suggesting other more strict programs because they are not much harder, and will get you faster results. But I understand now that you are actually looking for a SMALL program that WILL give you slow results and with a tiny commitment. I can definitely help with that. The only thing you are going to need is a dumbell set like the one I linked above. Two dumbbell bars, and get like...40 lbs worth of plates (like 20 kg...you use kg right?) so you can go up to 20 lbs (10 kg) per arm. Make sure that you get plates that screw on, so you can change the weight for different exercises, and change weight. You should get small plates like 2.5 lb (1 kg) so you can have the most ammounts of weight on each side (you can do 5, 7.5, 10, etc...if you got 5 lb plates you could only do 10, 15, 20, etc) Heres a short and simple exercise program. For each exercise, do it for 45 seconds at a moderate pace, then take 15 seconds of rest. 1. Push-ups 2. Bicep curls (both arms at the same time) 3. Tricep skull-crushers (http://www.5min.com/Video/Strength-Training-Workout---Dumbbell-Skull-Crushers-149453999) 4. Crunches or situps 5. Military press or side lateral raise. 6. Supermans ( )7. Dumbbell squats--start doing these with just body weight ( ) Once you get through the 7 exercises, rest for a minute, then do the whole list again. So the entire workout takes 15 minutes. If you are looking for a little more commitment than this, just do the list one more time. Make sure to count how many reps you do in the 45 seconds. Every time you exercise you should either try to get more reps in the 45 seconds, or increase the ammount of weight. (Notice I said TRY to do more. You probably wont actually accomplish it EVERY workout, but the important thing is to push for it EVERY time) Do this at least 3 days per week, but no more than 5 days. For cardio, you can run, row, or stair climb. Do it for 30 minutes at the best pace that you can. Do the cardio either directly after your weight training, or on the days that you dont do weights. Make sure there is at least one day per week when you dont do either cardio or the strength routine. Also make sure to watch what you eat. You need proper fuel to complement your exercise. Eat lots of protein (chicken, beef, tuna, eggs, milk, cheese, etc) and eat vegetables and fruits with every meal. Good luck.

You sound like 95% of the people who are coming into the gym and asking me for help. People see me and ask me for help cause theyve been doing their routine for 6 months and have gotten no results. Then I tell them what they need to do to make progress and they say "That doesnt sound right for what I want." Then they keep doing the same stupid routine that they feel comfortable with and they keep seeing a miniscule ammount of progress or no progress at all. Go ahead and do whatever you want. Ignore the advice that sounds too hard for you. Eventually maybe youll realise that you should listen to people with more experience, or maybe youll just stubbornly keep doing it your way and say what most people say: "Dang, I wish I had better genetics! Cant make any progress..." And I'm not suggesting something "heavy on the chest". First of all, a weight bench is good to have for many different body parts. Secondly, I just wanted to list the bench as one of the many examples of equipment that you will need to have acess to in order to make progress after getting rid of your initial weakness.

I really don't understand. You come here because you want advice for getting the fitness that you want. You ask us because we know more than you. Then you say that in your opinion my advice is wrong. If you knew what you were doing, you wouldn't be here asking for help. To get the look you want, you need to do around 3 exercises per body part, using weight that is heavy for you, for 6-8 reps, 3 sets of each exercise. Also "A 30 minute run" doesn't mean you have to run really fast the whole time. Or even jog. It just means that you get out there and give it your best for 30 minutes. If you can only jog for 5 of those minutes then that is fine, just keep with it and youll be able to start running more and more of the time. Just get out there for a half hour and walk with as much running/jogging as possible. You need to keep pushing for the whole 30 minutes though.

Lets say this is you: Lets say this is what you want: To get from the first picture to the second picture, you would use a muscle building routine with heavy weights. Bench press, chest fly, dumbbell curls, tricep extensions, military press, squats, deadlift, pullups, etc...All would be good exercises to build the muscle. You want to do heavy weights for 6-8 reps. If you can do 9 reps with a weight, you need to increase the weight. If you want to also increase your cardiovascular health, then simply run for 30 minutes after you get done lifting weights. Doing nothing but press-ups and running and swimming and rowing is not going to get you a swimmers body if you currently look like that scrawny guy. Bench presses are not going to instantly make you look like this:

And we, the people who have more fitness experience than you, are telling you that tone muscle is A LIE. I am sorry. It is false. It was invented by the media and commercialization of phony workout equipment. Toning does not exist. How about you show me a picture of a person who has a body that you would like to have? Like a celebrity or male model. I can assure you that they did bench press movements. There are two things you can do to make your body look better: lose fat or gain muscle. Toning is a myth. Your muscles do not have "slack" in them. The only way to "pull your stomach in flatter" is to lose fat. I'm not saying that you can't get the look that you want. I'm saying that the look you want is going to come with a classic muscle building strength routine probably. I guarantee that you THINK you want "tone" but what that actually entails is just simply building the muscle.

"Who wants to be my GF/BF" - Any of you?
This is like saying people are [developmentally delayed]ed for fishing in Runescape because it doesn't compare to real life fishing... I don't think its unnatural to want your lonely avatar to have a companion. Its a role playing game...why is it pathetic to make yourself a little depth with your character? Thats how I see it at least...But maybe I dont understand. Do you guys think that people are dating their CHARACTERS or are they asking the PERSON out? Like if someone asked you out IRL you're supposed to say "no ty i have a Runescape bf"? If thats the case, then that is really creepy... But I see no problem creating a fictional love for your character.

Toning is a myth. The muscle gets bigger or smaller. Bench pressing is not going to take you from your wimpy chest to a barrel chest. Whatever you want your chest to look like, a bench will help get you there. This is something that I see women being guilty of. "Well I dont want to be big and bulky, just "toned". So I'm gonna do low weight exercises with a high ammount of repetition" It is just a flat out myth. If you want your muscles to change their appearance, you have to do heavy lifts.

Can I get some advice on this workout?
I think the issue is that they don't let him use the Smith machine or something. So the options are dumbell squats or forget squatting and use the leg machines only. Not sure what the best approach would be. Im actually a huge fan of this squat: This type of squatting motion is more natural for the human body. Well, maybe "natural" isnt the right word...maybe "practical"? I mean, this would be the type of motion a cave man would use when he was moving rocks around and such. Just make sure to use the biggest weight you could imagine holding.

I dont know how it is where you live, but here it is really expensive to buy weights. And theres a gym near me that charges 25 dollars per month. Gyms have tons of accessible equipment that can help target muscles. I mean if you really want to though, definitely make sure to buy bars with plates so that you can adjust the weight. Weights are usually priced by the pound. So for 2 20 pound dumbells it would be 40 bucks. For 2 15 lb dumbells it would be $30. So to have a set of 20 and 15, it would cost $70. Or, if you buy adjustable plates, you just need 40 lbs of plates and would save almost 50%. Should be something like this You should also look into getting a bench I mean really though, gyms are great. If you are looking to tone your chest, youll be doing bench press. Within a few months of training youll be able to bench your bodyweight...so in weight plates alone you'll be looking at a $150+ investment, plus the bench and the bars and stuff. It gets expensive.

Can I get some advice on this workout?
Some people really love to do a quick 10 minute cardio warm up. I personally dont like it at all. I just stick to stretching and limbering up my joints. For example before my chest+tri day, I stretch chest, triceps, shoulders, and back. Then to limber up my joints I grab a 5 pound weight and do some shoulder movements. And before I do the bench press I do 1-2 warm up sets with a very light weight with 10-15 reps at a fast pace. As long as you feel like you are limbered up you can start off doing anything you want to basically.

Strengthening my body
Bench press, deadlift, squat, military press, pullups, chinups, clean+jerk, snatch, chest dips, and every ab exercise you can imagine. Abs are extremely important to keep you stable and such. Keep a strict training journal. Write down the exercise and the weight you do with it. Since you are after athletic performance, just focus on progress. For example if you bench press 100 lbs for 4 reps, write that down. Then next time you train, try to do 5 reps. Then 6. Then once you can get over 6, increase weight and do like 105 lbs for 4 reps. For stuff like pullups, you can either keep doing more and more or find a way to strap weights to your body. Something you might think is weird: clean and jerk, and snatch. These two exercises are whats called "olympic lifts". These lifts focus on explosive power. You pull the weight up as hard as you can and basically yank it and jump, then drop down below it and catch the weight. This explosive power is great to have for jumping and such. These are my reccomendations for strength based training. This is only one of the components of being in great shape for parkour. You also need to have a lot of speed, balance, and dexterity. I have a lot less experiece in that area though.

Can I get some advice on this workout?
I'm a little confused about the first part of your question. I would not reccomend using the Smith machine for anything really. But in a normal gym, there is another place to use barbells, typically called a "squat rack" or a "power rack". Does your gym not have any racks beside the Smith machine? Are you allowed to use those? If you can't load barbells, dumbells are an appropriate subsitution for beginners. Dumbell bench is great. Dumbell military press is also great. Dumbell deadlift is do-able, but not nearly as effective. Same for the squats. Its great for beginners though. But for example, after 4 months of regular exercise I was able to squat 180 lbs with 155 body weight. If I wanted to squat with dumbells I would need to lug around some 90 lb dumbells...which is just way too hard to handle. To fully develop your strength, try to also use the leg press machine so you can do heavy weight. To learn exercises, this is absolutely great: http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/finder/ Your workout split sounds okay, but allow me to clear the air on something first. When you are trying to build muscle, it is not always better to do MORE. You still didnt exactly clarify what your goals are, but again I will assume that you want to build big muscles that look nice. When you lift, what you do is tear your muscle fibres. After you finish your lifting, your body goes to work and tries to repair the muscles. If you lift too often, your muscles will never get a chance to fully repair and thus wont grow in size as quickly. Many sucessful body-building routines only work a muscle group once per week. So monday you would do chest+tris, weds is back+biceps, fri is legs+any other parts you feel need worked. But the thing is that you need to learn to lift hard to make this routine be the best for you. My ultimate advice is to go ahead and do the schedule you wrote. Lift on mon, tues, wed. Cardio thurs, then repeat again if you desire. But be aware that you MIGHT over-work yourself. Building muscle is ultimately a game of trial-and-error, because you must learn what works for your own body. Just keep in mind that what you do outside of the gym is just as important as what you do inside of the gym. Get plenty of sleep, get enough rest days, and eat a lot of high protein food. PS: I looked over your original routine and I wanted to add that 10 reps per set might be too much. You should try to do very heavy weight and get 6-8 reps per set. But always try to see if you can get more than 8. If you can get more than 8 reps then its time to increase the weight. This is called "progressive overload". Google that term if you want more information.

Can I get some advice on this workout?
First of all, when you seek fitness advice it is very important to determine your exact goals. There is a huge difference between a program that builds muscle size, muscle strength, flexibility, speed, and endurance. If you are looking for muscle size, this workout is far too long. 1 hour is basically how long a weight training workout should be. I would never go over 1.5 hours. Putting that much strain on your muscles is going to cause them to basically eat themselves, plus it can set you up for injury, and also there is a hormone called cortisol that starts to be a real problem after 60-90 minutes. Secondly, there are 5 exercises that need to be a part of every weight training program. Bench press, deadlift, squat, military press, and pull-ups. These exercises are called compound movements, which basically means they use a lot of different muscle groups together. This helps make sure that all your muscles work together and develop at a similar rate. Thirdly, too much chest work. It is ridiculous to do flat, incline, and decline bench all on the same day, followed by flat incline and decline fly. Fourthly, split your workouts into chest+triceps, back+biceps, and legs+shoulders. Bench press hits your triceps secondary, so you should do chest and tris. When you do pullups for your back, your biceps also work. So its a good day to do both. Finally, yes you do need more back work. Rows, bent over rows, deadlifts, pullups, lat pulldowns, one arm dumbell rows, good mornings, and hyperextensions are all good back stuff. Do deadlifts, pullups, and pick 2-3 other exercises.

Dieting
Eat less. Move more. Of course you can eat chicken strips. Just do a little healthier on the other meals. If you are craving fat you should try buying some things like almonds and cashews. These nuts have lots of fat, but also have some nice fiber to help fill you up. To motivate yourself, remind yourself what you want. When you go to order those french fries, take a moment and think about why you are getting food. Do you want to eat for the taste that you crave? Or do you want to get healthy? If you want one thing more than the other, you'll do it. Honestly, the reason that people fail at getting healthy is just because they are unfamiliar with it. People are too scared to get healthy because it changes everything theyve known their whole life. The best advice I can give you is "just do it" (like Nike). It will be uncomfortable for you at first, but eventually youll realize that what you are doing is helping you achieve your highest goals and getting more enjoyment.

It is boring to play without a community. If more people were playing then more people would play...haha. Even if both of the RSC worlds were filled, it wouldn't be enough to support the community the way it existed back when the game was thriving.

Does society tame or corrupt the human being?
Society corrupts by definition. Without society, man cannot commit any evils. He is like an animal in the wilderness, living in the moment, concerned only with doing things to aid his survival. When you put man in a society, you arbitrarily define what things are "right" and "wrong". I suppose it tames too, though. I would say that without society, man cannot be tame OR corrupt. With society, man can become both.

The Style Thread
I just wanted to hop on this thread and say that I think jewelry on a man is incredibly tacky. The only thing you should be wearing is your wedding ring if youve got one. Wrist watches are doable I suppose. I would absolutely never wear one. When I see a dude with a chain on his neck, I ask myself 3 questions: -Wheres his boyfriend? -What trailer park did he grow up in? -How many rap albums has this guy made? If none of these questions have answers then I start wondering why in the world a man would wear a necklace. The only thing that goes around my neck is a tie.
