Should Jagex start beta testing with players?
Everything has its own risks. Even with all the testing in the world you'll still have some that slip through the net. And wouldnt it be better for SOME to slip through than for ALL to slip through? If you can make something better, without making anything else worse, then why not implement?

Don't you think it's kinda lame and arrogant to have Private Chat set to 'Friends'?
So basically you're a xenophobe. People should probably deal with this problem by seeing a psychiatrist, not the chat option on runescape.

Should Jagex start beta testing with players?
Secrecy is only an issue due to their using the supirse factor as a crutch to shore up their lackluster updates. Good content is good content regardless if people know about it. If it's good, people will want to play it. And its still a surprise the day you find out about it. Sure, the day you find out about it might be on a test server, but youll still be surprised by it...

13-May-2010 Fairy Tale Part 3 & DirectX Support and Graphics Options
A 30 minute quest? C'mon! It's epic. The quest itself is rather... meh. I agree that the Zanaris Graphics are very nice, but I just don't feel like their time was spent wisely on this. I do know that the graphics for Zanaris were done months ago and they reworked the final battle thing twice to make it better, which is what the delay was. So knowing that and seeing what came of it... just kinda... :-| No I agree. I was trying to be sarcastic...or something. It sucks that they spend so much time on this type of thing for the game. People are going to play through this quest once and be done with it forever...its a shame so much time goes into a short lived part of the game that we are only going to enjoy once (and many of us really wont "enjoy" questing at all) The rewards are great, but I doubt a lot of that development time was spent making the rewards.

SUPERPUMP
Make sure to keep up your water intake. Superpump and other such nitric oxide supplements have a buttload of creatine in them. You could be facing some dehydration if you dont take enough water while on creatine. I don't use superpump or anything like it. I never use anything that says "proprietary blend" of nutrients on it, because I like to know how much of something I am taking exactly. I take a lot of the things that are in superpump (creatine, glutamine, etc) but I take them on my own ammounts, seperately. The energy boost is probably from the taurine.

How to drink more water and less bad "Crap"
An absolute lie. Calories can be counted. If you consume more than you burn, you gain weight. If you burn more than you consume, you lose weight.

I think the moral of the story is that if you feel threatened by a person sitting at a computer miles away from you, sending you text on a java game that is being projected onto your little stupid plastic monitor.... Maybe you have bigger problems. Seriously. If some unwanted text on your screen upsets you guys so much that you have to block fellow gamers out of your direct-messaging, I really can't imagine what you little brats would be like to talk to in the real world. Really? Its too annoying to have people MESSAGE YOU on a GAME? Honestly. I can't wait till you guys have some real troubles in your life so that you can realize what an idiot you are for caring about this type of thing. "I need my privacy in this video game!" Go to hell.

-But why is it okay for us to find things after they have already been implemented into the permanent game world? If we had test worlds, it would be really similar to the way things are right now, except bugs would stand a much lower chance of losing somebody's items or giving someone an unfair ammt of exp. -I must say, I am thoroughly confused on your position now...We don't give any player an unfair advantage...which is why the test world would be public and not private to a select few. If we want to talk about unfairness, lets talk about all the people who die and lose items when stupid, preventable glitches arise in updates. Also imagine the possible meaning this could have for new items. When new items come out, nobody knows what they are worth and everyone just buys the item for max price, knowing it will rise. If we know that an item is coming, we could get a preview of how powerful it is, and maybe the market wouldnt be so flooded with panic junk trading to obtain the item on day 1. Maybe it could help Jagex establish a realistic price for when they release it to the real servers.

How to drink more water and less bad "Crap"
No, continue, please. Because I'm pretty sure you were just trying to be pretentious and flaunt your nutritional understanding of fat vs. sugar. You said you dont like the comparison, but they arent making a comparison. The commercial doesn't say "Drinking a soda has the same nutritional impact as drinking this huge glass of fat!" They just want to disgust you. So how does this deter you from soda if they aren't comparing soda to fat? They grab your attention with the glass of fat. "Oh thats gross!" you say. Then they put up the information: "Drinking one soda per day can make you 10 pounds fatter per year." Its just meant to shock you and realize the definition of a "drink". The only reason we want to drink anything is to hydrate ourselves. We look at the man drinking fat and we question why we are drinking a syrupy caffienated beverage instead of water.

The Running Thread
I have been running in cross training shoes, similar to: Until now, these have served me well. The longest runs I ever did for my cardio were 20-30 minutes with high intensity intervals. Usually though, I didnt even run for cardio but did the bike or elliptical so the shoe mattered even less of the time. Now, however, my girlfriend and I are getting into running (outside) for long distances, and I feel like I need a different shoe now. The crosstrainers feel a little bulky...or something. Any ideas from the running crowd?

Favorite alcoholic beverage?
I love the mojito, when made correctly...i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax6yLD21_YQ I've had a lot of bad mojitos though...usually the culprit is too much soda water. Makes the drink more like a rum-mint-lime collins or something.

Should Jagex start beta testing with players?
So your first paragraph, that wouldn't be an issue if we open it to the public, correct? For the second paragraph, what is the difference between a game update affecting the GE and a beta world update affecting the GE? Also, we used to get Behind the Scenes every month, and that disclosure often led people to stockpile items and people werent bothered by that. ALSO we currently have twitter hints and other such crap, which leads to GE rises. In WoW, people read the test realm patch notes and the market DOES get affected by it, but it is just a part of the game. Its not really any better or worse to have a real update affect the market or a future update affect it. And I'm not really talking about dungeoneering btw, or complaining that it is bad. Theres just a lot of updates that have small problems (exp, prices, etc) that could be streamlined by testing it with a large population.
-
Dungeoneering & System Updates?
Apparently we rarely get updates anymore anyway, so I wouldnt worry about it.

Favorite alcoholic beverage?
The thing with the white russian is that their recipes vary, unlike most other cocktails. Some prefer to have the cream floating on top (4 counts vodka, 2 counts coffee liqueur, garnished with cream), others prefer a lot more cream than a garnish (as seen above), and then others prefer it mixed. To each his own :) I agree. You can drink whatever you want to. But theres a limit to what you can call something "a ___" The cocktail world is more like baking than cooking. With the world of hot food, you can pretty much call anything with a similar taste by the same name. I've had plenty of lasagna in my life...some has been swimming in sauce, some has been skimpy on the sauce, some has beef, some has pork, some has no meat. But in baking...I'm sorry but if you make an eggy pancake, its a crepe. If you bake a heavy cake twice, its not still a cake, its a biscotti. Same for the cocktail world. If you fill your "White Russian" with as much creme as spirit, then you arent making a White Russian. If someone likes their White Russians WITHOUT cream, we say its a black russian. If someone likes their white russians flooded with cream....well, I have absolutely no idea what you would call that, but it certainly would not be a white russian. Yes, Campari has a flavor that people do not taste very often: bitterness. We consume tons of things that are salty, sweet, sour, bland, dry, moist, savory...but most never eat "bitter" things. Once you expand your tastes and get your body aware of the fact that bitterness is okay, its really a great flavor to experience.

Should Jagex start beta testing with players?
In WoW, boss encounters are tested on the public test realm. Sure you could kill the boss again, but you only need to figure out HOW to kill it once. You could play quests again on other RS characters. Or hell, I dont care, what if we just beta test non-quest additions? You are bickering over small details of the concept now, instead of saying why it would be a bad to have players play "unfinished" content that doesnt affect the "real" RS. Nobody needs to grind woodcutting in beta testing. There haven't been any bugs so far where you cut 50,000 logs but on the 50,001 log your character randomly dies. People would just play very lightly and do a wide variety of things, sometimes only once. Youd be suprised what a community of 1000s of people can find out very quickly, compared to a team of less than 20. The test realms for other MMOs are open to the public. I dont see why this would be different for runescape. In my opinion theres really no option here. Things just need to be released to a Runescape test realm. As already stated, a lot of our updates already are delivered to us unfinished. So, its kind of like we ARE beta testing, except it gets put into the real game and has an actual detriment on the game world. Sure sounds worse to me than updating it to the test world and saving players a lot of hassle. This makes no sense. How do players find the glitches currently in the live game? Because they want to play it. When we find glitches and imbalances, we arent saying "Okay...now what can I do to break the game?" We just play it and we find stuff thats wrong.

When does anyone leave?
As others have said, "noob" is a state of mind. Theres games I have played where on day 1 I am less of a noob than some idiots who have played it for a year.

Nobody gained experience in the RS2 beta. http://news.runescape.com/newsitem.ws?id=204 rather, exp was reset before the real release, and at other times. edit after your edit: yes that's what i mean. it was a full release that simply got reset. it wasn't a beta test but a pre-release for members. I dont understand...But players still didnt "get anything" in the long run...Their characters on the official launch of RS2 were only as good as their RSC characters. Like 4 months after the beta release of RS2. If you played nothing but RS2 in that time, you wouldve had no progress. How is this different from beta testing quests and everything? Why would players play the Beta RS2 but not other updates..

The world without the United States...hmmm. Well I have to imagine it would be something like this:

Nobody gained experience in the RS2 beta. Well I mean you gained exp. But it wasnt permanent. Is that what you mean?

Should Jagex start beta testing with players?
a.) This is kind of the point of beta testing...stuff that doesnt work will get changed or removed. b.) Nothing would be given out. Nobody gains anything from playing on beta servers for the other MMOs c.) Everyone can log into a beta world. WoW does open beta testing and it works perfectly fine. you speak of the purposes of alpha testing. beta testing isn't just a name. The "beta" portion means it's secondary testing. Rather, jagex' product (as it's relatively simple java) either needs EXP balancing, or complete rework, not beta-testing. this means it's primarily not for finding major bugs and issues, that would lead to the removal of content, or major change. Rather, beta testing is for balancing and finding small bugs. If thats the definition of "beta testing" then the RS2 "beta" wasn't a "beta" either. Lots of things dealing with exp rates, high alch rates, etc were changed in the RS2 "beta" -what benefits are there of bete-testing without exp balancing? This is a stupid question. Exp can be balanced in a beta. -what is the point of beta-testing quests without the rewards? People beta test WoW without getting rewards. People played the RS2 beta without rewards. -what other content can't be released for beta-testing? Nothing. It all gets updated to the test world first. -what content should / can effectively be released for beta-testing? All content -if everyone has the right to beta-test, how will jagex cope with thousands and thousands of beta-testers online at any given time? Limited population beta worlds. Just like how Wolrd 2 used to be the place to go to sell things. If you dont wanna wait in line, too bad. -how will they avoid duplicate reports, and masses of administration for small gains? I dont understand this question. -runescape is cheap. where will jagex find the money to pay for beta-testing? Nobody is gonna be getting paid for beta testing... -f2p beta-testers, p2p testing f2p content? I wouldnt open the test worlds to f2p. Google the phrase "WoW test realm" and see how the big boys are doing it, and doing it sucessfully.

Yeah. It really is kinda dumb. If someone bothers me via PM, thats what I have my ignore list for. Sometimes I can support turning PM off completely though. If you want to grind some stuff and don't feel like talking to anybody, not even your friends, it is probably a good idea to just turn PM off so nobody even knows youre online. The way I see it, having your PM on "friends" is like being one of those people who will get down and sit next to you on the bus and stare straight ahead with their iPod blaring in their ears. I'm not like that, I like to exist as a part of society. Not walk around, in a crowd, but all alone. In all my years, I have met probably about 10-15 good friends just by randomly starting a conversation with them. Some have moved away by now and aren't a part of my life anymore, but if I walked around refusing to acknoledge the existence of strangers, I would have missed out on a whole lot of bar hopping, excercise buddies, and I was even part of a groom's party of someone who I met standing in line at the EB (electronics boutiqque...before the days of you younggins and your fancy GameStop) Of course, the same applies for Runescape. I met my best online friend because he saw something I posted on here and PMed me with questions about the game. I helped him get started in Runescape and eventually we went on to play WoW together for about a year. Now we are Facebook friends. Wouldnt have happened with "friends only" chat.

12-Apr-2010 - Dungeoneering Skill!
I was actually referring to how its been two weeks with no update. Well...I guess this week isnt really over yet though. It is just really more rare for them to update on wednesdays.
