Runescape Model Format
Well, I actually try to avoid UV mapping for RS models, since I once came across a page on Jagex's corporate site that had "homework" for people considering applying for a job as an RS modeler. On that page, it mentioned that UV mapping isn't actually supported by the game engine (and by what I've seen even in recent graphics, it still isn't supported - if it ever was, they'd probably make even more hype about it than they did when Z-buffering came out). So in general, for mapping textures, I just set it to "Generated", allowing Blender's mapping algorithms to handle texture mapping. I also usually just use procedural textures (e.g. clouds, musgrave, etc.), with the color ramp set to a gradient between 100% transparent and solid black. If you're not referring to textures, but to colors instead, you don't need UV mapping to do that. Colors can be done by creating different materials and assigning them to selected faces, or by having one material with the "Vertex Color Paint" setting checked and using Vertex Paint mode. To get to Vertex Paint mode, you just click the same menubox that lets you switch between the Object, Edit, Weight Paint, etc. modes. In Vertex Paint mode, to make things look the way Jagex does, you should have the Face Selection Mask view on (it's that small button with a cube, next to the menu that lets you switch detail modes). You then select faces and, after choosing a color, press Shift+K to fill them with that color. However, if you want to have parts with different textures, those need different materials regardless. Anyways, if you absolutely must use UV unwrapping (e.g. you're trying to design something complex without having to model all its details, or you want to take a texture from a flat surface in RS and plop it on your model (as you would for a tree's leaves or firecape or something)) then there are some things you can do to make it easier. First, I assume you know how to unwrap things correctly (pressing U and choosing Smart Project usually works well). After you have done this, make an Image Editor window in Blender, and, with the vertexes of your mesh selected, create a new, blank white image. Now, switch to Texture Paint mode in the 3D window, and use brushes to draw little guidelines and notes directly on the surface, denoting which parts represent what. You can then use the Image Editor to save that image as a new file, and pull it into Photoshop, and use it as a basic guideline for how you want to draw things. If you have Illustrator on your computer, you can also export an SVG layout of the UV unwrapped mesh from Blender, open that in Illustrator, and save it as a PSD or image that you could pull into Photoshop for even more guidelines. I know it's a hassle, and that's another reason I try to avoid UV mapping when I can :P Also, if you aren't already using a version of Blender that's 2.5 or greater, I sincerely suggest you upgrade, as its interface is much more logical and intuitive, and it has many more features.

Runescape Model Format
The models are in Jagex's own special, (apparently) encrypted format. Unfortunately, even extracting the models is considered a violation of Jagex's TOS (although it's not stated in the rules/guidelines, yes, a TOS violation can lead to banning if you are caught. This is mainly to discourage people from making private servers - a lot less people would bother doing something if they knew they couldn't give themselves credit without getting banned. That's also why most private servers and other TOS-violating things tend to be made by people who've quit RS anyways). You should probably avoid trying to extract/convert the models - Jagex doesn't like it when people do it, because they feel it can be used to manipulate the game or make private servers, which is why it's a violation of the Terms of Service. Anyways, I don't know of any way to convert the models into an editable format. Before I knew Jagex took extracting the models as a serious and bannable offense, I was actually trying to see if I could find some converter that would let me pull the models into Blender so I could play around with them. After stumbling upon some private server making forums, the posts I saw there connoted the general impression that you'd have to make your own converter if you wanted to bring it into an editable format (apparently most private server makers just go with the same format Jagex uses and build their own custom model editors to make their own models). So not only would it be against Jagex's rules (and bannable if they figure out you did it!), but I'm afraid you'd have to learn how to either program your own converter or make your own model editor. Really, that seems like too much work, in my opinion, to make something that you could never safely enter into an official machinima competition anyhow  Personally, what I do (both after learning that using Jagex's models is a TOS violation, and after learning that it'd take too much effort regardless) is just make the models myself. I mean, it seems to work just fine for JeffreySonRS, so why not? If you want, I could give you some basic models I've made so you can have a headstart - I have a default human male model and a few trees and bushes. Of course, you'd have to tell me what program you're using and what files it accepts, first. I'm using Blender, so if that's what you use too, I can just give you the .blend files directly :P

Fake kit for new hitsplats
Okay, the contest for this kit has ended, as all questions have been answered! However, if anyone's still interested, there are 9 open questions for other fakes/vids of mine here.

Real-Life Runes!
Nice job  The extra one could've been a Catalytic Rune though :P Well, he could still use Wind Strike or Water Strike once, not that it'd help much. He could also teleother the intruder to Lumbridge or Falador :P Or he could use Enchant Lvl 1 Jewelry to thank his fiance  Other spells you could save those up for: Crossbow Bolt (Sapphire) Teleport to House (you never know when you'll need it ) Telekinetic Grab (you never know when it'll come in handy :-P) Monster Examine Teleport Block Anyways, they look awesome. Interesting take on the Soul Rune :o

Fake kit for new hitsplats
About the contest - you guys are allowed to use sites like Tip.It's database or RuneWiki to help figure out the significance of 3260, 6500, and 10000. They're all monster max lifepoints :P Although I have noticed yet another discrepancy between the two sites' max lifepoint records - in this case, I'll be accepting the RuneWiki answer, because Tip.It's guess seems too large, and because Tip.It says there's no monster with that max lp anyways  I have, but I'm probably going to get a job as a programmer anyhow - I'm going to be majoring in Computer Science.

Fake kit for new hitsplats
Tipit tells us that Jads Hitpoints are 2500 General Graardor on the other hand does have 2550 hp Crap. What's odd is that Runewiki says 2550, which makes sense, because: But both Tip.It and Zybez say it's 2500. Also, RuneHQ says it's 3120, but that's obviously not right... But my friend found an old vid where Jad got stat-spied and had 250hp, so I guess you're right then. I guess that means Herty loses 3 points

Typography and an attempt at impressionism?
Well, you try recounting 6 long, vivid, distinct dreams in less than a paragraph  Whatever, spoiler'd so it doesn't detract from the work. Yeah, but I couldn't reshape the dreams until they looked completely like legible letters - as it stands, I already had to change enough details. It was already pretty tricky coming up with dreams that can be represented as letters at all  I know it's not at all legible as a word unless I say it's supposed to say "DREAMS", and even then, my friends only recognize the E and A. But there was a lot of variation in the sort of projects people did - some people created an object out of words describing the object, one of my friends at this forum built letters spelling "DUNGΣON" out of things from Daemonheim in RuneScape (e.g. the letters were built of bricks, some of which had things like plants growing on them or mining rocks), and someone was lame and just took a bunch of images off Google and masked a single-font text over them, so my work wasn't the only one that detracted from the initial assignment, and my teacher didn't care :P

Typography and an attempt at impressionism?
This was for my graphics class. The project was to create an illustration(s) that looks like a word (with the illustration(s) pertaining to the word, of course). I chose to draw six different dreams I had, spelling out the word "DREAMS". If you can't see the letters in it, look at this: If you want to see a larger version of it, click here: https://sites.google.com/site/wolfiemario/files/Typography-Dreams-FINALVERSION.png?attredirects=0 If it says "Your attachment is ready to download", no, it's not trying to download it. You just have to click it in order to see the image (it's 5768x1573) - Google puts that page for some computers for some reason. My aim was to get the drawings to look like they were impressionism-style (I thought that'd be perfect since it's about dreams, which are in their own right a fleeting impression), but my biggest flaw in that respect is that I'm no good at lighting. I also kinda failed at the perspective in some of them. If anyone can give me some tutorials to help me with lighting and perspective, I'd really appreciate it. I find it funny how I have good spatial reasoning skills and know 3D graphics well, but can't do perspective right :-? I used Adobe Photoshop CS4, and I spent almost two hours just getting the brush just right and experimenting. I spent 1-2 hours on each illustration, and some more time on the backgrounds and putting it all together. I actually have most individual objects (and their details) on separate layers, so I can easily change things if I wanted. If you're interested in what the dreams are about, click the spoiler: Please give CC, and if you don't mind, feel free to tell me which illustration/dream is your favorite :P

Fake kit for new hitsplats
Correct! :) +6₧ (err, it's "integer" data type though :P Integrals are what make my math homework take so long :-?) Yeah, I recognize both your avatar and your rsn :P EDIT: There's only 3 references left! :o

Fake kit for new hitsplats
I've decided to extend my "contest" to Tip.It. It's a simple contest where you look for Easter Eggs, try to figure out references, and guess how I made things in my various RS-related works. I've added the details to the end of the first post :P

Fake kit for new hitsplats
Thanks guys, glad you like them . Yeah, I was trying to think of some interesting things to put so I fill up the Miscellaneous Hitsplats box - in addition to those 4 I did for fun, some of the seemingly random numbers are the max lifepoints of various monsters/bosses

Fake kit for new hitsplats
Pretty much a day or two after the hitsplat change came out, I decided to start working on a new kit so they're still possible to fake. That involved a lot of screenshotting and experimenting. Now, if the stuff here looks like the stuff you see in RuneWiki's Hitsplat article, it's because I put it there :P (well, they had a few splats before I came along, but some were flawed - one guy thought that the healing splat is just a purple recolor of the damage splat . Also, none of their splats had any shadows). Anyways, here's the kit: Yeah, it covers a lot . If that's too much to be of use to some of you, feel free to use the condensed version: But if you get confused with anything, please refer to the "Notes on Alignment and Making Splats" section of the large kit - it covers virtually everything. Also, you may look at "Miscellaneous Sample Hitsplats" and think "hey, some of these look wrong", but I actually compared them to many hits ingame - the horizontal alignment rules aren't really as simple as I make it seem in the notes section, but I didn't want to make the notes even longer. Note that in order to use this kit correctly, you have to rightclick -> Save Image As... the kit (copy/paste will make the transparency become solid black if you're using Firefox), and you have to use a graphical editor that can use transparency (otherwise you can't fake the transparent shadows around the splats correctly). Anyways, the font I refer to in the kit for maxed hits can be downloaded here, and its FontStruct page is here. I thought now would be as good a time as any to introduce my contest to Tip.It. See, I have this sort of contest within many of the RS-related things I do, where I hide certain Easter Eggs and references in my works, or let people guess as to how I made something. The contest has rules, rewards, and and an organized scoresheet (which is driven primarily by a lot of carefully planned spreadsheet code, so most of it is automated, severely reducing the risk of any error), so it's not just something lame I whipped up in 10 minutes  You can go here for pretty much all the info you may need about my contest, but really, you don't need to see anything there to start playing. The rules are pretty straightforward, so you don't even need to know those to start playing - just keep in mind you only get points if you're the first to answer a question, and that means first. If someone answers the question first on a different forum (currently the only other forum that knows about this contest is Sal's, where I started it), they get the points. Anyways, the contest for this fake kit only has one question (my fakes usually get several questions): [9 Finds] In the large kit, under the Miscellaneous Sample Hitsplats section, I have made several extra (normal damage) hitsplats with specific numbers. The numbers are 1337, 2550, 3260, 6500, 9001, 10000, 20000, 32767, and 65535. Each is a reference to something - but what? 1₧ for figuring out what 1337 or 9001 refer to, 2₧ for figuring out what 20000 or 10000 are references to, 3₧ for figuring out what 32767 or 65535 reference [8 (simultaneous) incorrect guesses. Please don't copy/paste from Wikipedia!], and 4₧ for figuring out what 3260 or 6500 reference. 2550 can actually reference at least 4 different things - if you get just one, I give you 2₧, but for each extra one you get, I give you another 3₧ bonus (up to 3 extra references, so up to 9₧ bonus overall - but if you can think of more than 4 references, still post them all, but no more that 8! It'd be kinda unfair if you guessed every possibility under the sun :P. You won't get credit for any more than 4 references, but it's best to be safe in case some are wrong) [3 incorrect guesses]. 22₧ (+9₧) Found: 1337 and 9001 have been found by Guitarguy (Sal's Realm): "leet" in leetspeak, and the meme 32767 and 65535 have been found by Den (Tip.It): 32767 is the maximum value of a signed short integer (aka halfword), while 65535 is the max for an unsigned short integer. 2550 and 20000 have been found by Herty (Sal's Realm): Herty found that 2550 could be a reference to the max limit of an 8-bit byte (octet), multiplied by ten (because of the lifepoints update). The other two references I had in mind for this one were the Kalphite Queen's max lifepoints (in both forms), and the max lifepoints of a player after touching the Stone of Jas during While Guthix Sleeps. Unfortunately, we both thought Jad has a max lifepoints of 2550, but a Tip.Iter and a video of Jad's Monster Examine proved us wrong - apparently it's 2500. Herty also found that the max lifepoints of the Corporeal Beast is 20000. 10000, 3260, and 6500 have been found by iAntilopi (Sal's Realm): 10000 is the max lifepoints of Nomad, as well as his three Avatars, 3260 is the max lifepoints of a tormented demon, and 6500 is (according to RuneWiki) the max lifepoints of the Pest Queen. Here is a key for the above scoresheet.Press Ctrl+F5 to refresh it! The contest for this kit is over! However, if you want to participate in this contest for some of my other fakes and stuff, you can click here - there's still a few open questions. Feel free to post your answers to them right on this topic :P

Playing around with Photoshop - master skillcapes
Ah yes, that's much better  You should also try to keep a constant position for the icons on each cape, rather than having them in different spots (bottom, middle...) on each cape - that is, if you choose to redo the ones you already have  But try fixing the bottom of the revised cape - it seems a tad jagged, no? Also, as your original screenshot was antialiased, I'd recommend making the edges antialiased - careful selection along the edge with the polygon lasso tool, with Antialiased selection turned on, and then deleting the edge (only a very thin part of course) will make the edges seem antialiased, which is much more appealing :P

I transformed into a corporal beast!
But the fact is it would take more effort to fake the glitchy Jad passing through things in a video than it would take to actually make the program (provided you know as much about video editing as you do Java scripting, that is). I've done video editing involving a lot of masking to have objects pass through or overlap each other correctly, as would be required to fake this vid, and I could tell you nobody would put that many (presumed by my own experience) weeks of monotonous of work into a fake video to get people to download a keylogger. But, if the person's already writing viruses or keyloggers, they are likely also skilled enough to make the real program to make a convincing demo vid to lure people with, especially considering this program is basically adjusting client-side memory values the exact same way Artmoney does, but instead of targeting text/display vars, it targets pointers for character/NPC display. Although I don't do RS hacking since I'm more interested in making useful programs or original games, I can tell you the vid isn't fake because it would be much easier to make the actual program than fake all that. Of course, whether or not it's fake has no bearing on whether or not it has viruses/keyloggers. Also, yes, it breaks the rule against third-party software, as well as violating the TOS by modifying the client (regardless of how it can't be abused towards someone's benefit). Also, I think the video uploader probably just found that from a private server development site, since he's clueless enough to refer to it as a "glitch" when it's an intentional hack the programmers of RS cannot prevent :???:

The Art of Fire
Wow, shear win. Good luck on the next competition; after all the work this one took you surely deserve a winning spot! I agree with DyingSilent, seeing Tetris and the other games made me :D (disregard the fact that an emote is not a valid verb)

I just combined Quest and Achievement armour.
The helm's my favorite :D Epic drawings; it would be great if Jagex did this. Once you've done concepts of the whole set, you really should make a drawing of a character in the whole set, with some text by the side explaining the pieces and how they are made, and then send it to [email protected] There's no doubt in my mind that this could make it into the gallery once you've done the whole set - just make sure you sort out the kinks in that platebody though :P Also, I'm loving the sash, so maybe you could include the full quest set in your concept as well |^_^|

The Cake of Immortality - A Never Ending Quest
No, it was 12:00 AM GMT on the 16th, so that means about 15 hours ago (relative to this post) :( Still, it's awesome, so I really hope they still watch it and don't notice :o

Some more RuneScape screenshot fakes and animations/videos
I've added more fakes to the topic (old ones have been spoiler'd). I don't feel like making a new topic unless I make a fake that I will post in its own topic on several forums (I have OCD :?), even though at least one of the new fakes I've added is imo worthy of a new topic. Anyways, I'd also like to let you guys know that there is a "contest" that I have, which I originally ran only at Sal's, but am now expanding to include Tip.It and Zybez. It's about finding Easter eggs, figuring out references, and guessing how I faked stuff in various fakes of mine. Normally I include the contest questions right on the topic of a large fake (as I did for my Pizza Hut, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Revenge in the Name of TBFL topics at Sal's Realm), but in this case the individual fakes involved in the contest are too small (most of them, anyways) for their own topics. You can see the questions pertaining to such fakes on this page of my website: https://sites.google.com/site/interactiverune/Home/contest/miscellaneous You can also see more details on my contest at this page: https://sites.google.com/site/interactiverune/Home/contest Here is the contest scoresheet (also at the above page); it updates when you hit Ctrl+F5: You don't really need to read any of the stuff on the last page I linked, as that's just technicalities and rewards. All you need to know to play in my contest is that you get points for being the first to answer a question right. Again, the miscellaneous questions may be found here. You can feel free to post your answers right on this topic, or you can PM me at Tip.It, Sal's, or Zybez :P

2 IRL short stories for Golden Gnomes
The first was my favorite - nice use of sound effects :P. Also, glad you saw my comment before it was too late :o But I'm confused how "HKR#2" is a possible RS name - you can't have a # in your rsn unless it's a glitch

Mud Pool Stat Glitch
This has actually been around since the original release of Dungeoneering, and I've seen at least 5 pics and a vid about it by now. It's a simple glitch that can also happen sometimes when you switch to the stats tab quickly. It always only lasts a split second, and it's always that set of stats regardless of your real stats or equipment, and the total level is always 1337. That last part means it may be an Easter egg, especially since the numbers don't really add up to 1337 (it should be 2437). It could be that a change to the skills tab when they added the new skill means that our levels aren't loaded before switching to the tab, as they were before, and, rather than having blank stats, a content developer decided to initialize the skills with those numbers until the proper values are loaded. It still doesn't explain why this crops up at the mud baths too, unless there's something in the code that forces a refresh of the tab whenever your skills are altered by it.

the all-mighty god has returned!
He's still a spade? lol I think so, though honestly, I cant remember if he is or if he got turned into something else. However I dont think he was ever turned back into his glorious self. :P Yeah, he's still a spade. But in Excl's "Scab Edition", he's turned back to his glorious self for a moment, and then turned into a rock :P

The Tip.it Youtube friends connection
Seems interesting - I'll sign up as "Deretythe". However, I'm a bit worried about the two vids you have up - unless you have permission from the artists of that music, you can get copyright strikes on your account for it. After 3 strikes, YouTube permbans you without the option to appeal :(

Tetris Attack
Wait, where did they release the Beta? I checked here: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Roadmap It says there's still some things left to do before the beta release can be finished. Also, it's not under the downloads or release logs :-?

Making RuneScape prettier
Alright, sorry if I misinterpreted your first post, but I still don't really consider it CC, because, in my opinion, constructive criticism requires not only telling the artist what they're doing is wrong, but also specifying what they should do instead if it isn't obvious (for example, I would consider saying that a shot is too close up is CC, because it's obvious the solution to make it better is to not zoom in too far. However, I wouldn't consider it CC to say that an image looks uncomfortable or unnatural, without specifying what causes it to seem unnatural, or giving advice on how to make it seem more natural). However, I guess arguing about that is moot, since you actually did give him CC in your second post :P And sorry for my assumptions, but I made those assumptions based on other posts I've seen from you (namely, to me). I guess your comments here are a bit more helpful to Log than you were to me, since the only advice I've received from your posts on my works were to stop doing them because it's "pointless" for me to "waste my time" on RuneScape-based works, and to stop writing so much because my way of speech is "developmentally delayed".[1][2] So I'm sorry if I made any assumptions about you, but I did so based only on my past experience with your posts. I know there's a fine line between constructive criticism and destructive criticism, but in my opinion you do cross it some times :-| @unknowz: good observations - I have to agree that DOF was overused and done improperly on some of these. Especially the last one - by doing that much blurring, especially with such a narrow DOF, it creates an effect as though all the characters standing there are a centimeter high with the camera pulled really close - DOF that narrow relative to the subjects and camera height almost always creates the illusion that they are very small
