Illogical Things of Runescape
Most NPCs have a general lack of consciousness of their surroundings. One notable example is the Snow Imp:

That was pretty good  But you made a typo on the message after you throw up. yeh "i did not know a that" lulz Ok sorry, it was a grammatical error  No, I made a few typos too: Grquartzds: "Wtf! The sheild broke before I even equipped it!" The shopkeeper refuses to return your money. There are no warranties in Geilinor. My graphics program doesn't have a spellchecker. Also, I cannot comprehend "i before e" -.-

Random RuneScape events?
Jagex included the reward for fairness. Some new players at the time of the King Green Dragon version of Learning the Ropes got the lamps as experience rewards. Then Jagex removed access to the Green Dragon version of Learning the Ropes and reset the initial starting spawn location of a new account back to Tutorial Island, the way things were before. Because of this, newer accounts, as well as accounts created before the Dragon version of Learning the Ropes, couldn't get to see the cutscenes or obtain the lamps. Thus, to be fair, Jagex lets players claim the reward and see the cutscenes even if the account went through the Tutorial Island version of Learning the Ropes. Jagex only did this to be fair, not to be utterly random and illogical. I don't see why you'd be complaining about XP lamps and cutscenes, whether or not the reward is the best thing in the world. It's also a possibility that Jagex is planning on fixing up the Dragon version of Learning the Ropes, so they left it there. But in the original version of the Dragon quest (and, before that update, there was no "Learning the Ropes" quest, Tutorial Island did not count as a quest) did actually make you do a few things before you get the rewards. This is little more than another example of how video games don't follow real world logic. I don't see you complaining about how random it is that you magically come back to life after dieing, and that your body disappears but a gravestone builds itself and buries your items for safekeeping :?. There's countless random things in RuneScape, simply because it's a game, and not the real world :o

ComicScape
Some of these are actually pretty funny. I feel like making one, but I know the drawing would suck, and I don't have any ideas, so I'll just show you guys something I made a while ago: Not exactly a comic, nor is it hand-drawn, but I'm much better at screenshot faking anyways :P

Ddraiggoch06, since you never replied to my last comment, I decided to do it anyways: Forum Name: WolfieMario RuneScape Name: Grquartzds Name to use on picture: WolfieMario Picture: URL: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6388 ... yflaty.png Can you please tell me whether or not this will get into the Tip Pic '09? EDIT: [hide=Edit info]Sorry! I just realized I forgot the texture for the staff's top (the rest of it had the correct texture, though). Seeing as you haven't been on since, Ddraiggoch06, I just edited my post. Here's a comparison of the two: (old one) (new one) (original image before faking)[/hide]

27th May - Dungeon maps and spam filter
I know graphical updates don't make the game better. Personally, I always play with the lowest graphics settings available, because I want performance and minimal lag. When I take a screenshot, depending on what it may be, I would probably switch to the highest graphics available, but I normally play low detail anyways. I always liked RS for the gameplay, quests, story, skills, etc... Regardless, I think it's good market for Jagex to keep updating graphics, sound, etc., because more people will be interested in a more professional looking game, and more people are getting better computers to handle such improvements. I have a friend (who's actually a TipIter, btw) who refused to start playing RS simply because he didn't like the graphics. The graphics never stopped me from playing, but for some people it does. Me and a couple other friends managed to convince him to play anyways, and he got addicted right away, and stopped complaining about the graphics (this was before HD came out). He now maintains that he could never play RS again if they got rid of HD, but I'm pretty sure he still would regardless. There are many people in the world like that, so absorbed in the superficiality of something that they assume it's only good if it looks good. Of course the graphics are not necessary, but they help RS nonetheless. He looks so menacing until you see his puny feet  Khazard: At least I'm not about to die! Player: AT LEAST I DON'T BUY MY SHOES IN THE KIDS AISLE! Khazard: ....uncalled for. Rofl That's what she said

27th May - Dungeon maps and spam filter
True, the HP bar change wasn't necessary, but it helps nonetheless. Truly, none of Jagex's graphical updates are "needed", as they don't improve one's ability to play the game, but they greatly improve it's appeal. How many new players would RS be getting nowadays, when graphical quality of games is constantly rising, if it still used RS Classic's graphics? And the spam filter is a major convenience to skillers, so I don't know why you think it's unnecessary. Truth be told, updates, in general, are never necessary to make the game playable, but they make the game better and more enjoyable nonetheless. I'm hoping you meant a different word, because I fail to see the logic behind rating updates based on necessity. I guess it does slightly lessen the update's quality because not all the maps are there, but, if they only released the update once the whole thing was done, we may not have seen the dungeon maps until the middle of this summer :o RuneScape really is a huge place to set up maps for the whole thing, so I think it's best that they resolved it by doing it piece-by-piece. But I agree 100% about the arrows. I haven't played much since the update, but... Seriously?! There's absolutely no improvement in them, they just waste space. I think it's good that clicking them on the world map links you through dungeons, but there's no need to advertise the fact. A simple highlighting of the icon when your cursor passes over it would be much better, or perhaps an arrow pointing up or down appears only when you hover over the icon (if it's that important to know which direction it leads)

wilderness ditch
They actually did have that before the ditch... A large message (taking up most of the screen) popped up, warning you about the wildy, and you don't continue walking even if you're following someone. I think that they should just make the ditch look like it was filled in - that way, no need to click it, but no fear of accidentally entering wildy territory while crafting mind runes (a friend of mine nearly got PK'ed before the ditch, because the warning didn't come up (it used to be a one-time deal, warning you the first time you got near it)). You would know where the wildy is, but if you want to enter it, just walk past it - no clicking required, it would be just purely a decoration. So maybe they could turn the ditch into a "Wilderness Line"? :?

The RuneScape Knowledge Test - (Round 1)
[hide=]D,D,A,C,A,C,B,A,C,D,D,A,B,B,D,C,A,D,D,D[/hide] I know I got a few wrong, especially considering I've never been a member in my life :o, but I think I did rather good for a f2p nub : That's likely due to my work with screenshot fakes, my real life friends who always talk about RS, and the fact that I'm paying attention to some members features before I will actually get my membership (probably this summer). PM me the correct answers, please :

Epic win! Thanks so much, this will be sure to help me sometime this summer

wilderness ditch
I don't think the ditch is necessary anymore. Wasn't the warning signs they used to have enough? They used to pop up automatically (and still do, right?). It was enough to save me from a Wildy lure back when I was a noob, so I don't see why the ditch is so important...

27th May - Dungeon maps and spam filter
Thanks, I'm definitely addicted to faking Most my stats are nooby (thanks to major inactivity), but I am working on getting a 99: Still a long way to go, though What color do you think a heal splat should be? My friend said purple. I think white, or possibly Saradomin blue, would probably be good. I may actually try faking my own version of a healing splat soon
-
27th May - Dungeon maps and spam filter
I actually think these updates were pretty good. I the dungeon maps! I also think the new splats blend really well in HD . I don't think the attack splat is too great, but I love the poison and disease splats. It's just that they're all a little harder to read. The HP bar will definitely take some time to get used to, but it's much better than the MS Paint failure they had before. It just doesn't blend in with the rest of the graphics. The chat filter idea's genius, too! \ But there's one problem: the updates scared the hell out of quite a few screenshot fakers :o Why, you ask? Because of the one and only way Jagex will ever get rid of fakers: antialiasing  I had to go through the trouble of recreating the new splats practically from scratch! I haven't done the disease and poison splats yet, but for those who are interested, here's what I did manage to do: It's funny how a small update like the splats can cause pandemonium on Sal's faking forum :o. Hopefully that'll hold for a while, but if Jagex decides to change them again... :x Aside from the new complications in screenshot faking, though, I really liked the new updates. Although the minimap flag kinda annoys me <_< They really should have fixed redbarring, and it wouldn't be too hard, either: just make one pixel of green stay in the bar until the monster's dead, regardless of % calculations. That's easy to do, all they need is an if-then, or they could just round up instead of down. I also agree with the idea of distinguishing blocks and misses. I also think it would be interesting to have a "heal splat", for when you use things that heal you, such as the SGS spec, but not for when you eat food. Previously they used a blue splat for healing, and that was only for the snowmen in Christmas '07. But they can't use a shield for that anymore, of course, so it would be interesting to have a new splat, even if it would only be seen by people using an SGS spec or something else besides food that heals. Lol, the Chaos Tunnels continue to prove themselves worthy of the name They really should get rid of the line - it's a great idea Funny how nobody ever complained about the line around skulls, though: They should make it's lines a little brighter, black never blends. But the HP bars really need the lines removed! Actually, a friend of mine suggested they make the HP bars have antialiasing, like the new splats. I guess MS Paint-ers won't be doing combat fakes anymore :o Never did I expect the day that I would see something like that in RuneScape. I shall have nightmares for months  Meh You can start worrying when you hear continuous warning bells at 25% hp That always annoyed the hell out of me. Ironically, in any other game that does it, I'd barely get to hear the sound before I'm already dead :?. Hey, wait a second... Turn your volume up and get very low HP in RS: the heart icon starts flashing, and you hear a continuous heartbeat :o I was trying to get all my combat stats up to 3 on Tutorial Island (you can't die), and I eventually just muted it because I was annoyed by the sound. So they do have a warning for it already. Panic mode = on :o

Concepts ~Newest: Total Skillcape~
As people have said, you didn't really do much. I'm not sure, but is there a place to post suggestions? Because this place seems to be more about graphics and other forms of media, rather than simply ideas with brief sketches. That being said, I like the idea, it seems pretty interesting. Although it would be annoying if it would flicker, it should fade between the colors instead. Also, as people have said, it should have 3 bars, not 4. Actually, since I was interested with this idea, I wasted my time spent some time making an in-game version. With fade: No fade: Sorry about the poor quality. That's what always aggravates me about GIFs: they can only have 256 colors :o Here are the PNG versions of each cape: They're based off of the real cape and trim colors. If you want, you can repost these images elsewhere, but you must give credit to me for making them

Porfolio re-imaging: SITE PREVIEW IS UP WITH DOCK
Hmm, I like how it's coming along. The font's much better now, and the background looks good too I was thinking about suggesting an auto-scroll for the icons, but I forgot to. Good idea Same here. If you guys don't know what he means, look at the background here, for example. It seems like this particular page wasn't meant to scroll, and if that's the case, then the scanlines could be a nice touch. Otherwise, on scrolling pages, the moiré pattern (I think that's the proper name of the phenomenon. See here.) created by scanlines would be incredibly aggravating, and I think it would only increase the fatigue on viewers' eyes, significantly more than normal screen refresh rates do (usually the reason your eyes hurt or get tired from too much TV or computer use). Scrolling + scanlines = definite no :o Although, I think I like the look of it better when it's a gradient, anyways

Macroers getting rebanned
Interesting way of putting it... But I see it as more of a case that the prison warden was letting people out because they had finished their sentences, but someone screwed up the paperwork, so some people who had the life sentence* were let out by mistake, and had to be locked up again :? What I'm mainly concerned with is that they'd better get their money back nonetheless, because that part is definitely unfair, regardless of how one looks at it. [hide=***]*Ignoring the fact that a life sentence doesn't really last for a person's whole life [/hide]

§ The Great Tip Pic of 2009! § ~ FINAL PICTURE RELEASED! ~
I was wondering, am I allowed to post a picture of my character which has been edited or "faked" in some way? Because I love screenshot faking, I'd love to be in the Tip Pic with some nonexistant weapons and/or armor. And no, it won't be a crappy 10-second paint job, either. I'll do my best to keep this professional-looking and full-quality. SoCanIPleaseSubmitAFakeAsMyCharacter??? (you can click an icon in my sig to go to one of the various RS fakes I've made)

We can't play 'for fun'?
When you're talking about a game, fun is basically a given. Don't tell me that choices such as "friends", "quests", and "minigames" are not related to fun :P The fact that it was multiple choice means that even more so - if you have fun in RuneScape, choose whatever things in RuneScape make you have fun. I have fun with the choices I mentioned above. I also have fun screenshot faking, so I selected "other" as well. Nobody said you can't have fun in RuneScape, just because it wasn't an explicit poll option. The key is why you have fun playing RuneScape, if that's why you play. Making a poll choice extremely vague is pointless, because it will almost definitely get the most votes, yet not provide any real information :? So you play because you're a masochist? This is the first quote I've ever found funny enough to go in my siggy  No but I think they only put up those questions that give them some info on how to improve the game. ot: yes I play RS for fun :P Yeah thats why old player submitted polls feature questyions like "If you were to take over Runescape with an army of evil food items, which of the following would you choose to build your army out of?" Clearly questions tht help jagex learn how to improve the game If that poll happened to take place sometime before Recipe for Disaster came out, I can definitely see how it helped improve the game :P If not... Time for a sequel?

Macroers getting rebanned
I was about to post about how it is fair to re-ban the accounts, but that they should definitely be refunded. If that is true, then hopefully they'll refund this time too. If not, Jagex will be pretty much screwed by the bad reputation :? It's definitely fair to re-ban the macroers, they deserved the bans to begin with, but they better get their money back for any new memberships they made, because that's completely unfair, it would be like an unintentional scam based on accidental misinformation from Jagex :?

Porfolio re-imaging: SITE PREVIEW IS UP WITH DOCK
I've really got no experience in web design (not to be confused with graphic design), so take my opinion as more of a "web viewer". I think that the roundness of the icons is a nice touch, just make the icons less rounded than they are in the example. It should look something more like this: It should be nearly square, but it's easier on the eyes to have slight roundness. Also, make sure all of the icons are equidistant, I have a feeling that's one thing that made your rounded one seem less professional than the square one (which is equidistant). About scanlines, I think it's sort of good, by making the background look less boring and empty, but it's only ok if the page won't be scrolling. Never use scanlines if a page will scroll! :o Otherwise, I think the scanlines would work if it's just a flash screen And about convenience and accessibility, I think that the thumbnail should come up if you hover over an icon, but not immediately. It should have a bit of a delay, and the thumbnail should fade in, smoothly but quickly. Then, if the user clicks this thumbnail, it goes to the fullscreen version you mentioned. As far as fonts, yes, it should be a px or two larger :. But I think ipkjooo's suggestion of a dynamic setup that looks good no matter what the resolution is brilliant :D . If you have multiple computers, or access to a public library or internet cafe, you should test the page out in those locations, on differently sized monitors. Keep in mind that, in Flash, it will actually be based off of the window size, not the actual resolution of a monitor. But setting up an interface to be dynamic in that way is definitely a huge plus :D (if you noticed in my flash RS video interface, you can't drag any of the windows off-screen, and if you move a window to the edge of the browser, then resize the browser, the windows within the application will move so that they all remain on the screen). If you try to make your page's content change size relative to the size of the browser window, it will be very convenient and helpful, thus making it look more professional :

What part(s) of this image are fake?
Actually, that's one of the goals of faking - to make something look like it's convincingly from RuneScape. Of course, part of the reason is that many people here don't play RuneScape anymore
-
What part(s) of this image are fake?
Thanks I wouldn't have bothered posting a topic like this if it were easy
-
What part(s) of this image are fake?
Good point, but, if you want to be that specific about things, then every part of the image is fake o_O If someone were to go into MS Paint and paste a screenshot, and then press Ctrl+I to invert it, every pixel will be different, but they didn't really do anything to achieve it. It doesn't exactly take too much effort to change the color of something. But, going over the image, I suppose you're right, I realize I made the contrast too strong on the vines Anyways, I've posted the background info, and how I made the pic, now
