Nice :P So why didn't the GE work for you? I didn't quite catch that when we were talking. Anyways, in hopes that someone sees it on this topic:

The True World Map? Post your findings! [Updated 2014]
Actually, I'm pretty sure that was an Halloween event from... 07, since I remember that place and I wasn't playing in 05... I could be wrong, but I think it was the event with the ghost gun or w/e... You had to shoot stuff at ghosts. It has the painting tables and marionette parts, and I'm pretty sure they weren't there in the Halloween '06 event. Actually, when I was a noob, the '06 event was the first I partook in. I was wondering why there were paint buckets, and, on the lower floor, parts of marionettes, when you couldn't do anything with them. But they definitely were there in the H'ween event :P

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
I decided to see the limits to which I can push the Orb of Oculus. Namely, going to a fourth-floor location (Fally Castle Tower), then using the Orb at max camera height in HD Stretched mode. Then, to amplify the sky-view effect, I did a little editing trick where you shrink an HD Stretched screen into the small mode interface: Even higher, but my comp can't handle it, so nothing outside the gates will render: (ignore the fake chatbox and interface bits - this may become used by the TBFL at Sal's Realm in a fake. But I'm posting it in the fake interface to increase the sense of height - I think this could look cool in a Machinima too :P)

The True World Map? Post your findings! [Updated 2014]
Sorry I haven't contributed any images here, but I was wondering if someone can check around all borders of the Mind Altar? I remember a while ago (prior to the Orb, of course) that I was RC'ing in HD Large mode, and I walked to one side (I don't recall which) and could see random red, blue, green, yellow, and white flickering lines and sparks at the edge of the screen - but only as I rotated the camera (I joked to my friend that perhaps it's a hallucination :P). Perhaps there's something hidden behind a black wall off the border there? And I'd like to relay an interesting discovery someone on the RuneWiki forums made - you can examine objects while using the Orb, but it's tricky. You have to right click immediately after hitting Esc, so you still have the right-click menu after it focuses back on you. Then you can click examine and examine any object, regardless of how far away it is :o

The True World Map? Post your findings! [Updated 2014]
1 Dimensional would be a straight line :???: And instead of starting over, why not compile our findings into the map that's been constructed so far? http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/263/trueworldmap2nb1.jpg That's on the front page :P

The True World Map? Post your findings! [Updated 2014]
Okay; I just pointed that out since you speculated that there may be more levels above +3. I doubt Jagex would find any need to do that, as they've used this system for so long. Besides, the only thing that could need more than four above-ground levels would be a massive tower, and they could just make it so the stairs on level +3 send you off the map to the rest of the tower (split in four sections at a time) :P

The True World Map? Post your findings! [Updated 2014]
Actually, after RuneScape HD, there are precisely 5 floors, ranging from -1 (used for features such as rocks in the water, because water is now transparent and lets you see slightly under it) to +3 (highest level available). Level 0 is the ground level, and, to the best of my knowledge, -1 is never used for dungeons, and only used for underwater decoration (note that this is NOT where you go if you are diving!). Here's a quote proving that: Source: http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/diary08b Of course, they could have changed it by now, so don't kill me if that isn't 100% accurate :P

Strange power
yeah jas is like an elder god or something that created the stone, way before guthix. there's ties with the dragonkin and probably frensakae (or however it's spelled.) but i reckon jas is a dead god and that is why the dragonkin appear to be rogue. [runewiki] [/hide] I edited my post my theory is that it's the Oracle personally :P that'd be awesome though a return of Jas too. yeah he's obviously a powerful figure having created the stone and enslaved the dragonkin, but as i said if he's still around he's either in hiding (yeah maybe a character like the oracle) or departed from gielnor. would definately be nice to see him again, any quest related to him would probably involve rounding up the dragonkin and stuff so yeah. Maybe Jas can only unlock the true power of the Stone of Jas and currently it's only working at a very low percent :P this is hilarious because JAS is an acronym for java application server which is basically what the game runs on (probably not a naming coincidence there) and for players to use the upgraded stone (stats above 255) would require an upgrade to the JAS - because the maximum usable value is currently 255 (or was, but i think they've got past it now with rt5 - see the corp, nomad's hp) funny! Weapons could also do a percentage of the monsters hp (such as ruby bolts) so you can still hit harder.. say if they made a weapon like a Thors hammer which is the Staff of Armadyl in RuneScape that could weaken the monster futher or just increase damage by a range of 20-100 lets say.. also I kind of meant for Jas to use not our players, so Jagex could make a cutscene with it hitting a tonne not necessarily having 255 stats, I'm not sure if it can go past 255 though, I heard that whilst reading up on lores etc a while ago, but I'm not sure on full capabilities of java. Actually, there's no such thing as an unsigned byte in Java. An unsigned byte could have a range of 0 to 255 (a total of 256 values), but such a data type doesn't exist in Java. The closest thing in Java is a signed byte which ranges from -128 to 127 (again, a total of 256 values). Theoretically, they could use that to store values and display the output on-screen as a signed short (-32768 to 32767, or a total of 65535 values), but this seems redundant to me considering levels are in fact stored based on experience points (which are apparently stored as longs, which are practically "limitless" (at least within the scope of making a game)). I think the whole "limit" of 255, at least since their engine updates (and the corp existed prior to RuneTek5, so it could have been changed in an earlier version of RuneTek), is just a farce. They obviously didn't want to go into four-digit numbers, and 100 would be too low, whilst 999 would be far too high. So I think they just chose 255 because it looks like a nice number to go with, especially for someone with a background in programming :P However, it is a good observation that JAS is a Java-related acronym, as that does seem like something Jagex would do

This is my version of multitasking...
Erm, according to Task Manager, it only gave a .01 GB increase, and no noticeable CPU increase, while it's actually making 1 window transparent. It's currently consuming 1920K of my ram, and that's barely 19 MB. So, odds are your computer can run it :P I played transparent RuneScape in HD using WiFi internet, and I hardly lagged at all (sure, I lost connection at one point, but that's my fault for not using LAN ). And, in the preview pic I posted, I wasn't lagging at all - neither in RS nor in my FontStruct page. So it's a surprisingly small program, using a feature that's already built-in in Windows (I think it existed back in XP, and I also think command lines in Visual Basic can manually evoke the transparency of a form. I may be incorrect though), and I've yet to actually lag from it
-
This is my version of multitasking...
Actually, it's a program to make entire windows transparent, not an add-on :P. I'm using the RS desktop client and Firefox separately, with Firefox being transparent. But it lets you make anything transparent, even Word or Photoshop :P Yeah, I'm currently on a laptop (at least until my dad gives me his desktop; I think he's getting himself a new one for X-mas), so it does help
-
This is my version of multitasking...
Now, when you're doing something boring, like ess mining or fishing, odds are you like to switch to a different window/tab to do something else, such as read forum posts or watch a video. Of course, you still have to switch back to pay attention to randoms, friends logging in, people talking, your inventory filling, etc. Well, I found this program which can make your windows partially transparent (to any amount you want), and I tried using it to make multitasking even easier. Here's me mining essence and making a font, for example: Basically, I made the Firefox window transparent, and saw when my inventory filled or a friend spoke, so I only switched back when I had to. The same principle can be applied to multitasking while powermining or any similarly boring yet click-heavy activity: Make the RS window transparent, and read/watch stuff from another window under it as you click. There's a few other things I find this program useful for too, such as helping you get a screenshot at exactly the same camera angle as someone else's shot. And then there's also a plethora of non-RS things you can use if for too, but I don't want to stray off topic much :P You can download the program here: http://www.vaultmate.com/freewaregifts.php It's the "Widows Alpha Blender 1.2" (spell fail :P), and, once it's installed, you can use its shortcuts (Ctrl+F11 to decrease transparency, Ctrl+F12 to increase it) whenever it is open. You can also customize the shortcuts and set it to turn on automatically when you turn your computer on. Note that each window's transparency changes separately, so you can have some transparent and others solid, in whatever combo you like :P

6 RuneScape Fonts - with 200 characters each!
Guys, the fonts are updated again >.< The biggest difference is just that zeros no longer have slashes through them, but you may still want to re-download the fonts

6 RuneScape Fonts - with 200 characters each!
Yes, the regular font, as well as bold, are fully up-to-date :) Actually, unless they made some changes to the other fonts as well, those should be up-to-date too :)

I've made the new overhead chat font. If you still use the old one, switch to the new one ASAP! :o

Welcome to Invision Power Board!
HOLY.... Yeah, im soo using those from now on. Lovely work on them! Thanks! I doubt it's editing live, that sort of feature would be ridiculous It's just the "Quick Edit" feature, which apparently does everything the normal editor can, with the exception of modifying Post Options (e.g. hiding your signature). IPB 2 has it as well, except it's much more watered down. With IPB 3, it's pretty much the whole editor crammed into the topic page :o

I don't think any forum has that :/ Just upload your smily, get its direct URL, and put it in IMG tags, like I do with my custom smilies Example: Codes: [img=http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8608/newawareyf9.gif] [img=http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3677/angryveinho0.gif] [img=http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4974/deckofcardsfr2.gif] [img=http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/9709/hehsweatdropvo0.gif] [img=http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/8615/insomniablinkws1.gif] [img=http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4505/ivegotmyeyesonyoutb0.gif] [img=http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9522/noobcalleruq1.gif] [img=http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7833/pacmanbq5.gif] [img=http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1569/strugglingfishermanou2.gif] [img=http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7949/stfuedwy7.gif] [img=http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/3093/minerah0.gif] [img=http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/9438/woodcuttertn6.gif] [img=http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9030/musclemanvm5.gif] [img=http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5231/whiteknightax3.gif] [img=http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1018/earthwizardbz0.gif] [img=http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/3681/archerxj3.gif] [img=http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/2056/waterrune2el9.gif] Note that I made all those emotes, so no ripping. Guys, I've made a major update! Check it out!

6 RuneScape Fonts - with 200 characters each!
I believe that unbolded is used in the chatbox while bolded is what appears over our head, although I might be wrong. Actually, I think they both use the unbold form, but the text above our head has two of each letter of them, one in yellow and a shadow in black. Actually, the unbolded one is for chatboxes, skill XP, quest descriptions and logs, etc. The bold is for overhead chat. You're right about the shadow, but wrong about the boldness - it should be bold overhead. Either way, I've just added an incomplete text machine to make shadowing easier :P

6 RuneScape Fonts - with 200 characters each!
Wow, thanks for all the comments, guys! :D I didn't really count, but it may have been anywhere between 3 to 6 hours :o The main reason is screenshot faking. You'd be surprised how many members of Sal's Realm rely on fonts for their faking :P Since the font everyone had used there for so long is now out-of-date (due to Jagex's updates), I decided to do this to keep it up-to-date. The funny thing is that two other people made fonts at the same time I did :o. But mine's the only one with all the ASCII and punctuation characters, as well as the only one with the correct bolded characters :P Another reason I've seen people use RS fonts is for videos so they don't have to get worried about getting muted :P Are we able to use different fonts on TIF? Unfortunately, I don't think so :( I suppose it would be very useful for faking screenshots, amongst other things. It must have taken a lot of work though, so, well done Wolfie! thats true, but couldn't you just take a screen shot of all the letters and erase everything eles? anyhow great job must have taken forever... =D> =D> =D> Well, that method would certainly work... But some screenshot fakers are too lazy to do that and would rather use Arial instead :?. Of course, that's the highway to crappy fakes, so giving them an alternative it a much better option :P. Besides, too many people, especially at Sal's Realm, have gotten far too used to faking with a font (I think the old font, by Maxthedragon, was made sometime around 2005-06), and now that it's outdated, it left a real standstill in fake making for many of them. It's funny how much some of them rely on the font (don't get me wrong, I use the font too :P). When Jagex temporarily released that new font a while ago (the one that got flamed straight out of RS by a horde of angry RSOFers :P), you should have seen how scared some of the fakers at Sal's were... As though a new font means "the apocalypse of faking" :o. :D Thanks, I'm glad you like it that much!

6 RuneScape Fonts - with 200 characters each!
EDIT 12/8/09: Jagex updated the fonts again <_< Well, the biggest change is that zero no longer has a slash through it in any font (basically, it changed in all the fonts). Also, I have added the Alt+0151 () character to all fonts now that it is visible (R.I.P. Alt+0151 Glitch ), and fixed the * (asterisk) in the Friends List Font, as well as adding the ellipses () to the Friends List Font. So, basically, if you have OCD like me, and want your fonts to be perfect, you have to re-download all of them through here: http://sites.google.com/site/interactiverune/kits/fonts Of course, odds are the only one you use is the Bold Chat Font 2 (Current) (the overhead text that's most commonly used in RuneScape videos), so you can get the updated one from one of the following locations: RuneScape Chat Bold 2 (Overhead Text, some Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EDIT 12/7/09: Attention, I have updated the RuneScape Chat Bold font. It can now be downloaded at the following locations: RuneScape Chat Bold 2 (Overhead Text, some Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct Here's the difference: (New one is on right) Here's my site where you can still download the old fonts, as well as an updated RuneScape Chat Regular: http://sites.google.com/site/interactiverune/kits/fonts ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's right, I've made new fonts. There's six now, counting the two I did before. It took forever to pixel each individual character for each font, and each font now has 200 characters (well, 199, but if you count either the space or the invisible Alt+0151, then it's 200. Or 201 if you count both ). So, basically, each font has every character that can be said in RuneScape, including standard keyboard characters, all ASCII codes, and all additional quotation marks and the Infinity Symbol. Note that the Infinity Symbol (∞) has been stored in the Trademark Sign () slot, because the editor I used (FontStruct) has no infinity slot, and RuneScape does not have a TM sign, while some item quantities in RuneScape do use infinity. Also note that many characters do not exist in certain fonts (such as the Friends List Font, which only has A-Z a-z 0-9, and does not even have any punctuation marks), so I had to improvise a lot. That's another thing - if you're concerned about the accuracy of my fonts, there's a list below showing which characters are guaranteed to be 100% accurate for which font. For all of my fonts except the Large font, the spacing between letters and words is 100% accurate. The reason it's not perfect in the Large font is because I nearly died of boredom trying to perfect the spacing for the NPC Chat font. For the NPC font, I had to literally download and test the font hundreds of times, retype several in-game books and messages, overlap it with the originals, and get all of the letters to align perfectly. I spent hours combing through the font fixing the spacing errors, and every time I fixed one error another one was created somewhere else . That font took me three days to get perfect, and I honestly don't feel like repeating the process for the Large font, which would take even longer due to its higher complexity :o. So the Large font's spacing is only approximate, but I hope you guys don't mind. After all, I've found many spacing errors in RuneScape fonts made by other people, especially in the NPC Chat font, so this certainly won't be the first RS font with inaccurate spacing - it'll just be the first of my fonts with inaccurate spacing . Here are the fonts and their download/viewing links (note that the first two have been updated - you may want to reinstall them if you already downloaded them before!): ---------------------------------------------------------------------- *THIS SECTION IS OUTDATED. DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM HERE; USE THIS INSTEAD.* RuneScape Chat (Used in Chatbox, Quest/Skill Guides, Experience, and many Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct RuneScape Chat Bold (Overhead Text, some Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct RuneScape Small (Quest List, Music List, Notes, Spell Descriptions, and many Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct RuneScape Friends List (Friends List, Ignore List, and Clan Chat): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct RuneScape NPC Chat (NPC Chat, Level Ups, Books, Scrolls, and some Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct RuneScape Large (Titles of Quests, Books, Scrolls, and some Interfaces): MediaFire- InteractiveRune- FontStruct ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: for the Chat, Chat Bold, Small, and Friends List fonts, the normal font size is 16, for MS Paint and HTML it is 12, and for Invision Board Forums such as Sal's Realm, RuneHQ, and Zybez, they are size 3. For the NPC Chat and Large fonts, the normal size is 32, the Paint/HTML size is 24, and the forum size is 6. Here is the font-character accuracy list (all characters shown are accurate for that font): ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RuneScape Chat: !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®¯°±²³´µ¶·¸¹º»¼½¾¿ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓ''ÖרÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõö÷øùúûüýþÿ RuneScape Chat Bold: !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®¯°±²³´µ¶·¸¹º»¼½¾¿ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓ''ÖרÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõö÷øùúûüýþÿ RuneScape Small: !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®¯°±²³´µ¶·¸¹º»¼½¾¿ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓ''ÖרÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõö÷øùúûüýþÿ RuneScape Friends List: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789 RuneScape NPC Chat: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.,?!/*()'`Éßàâçéêõöü RuneScape Large: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz12.!&ÀÁÉßàâãäçèéêíîïóôõöûü ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Font Kit In addition to all that, I've made a massive kit for these fonts, with all of the most commonly used colors and formatting for each font, as well as the formatting for a few fonts I didn't make files for - namely, because they're just different versions of Arial. Those fonts would be the old loading bar font, all world map fonts, and all fonts from RuneScape Classic. The kit's currently incomplete (as you can tell by the 4 "reserved" sections), but it has 8 groups and 75 subgroups completed. Click one of the links below, but it's a large image that may take a while to load: <!-- m -->http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5121/run ... ntskit.png<!-- m --> <!-- m -->http://sites.google.com/site/interactiv ... edirects=0<!-- m --> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Font Machine I also made a fully interactive font machine with all of the most commonly used colors, as well as buttons that can automatically format pixel-shadows in any direction, as well as being able to create outlines. You can also enter your own custom colors into the box at the bottom-right. With this, you don't have to worry about font sizes or eyedroppering the colors or turning off font smoothing, etc... Actually, you don't even need to download any of the fonts to use this! :o It can come in handy for people who can't download fonts or for people who can't get the font size right for some reason, and it can also be helpful for people who don't want to go through the trouble of manual formatting in Paint. You can click the arrows at the top to switch fonts (you'll lose anything you typed, though! :o), type in the white box, change colors with the color buttons (the ones with a lighter background are the ones commonly used for that font), use the Default button to revert to the default formatting, activate a standard 1-px down, 1-px right shadow with the "S" button, make a rounded 1-pixel outline with the "O" button, or make any combination of outlines/shadows using any of the arrow buttons - they create a shadow in the direction they point. Note that there's an unsolved bug with shadows/outlines if you fill up the whole box - the part you're typing in will scroll, but the shadows will not. As long as you don't have too many lines in the box, you shouldn't run into this issue. If you do, just stop typing once you've filled the box, take a screenshot, and clear the box and type the rest. It's pretty straightforward to use: [*:3p8soc6r]Choose a font [*:3p8soc6r]Type your text [*:3p8soc6r]Select the formats/color you want to use [*:3p8soc6r]Take a screenshot [*:3p8soc6r]Paste it into your graphics editor You can use the machine at one of the following links - InteractiveRune- zSHARE In addition, you can download the machine at MediaFire - Windows- Mac ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Youtube I've also made a Youtube video about my fonts. If you've already read this topic, there's no real need for you to watch the video, but I'd appreciate if you would click the link (so it gets a view), and possibly even rate it and leave a comment, so that the video will show up higher in Youtube searches for "RuneScape font", helping other people who may be looking for RS fonts. Of course, that's entirely your choice whether or not you want to do it, and if a moderator has a problem with this section, I don't really mind removing it. The video has all the links provided in this topic, as well as links to every copy of this topic at the several forums I've posted it at. It just basically demonstrates all 6 fonts, quickly scrolls through the kit, and briefly demonstrates how to use the font machine. Here is the Youtube link: <!-- m --> <!-- m --> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- More information about these fonts may be found at my website: <!-- m -->http://sites.google.com/site/interactiverune/kits/fonts<!-- m -->

Profanity: Legally Bypassing the RS Censor
I think this is actually a very good idea. I hate when it just stars it out, and doesn't give you the slightest clue what it actually is. I tried telling my friend that I'm pissed off the other day. The censor comes to the rescue -.-, leaving my friend with the need to fill in the blanks. What am I? Am I f***ed off? Am I crapped off? Am I s***ed off? Have I jacked off? So I try again, this time by using only one s, and saying I'm "pised off". Of course, even though I'm in private chat, with a friend I know in real life, it still has to be censored :x. So, what does "***** off" mean? Assed off? Raped off? My final attempt was pretty much a despairing search for something that's non censored. Apparently, "urinated off" is also considered inappropriate in RS #-o I think that they should probably make a "selective censor" instead. Basically, you could set the level of your censor. People playing that are under 13 would be forced to use the full-strength censor, just like they have to use quickchat to talk, but everyone else could go with the f***ing genius method zaaps1 described :. People who don't want to can use the full-strength censor if they prefer. Actually, similar to how it works in WoW (I don't play, but a friend told me about its censor system), they should let people turn the censor off altogether if they really want to. Maybe they could put an age requirement, like 16 or 18 or so, but anyone above 13 could still use the semi-censored mode EDIT: Also, an option so messages from a friend (must be a mutual friend, on both of your friends lists) can have a censor level separate from normal chat censor. In other words, chat from anyone except your friends can be fully censored, while chat by a friend only gets the partial censor. Or, use the partial censor for non-friends, and don't censor friends at all. Basically, you would have two slider bars to adjust censor levels for friends and non-friends :)

Should the playing time be limited when playin RuneScape?
I personally don't see the need for any concrete limits - it's up to the person themselves to decide when to get off. For those of you who don't know how restricting this can be, copy-and-paste the following code into Command Prompt (Windows Key + R or Start --> Run): shutdown[Caution: Executable File] -s -t 28800 -c "We don't want you on your computer for too long, now do we? :P" If you actually did that, well, picture a timer like that coming up when you log in RS. Even if 8 hours is a lot of time, it would be as annoying as hell to worry about how long you've got left <_< Coming from a person with maxed stats seems like you need to take some responsibility I'm against limiting play time. Now prove I play more than 10 hours a day. My highest stat is cooking, at level 40. And it's higher than my level 32 combat, too. Clearly I waste my life away playing RS over 10 hours a day . You don't have to be directly affected by something to be compelled to speak against it, and most people against this aren't playing 8+ hours a day either way. You don't believe in gaming addiction? I beg your pardon? So people who have to play RuneScape every day, become aggressive when they can't play it and do it more then 8 hours a day aren't addicted? (there were examples of people like that in the article) That gaming addiction excists isn't even a point of discussion, it's a fact. Pfft. No. An addiction is a physical dependence. A game can never alter your body chemistry so that it feels it can't live without it. You can't go through withdrawals from not playing a game. It's all [cabbage]. You see back in the day people had a name for kids like that. It was spoiled little brats. Do you know how they solved it? They made their [wagon] look like someone had set them on fire. It's not an addiction, it's a complete lack of discipline from parents. You are talking about a physical addiction. Just because games are not physically addictive does not mean that they are not addicting. There can also be psychological addictions. Again, no. with a psychological addiction you would begin to manifest physical withdrawal symptoms. Seriously, it's all just kids being [bleep]s because their parents won't let them do what they want. Everything bad in a person's personality is made out to be a disease these days. People should just learn to accept that everything in life is not rosy and that both kids, and adults will act like total [bleep]s if they don't get their way. If you gain joy from something, or generally any emotion, it's the result of a change in the neurotransmitters in your brain. That's a chemical change, thus it is physical. In this manner, an emotional addiction can occur to generally anything, even in the same manner it does for addictive drugs :o. And there is a "withdrawal effect", too. I've known several people, myself included, who were significantly effected from avoiding the internet. I stayed off of the internet for over a year, not logging into any forums or playing MMO's, and even rarely going on Wikipedia. For this year, my grades significantly dropped, I was actually getting less sleep than before, I started falling asleep in class, I became more irritable, nearly got into a fight, etc... All this while eschewing the internet and the forums I had been very active on previously. And I've been on an actual withdrawal effect from real medications as well, so I know what it's like. My withdrawal from the internet was very much the same, regardless of the fact that going on the internet's not putting actual chemicals into my blood :o. In reality, it's all in the brain, and that's how addictions operate. The stimulus does not need to be a physical drug to create an addiction, the only requirement is that it elicits a chemical change in the brain, and games have been scientifically proven to be capable of doing this. exactly. Teachers at my elementary school tried to get my mom to put me on Ritalin when i was like 8 because they claimed I had A.D.D. I most assuredly do not have A.D.D. and my mom told them where they could shove their ritalin. The same happened to me, although my school's policy was different in that manner. My mother was forced to put me on Ritalin, under the threat of them sending me into Special Education. Yeah, straight A's, mostly hundreds, and many, many Student of the Month awards, and they're still entitled to say I'm a sped who can't focus for [cabbage] :x. And it was only one teacher who had a problem with me, too :o. So my mom did it, and noticed me doing progressively worse, both educationally and socially :?. The doctor decided that constantly increasing dosages and changing brands would be a good idea <_<. There have been known cases of prescribed overdoses on ADD med's, but that didn't stop him. Then the doctor decided that I'm also apparently depressed, so he put me on anti-depressants -.-. Have you ever heard of an 8-year old threatening to hang himself before? And I'm completely against suicide in any way whatsoever. Nowadays, I'd rather live to the very cold, hard end, regardless of how it may come, rather than committing suicide. Is it a coincidence that the only time in my life that I'd ever consider suicide was just a few days after I was put on anti-depressants? -.- Or the fact that, recently, ironically during my "withdrawal" from the internet, I was prescribed with anti-depressants again, and barely two days later I nearly have a nervous breakdown and contemplate running in front of a car in the street . Psychiatrists are [developmentally delayed]ed. The two worst times of my life were both directly influenced by medicines they prescribed. Anyways, after I was suicidal at age 8, my mom decided to secretly stop giving me the medicines (both the anti-depressants and the ADHD meds), without telling the psychiatrist or the school. At first, as expected, I went into the withdrawal effect, but after that was over, I was finally back to normal. My grades went back up, I made more friends, and my teachers stopped calling and asking if I'd taken my medicine each day (yes, they were calling about this long before I had stopped taking the medicine, ironically :o). I think the only one good thing that actually came out of psychiatry [bleep]-ing up my childhood is the fact that I won't do drugs later in my life. The stuff you get on the streets is probably almost as bad as the [cabbage] psychiatrists prescribed me with :o :P. Coming from a person with maxed stats seems like you need to take some responsibility not everyone with high stats plays all day every day. if you play efeciently you can get high stats pretty easily I don't care how efficient you are, if you have really high levels, you play alot. I started playing this game in 2001 and I only have 1 level 99. Someone who only plays for a year or 2 and has almost all 99's plays a lot. Certain skills like agility and slayer, to name a few, take a long time to level up. Even other skills take a while. I love how nearly everyone who brings up when they started playing started in 2001. And the funny thing is, they always have pathetic skills and their excuses? "I took breaks a lot" "I was hacked" "I was banned" "I'm not a nerd and plays a lot" etc. Maybe because they did start playing in 2001 when many people were learning about RS. Why would you need an excuse for bad skills, you need an excuse for good skills because that means you may need to tone it down a bit. What's your excuse for that 99 then? I'm proud to proclaim that not one of my skills have reached even level 50 yet! :P (note: I will actually try getting a 99 or two this summer, which is probably going to be the first time that I'll actually be an active player :o. Until now, I've either lacked the time to play, or I wasn't able to play (i.e. 1 year avoiding the internet, three summers visiting relatives with no internet, etc...) I personaly think that a thing like this would work for a lot of people! I would like this, although I wouldn't be worried about playing for several hours since I never have that kind of time. I would just like to see how much I play on those days I am not working. I would really like a system like that, as I do tend to get carried away and waste time. I was surprised when I saw I played 6 hours on a new account I'd created, a message like that would have definitely resulted in me logging off sooner . And, whocares, if you're counting, I've only been on that account 3 times in its existence, and it's the first time I've actually tried to seriously gain levels this year, so don't bother bringing up my level 7 account in your counterargument :P

could we make a pixel mmorpg together?
I'm no true expert on these things, but I'd say that seems to be the only thing keeping your idea apart from Pomar's. But, if you want any sort of MMO to be successful, it would need a dedicated staff to keep making updates and additions to it, a hardworking moderation staff to keep the game in-check and fair and handle abuse reports, skilled programmers to deal with bugs and glitches ASAP, and, generally, the whole thing would be a team effort of dedicated people. If you want an MMO that will eventually crumble to dust, you can ignore those requirements, but the results wouldn't really satisfy you :(. I'm mainly skilled with graphics, and I know how arduous a task it can be to make many sprites that all look good and blend in with each other. That still doesn't stop me from working on a game I plan to be making, but it won't be an MMO. If I ever gain enough knowledge of coding servers, I may be able to have a few multiplayer features, but it will still be an overwhelmingly single-player game. The sort of task you've described (and your description is still rather hazy in my eyes :?) would not just be something to fill your summer. It would take several of your summers away, so make sure that you're ready for this sort of commitment. I'm not trying to put you off of your ideas, but I'd recommend reading into it more before starting on something too big for you to ever accomplish. I once had plans for a Mario-themed MMO, but those plans have pretty much disintegrated for me :(. That won't stop me from making a single-player version, but I'm not going to start thinking MMO's any time soon. I suggest you try making a large single-player game first, to see the difficulty in that alone, and then you can decide whether to move back onto your plans for an MMO ;)
