I would really like to get summoning to 92 to complete the Ardougne elite tasks, other than that I am determined to do more Barrows and make some effort to try dungeoneering again.

So many people have asked for the combat triangle to be fixed, you are the first person I have seen posting who is happy with the current system. Jagex are definitely intending to rebalance the combat system and have indicated that it will be this year.
-
Well put!.....that would make it a GREAT year on RS and Tipit

Good to see the results of the survey, I wasn't sure what it was for and actually quite interesting results although not many surprises. Although I have to agree with the author that the one surprise was to see an equal balance between positive and negative outcomes about Jagex. The negatives have previously come out very strongly in the forum posts. I found Blyaunte's article on understanding efficiency very good. A method of game play that I do not really comprehend and is definitely not for me! However, she explained how it was fun for hobby mathematicians (is there such a thing? ) and gave me a greater understanding of true efficiency players. It also widened the gap between those who complain about the game being boring and 'grindy' and throw the word 'efficiency' around, those like myself who play erratically in the most enjoyable way for me, and the truly efficient players who take pleasure from their planning and strategic approach.

I agree that the comic was poor...was it even meant to be funny? I just didn't 'get it'. So I give you this as my response to that and the years review of RS article
-
Well that is definitely a double edged comment....
-
Yes, negative and positive both, neverendingly. Although Blizzard and Activision are the same company. I was surprised by your answer, what on earth is the point? Didn't know about Blizzard and Activision...always good to find out something new

It will probably take a while, but can you imagine the finished display? Good luck with it Serena_Myr if you decide to take it on

I thought the article by Ts_Stormrage was interesting, he highlighted the move that many companies have taken in providing membership incentives for new customers. I agree that it is pointless to feel envy as it is such a common marketing tactic. For example if you consider mobile (cell) phone companies offering extra minutes or extra features to new customers, but old customers don't get those 'benefits'. The word benefits is used loosely here as it is down to perception, again this is reiterated by Ts_Stormrage. Fair and balanced article in my opinion. The article by sees_all1, did nothing for me, I felt the argument about using highscores to determine the player activity and financial success of Jagex was very weak. I thought the personal stance on refusing to pay for membership unless highscores for F2P are reinstated was cringeworthy in a tipit article. What I struggle in understanding is why anyone is particularly interested in Jagex's financial situation? If people are still playing and the game continues why does it matter to someone, unless they are buying shares in the company? Do other players do this constant negative, financial analysis of 'Blizzard', 'Zynga' or 'Activision'?

I keep meaning to post on this thread and have finally got around to it. All I want to say is how impressed I am with the effort that has gone into showing the quest links, I found it really interesting to look at and would love to see it portrayed in full computer graphics....anyone have the skills to do that?
-
Oddly enough, I am writing one as we speak ... :-P That's great news, I look forward to it and hopefully we can have some fun debating without the 'trolling'

I have to say that I find this thread a lot more interesting and stimulating than the tipit times this month. I think there are some extremely valid arguments and people are expressing some well grounded opinions (from both sides). This thread should have been the tipit times! I have absolutely no problem with people promoting their preferred style of game play, mine is erratic and fun based, others prefer efficiency...and I love to argue about it...so what? It would be great to see a pro efficiency article on the tipit times, but yes I would express an opinion, isn't that the point? I would like to see more articles by RS players, real people with real experiences or opinions, what about a 'short excerpts' page? Asking fans to write a paragraph about this months 'topic'? The topic could be done from a poll the previous month. There are so many ways that as a fan site you could offer more to the wider audience. Let me ask; why do the articles have to be to a certain standard? If it is spelled correctly and the grammar is ok and it reads ok, then let me read it. I don't need intellectual stimulation, I want opinions that interest me and challenge me.

I started a new F2P character today and on entering into the 'tutorial' mode, I found this. I have no idea if they were able to activate these or not because they were standing there for ages, but I was very disappointed that they are obviously getting through the first hurdle already. I have reported some of them.

If enough players farmed them en mass, the price would come back down. So in a longer run, he could make a heavy profit by farming chins now, selling them at their bloated price, and then when the price comes back down, buy them for the reduced cost. He won't gather nearly as many as he'll end up buying, and rather than the whole process costing him, he'll still turn a profit. Runescape is all around capitalism, and now that our cheap labor (bots) is gone, prices are going to rise as the goods saturating the market slowly make their way out. You can either complain, or you can try to be part of the solution. Exactly where I was coming from, I can feel the GP just calling me! Take it easy there tiger, breathe. I play the game in a manner that I personally find fun. Im in no huge rush to max out or complete this game as I enjoy the progression just as much as being able to say 'omg guys, i have 99 farmz!'. I would rather take a little longer and in the end, Ill get to the same place eventually. If I am seeking a thrill then I go do a quest or some slayer...otherwise my preference is totally chilling out and having fun, for me progression comes naturally as part of the way I play

It might not be part of your thinking, but you cannot assume everyone thinks like you. I certainly don't, otherwise I wouldn't have raised it would I? Powering through levels, in the long term/max perspective, means keeping skills sub-99 for the sake of effigy/assist/new quest xp. For me that was the point of the thread is to see if there was a trade off, it wouldn't be a discussion/debate if I had all the answers to start with. I really don't want to go down this pernickety route that you seem so keen to follow. Albeit the wording was not exactly as you liked, I am happy that most people on this thread have been sharing their reasons for powering through their levels to 99 (or not), some vary their game play and many appear to have different reasons for it. It looks as though some take longevity into consideration and probably particularly those who have already been playing a long time.
-
I agree with that, hence my questions to see why people have done or do it and whether they have considered the longevity of the game by including game variance. My point was about why people head so quickly for 99, what about varying game play and thinking about the longevity of RS for them as individuals? I believe I was fairly clear, hopefully people read the topic title and the post, I don't believe I have mentioned anywhere about levels vs 99's, not sure where you got that from...see excerpt below: What about using effigies to train the skills you hate? Obtaurian made me laugh with that! I gather you have a very different style of game. I think thats a good idea Blyaunte, certainly for the skill i dislike most I use tears at the moment. Good stuff, although what will you do when you reach max total level? Will you just play the game in a different way?
-
Because I am interested, that's the whole point  Some interesting reasons for going for 99, I like the idea of training 'unconventionally', probably some nice ideas there for others  I thought goal setting was likely to be a more common answer, to give purpose. I totally agree about relaxing after work and thieving is my preference for that for exactly the same reasons as you and like Chenw my xp has come naturally (I think my xp is around 25m now). That is an element I don't understand with some players, as someone else has mentioned here. Why power to 99 if you end up hating it and as you said can end up putting yourself off the game! I can see the fun in 'screwing around with outfits', I have a bank tab just for that  I wonder if many other people just wear the same thing (except for armour) or have a bank wardrobe? That kind of thing is about having fun with the game and gives hope to the game longevity. Looks like you've found what you enjoy and if they keep doing updates like Dominion Tower that means you can keep boss hunting for a long time! I must admit I have personally found people more chatty since the bot busting, not sure why we've had different experiences. Nothing wrong with talking, I suppose for some they may worry about falling behind in the competitive stakes. Mine are low for the amount of time I've played too. Did you put yourself off range and mage by doing 99 that way, or do you still enjoy it? Oh I am soooo with you on learning not to do it that way again, I did start that for one skill and stopped when I realised how much it was winding me up! Thats when I starting thinking about how long I would play RS for and nowadays I wonder if for some RS is just a short term game, with the aim to get all 99's and quit, or whether like you said aim for some longevity. Sounds like you're a 'system's person, a logical and systematic approach to your game play. I can be a bit over the top about trying to keep all my skills fairly level but I'm not as organised as you :-D

I really shouldn't have used the word efficiency :wall: I am not interested in efficiency. I don't care how people get to 99, I want to understand why some people are really involved in RPG, imaginative game play and varied game play, while others are intent on getting everything to 99 to then do......what?
-
What because I used the word 'efficiency'? Probably useful to read it in context. This is a comparison between powering to 99, or other ways of playing.
-
I wanted to start a discussion here to get some different perspectives on your game play. There have been numerous comments about efficient play or powering through to 99, how costly it is to achieve 99 in this or that skill and what is the quickest 99 to get. I have been playing for about 5 years and have three level 99s, one of which took me over a year to achieve because I wanted to do it at no monetary cost (my personal challenge). :P My questions are: Do you power to 99? If so why? Do you vary your game play? If so how? My concern is that many players generally appear unable to consider the game outside of achieving 99 in skills, have they been brainwashed into thinking all games have an end? Runescape was designed for longevity and that perception seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. Is it possible that bringing the capes of achievement in was a bad move by Jagex? Is getting 99 the most important thing to you?

You have to love Chuck Norris..... Didn't you know that....fear of arachnophobia is a fear of spiders, a fear of closed spaces is claustrophobia, but fear of Chuck Norris is logic? How could I resist????? :P

I mean, if they are going to give F2P "new" things, or at least, new to F2P, than I want new stuff- so, not dragon weapons. I want something for level 50 attack or something. A new metal or weapon style all together. Don't give us the stuff members find useless. Sincerely, Azura Skyy~ I just wanted to respond to your previous post about the unbalanced combat triangle in F2P. People have been complaining about this across F2P and P2P for some time. Jagex have clearly stated that the re-balancing of the combat triangle is on the planned updates agenda, they said at Runefest that they are working on it now. They will also be updates on armour that will also impact on combat as they intend that armour will be much more 'defense' based.

In response to the 'Master of None' article, I'm not sure I grasp all of it as I have never played the other games the author compares RS to. I do agree that game styles change with how individual players and groups of players use their skills as they advance. I disagree about the references to leveling up in some skills being a 'money sink' that point is player choice and is a direct indication of power leveling, again this is a player choice. All skills can be leveled at a low cost or even free if you are not in a hurry. As for the 'Lets Play a Game' article, I was quite interested at first and then disappointingly it deteriorated into another 'give more to F2P' speech. Oh yes it was couched in diplomatic terms and tried to make some argument about improving the game for F2P as a good business strategy. But basically it's starting to look like Tip.it Times is following a theme, yes I hear it....I've heard it to death on the forum threads. What little sympathy I have felt for F2P is being slowly strangled by the rants and general overkill on the subject. I disagree with the article and the arguments, the author has obviously not been on the F2P worlds at the same times I have, when they have been busy, friendly and very active (since the bot busting). The P2P log in numbers equate well with what I used to see prior to the bot invasion. Also there have been appropriate updates for F2P, graphical, general game content and quests.

They have already stated that you will only drop what is in your inventory not the money pouch or toolbelt. Looking foward to the updates, I'll give myself about 2 days before those extra bank spaces are gone :P -
I agree that we do tend to take firemaking for granted in the game, particularly once you're over a certain level and can start every fire without fail. However I'm not sure what you found 'refreshing' about the article, there was no new information there. It would have been good to see some imaginative ideas put forward....for example: a series of increasingly difficult fire building and making tasks that lead to the ability in constructing your own smithy in the grounds of your RS house. :P Or being wildly outrageous, what about fire used in combat? Setting firetraps or throwing firebombs that you have to light from a ground fire that you have built.
