Jagex says "alright, we'll let you play for free as long as you'd like, and while you are free you have all these goodies: 1. Use of bank space 2. Access to a game world, quests, mini-games, equipment etc. 3. Access to 16 skills 4. Some of the skills are craftable 5. If you subscribe, you keep all of this when your subscription ends. Its all about perception, what you are getting is free, the game is alive and well and enjoyed by many new players. -

I have seen nothing in F2P game play that suggests a drop in numbers (I don't care what stats you throw at me). I have spent quite a lot of time there recently, I have had to look for a world with less numbers as I can never get in the trading world, it is always full when I am on. When I do go on an F2P world I am around Lumbridge a fair amount, now you tell me....if numbers are falling so drastically how come people end up queuing to kill cows and goblins? There is a lot of chat going on and new friendships being made, and this is all since the bot busting happened. These are all new players who are thoroughly enjoying their new experience and there is a lot of them! I thought it was about time I injected some reality here, RS is a great game and is attracting new players all the time, and they don't care one bit about the issues that appear to mean so much to some of you. Issues that are driving you to quit something you enjoy in your leisure time, it's a game, I really don't understand why some people are getting so hot under the collar about it. -
I have just done this quest...what can I say? Outstanding? Excellent? Brings RS into a new aspect of game immersion? All of those things! I took probably about 3 times as long to complete this quest because I found myself listening to the whole speeches instead of clicking through and the music was wonderful. I thought the voice acting was beyond what I ever expected of a game and I can't wait for more. I loved the whole ambiance of this quest so much that I am now finding myself returning there to re-experience the atmosphere and the music, and of course dance with the troubadours lol. Well done Jagex, I'm proud of you!

There is only 2 of the articles I want to comment on at the moment: I think the "If Two Became Three" article posed an interesting idea, but for me the evolution from 4 yrs ago to now has felt natural and progressive, rather than a clear delineation between two very different games. Not comparable to RS classic and RS 2. The article "Goodbye, Runescape" disappointed me in its content, it felt negative and derogatory towards a game that I am a fan of and I thought Tip.it was too. While constructive criticism is useful and meaningful, ongoing negativity that is extreme (basically that the game will die - dramatic, to say the least!) and serves no purpose is not helpful and is bad for morale all round. I play on a F2P account as well as my members account. I have been on F2P quite a lot since the bot busting because there have been so many more people to talk to and it's been fantastic to see so many new players. My experiences recently bear no relation to the sweeping statements the article makes and I dispute them. I will not make any reference to the 'high scores' as that has been done to death in another thread. But I'm sure most of these new players I have been talking to probably don't even know the high scores exist. I am delighted that the bot busting appears to have brought new players in, possibly through recommendations but also just as likely to also be from other advertising.

Hmm, if this is the case, couldn't it be an option to break with Jagex as a fansite? I mean, they are clearly trying to hit not only Tip.it, but all the communities and fansites. I really think you guys should have a little discussion with other fansites and look into the option to stop being a bronze/silver/gold/platinum site, all together. I know it may a bit a harsh thing to do, because of losing out on some benefits, but look at what they did (RuneVillage for example) and what they are going to implement... Honestly, there aren't any benefits to breaking off from Jagex. As a supported fan site, we do get benefits. They might not be that great, and sure it seems like they're trying to support fan sites on one hand and kill them with the other, but the benefits are there. It's great having a direct link of communication to Jagex, support in our competitions/events now and then, and then things like a stall at RuneFest. If we break off from Jagex, we lose those benefits and gain absolutely nothing (except maybe a public declaration of "we don't like what Jagex is doing"). But in the end, we wouldn't actually gain anything from it. If anything, we'd probably be worse off because in addition to the updates that are killing fan sites, we'd also lose a link to Tip.It on the RSOF, maybe they'd censor "Tip.It" in-game, etc. I don't see a problem for Tip.it, there are already competitors out there and you still hold your own. In fact I advise people in game to go to Tip.it and will probably continue to do so, I even brought someone back to Tip.it who thought you weren't going anymore. Competition is healthy, it will keep you in touch with whats needed and you will only improve as a website. -

What you are failing to realize is that a great majority of the posters in this thread (myself included) are in the exact category you are telling us to listen to. Most of us are current players who have been through F2P and we feel it's wrong because given our past experience, we have found high scores to have been a beneficial part of F2P that contributes to the overall game's community and design. I really am trying to understand where some people are coming from, but I have to say I just don't get it. Maybe I think differently, I've played F2P games before as well as RS, none of which have had the content of RS and I have been grateful for what I had. Being on the highscores are for those who have stayed in F2P to gain enough xp to get on that board, I never did. I became a member before that point, yes that was my choice, but I wanted more of the game. I wasn't content with 'half a game' with skills missing. If people are happy with that and want to play free then why are they complaining at restrictions on a score board? If clans are mixed p2p and f2p, thats a clan choice, I'm sure Jagex would rather everyone became a member and will strive towards that, it their right as a business. I hope all this doesn't make them regret having introduced a free game with no time limits and great content. I also am not clear as to how highscores contribute to the overall design of the game and community. It is part of the game structure (soon to be for members, as are many things) and is used for some peoples interest and particular competitive game style, other than that I don't see the relevance to the gaming community. After all its not being removed anyway, just restrictions with regard to accessing it. -

Pretty much the same way as I see it. I am also with Sydan and Jrhairychest  There are some very valid and significant points made by Jrhairychest, put much better than I could. Yet many are continuing to rant against Jagex without stopping for 5 minutes and consider the relevancy of the points made by someone who is obviously a current player and who has been through F2P. -

But they don't give them out forever, they are usually given for a brief time, nor do you hear customers asking for bigger and better free samples and for recognition that they have 'sampled' their goods.....talk about apples and oranges! -

How did a browser based game with shitty graphics become so popular? If Jagex's original business model for RuneScape sucked so bad, why are game developers everywhere starting to emulate it? Free players give runescape two things - word of mouth, and an ease into a game that doesn't look very fun. If Jagex cuts out the free segment of runescape, then certainly they'll save money short term, but long term their game won't survive. I'm with Ginger_Warrior on this one  Are you suggesting that if McDonalds (for example) stop giving kids free toys with their meals their business would collapse? It is a big enough game to stand alone without 'free samples' or free play if you prefer, you said it yourself...others are emulating RS, point made: it doesn't actually need to give out freebies anymore. The free game is a bonus, an 'extra'. As for RS rs being a game that doesn't look fun, that's just your personal view, I think it looks and is a lot of fun and I love the graphics. -

I do not understand what the problem is with Jagex removing the F2P highscores. F2P still have a great free game, Jagex haven't taken that away. I have an F2P account and a P2P one, I enjoy playing both, but I am fully aware of the limitations on F2P and yes it provides different challenges and that's the joy of it as well as being totally free! If I want more I play on my P2P account and pay my subscription. It's a bit like being given a fantastic new set of clothes to go out in for free then complaining they don't have enough pockets or they're not a fashion brand, or protesting if they take away the shirt....it's still free! There is an english expression: "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" (to count its teeth), in this instance because it might bite you. -
Just to add to quest information..... It is useful to note that once in the caves if you log out before finishing the cave you have to restart the cave all over again. If you log out before finishing all of them, you have to run through them all but the gates will be open. The NPC's you are controlling can also be fed from your inventory if their health needs topping up, just right click on the food and 'use' directly on the NPC you wish to feed, just be aware that you cannot feed them during the battle with the waves of knights.

Kind of like people who insist runescape is anything other then a shit game Why are you on here if you dont like the game... does not compute :wall: I'm starting to realise that some people can't stay away from RS, even when they say they hate it, some appear to particularly enjoy winding up those who enjoy it. Relevant to the rant too, there are players who cannot stand the fact that another person may have a better or preferred way of playing the game, we've all seen them posting on this forum at various times

I think it would be awesome to have combat abilities unlocked via agility or thieving levels. They are mentioning something like a hotbar. Basically extra special attacks that you need agility to unlock (in combination with att/str) would be awesome! More variety. I would definitely have a much greater interest in combat if it had variety that exploited other skills, maybe this is where I should confess to having 99 thieving and agility? :P I think all we can do is wait and see what the final update looks like when it gets here, no doubt they will do tweaks and changes during the development. I can't wait to see the armour graphics update too when its gets 'in game'.

To be honest I find the whole idea of e-fame just completely fails to get my attention. What does get my attention is players finding new ways of getting the most fun out of RS, now that impresses me! Please note that this is not about huge amounts of xp, it's not about the most 'efficient' or 'fastest' way of leveling....its about enjoying the game in a way that suits them and its entertaining to watch.......go for it!

Have you tried doing the playlist? Although not much point unless you genuinely enjoy the music -
Guys we have new contender, start tracking him thx. This whole lag thing from whatever update is really annoying tbh, glad I can even get on though after reading the forums. +1 She definitely has the right attitude to make it all the way. @Rook, this made me laugh when I read it :D To be honest you're probably not far wrong. I seem to level much easier when I'm just enjoying what I'm doing, I have 25m xp in thieving totally by accident because I do it by choice. It's my way of unwinding after work. So look out 200m xp, i'll get there in the year 2099 (maybe) :P

I have to agree with you on the orchestration bit, we'll have to wait and see how far they take that. I just know I am looking forward to it :P -
I missed you at Runefest Teezkut, I can't believe it! And I had every intention of looking out for you. I love the stuff you do. I hope you had a great time :-D
-
Do you do Bork everyday? It may not be a lot but its a quick way of gaining 10 crimsons and a few greens on top of anything else you do
-
If I ever get 200m in all skills I will probably be dead
-
I like the way they intend that armour will have defensive based stats, not offensive. Hopefully this will help balance out different melee styles, although not as much as I would have liked. Someone in the session did sort of query the possibility of balancing skills, but it appears it would be too complicated. I would like to see a thief being able to attack someone in heavy armour with an equal chance, using agility and thieving skills. But hey....what they do have planned is going to be a vast improvement. :P

I like the idea of more voice acting and so on, But I enjoy watching movies/series/listening to music whilst I play much more than listening to me 'dinking' a rock for hours on end(mining). I really like the RS music and that's all going to be updated too using real instruments and musicians. What I hadn't realised till I went to Runefest was that most of the music was written by the team at Jagex....I mean....wow! What amazing talent, since then I have taken to listening to it a lot more. -

I believe it is the intention to aim for more or even all voice, this will be a good trial of how voice will work on RS. Going from what was said at Runefest, this is just a snippet of what is planned for the future! :D -
Jiblix and Ken Genosis Demodded Over Speaking Out
Erewhon2 replied to pal2002's topic in General Discussion
Why is it not for you to call out and scream that someone is an evil doer? Although possibly that might be a little excessive  You want them to get caught and be punished, but you don't question their moral code? You can't have it both ways, its either right or wrong...this is not a 'grey' area. So if someone else's moral code is to steal (after all thats what botting is) you think thats bad but its also fine by you? What about if their moral code is to drink while driving? Or taking the cash out of the till from your local store, or attack the elderly for their money is this ok too? Of course you can question it! complacency is an 'opt out' for those that do not wish to confront or take any responsibility for making waves. -
Definitely, there will be a time to leave RuneScape. I thought the article was speaking more toward renewing a person's love for the game though, since he talked about 'choices' and all. I took the 3rd article to be about choices too, yes you can leave the game after losing some of that initial euphoria or you can re-stimulate your interest. I have almost despaired of the lethargic and complacent attitude some people appear to have had recently towards the game and Jagex. Everyone seems to want Jagex to fix everything, change the game, change their attitudes, change the style of play, change the map, change F2P to P2P without paying, change CB, quests etc, etc, etc. It was good to see someone attempt to address this albeit in a roundabout way and full of metaphors
