  1. ^Yes, very exciting, but will they make it like the normal areas of Runescape like Misthalin or Asgarnia? Or will it be a maze or some type of ridiculous underground pass to achieve access? I doubt it. My whole argument is for less updates, but ones that are more worthwhile for gameplay.
  2. Where did I say that I do not like the game? I never did because I like Runescape and I have put it out in other threads that it is in fact the only video game I play anymore. Also, this and the original post are not complaints. They were my observations of what could be tossed out by Jagex in order to bring about better and more fulfilling updates to the game. My main suggestions are this: 1) A new area or land (hell, new continent?) that does not need to be weird/eerie/odd in some way 2) Possibly a graphics update, this was a side note on my original post but seems to have been made into a big deal 3) Expansion of skill sets (new skill? all skills to 120?) However, if new skill added, do not make it super expensive to level up. Just let the players skill. My argument beyond my suggestion is that in order to accomplish this and do it well, Jagex should stop littering Runescape with Distractions & Diversions. Isnt Runescape itself a Distraction/Diversion since it is a game? Yes. Therefore, let Runescape be the game and concentrate expansion and updating on a larger scale rather than tidbits.
  3. 1) To Will_H: I am not arguing for a dragon kiteshield. I am saying that they have focused on all these little updates and distractions that something like the Dragon kite could have been part of a major update, but is now too obsolete to even be worth it. 2) I am not preaching the end times are coming this month, quarter or even year. I am saying that entities that do not adapt and change die out. If Runescape continues to focus on small updates instead of big picture, it will lose its retun value in terms of gameplay. Granted a person can put tons of time into playing already, so that specifically may not be a major concern, but change is still necessary. I understand that people will continue playing as long as they have the will to do it, but why should I require the will to play a game instead of a want or desire? Sure they have made certain updates graphically that look pretty good and I know what yall are saying, Ive seen the graphics, I only play low detail while mining in LRC on w84. I wouldnt complain about the graphics if I wasnt playing in a high-res mode. That would be like saying that cherry pie is disgusting without ever having eaten cherry pie (Cherry pie is delicious).
  4. Go dungeoneer on max graphics settings honestly runescape is an MMO, an old one at that. It's unreasonable to expect them to update old content all the time. They're working their way around the f2p zones and frankly i think the stuff around draynor and falador are steps in the right direction. Graphics are not something I think runescap lacks. I eventually will, but my original post pointed out my desire for a skill (if they are to release one) that does not necessitate multiple players or superior wealth to get a real enjoyment out of it. I agree that people will keep playing as long as they are willing to grind, but as a person who does not mind grinding but looks for the escape of grind in quests, I would like something more. The graphics thing seems to be what the posts have focused on, but that is not my main desire and argument. I probably should have left it out, but Im not going to edit it now. Also HexiledRazz, I think we have similar ideas in terms of graphics changes and I thank you for the support you may be giving to my argument; however: "All for naught" meaning "nothing", not "All for not". Just a pet peeve of mine. I correct peoples' incorrect uses of phrases. "Nip it in the bud" not butt (comes from gardening), "Champing at the bit" not chomp (comes from horse racing), etc.
  5. Its no secret that "the end is nigh" if you just talk to about 90% of the Runescape population. The only problem is that has been the saying for so long its laughable. The string of nostalgia topics however in the forums is becoming alarming. Runescape is becoming lethargic in its old age (yes, 10 years is old for a video game), and is likely in need of a hip replacement.... and maybe triple bypass surgery. For us (humans) its best to change what you eat and exercise more often, and Runescape must do the same... except what does a game eat? and what does it exercise? Really, its not what Runscape is eating, but what is consuming the time of Jagex staff. We have grown so accustomed now to updates that occur every month when just a few years ago, if we got a "Behind the Scenes" article on the main page, it was like Christmas come early. It is these small little monthly updates that are like the candy bars of updates: they are cool, fun, and delicious, but they only last a little while and then you feel worse than you did before. You can see this occur by the many empty D&D areas around Runescape. There are several activities no one uses. They are no longer the preferred candy bar. I mean Dragon as weapons/armour has been out since Hero's Quest was released, and we still do not have a Dragon Kite shield!!! Are you kidding me? Its taken them so long, the shield would be so obsolete it does not matter. You could kind of count the Dragonfire Shield as the Dragon Kite, but that is just laziness. Jagex's weariness of cranking out these updates can be seen in the quest Deadliest Catch as pointed out by the most recent Tip.It Times. I do not know how much longer they can do it. Then again, I may just be underestimating the mindlessness of the majority of the Runescape population. Whatever it is, I do not like it. I preferred the Runescape where updates meant a true change to the game: a quest with a new item at the end that made everyone question their current combat style, a new area of the map that was not odd/queer/weird in some way and only allowed you to move around as if you were in a maze (elf lands [f****n hate you]). To Jagex if you read this: Give us something to explore, something to kill, and something to do that will actually get people to want to enjoy the game, but without the reliance of superior wealth or multiple people to achieve it. Let us achieve it through the effort put into the skill, game, and exploration. In short, Runescape needs major surgery and we need to stop the little things and allow Jagex to focus big picture. Its not the bots that are going to kill Runescape. They pay for enough memberships to keep Jagex at their desks. It is the dumb and small updates that clog Runescape's arteries with fat that will eventually stop the pulse of the players and the game. Also, since I am on the subject of updates, its time to update the graphics engine and diversify the ways people can get to Runescape. I love RS as much as the next person, but its 2011, can I get a character that looks better than the N64 please?
  6. This looks exciting. Unfortunately, I am going to need to up my agility and do some quests first.
  7. It may just be my attitude about the day, but it seems to have carried over into my thoughts on the articles: BLAH. I know the writers worked hard on these articles, but I am apathetic about the topics.
  8. Well that blows, but overall does not matter. Ive been playing long enough that I could care less about what Jagex thinks of my loyalty, its obviously there. In fact RS is the only video game I still play somewhat regularly. I dont even own a gaming console anymore. Hell even when Im not playing RS, I still keep my monthly membership mainly because I dont want to keep setting it up when I do come back and its only $6 a month.
  9. Well, one can tell by looking at my Dungeoneering level that I dont spend to much time there so I would not know what they have done there. However, I will stand by what I have said, and add even more. There may be a bias towards melee for a reason, or just miscalculated equalities on Jagex's part. Either way, I think the "triangle" is fine besides needing more versatile armour for mage and range, especially for lower levels. Why shouldnt it be biased? Most of what players fight in RS are monsters who are melee fighters and I contend the players were meant to be up close and personal the majority of the time as well. The "triangle" which everyone so clings to as this idea of some sort of equality in RS really only applies a minority of people who A) Player Kill based on one skill (pures) and B) choose one skill to fight all monsters in the game when the levels are clearly meant to be leveled by the player so they can adapt to their situation and take on any enemy with multiple styles of combat. That is what humans have been doing for thousands of years and can be seen by "hybrids", the Slayer skill, and yes your precious Dungeoneering too because some bosses are more susceptable to attacks from different types of combat. Is that why it should be an equal triangle? Nope. Its why it should be biased, and it is. Also, the calculations on levels have a pattern PER SKILL. This pattern should not change based on an indirect leveling of combat through skills. That argument would only tell me that if we wanted to keep it "equal" a person should only have to achieve the experience needed for two combined levels (Atk and Str) in things like Range and Mage, to get levels in that skill. That makes no sense at all. You should not be lvl 70 Range with 500k exp just because thats all it takes to have the same effect by combining Atk and Str. On top of that, costs are costs, pay them or dont level the skill. I doubt you said "I dont want to pay 100mil to get my prayer up, so Im not going to do it." The combat skills all affect combat level, but one must remember that they are all in their own right a separate skill, and are therefore subject thier own differences.
  10. I went over some of the discussion topic in the forums about the loyalty program and it seems the stuff people will get wont actually affect anything but looks/costume/style. However, I still cant seem to wrap my head around this question: Does having a membership for a long time prior to this update matter at all? If it does not, Id say that the vertern capes dont do enough for those who have been "loyal" for longer than 5 years in terms of this program.
  11. Great topic, havent had time to respond to it til now so someone has probably already stated the presence of The Old Nite even before RS2. I remember he was the only RS celebrity I ever met in Classic. He was a really nice guy and gave me some good advice for the game and life, I really appreciated it. A little off topic discussion: If I recall correctly, The Old Nite was 2nd to one other person on the HiScores back in the day, someone named tks. I never met this player or knew anyone who met him, but this was at the beginning of my RS time. Does anyone remember this person? I remember him being on top the HiScores almost as long as Zezima.
  12. I like the Forever Runescape again, keep up the good work. As for the melee bias: duh. Everyone knows there has always been a premium on melee combat from the moment RS was made and the Dragon Slayer Quest was born (see Forever Runescape). The fun for some may come from magic or range, but the majority of players like their battles fought up close and personal. The fact that rangers and mages still gripe about it makes them look like people wanting handouts from the First Government of Runescape for the "disadvantaged" situation they have been put in. They forget that they chose it. To say that Jagex needs to make the "triangle" more equal is absurd. It may continue to require tweaking in terms of armour/weapons, but as far as the actual calculations are concerned, its fine. To paraphrase Kid Cudi: You fools think acute, while the triangle is obtuse.
  13. 1) Mine gold (preferably from LRC). 2) Smith gold bars with gold gaunts. 3) Craft gold bracelets 4) High Alch Bracelets Experience and Profit, even if you buy the Nature Runes. The crafting part is quite slow considering the exp earned, but you are only getting to 67 crafting so it is not that difficult.
  14. Well yes there was that whole getting rid of free trade thing. However, I did not know it was about bots until they brought it all back. I have not played consistently for the 9 years I have had my account and the time from about 2006-2008 was my longest period where I did not play, so I missed all the quitting and rioting. However, I thought you were refering to a discussion about the whole "bot busting" once I started reading the forum threads again (I have been gone for about 3 months now), but I didnt see how that would cause such a fuss. Thanks for the reminder of 2007. What I was referring to in terms of drastic was something like a permanent ban on thousands of accounts, have Jagex release names to the public. In my line of work we call those types of things "Blast Lists". That way the entire community knows who got punished. People who had those accounts on their friends list could be wary of what may come to them if they are cheating or were thinking about it. I remember Jagex doing it once without naming names, but I think they should.
  15. Okay so, Jagex owns the account, not you. Say you leave the name and password in your will for someone to use. Thats an easy passing along. Jagex would not know unless it was a members account which would bounce when the validity of the credit card dies with the person. But this would still be easy to change. Just change the card with which the account is paid for. If you were f2p prior to death and then get members, then it probably would not matter. The registration on the account info does not have to match the credit card information, hence why children's parents can pay for their account.
  16. Well, a will is a legal document, so the person the account is left to has that on their side in order to bring to Jagex as proof. I highly doubt Jagex would refute or refuse the last wishes of an individual leaving something to a friend or family member. Also, it is not like Jagex would really know if another person continually began using an account if it was not shared prior to the death of the individual. It is not as if Jagex thought I was hijacking an account when I moved from Texas to California. My IP address may have changed, but that doesnt mean I am not still me. They would not know the difference.
  17. ^Thanks for the sarcasm, it is truly appreciated. Also, I have seen Jagex put out news about what theyve done againts botting before, but when exactly did people quit and riot? I honestly do not reacll this.
  18. Sharing an account constitutes an agreement between two people to use an account at the same time. Therefore, if you are no longer alive to use the account and it was not traded or sold through a 3rd party, this could not be considered account sharing.
  19. I really enjoyed the first article detailing the MUDdy history of Runescape. It was interesting, thorough, and I look forward to Part II. On the subject of apathy however, I must say I am somewhat disappointed in the reaction to bots here. In terms of a war of attrition, the bots are surely going to win if we stop caring. Is it out of control? Possibly. Does the community feel Jagex could be doing more? Of course. But each and every honest player in Runescape is the frontline defense agaisnt bots. I would not ask to spend all your time reporting bots because Lord knows I have probably reported 10 in my entire time playing Runescape (mainly due to my ignorance that they are a bot probably). However, it is our duty to report them when we see them, its the quickest way Jagex gets botting information (probably). I understand the feeling though, and it is frustrating. I think the only two paths we have is to take action by reporting or move on by letting them be. The former is a path the community should get behind, and the latter is the path that they will most likely tolerate. I hope Jagex does something drastic, even if it is just a puiblicity thing against bots, to show they are doing something.
  20. Overall, both articles were pretty good, even if they gave us information most players already believed or had an opinion on. I agree with the first article on upping to the long. In fact, if Jagex did this, it could bring relief to the culture described by the second article. On the second article though, I must note this quote: This statistic is deceptive, misleading, and a blatant example of data manipulation in order to fit the argument. Want to know why pageviews has decreased for Runescape.com over the last three months? Look to what was (re)released three months ago: free trade and wilderness. Most players who do not play consistently probably browse their RS news on sites like Tip.It rather than the RS homepage due to the community factor of such sites. The decrease in page views accounts for the players who came back for free trade, messed around for awhile, and then left again. This type of traffic occurs on the RS website every time a major update is released. To say that RS is a dying game based upon such a fool-hearty statistic is just plain wrong. I am surprised that no one else has brought this up so far in the discussion (at least I did not see it while browsing). Wessan is back (if you have missed me) and Wessan has spoken.
  21. Not much but I just tried it out for about 30mins and made about 700k. I dont have much cash so thats actually double my money when i started. I am offering one free try for 100k. I do pay out. If any rich Tip.It-ers would like to come play, I will be glad to host on world 2 atm.
  22. So they trade after you roll? Or do you just tell them what you got on the roll?
  23. What are the dice from?
