  1. If you want to save money - you would actually do it via dragon bones. Think about it this way - it takes ~4.8 hours of offering big bones in order to equal one hour of offering dbones That would mean at any income >1mil an hour - you would be better off offering dbones. (Realistically - you're going to be spending more then 4.8 hours of big bone offering to equal 1 hour of dbone offering) Now for the "fun aspect", I don't see how anything can be less fun then -teleport to house -open door -light marrentil -offer bones I mean if you have any sort of goals - the idea should be to complete them as soon as possible. If you're spending all day offering bones, you're never going to get to do any of that stuff you want to with 95 prayer anyhow. Sure, based on the assumption of some type of income per hour as if RS was your job, then sure go with the D Bones, there is absolutely no other choice at all. Also, I don't recall my post speaking of anything "fun" because I would not consider training prayer fun in any form or fashion other than quest reward. OP wanted to SAVE MONEY. You cant hardly beat 6.25 gp/xp if you take into account the OP is probably using money solely from selling items, but if you want to find a way to beat 6.25 gp/xp on a limited monetary supply, be my guest. Sure Big Bones would take a long time and be difficult to work through, but they achieve original purpose of... wait for it... SAVING MONEY in the achievement of a goal.
  2. Hey guys, I was just thinking up some stuff today and thought about focusing on a specific economic topic: the BXPW, especially since we have one coming up in a couple days. I was thinking about an attempt for the Tip.It Times, but it would be too late. Also, I just want everyone to know that the "patterns" spoken of about BXPWs and the RS economy during those times are based on my memory and historical graphs from Runescape Wiki. And although they may not have been the highest prices of their time, BXPWs in the past have caused large spikes in goods (other than this one). So here goes: This summer’s Bonus XP Weekend seems to defy the pattern legitimate players of Runescape have seen the economy follow leading up to previous Bonus XP Weekends. In the past, the RS economy has inflated itself to account for the massive XP gains to come, but this year Turmoil can be yours for the cost of a full set of Bandos Equipment. Thousands of players are wondering why this is occurring and what they should do with their equipment, stockpiles, and cash. Unfortunately, if you were asking those questions, this article is not here to answer them. This article is meant simply to report on the happenings of the Runescape Economy at the present time. First however, an examination of the past Runescape Economy must take place in order to understand the altered atmosphere of the one today. The facts of the past should be known to any player who has kept up with Runescape throughout the past two years, but it is always nice to have a refreshing rehash of information. The first Bonus XP Weekend (BXPW) occurred in March 2010. Much like the Bonus XP Weekend about to occur, this was a game changer. Not only was it the first time Jagex was going to simply give away extra experience at no cost or time to the player, but it was still experimental because Jagex learned a few lessons from it. The biggest lesson learned was that Summoning is quite easy to train with a 2.7x multiplier. Also, Jagex found a few flaws in the system of the Bonus XP distribution and how long each multiplier should last. In essence, the first BXPW was an anomaly in terms of its concept and game-play, but set the standard of how the Runescape economy reacts to such an event. This standard was one of increased prices as the supply for skills like Herblore, Fletching, and in this case, Summoning evaporated like water in the Sahara. The next BXPW happened in September 2010 and was much the same as the first with a few tweaks to the multiplier, timer, and the nerfing of Summoning, but this BXPW had much the same effect on the Runescape economy. This is mainly due to the unpredictable nature of the first two BXPWs. Players had no idea they would be coming until Jagex announced them only a few weeks in advance, so when players found out, they bought out supplies over a short period of time for high prices. It is also worth noting the first two BXPWs occurred under the Restricted Trade Era in which prices were already inflated due to the reduced purchasing power of the Gold Piece (GP). It did not take much for many people to suspect the third BXPW to come in March of 2011, but its legacy is born from the Free Trade Era. However, the removal of trade restrictions only a month before a suspected BXPW brings data for the third BXPW into question. It continued the pattern seen under the Restricted Trade Era, but why? Was there not enough time to collect goods? Did the removal of trade restrictions lead to a merchanting boom that forgot about BXPW until only a short time beforehand? And it must be called into question: were there just not enough bots in RS to make a difference yet? It was a combination of these and other factors. For these reasons, the economy acted in what seemed to be a now predictable pattern for BXPWs. And then six months past. On August 24th, 2011, Jagex announced its Refer a Friend Program in which players can receive extra experience for bringing a friend into the game. Whatever. The note bene taken from this announcement was the small snippet that stated the next BXPW would occur from 9-12 September 2011. That is the day the new graphically updated Grand Exchange had its foundations shaken to the core. Prices were up, down, skyrocketing, and plummeting all at once. The mid-level Rares saw a swift decline (but have since made a recovery), Bandos armour when from 18mil per piece to around 15mil and swiftly came back to 17mil in the course of almost 6 days. Items like the Amulet of Fury, Dragonfire Shield, and Berserker Ring experienced declines in excess of 10% within a day or two. Herbs and their seeds were hit hardest as most players (and bots) had stockpiled them in speculation that Herblore would be a major skill to train again during the BXPW. It was as if the residual inflation of items in the Restricted Trade Era was wiped out in two days time, and when the panic seemed to die down a bit, players got to catch a glimpse of one word: predictability. Bonus XP Weekend had finally become such a pattern in Runescape, players and bots alike knew it was just over the next hill by the time August rolled around and back-to-school shopping started invading every Wal-Mart. So when the BXPW was finally announced as a certainty, caches of goods and raw materials were dumped on the Runescape economy with little regard to cost-per-item. This is because if you want to sell 10,000 Snapdragon herbs at 7,500gp each to make 75mil, but know (due to predictability and an inundated market) that they will not sell at that price, it is easier to short sell your goods for say 7,000gp per Snapdragon. The herbs have now instantly sold for lower than the current average and if they went for exactly 7,000gp each, only 9% and 5mil was “lost” in the transaction. It was a small casualty and certainly one a single player can afford. One thing different about this BXPW: everyone began doing the same thing. It is not a new phenomenon to see a mass short selling of goods in Runescape. All players experienced the slashed prices of goods following only the announcement that free trade would return in December 2010. The path taken by the Runescape economy leading up to the fourth BXPW differs from December 2010 because it can happen again. Will it set a new standard of what the Runescape economy does in the weeks before a BXPW? I contend it will, to an extent. Where there is predictability, look for the unprecedented to occur. However, some bets can be made: a certain portion of the Runescape population will continue to be predictable. Let’s just say they operate solely on code, cue, and money. *just a note: I did not really want to bring bots into the discussion, but it is incredibly difficult not to notice or report their impact on the RS economy. **Also, please do not boil discussion down to Free Trade versus Restricted Trade. The fact that they were present and had an effect on the BXPW fluxes is the only reason it is mentioned.
  3. Whereas Big Bones are only 6.25 gp/xp. I said if the OP is "big on saving money", big bones are an option considering they are half the cost of Dragon bones. If the OP is looking to save money rather achieve the goal in the quickest time, then he should consider all options. People have been tainted by the "efficiency" methods in RS. Yes, they are good, and yes, they do work, but if you have other goals in mind for what you wish to achieve, then get it done how you want to do it.
  4. I don't want to sound like an old nag, but in my opinion we used to get more/regular content updates. It doesn't help that the 'biggest update' so far this year was clan citadels and the content is already (apart from a couple exceptions) abandoned. On your side note: Great idea when they can't think of any new content to make. On the contrary, Jagex's updates to Runescape have reached their original (and I mean original) goal of coming out with weekly updates. They have become quite regular and really spoil players today who then become anxious and mad when they don't see an update. Whether or not the updates are deemed good or lame is a completely different story, but I have maintained in past threads and will say again that I wish we would have more sporadic updates that affect the game in a more significant way. That way, Jagex could put time and effort into updates rather than spitting them out like turds for the players to complain about.
  5. They have been historically low lately so they are better than usual, but if you are big on saving money while you get to 95, Big Bones still have a much better cost ratio. That being said, if I had the money to afford using Dragon Bones, I would.
  6. You can grow torstols if you boost your farm level, yes. And growing torstols = $$$$$
  7. Why should each week be some large update? Honestly, I contend that if Jagex could do several small updates well, it would be better than some large Diversion/Distraction that people play once or twice and never use again. Not every update needs to make monumental change to the game, they come out weekly. Side Note: so when are Summoning points going to go the way of HP and Prayer?
  8. Supplies will eventually dry up and people will be ready to hit the +5% button in the GE with only the desire to get some herbs right then and there. There have been several threads about this lately and I'll say what I did in those threads: Pick a price at which you believe they can sell (a reasonable one, 11k is not reasonable) and let them stay there for awhile. They will most likely be sold soon enough.
  9. The bots and RWT advertising go without saying as really annoying and terrible; however, other than refer a friend and loyalty to an extent, I am glad to have things that boost exp like the BXPW, effigies, and easier skills because I do not get to play enough to make it worth my while otherwise. Honestly, I probably only have the stats I do because of the "easier" skills. I probably would have quit long ago if the grind was getting to me.
  10. It has been over 10 years and I can say I never consciously quit. There is plenty of times when I just stopped playing for awhile or circumstances prevented me from playing so it just did not happen, but I have never quit. With that said, I don't think I will quit considering RS is the only video game I do play. I do a bunch of other things and when I do play a game, RS is it.

    Help

Do not train prayer over bonus xp weekend. Let me go ahead and repeat that: DO NOT TRAIN PRAYER OVER BONUS XP WEEKEND. It is a waste of time since using bones at an altar will give 3.5x multiplier to your experience and any attempt to combine the BXPW with altars is nerfed completely.
  12. I understand being on the defensive for the current situation of finding out et cetera, but my comment on his defensiveness springs from the way he explains his previous actions when he speaks of the pornography and other past offenses. He says (and I paraphrase) that he sent it through email because he figured it was not going to be such a harsh crime even though he knew it to be illegal. That is something you should no longer be defensive about. You should accept your fault and not focus on it at all, but he spends several paragraphs defending such actions. Now, do I think he should be defensive about his time at RV and that his actions there have shown no threat or even inclination towards "sexual offense"? Yes, he should be defensive there. I put "sexual offense" in quotes because to call him a sex offender, I contend, is pretty harsh. Did he distribute pictures of teens, yes, but did he go out of his way to defile children by taking the photos or actively seek them out? Not to my knowledge, nor anyone else's from his accounts or the news article. (With that said, I am not condoning child pornography. It is reprehensible and should not be tolerated.) I do not defend what he did and will not say it is not a crime, but to end up on a registered sex offender list because of it is harsh; however, he still should be able to accept that the state has taken action, he agreed to the terms, and be able to move on from attempting to place all the blame on the state.
  13. I have only read the Jiblix interview so far because it seemed to be the most capivating (and it was). I enjoyed reading it even if it did mirror most of the feelings people here and myself already garner. Will be reading more tomorrow when I get home for Labor Day. Also, Thank to Racheya for putting in my small "Did You Know"
  14. Wow, I used RuneVillage forums for several years before using the Tip.It forums. The decision was made purely on the fact that their forums were not as active and I grew bored of updating them, hoping somone had commented after me. I always used Tip.It for game update information though because it took way too long on RV. To learn that Hiker is a registered sex offender is somewhat disturbing. Although his explanation shows how little it takes to get on that list, he does not seem very sincere in moving beyond his actions. He seems to still be on the defensive and attempting to bargain with himself and others about how bad "the system" makes things seem. Sad to see that a 62-year-old could have such an attitude.
  15. I am assuming you are wanting to play games that arent of the Novice level on World 144 because I have been playing there all weekend to get some points and it has been quick and easy. On that note though, the Novice games are great because they only take about 2 minutes to complete and you get 2 points. I guess ya just gotta have more patience if you want to play those.
  16. I have picked a price at which I think my herbs will sell based on a average over the past several months and put them in the GE for that price. Bandos made a major recovery from its recent drop and then dropped again so it is quite volatile at the moment. I would venture to guess that they will probably both rise again after BXPW and all supplies are dried up around RS, but I do not know the long-term future since farming bots were already driving herb prices down for several months.
  17. Banning, ugh, such a harsh term. Lets call it administrative obstruction. Now that we have all that ugliness out of the way, we at Jagex like to see everyone enjoy the game to its fullest potential while playing by the rules. We take care to make sure those who operate outside the rules receive equivalent reprimand for their actions. Administrative obstruction to the game is a harsh punishment we do not wish on any player so we avoid it at all cost by giving you 1, 2, 3, or even more attempts to retrieve your account once we have issued such punishment. We hope you are back to enjoying the game after learning valuable lessons.
  18. Tree Run, Hunter, Agility (gotta get ready for ROTM), and Summoning once multiplier hits 1.1x
  19. People always ask me how I don't receive stuff like this, from RS hackers to any other kind of spam. The key is this: don't put any of your real life information on anything that doesn't have a privacy agreement. And just so you know, Facebook does NOT have a privacy agreement. So "liking Runescape" or Jagex or something like that can be a red flag for hackers to go "yep, we want his cabbage" In response to the photo, I think someone posted about 3 pages of those kind of emails in their inbox here once.
  20. Yea i do know it can still take longer. Thanks. Im going to plant all my stuff on Monday for the BXPW.
  21. There are actually 4 tasks listed in the tip.it task guide. But it looks like ya just have to be a guest of someones clan citadel and you'll complete them all
  22. If you pay a farmer to prevent disease on a patch, you still receive all the normal exp when you come back to say check health on a tree correct? I am pretty certain the answer is yes, but I just wanted confirmation.
  23. Man, I may need to change my BXPW plans to just train agility for Ritual of Mahjarrat, cant wait.
