  1. Woah woah woah, everyone can calm down now. Okay, now that everyone is calm, I can explain the situation. Okay, first on the issue of monopolisation. Icu researched a unique alchemical process which generates a higher quality of silver. That is what he has a monopoly on, not silver in general. Remember monopoly doesn't necessarily mean total control of a market, just a high degree of control. As for China, it is a fractured and destroyed country. Its government doesn't have a firm grip on its people, meaning that in all likelyhood, Icu will only have one claim out of many to the throne. That would probaly require heavy investment to secure that claim. Sri Lanka is small and full of peasants, meaning it is only controlled by local strongmen. Local strongmen like marrying up the ladder with royalty, but they have many rivals. It is more like forming an alliance. Larger more stable nations like Japan will be harder to marry in to. Rather, you may be able to secure a royal marriage alliance, but inheriting the country would require heavy investment, defeating rivals, and all that stuff. Inheritance is not supposed to be an easy way out.
  2. Trade is an update every five years, but I haven't done the updates yet. I'm going shopping with my mom around lunchtime, so I'll get them done/ And I'll go and delete some messages.
  3. I would do that in YOH, but combat takes quite a long time to calculate, and people aren't always playing the entire day. :P Napoleanic era! (Prussia? )
  4. Ooooh, wargaming! This sounds like lots of fun, since it would be like the YOH battle reports, except that I don't have to make everything up myself, which sometimes makes it wierd. Why not the late 1800s? It's the best time because there still is gunpowder, but it isn't as strong as in later eras, allowing hussars and other calvery to play an important role as well. Then there are Napoleanic style infantry columns and cannon bombardment. It would work much better in a tactical game than a strategic one, because then you could actually plan your attacks around troop morale, weather, and terrain beforehand instead of just reading about how your huge force was mowed down by gattling guns. However, if you knew that the enemy force had gattling guns, you could prepare an infantry column and march all your soldiers in at once, while flanking from the side with your lancers. Getting mowed down isn't that bad when you're controlling your own forces.
  5. Sorry, I have to leave sorta early today, so I can't finish the other stuffies. I will finish them tomorrow morning/afternoon, depending on your timezone. I was going to do everything earlier, but a storm knocked out my internet.
  6. Spanish Invasion of Northern Africa The Spanish army crossed over the straits of Gibraltar, moving with lightning speed towards the Moorish capital of Marrakesh, led by Crown Prince Ferdinand the second. They easily overcame the local resistance of village militias and occupied the northern part of the country with few losses. Through deft manuevering and forward planning, the Spanish army completely avoided the deserts common in the region, relying on the sparse strips of dried grasslands for safety against the desert storms. Unfortunately, expected Welsh reinforcements did not arrive because of the recent turnover in the Welsh military, a necessity when replacing a feudal army with a professional one. Regardless, the Spanish invaders ountnumbered and outgunned the army of the Moors, which were mostly defeated and demoralised after their defeat in Iberia. Their Egyptian allies had been crushed by the Mongol invaders and the new government occupying Cairo and Alexandria, though Muslim in religion, preferred repairing their damaged country before aiding their allies. The Spainish Juggernaut reached Marrakesh, a city standing in in the midst of the desert. Its outlying areas were irrigated and supplied by a nearby river, allowing the city to support such a large population. After speaking with his advisors, Prince Ferdinand decided to storm the city, fearing that the Moors could find reinforcements in the nearby Zeirids. The city garrison had been alerted and their soldiers were at the walls. The battle began with the crackling sound of Spanish stone launched from their catapults striking Marrakesh's wooden walls. This caused some of the garrison to fly off and crash into nearby houses. The garrison quickly reacted and pulled inside the city, hiding behind the walls instead of ontop them. The Spanish catapults soon ran out of boulders to fire and resorted to firing local camels and oxen, but the damage was less severe. By then, the walls had dozens of holes, ten or twenty feet across. Prince Ferdinand sent in two thousand men at arms, accompanied by two thousand spearmen, and five hundred knights. The spearmen charged in front, absorbing the arrow fire by the Moorish archers. When they reached the main breach, the spearmen broke off and supported the rear, while the men at arms tore through the enemy militia. Suddenly the Spanish forces broke off in "fear" and the Moors followed them, eager to get revenge for their defeats in Iberia. Three thousand Spanish Jinetes bounded out of their lines and came close to the charging Moors and threw their javalins at point-blank range, decimating them. The initial Spanish force rushed into the breach, and began charging down the street to the market square, when they encountered the Urban guard, an elite unit of heavily armored spearmen. Despite their best efforts, the first Spanish charge was beaten back and they retreated back to Spanish lines. Prince Ferdinand was understadably furious and responded by sending in the rest of his infantry. Three thousand spearmen, one thousand men at arms, 300 Spanish knights, two thousand swordsmen, and three thousand Knights of Santiago charged towards the market square, and once again encountered the Urban guard. They were quickly flanked and surrounded on all sides by the Urban guard on one end, and hordes of cheap Moorish militia on the others. When it looked like the Spanish would perish where they stood, Prince Ferdinand charged into the rear of a group of Moorish militia with three thousand Jinetes. The Moorish militia began to rout, leaving only the Urban guard. The Knights of Santiago led a charge with Prince Ferdinand at its head and managed to hack through the first row of Urban militia. As the second row tried to lower their shields and regroup, the Knights of Santiago had regrouped and charged once again. While most could not pass the shields, instead finding openings and taking advantage of them, some of the knights fought under the shields and into the formation, slashing wildly at the exposed innards. The Moors quickly surrendered after their Urban guard was destroyed, handing control to the Spaniards. Casualties: Tons of Moors Spain 3200 Spearmen 200 Swordsmen 1600 Men at Arms 600 Jinetes 500 Spanish Knights 1300 Knights of Santiago Kievan Invasion of European Mongolia Blood in their minds and gore in their hearts, the Kievan army marched from Kiev to the east, then back again into Poland, to defeat the Mongolian hordes which had taken the area several years ago. The massive army marched loudly into Mongolian territory and began the siege of a citadel in Southern Poland, which had been converted into the territory of Subutai, the great Mongolian warlord. Scouts have detected a relatively small Mongolian garrison, meaning that starving them out would take several years. (Doing colonizing, economic, etc stuff in a separate post in a minute)
  7. Well there's always the zombie survival game.
  8. It has a map, so in all likelyhood it'll be strategy.
  9. Well that's what eel is for, no?
  10. Archi had an idea for an economy game way back when. Maybe we could dredge it up and base it on that? Twas pretty good, but it had some flaws. Could always be fixed with input though, like everything can be.
  11. Couldn't I hop to Constanstinople, and then across waypoints to Worlds end?
  12. ... Heresy! Kirby is the best!
  13. How far away is World's end from B2? If it wasn't too far, I could raise my agility so I could just teleport there and back.
  14. It probaly isn't worth it at five hundred thousand for the weapon and its team, but it should be an option. This is the farthest gunpowder is ever going to go, but it seems plausible that it could be used in some strategic functions. Note that the Mongols had around ten or so contraptions per army, and they were only so frightful because it was the first use, and they were the Mongols. Note how you could afford five hundred Hlaupari at the same price, or 330 or so Cataphracts. ----- Wales has been granted autonomy by the great Kingdom of Spain. After celebrations broke out, the King of Wales died from alcohol poisoning. The government was replaced by an authoritarian pro-Spanish government, hidden behind the facade of a constitutional republic. The first task of the government was to repossess the lands of the nobles into the public domain, where they are currently being used to raise money for a professional Welsh army.
  15. 11th. I will work out your carrier ship stuff in a minute. Also, the gunpowder the Mongols were using were closer to firing firecrackers at people than anything really dangerous. The fear effect of gunpowder + Mongol fear effect was why it was so devastating. I am going to allow it, but it isn't actually as powerful as it first seems. 500,000 for a single mercenary team, or 200,000 for an Asian country to purchase.
  16. I'm prepared to take that risk. If I succeed, then I will have a huge living space and all the amenities I need. If I fail, then they ignore me and I have to trade with the outlying villages, with cows.
  17. As long as I act non-Russian, I should be fine. Besides, the village of Sodom is probaly thirty minutes from my house at most, since I'm in their supergrid. I could hitch up a wagon with ol' Flossom the bull, and conduct regular trade there. If not, I could always make tons of bricks and hope they take pity on me and give me a pickaxe. :P
  18. I just discovered a Sodom copper mine, so maybe they'll let me use it. I wonder which supergrid they're in.
  19. Ah right, because of your European trade route. Greenland is currently "full", though the people are really spread out. Might want to talk to Rocco and Nex about that.
  20. Midnight blue cheese = 100 Strength FEP
  21. Okay, I basically replaced the old trading system for overseas routes. You can task cogs to the route (remember cogs need maintanance), but it causes your economy to increase which then increases your budget. Also, your colony in Greenland would grow faster and settlers would probaly be encouraged to move there. Any chance I could get this answered? (The venture that I put 2 million gold into) EDIT: I just found a group that uses the soprano saxophone! (I'm guessing this only means something to me) EDIT: EDIT: I rolled a six sided dice. I got a: 4 Normally investments take time for anything to happen, unless you're Goldman Sachs. I have sorta missed what an Ashrak is. Any chance I could get this answered? (The venture that I put 2 million gold into) EDIT: I just found a group that uses the soprano saxophone! (I'm guessing this only means something to me) EDIT: EDIT: I rolled a six sided dice. I got a: 4 Because letting you roll your own dice for something which gives you a very good boost without us ever seeing you roll it is completely fair, am I right? Retech, I'd like to send a diplomat to talk with the Sultan of something. Also, China. I think I need to work out a trade for raw materials with them. Do you want to do those in IRC or something? I figured out it's the Sultan of Johor. IRC or PM when we're both on, either one would work. Crete sends people to the Turkish tribes/Byzantine Empire, Greenland, Tunisia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, which is in the hands of local despots. All the ships to Cape Horn, which is in South America, sink. Your people in Sri Lanka meet a French delegation. Traders = Need Cogs Same thing with the Greenland thing. You can transport within Europe for no cost, but I don't consider Greenland part of Europe. Arabia is basically part of Persia at this point. What do you want to talk about? (PM PLOX)
  22. How about beer? I have such large fields of wheat that if I came in a wagon (I domesticated my first cow/bull. Not sure which it is), I could bring fifty barrels of beer or something. Also, is cheese worth anything? Midnight blue for example?
  23. Actually I thought it would be fun for you to fight against Skraelins in an almost inhospitable landscape. Here's something everyone should know about the Asian kingdoms: Influence can come about by royal marriages, sending missionaries (can backfire), sending military advisors to oversee their army, and trade. Okay Mather, gots it. (Nex I will work your thing out tomorrow. If it turns out that you can send settlers this year, then I'll pretend it was done today)
  24. In a period of warm and calm weather, the Holy Roman Empire sailed a fleet of cogs to Greenland, stopping in Iceland for resupply. The entire fleet landed unscathed and created the second European colony in Greenland, following the Viking colony several hundred years ago. Dungeonal, I wasn't sure if you still wanted to attack the Mongols?
  25. Well Japan is currently the most powerful "kingdom", though China is resurging. Also, the Mongolian kingdoms are strong militarily, but their leadership changes often. Japan is comparable to the player European countries, except they have a huge advantage in Asia because that is where they are located. Soooo rush your cogs to Japan!
